We look at this hopeful book by Larry Weber. See more about A New Age of Reason: Harnessing the Power of Tech for Good here. A New Age of Reason: Harnessing the Power of Tech for Good, reviewed We need as many books like this as possible. As always those wishing to take no responsibility will say that the tech is neutral, it is merely what the user choses to do with it. Trouble is, sitting on the fence can enable irreparable harm to happen. Larry Weber aims to take the reader from knowing nothing to having a deep and nuanced view of what tech for good could and probably should mean. As always the challenge is to get as many people on board as soon as possible. This book covers a wide range of sectors and possible routes to enabling a more effective tech for good future. At the same time the book is also under two hundred pages long, which does mean it can feel like a slightly whistle stop tour across the issues. This may be no harm if it is intended to reach busy C-suite executives who are aware that they need to be doing more in this respect for their own businesses and the wider planet too. The growth of B-Corps is hopefully part of a wider trend towards business not being divorced from the needs of the planet. This book is definitely worth sharing with relevant thought leaders and influencers. More about A New Age of Reason Leverage technology to propel humankind toward a better future A New Age of Reason: Harnessing the Power of Tech for Good provides a roadmap for integrating emerging world-changing technologies, such as AI/robotics, chips/sensors, and quantum computing, to solve some of today's thorniest and most pressing problems like climate change and world hunger. The author offers inspiring examples of companies using technology to positively impact humanity. The book provides an actionable playbook to transform your organization around this mission, including how to develop a tech for good strategy, how to evolve the C Suite to deliver on this mission, how to market it, as well as measure outcomes. The author also discusses the latest technology breakthroughs delivering positive world outcomes, such as: Extending a surgeon's "eyes and hands" via robotics surgical systems to improve patient outcomes Computer vision tech that enables farmers to maximize crops to feed our burgeoning population AI/robotics that identify and fight wildfires Bringing together a collective of major thinkers on this subject and providing guidance for a better future, A New Age of Reason: Harnessing the Power of Tech for Good is a timely read for all executive leaders seeking to harness the new wave of technology to solve key societal problems and have a positive impact on the world. Brian Wieser, principal and CFA at the strategic consultancy for media and technology industries, Madison and Wall on the changing of the guard in the future of media. After his roles as global president at WPP's Group M, the world's largest media services firm, Interpublic's Magna Global and Ad Tech for Simulmedia, he argues that in an age of major global platforms and performance, traditional media planning is no longer needed. Media companies, he says, need to scale up and globalize, and the emphasis on short term and performance will not differentiate companies as much as talent, trust from the investment community and understanding that Brands are key.

On the PRmoment Podcast, we catch up with UK public relations leaders and today we're chatting with Current Global CEO George Coleman. It's a timely discussion as we seem to be celebrating a few PR firm birthdays recently, so this is the latest in our unofficial “Birthday” Series as Current Global celebrates five years of existence!Current Global was born out of Weber Shandwick. It now has a reported fee income of over £35 m and about 300 employees globally, with about 30 in the UK.It describes itself as a multidisciplinary PR firm that works in corporate, healthcare, technology, and consumer sectors. It's an interesting example of a pretty young PR firm coming out of a holding group (in this case, Interpublic) and doing quite well. Over the past five years, most of the holding groups have mainly concentrated on merging their PR firms, not launching new ones!Clients include Microsoft, Novartis and FedEx.If you're listening to this podcast, it probably means you are interested in updating yourself on the challenges and opportunities that the future of public relations will offer. With that in mind, do take a look at our latest PR Masterclass: AI in PR. It's a cracker! Also, thanks so much to the PRmoment Podcast sponsors the PRCA.Here is a summary of what George and PRmoment founder Ben Smith discussed:2 mins Is Current Global one of those large, mid-sized global PR firms that many of our listeners might not have heard of?3 mins George gives a brief history lesson on how and why Current Global came about.“For us, it (the merger) was a positive, forward-looking move.”“If your reason to merge is to save money, that is a more difficult brief.”10 mins George talks about what it's like being a global CEO of a PR firm based out of London, when the US is the largest market for Current Global.“40-50% of my time is billable…I love the job… It's less about operations and the admin and more about doing great client work.”18 mins George reflects on the challenge of running a PR firm across global markets. “Culture is an expression of connection.”21 mins How have the complicated geo-political environment and the complicated societies that we seem to now live in impacted the type of work that PR firms do?“There seems to be an ongoing process of polarisation in public discourse fuelled by social media. Traditional media plays less of an influential role in creating that common ground, that understanding. A lot of our discussions are becoming more polarised, more tribal…We (society) can't even agree on facts."“Communications sits in the middle of that.”25 mins Brands face a challenge in leading conversations at the moment in this era of increased polarisation.27 mins “The importance of what we do has never been greater.”28 mins George reflects on how he thinks AI will impact the PR agency model over the next 18 months.“There are two ways AI is going to transform public relations…”“We've had ten years where search has been king. With AI, that dynamic changes.”35 mins What do global PR clients want currently?38 mins Why George believes that we're seeing a fundamental change in the PR agency: employee relationships. 42 mins George talks about the need for the PR sector as a whole to make its communications more accessible, reminding us that much of the tech you already have access to can transform the accessibility of their communications to a broader r

Here we unravel the mystery behind the conversion process—what it is, why it's so important for your business, and how you can use it to achieve market-beating results. From attracting leads to nurturing prospects and closing sales, we'll guide you through each step of the conversion journey. In this episode Jane talks about her personal experience of domestic abuse. Why it is more common than people think, and how to get help if you find yourself in a situation where you're either being abused, or are suffering from the after effects of an abusive relationship. Survivors of domestic abuse often hide away, because they feel marginalised, judged and ashamed. This means their situation is often misunderstood. All around us, every day, there are people going about their daily business who are walking on eggshells, waiting in fear for the next onslaught. In abusive relationships, it goes way beyond an unhealthy dynamic. There really are perpetrators and victims, and by the end of this video you'll be a lot clearer about who and what these look like. Have you ever encountered domestic abuse, as an entrepreneur, and if so, did you manage to break free? Attention is the new gold! When you ‘ blend in with the crowd' and say things that are boring or unoriginal, your audience is more likely to abandon you in favour of someone whose content is more interesting. This means you'll be wasting your time and effort for poor returns. You'll also be having to work a lot harder to generate desire, and any prospects you acquire will convert at a lower rate, because people are not really ‘feeling it'. So in this episode, we look at how you can transform your content from boring to ballsy, and achieve the recognition and success you deserve. Do you think you're more boring than ballsy? If so, listen to this episode for some useful tips! Life and business is never easy if you're ambitious and want to succeed. Newton's Law states that for every action (force) in nature there is an equal and opposite reaction. The easy option can be harder than we think, and the harder option can be easier than we think. When we embrace difficulty and challenge as a natural consequence of success, we ‘choose our hard' and stand by our choices. When others choose what seems to be easy, you'll recognise their ‘hard' can be a life of compromise. When you choose your hard, on the other hand, you embrace the possibility of a truly limitless life. #businessgrowth #entrepreneurship #entrepreneurmindset #chooseyourhard #thesmartconnector Jane Bayler is the Smart Connector, a London based passionate serial entrepreneur, brand marketer and business growth exploder, who helps overlooked and undervalued consultants and b2b service providers generate consistent, scaleable revenues through becoming the go-to authority in their sector.
