After 10 years of outrageously hilarious shows The Dark Mark Show comes to an end with a bang as Mark and Nicole threw a holiday special like you've never seen before with contortionist/burlesque dancer/cosplayer Sin Twisted and Santa Claus. Sin talked about how Andy Dick once tried to bum rush her while she was onstage inside an R2D2 shell, talked about her experience with swingers' clubs and how erotic a pool game can get. How having a steady partner does not inhibit her from having a wild sex life and she teased Santa with her beautiful feet which led Santa to give her a foot massage and have fun between her splayed toes. Sin also brought out her pet python Noodles and let Nicole and Santa pet him as she described the care that goes into a snake and how she was able to do a From Dusk Til Dawn inspired dance during the pandemic. Santa may have had too much Fireball whisky, but he talked about how he has lost 70 lbs in the last year, how he is never invited to elf orgies, how wild his sex life may or may not have been before he met Mrs. Claus, how aroused he gets from the mothers who bring their children to see him at the mall and he had gifts for Sin and Nicole who sat on his lap (but not Mark, he must have been naughty this year) This is the last Dark Mark Show ever it seems (a declaration Mark made in 2015 as well). Sending a big thank you to everyone who ever watched and listened. Mark will be back in 2024 with something completely different. Stay tuned. Better yet, Kevin's sitting in for this one too!We decided Santa could just go to hell for the time being because we wanna talk about 1996's From Dusk Til Dawn. It's a subtle little understated character study of a criminal and his sex predator brother fighting evil vampire strippers in a Mexican roadhouse. Pass the eggnog!Stick around til the end when we do a multigenerational review of the top movies from 2024, 1994, and 1984.

This week, we kick off Spooktober with the original horror anthology film, a collaboration between two titans of the genre from two different mediums as the king of horror movies brings to life a script from the King of horror fiction to create a loving homage to the creepy comic books they both grew up reading. It's 1982's Creepshow, directed by George A. Romero, written by Stephen King, and starring Hal Holbrook, Adrienne Barbeau, Fritz Weaver, Leslie Nielsen, Ted Danson, Ed Harris and Bingo O'Malley. As an anthology film it's a bit uneven, and King probably should have recused himself from acting in the movie. But it's undeniably charming, working off a formula that I must lament we don't get more of still to this day. Plus: Giving the fans what they want, we've got more Diet Root Beer discussion. If you'd like to watch the movie before listening to our discussion, Creepshow is not currently streaming anywhere north of the border but can be rented on YouTube and Cineplex. Other works discussed on this episode include Beverly Hills Cop, Hook, Rebel Ridge, First Blood, Will & Harper, Star Trek: First Contact, Smile, The Ring, It Follows, Alien, Trick 'r Treat, Creepshow 2, Creepshow (2019), The Outer Limits (1995), The Stand (1994), IT Chapter Two, Hulk, Decision To Leave, Cheers, Black Mirror, American Horror Stories, From Dusk Til Dawn, Planet Terror and Dawn of the Dead, among others. We'll be back next week as Spooktober continues with a prolonged stay in the King's court, as we check in with the 2007 John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson hotel horror 1408! That one is available to stream in Canada on Hollywood Suite at the moment. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

The horror genre has been on a box office tear this year with what feels like a new entry hitting theaters every week. Today, we welcome back the director duo known as Radio Silence, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, and Tyler Gillett, to discuss their new vampire flick “Abigail.” After two turns at the wheel of the “Scream” franchise, the two bring a unique spin to their story which follows a group of criminals who find themselves in over their heads after kidnapping a young vampire. The film finds inspiration from all the right places including “The Shining” and “From Dusk Til Dawn,” the two share just how important films like that are to their own and more.ReelBlend PremiumSign up for a bi-weekly newsletter from Sean, and ad-free episodes at bit.ly/reelblendpremium.ReelBlend on YouTubeBe sure to subscribe to ReelBlend on YouTube (YouTube.com/ReelBlendPodcast) for full episodes of the show in video form.Follow The ShowReelBlend - @ReelBlendSean - @Sean_OConnellJake - @JakesTakesKevin - @KevinMcCarthyTVGabe - @gabeKovacsTimestamps (approx. only)00:00 - Intro 10:17 - ‘Abigail' Interview | 27:33 - ‘Civil War' Marks A24's Best Box Office Opening Weekend34:51 - Scorsese And Spielberg Both Have Some Big Upcoming Pictures43:03 - Review: ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare'51:18 - Review: ‘Abigail'57:10 - OutroSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/reelblend/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

This week Justin and I discuss the vampire/crime flick FROM DUSK TIL DAWN. From Dusk till Dawn is a 1996 American action horror film directed by Robert Rodriguez and written by Quentin Tarantino from a concept and story by Robert Kurtzman. Starring Harvey Keitel, George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino, Ernest Liu, and Juliette Lewis, the plot follows a pair of American criminal brothers (Clooney and Tarantino) who take a family as hostages (Keitel, Liu, and Lewis) in order to cross into Mexico, but ultimately find themselves trapped in a saloon frequented by vampires. The film was released on January 17, 1996, and received mixed reviews from critics, who described the film as well-made if overly violent. After enjoying financial success at the box office, From Dusk till Dawn has since become a cult film and spawned a media franchise of sequel films, a video game and other media adaptations.Be sure to subscribe on your favorite pod platform and our YOUTUBE channel!Visit thecultworthy.comVisit https://www.themoviewire.comVideo: https://www.youtube.com/@back2thebalcony

We had the pleasure of interviewing Within Temptation over Zoom video!Dutch metallers Within Temptation recently released their brand-new studio album Bleed Out with a provocative, zombie-vampire-gore-fest-splatter-horror video for their current single "Ritual". Brutal and brilliantly comedic, whilst calling to mind the work of legendary animator Ralph Bakshi and the Rotoscope school of animation, the video for "Ritual" calls out the behaviour of male sexual predators in the workplace, the street, the sports field, and more. What if women behaved as aggressively as the men who seek to take advantage of them, and what if they fought back to exact a terrible revenge?Singer Sharon den Adel says, "'Ritual' is a sexual song, about seduction and a woman taking power in a male-dominated world. It was inspired by watching Tarantino's movie From Dusk Til Dawn and is a light-hearted moment in our album, which focuses mainly on the political and repressive issues in the world. We have always wanted to do a horror-style video for Halloween, and this song gave us the perfect chance to do that, using AI-technology to create something truly awe-inspiring. But it also addresses some of the recent news-stories of men behaving badly and imagines what would happen if a bad-ass woman fought back in the most terrible way. So get ready for blood, violence, fangs, and humor. The album Bleed Out has been released to worldwide acclaim, showcasing Within Temptation at the very forefront of contemporary metal, and unafraid to take a social and political stand on many of the issues in the world today. As epic as it is unflinchingly outspoken, Within Temptation have delivered a fist-in-the-air proclamation of both their moral convictions and their fearless approach to music. We want to hear from you! Anita is joined by the European Champion and Queen of the Jungle Jill Scott. Jill is one of the most decorated footballers in the country and after announcing her retirement from the sport last year she's turned her attention to the next generation. Today she is opening a new football pitch in her hometown in South Tyneside and tells Anita what she wants the Lionesses' legacy to be. The gang-rape of a woman in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, sparked protests yesterday with women calling out the country's ‘rape epidemic'. The 24-year-old woman was walking with a male colleague in the city's largest park at 8pm last week when she was attacked and raped by two armed men. The police have said that investigations were ongoing but in a statement warned people to avoid unlit areas of the park in the evening. We hear from Aisha Sarwari, columnist and co-founder Women's Advancement Hub based in Islamabad and Caroline Davies, the BBC's Pakistan Correspondent Salma Hayek Pinault is a Mexican American actress, director and producer who broke barriers in the 90's as one of the first Latina actresses to establish a successful career in Hollywood, appearing in several Robert Rodriguez films including From Dusk Til Dawn. She was Oscar-nominated for her role in Frida, about the life of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, a film which she also produced. Now she is starring opposite Channing Tatum in Magic Mike's Last Stand, which perhaps surprisingly, is set mostly in a London theatre. Salma joins Anita in the Woman's Hour studio to talk about being the strong female lead, and power dynamics in Hollywood. Being a parent for the first time is challenging for anyone. But when you're a disabled parent, it brings with it many more complexities, including discrimination from society and medical professionals alike. Eliza Hull, an Australian musician and disabled parent, realised that there was no positive literature around being a disabled parent – so she created it herself. ‘We've Got This' is an anthology of stories from disabled parents about how they've overcome challenges to become parents, and how much they love it. This week Matt and I discuss the legendary $7,000 independent action film "El Mariachi". Written and directed by Robert Rodriguez as a practice film to sell to the spanish video market it has become an icon in the low budget independent cinema world. It's been an inspiration to many people including Matt and myself and of course launched the carreer of Robert Rodriguez who would go on to direct Sin CIty, From Dusk Til Dawn, and much more, including turning the story of the Mariachi into a trilogy. If you haven't seen it we highly recommend. It's an amazing achievment considering the technical/financial disadvantages as well as working as a one man crew with non actors. For this one we try out the Sagamore Spirit Tequila Finished Rye whiskey as well as Sagamores flagship rye whiskey for comparison. It's a delicious whiskey that unfortunately isn't around anymore at this point but maybe they'll release it again some day. I recommend anything from sagamore spirit, it's ahrd to go wrong with their product. Cheers and than for listening.
We discuss Quentin Tarantino's self-written whacky wampire wideo, From Dusk Til Dawn. Feat. Biker illuminati, terrible people doing terrible things, table impalement, hot cross guns, estate agent prejudice, and Doctor Michael Morbius. Plus, is this a vampire movie?! Content warning: Explicit language and content, as well as significant references to sexual assault and violence. This episode contains spoilers for From Dusk til Dawn. As broadcast October 29, 2021 with plenty of extra nightmares for you podcast trick-or-treaters. Tonight a rare occurrence went down on the air, as both guest artist selectors Freedom Fry and our seemingly faithful host Danno were possessed by different demons and rebaptized in blood. The Darkness as he is now known welcomed Phantom Fright to the show to have some REAL fun with Halloween on the air, and the guests played horror film soundtrack favorites and talked about some of their favorite moments in the movies. However, the host (or whatever vile thing The Darkness is) took it several steps too far during the first hour in committing an abduction of one of his young devotees then murdering and burying that poor soul, watching them rise from the grave as a zombie, cause depraved havoc in the night, and regret their ultimate sealed fate as a member of the undead army. Not to be missed for Halloween enthusiasts & big props to Bruce & Marie fka Freedom Fry for joining this nuthouse of a radio experience.Tracklisting:Part I (00:00)Michael Jackson – Thriller (The Reflex Halloween edit)Lyn Christopher – Take Me With YouSeals & Crofts – Sweet Green FieldsWar – Slippin Into DarknessAngela Alexander & JD Saddler – Don't Make Me Kill YouNorma Tanega – You're Dead Part II (30:03)The Revels – Midnight StrollKip Tyler – She's My WitchWillie West & The High Society Brothers – The Devil Gives Me EverythingThe Love Unlimited Orchestra – Midnight & YouLeon Haywood – I Wanna Do Something Freaky To YouGhost Funk Orchestra – MourningGhost Funk Orchestra – Step Back Wild ChildGhost Funk Orchestra – Fuzzy LogicGhost Funk Orchestra – Pause I Part III (59:07)Freedom Fry – MonsterCreedence Clearwater Revival – Midnight SpecialFlanagan & Allen – Run Rabbit RunAl Bowlly with Ray Noble & His Orchestra – Midnight, The Stars & YouHarry Belafonte – Banana Boat (Day-O)Kay Starr with Orchestra – Headless HorsemanMagnet – Willow's Song Part IV (67:09)Freedom Fry – Zombie LoveTito & Tarantula – After DarkHubert Kah – The Picture (Francois K 12” remix)Roger Bartlett – Fool For A BlondeLana Del Rey – Season Of The WitchJoy Division – Love Will Tear Us ApartNick Cave & The Bad Seeds – Red Right Hand

Danny Trejo is a legend with over 380 acting credits to his name. He is the “most-killed” actor in Hollywood history with roles in Blood In Blood Out, From Dusk Til Dawn, Desperado, Heat, Con Air, Machete, Spy Kids, Breaking Bad, and Sons of Anarchy. He is one of the world's most recognizable and adored character actors but before he wandered onto the set of Runaway Train attempting to help a young drug addict and was asked to step in as an extra on the film, Danny Trejo was a convicted felon who served time in some of the country's most infamous prisons to include San Quentin, Folsom, and Soledad. In his brand-new book, Trejo: My Life of Crime, Redemption, and Hollywood, which releases this week, Danny tells his personal story of drug addiction, violence, incarceration, sobriety, spirituality and eventual success at the pinnacle of the film industry. It is an honest and emotional memoir with lessons of hope and the transformative power of forgiveness for us all. On this episode of Danger Close, Jack and Danny discuss his journey from inmate to number one on the call sheet, his encounter with Charles Manson in prison, working with Charles Bronson and Robert DeNiro, being recognized as Machete by President Obama, his battle with cancer, his recovery from a subdural hemorrhage in his brain, Danny Trejo Day in LA, Trejos Tacos, and a lot more.
