In this episode of Arc Junkies, I sit down with Sam Noland, Product Manager, and Kodi Welch, Market Segment Manager, from Miller Electric to talk all things innovation, welding automation, and the evolving demands of our trade. We cover Miller's customer-back innovation strategy, how welding codes like AWS D1.1 and D1.2 are influencing machine development, and the rise of co-bots and robotics in both small and large fabrication shops. Kodi shares insights from his 30 years in the industry and role on AWS code committees, while Sam breaks down how Miller is making robotic welding more intuitive and accessible for every skill level. We also get a sneak peek at what Miller's bringing to Fabtech 2025—including developments in AI and advanced welding processes. Today we get to hear from Laurelyn Shaw, our Director of Community, and Sam Noland, who is our Treasure Island Volunteer Coordinator talk about Delight and Sabbath. We also get to hear from a few of our high school students and leaders about what delights them! We have created a Habit of Delight Experience that consists of eight practices that will help us better understand the concept of delight while experiencing it firsthand. You can learn more at www.portcity.church/delight. Remember that this coming Sunday, July 9th, we are practicing a Sabbath Sunday. On this day, we will not gather together at our church building. Instead, we will use this time to intentionally rest and practice what we have learned through our Delight series. To assist you in your time, we have made resources available to you, including a Sabbath Suggestions Guide for your day! For more information, you can go to www.portcity.church/sabbath. If this episode was helpful to you, let us know by leaving a rating or review, sharing on social media, or sending us an email to creative@portcitychurch.org. We look forward to seeing you soon!

We discuss the history of the film's reputation, the drama associated with the production, the way that it emerges as (potentially) the only War movie that actually matters, and why we find it so difficult to even recommend. After that, we were happy to cleanse our palate with a discussion on Robert Zemeckis's iconic Sci-Fi Family Comedy Back to the Future, covering its deft narrative construction, effective antagonist, and curious soundtrack decisions, as well as a deserved commendation for the recently deceased Ron Cobb. This week, a couple of gents got together to discuss The Gentlemen, the newest film from writer/director Guy Ritchie. With Jon Negroni still shivering in the cold at the Sundance Film Festival, Will Ashton and special guest Sam Noland go across the pond to see what is being considered a return-to-form for the British filmmaker by some and a regressive piece of work by others. Where do these two lads land? Listen to this week’s episode to find out, in addition to hearing our thoughts on Richard Stanley’s H.P. Lovecraft adaptation, Color Out of Space, starring Nicolas Cage, Tyler Perry’s Netflix Original, A Fall From Grace, Clemency starring Alfre Woodard, and a lot more.
