The power of storytelling can never be underestimated. For centuries, people have been educating and influencing others through sharing stories, and interestingly, when we feel as if we are placed inside the story, our ability to recall information and in many cases, take affirmative action, increases. Which begs the question - why aren't more salespeople utilising the power of stories to drive sales? In today's episode, I enjoyed a fabulous conversation with Nick Capozzi, Head of Storytelling at Demostack, about how the power of storytelling can drive exceptional sales results, if we learn how to tap into it. In this episode, Hannah and Tony explore the reasons why a great salesperson should also be a great storyteller, and how you can brush up on your own skills. They sit down with Nick Capozzi, the Head of Storytelling at Demostack and an expert in crafting compelling video content to boost sales and strengthen the narrative surrounding a brand. As someone who got his start in sales sailing on cruise ships, Nick has an intimate awareness of the power of storytelling and the key elements of a great piece of content. He shared more about the fascinating backstory behind his career, as well as some of his best-kept secrets when it comes to leveraging storytelling as a sales tool. Nick also provides listeners with an overview of how to create an Oscar-worthy demo, which you definitely won't want to miss if you're hoping to take your brand storytelling to the next level.
Nick Capozzi is the Head of Storytelling at Demostack and the VP of sales at Smile Virtual. He shares his start in sales by selling duty-free items on cruise ships and the lessons on relationship-building that he learned in the 10 years he eventually spent there. These lessons remain applicable even in B2B selling as being likable could be the key differentiator between you and your competition. Nick also discusses how to maximize video and use it to increase your chances of getting bookings, as well as the lasting value of asking about the weather to make a connection. HIGHLIGHTS Selling duty-free luxury items and crazy stories of on cruise ships B2C selling emphasized the importance of relationships in sales Take the prospect off the streets: People buy from people they like The secret to confidence on video is lighting The weather question is still a good conversation starter QUOTES One of the best ways to improve is to listen to your own calls Nick: "People don't do it themselves. They're afraid to watch themselves or listen to themselves. And if you just do it 3, 4, 5 times in a row, get over that fear, and you start to see your crutch words. You start to see your negative words. You start to see these things that can be kind of easily corrected, you just have to have the thought to do it." Lighting brings confidence on camera Nick: "The key thing to becoming comfortable on camera that everyone misses is they don't light themselves correctly. And if you see my videos, they all have the consistent look. And all I have is 2 $35 soft box lights and I have a $38 webcam. But the webcam makes me look better than I look and the lighting makes me look way better than I look, frankly. But if you feel subconsciously that you look good, you're going to present a lot better." We all know that Gina champions the idea of telling stories to create connections and make sales. Today she may have met her match. Nick Capozzi, Head of Storytelling at Demostack, joins the show. Nick built his sales skills with fifteen years in cruise industry. But he wasn't the cheesy, pushy salesman on deck. He had conversations with guests, answered their questions, and helped solve their problems, which then organically drew them to his onboard sales presentations. This episode isn't just about stories that you tell in order to build relationships and sell to clients. It's also about asking the right questions to prompt prospects to tell their story to you, which in turn creates trust, which leads to a sale. Beyond that it's also about the stories we tell ourselves. When we doubt ourselves, and worry about rejection or failure, are those true voices in our heads or something manifested from our past or those around us? This is a fun, complex, educational and thought-provoking episode with one of the pioneers of social selling. We're still selling to people! This is something today's guest feels very strongly about, and a mindset that brings him continued results. Nick Capozzi, Founder of SalesPitching and VP of Sales at Smile Virtual, spent twenty years in the cruise industry where he practiced the craft of relationship building every day. He describes some of his LinkedIn and email experiences with Jeff and Christie, and how so many people reach out, but make no effort to create a personal connection. Nick says to just take sixty seconds and look at their profile. Where do they live? What courses have they recently taken? Where did they just vacation? The list goes on. And any commonality you can find can be a jumping off point to a conversation vs. a pitch. And in the end, people like people, that like them. And they buy from them. Plus! Hear about Smile Virtual and their incredible rate of closed sales. Find out more about Nick here WANT MORE WHY AND THE BUY?
