Shayla Shark just doesn’t feel sleepy! Can her friends Sean and Santiago help? Narrator: Male Story Begins: 3:47 Sleepy Sharks Excerpt: Shayla Shark felt the cool water glide past her fins as she swam in a circle around her favorite coral arch. At this hour, Shayla usually felt sleepy and ready for a good rest. After a full day of swimming, exploring, and playing on the reef, her body was usually happy to settle down. But tonight, Shayla did not feel sleepy at all. In fact, she felt wide awake. Each time she tried to close her eyes, they popped right back open again. And so here she was, swimming in circles, wondering why her body did not feel ready for rest. Today's Meditation: Enjoy the feeling of your body relaxing into the warm sand on a sunny beach. Sidney Snapdragon gets nervous easily, but his friends Bert Bumblebee and Sawyer and Summer Snapdragon help Sidney feel more comfortable. Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new stories this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Sensitive Snapdragons,” and we'll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Male Story Begins: 3:58 Sensitive Snapdragons Excerpt: Summer thought every morning was a beautiful morning. When it was sunny, she enjoyed the light and the warmth. When it was rainy, she enjoyed the refreshing water to drink, and when it was windy, Summer enjoyed the feel of the air as it circled her leaves and blossoms. The little yellow snapdragon always said the sun made her feel like dancing. The only time she didn't think mornings were beautiful was in the wintertime… and that was only because she was asleep in the ground! “It sure is a beautiful morning,” Sawyer replied, still smiling. “Say, I wonder if our friend Bert Bumblebee will visit us today,” Sawyer continued. “Bert usually visits us on sunny days, especially if it's not too windy.” Today's Meditation: Imagine you are a twinkling star, receiving and sending energy through the universe in today’s meditation. Dragon has an epic idea to hold a game event for Ahway Island! How will it come together? Narrator: Female Story Begins: 3:33 Dragon's Epic Idea Excerpt: Dragon nodded.  It sounded like a fun thing to watch and possibly to participate in. But these Olympic Games weren't being held on Ahway Island, and they probably were for humans only, so there would be no way for the creatures on Ahway Island to watch or participate. Unless…. Dragon had a thought. It was more than a thought, really. It was an idea… an epic idea, in fact. They could have their own games competition on Ahway Island, and creatures from all over the island could compete in events that reflect the skills they have practiced for a very long time. Anyone who did not want to compete could be a spectator and enjoy watching the action. Today's Meditation: Relax your whole body from head to toe in this meditation. Where have I been? Life, Cousin. Life got in the way. A lot of things sidetracked me, and even though I was keeping the feed for this show active, I still had several moments of “Yeah! Gonna get back to it soon!” alongside an equal number of “why bother?” moments. I’ve also been working on a different podcast project with Mike Messner, who you might remember from a couple of Gordon Lightfoot episodes we did here. I talk about it during the episode, but you can check it out here. Mike convinced me that there was still more to say; in addition he wanted to help me say it. In addition, I wanted to move the show a little closer to its original educational roots. There’s more about that during the episode, too. So, bigger picture: Mike is going to take on some of the hosting duties, and I’m going to be doing a mix of new shows and a re-work of old shows. We have roughly the next 20 or so episodes mapped out, and while Mike will be writing and producing his own stuff, I’ll be reviewing scripts and dealing with final production, plus I’ll be dealing with the show notes (the stuff you read here) for the time being. Have a listen, get The Rest Of The StoryTM, and let’s re-light this candle!

Just a universal list that let friends give the real help that new parents need—from strollers to diaper services to dog-walking.Natalie coded the first lines of Babylist during her son's nap time. I was reading a year or two ago, I can't even remember where now, but a sentence from the article has solidified itself in my memory. It said something along the lines of "Most people on social media follow someone one step ahead of them, or one financial bracket above them. Any more than that and it's overwhelming, under that and it isn't inspiring." It struck me because it named rather specifically why social media can breed discontentment. If we are only looking at the lives of people a little bit ahead of us, then we are always going to be tempted to spend above than we can afford. Maybe that's taking trips that the financial strain makes us miserable afterward. Sink a deposit into a house that consumes our whole household income. Maybe it's as simple as buying organizing systems that is totally out of reach. Kate Strickler is the creator behind Naptime Kitchen. For this book, she was just named a New York Times best-selling author! Congratulations! Her new book, "I Just Wish I had a Bigger Kitchen," tackles why we feel discontent when most of us have everything we need. -What is the first time you started noticing you were believing lies about your life? -How do you usually identify that you are believing a lie? -Do you think naming the lie helps remove its power over us? -Why is the chapter "I just wish I had more friends" resonating most with readers? The unofficial third host of the Carpool Podcast is BACK - Kate from Naptime Kitchen! She's got a new book coming out that is about to be your "How To Guide" for all things being an adult. It's called "I Just Wish I Had A Bigger Kitchen: And Other Lies I Think Will Make Me Happy" and she took us through the journey of the book came to be and talked a little bit about the special audio interviews you get when you pre-order the book, including one with our very own Kelly!  Since Prime Day has come and gone, Lizz thought this is the perfect time to do a brand new round of Last Two Transactions. First off, is our special guest Kate who finally jumped on the weighted vest train and is loving it. Lizz's life has been changed thanks to the sonic retainer cleaner she finally purchased. Finally, Kelly is the crafting queen thanks to all the craft supplies she had to buy over the last couple of weeks. Plus, Kelly's amazing Facebook Marketplace finds.  Since we have Kate, we must get her latest favorite Ditch The Drive-Thru meals. Right now, she is all about the versatility of a frozen meatball and told Kelly and Lizz some of her favorite ways to use them. Then she shared her frozen enchilada recipe that might be the first entry into Thawgust for 2025!  For all things Naptime Kitchen and pre-order Kate's new book, head to naptimekitchen.com
