The Avalanche beat the Lightning 2-1 in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final behind a goal and an assist from Nathan MacKinnon and the cup clinching goal from Artturi Lehkonen. Tampa Bay fell two victories short of becoming the NHL’s first three-peat champion since the early 1980s New York Islanders dynasty. It’s the franchise’s third championship and first since 2001. Colorado Defenseman Cale Makar, who won the Norris Trophy, also wins the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the Stanley Cup playoffs. He’s only the third player to do that and first since Nicklas Lidstrom won both in 2002 for the Detroit Red Wings. NHL – Daly hands Stanley Cup to Avalanche in Bettman’s absence NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly presented the Stanley Cup to Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog in Commissioner Gary Bettman’s absence.
