This is going to piss some people off and it's totally against my content calendar but it may help some people so I'll share it. The 2 glaring problems podcast pitching gurus do NOT cover. I've heard a lot of people talk about the power of podcast guesting, and the "opportunity" it brings blah blah blah. However, there are two things I don't ever see cover by these people. #1. The responsibility of the guest. If you are on a podcast you are taking up someone's time. So don't waste it. SHARE something that's actually going to make someone want to remember your name and check out your content. This means actually preparing ahead of time. (What I did was create a slide deck for podcast interviews) Prior to getting on the show, you need to have something worthy to share. NOTE: Part #2 of this post won't matter if you don't have anything unique to share That takes development of your: - Hooks (how you grab attention) - Working on your content/ story (cutting out the fluff) - Investing in yourself as a student of your craft #2. Pitching for podcasts is like outbound sales. You NEED Volume and systems. Anybody can get on a podcast once or twice but you need to get on many podcasts over time to create the omnipresence effect you're looking for. It's going to take multiple touches and likely multiple angles and you may get pushed off for a few months, or they will ghost you ....its NORMAL. Pitching is not a one and done endeavor, you will have pitch 2,3,4,5,6 times or more. Developing a system for pitching, crafting scripts that get a response and tracking your progress in a way that allows you to put a person other than yourself in place to manage the process without fail is what you want to strive for. So in short, If you want to get on more podcasts, just know it's going to take multiple emails, DMs and nudges to find the right door you can get through...then you can pitch. Hosts Rania Khalek and Kevin Gosztola interview investigative journalist Yasha Levine about his book, "Surveillance Valley: The Secret Military History Of The Internet," which was released this year. There are two parts to the interview. In Part 1, Levine describes how the origin of the internet is rooted in the United States military. It was developed for counterinsurgency and anti-communism efforts. This is a narrative that is typically missing when the history of the internet is told. Later in the segment, Levine gives a brief history of Google and talks about the CIA's support for Google Earth. He also discusses the amazing power that Google's search streams give the corporation.
