The AIPAC Narrative Reexamined: Empire, the Lobby, the Left, and the Limits of Blame w/ Yasha Levine

Parallax Views w/ J.G. Michael

In this provocative and deeply analytical conversation, journalist and author Yasha Levine joins Parallax Views to challenge a dominant narrative on both the left and right: that the Israel Lobby singularly controls U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East. Drawing from his background covering Cold War geopolitics and U.S. information warfare, Levine argues that this viewpoint dangerously simplifies the role of American imperialism—and obscures how nationalism, including Zionism, has historically been instrumentalized by empire. We explore how the U.S. used nationalist movements as tools of psychological warfare against the Soviet Union, and how that framework led Levine to his critique of the “AIPAC as all-powerful” mindset. He explains why this narrative often becomes a convenient scapegoat that distracts from the structural and strategic interests of American power itself. Levine, a vocal anti-Zionist who has unequivocally described Israel's actions in Gaza as genocide, also warns of a future in which the U.S. might decide Israel is no longer geopolitically useful—potentially abandoning it, with consequences for the Jewish diaspora. Pistachio Wars is an investigative documentary into billionaire pistachio farmers and water barons Stewart and Lynda Resnick, who it's alleged are fragrantly bending the parched state's political system and privatising water to feed their vast farming empire in the desert.

Penny Hess is Chairwoman of the African People's Solidarity Committee which she has led since its founding in 1976. She has built an international movement for reparations from the white community, working under the leadership and at the behest of the APSP. She is author of the book, "Overturning the Culture of Violence" and another of the Uhuru 3 facing federal charges. Leonard Goodman is the attorney representing Penny Hess, one of the Uhuru 3. On the brink of homelessness in covid pandemic apocalyptic winter: Yasha Levine's living the eviction nightmare right now, along with millions of other American families whose government has failed them. Imagine if housing was a human right. Instead we see the weaponization of the covid crisis by the elites to prey on the vulnerable. And holy fuck: in-person eviction court proceedings are literally killing people. We'll tell you why. And what does Soviet Russia have to do with the housing we're losing today? The Bitches get historical. Still hoping the Squad in DC will save us? Might have better luck on Nextdoor. And what did we really learn - about ourselves - from Trump's presidency? We're back!  After a two week break, we're talking about how WWII Nazis, Nazi collaborators, and various fascists from Eastern Europe were allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and Canada, settle, and often received government protection from prosecution and deportation.  Why may you ask? So Western intelligence agencies could use them against the Soviet Union of course!  Specifically I look at three books: 1. Pure Soldiers or Sinister Legion - Sol Littman 2. Wanted!: The Search for Nazis in America - Howard Blum 3. The Belarus Secret - John Loftus  I examine in detail how the Ukrainian 14th Waffen SS Division, the Iron Guard, the Ustashi, and the Belarus SS Brigade survived Soviet punishment thanks to Western intelligence support, funding, and protection. Yasha refers to this as an “investigative newsletter” about “weaponized immigrants, oligarchs, and the twisted politics of American power”. He refers to himself as “a Soviet immigrant living in an era of American decline” and it speaks for itself as to why his perspective is so perfect for this fascinating topic. At the end of the discussion, there’s an extra segment on surveillance and contact tracing. It’s a separate bonus extra for patrons titled Episode 165 EXTRA Surveillance and Contact Tracing in the Pandemic Era.  Yasha Levine is an investigative journalist and author. Since it's Yasha, the conversation quickly turned to surveillance and empire and the fact that the systemic collapse of the USA (ca. 2020) is largely the result of the chickens coming home to roost — as web 2.0 influencer Ward Churchill might say. MintCast hosts Whitney Webb and Alan MacLeod recently interviewed investigative journalist Yasha Levine about his most recent book Surveillance Valley: The Secret Military History of the Internet and his most recent articles on the xenophobia that lies beneath Russiagate and how this new anti-Russia fervor has impacted the Russian-American immigrant community at the national level. In discussing his exhaustively researched book Surveillance Valley, Levine details how the growing nexus between Silicon Valley monopolies like Google and Facebook and the U.S. government as well as today’s scandals over internet surveillance and warrantless spying are actually the logical consequence of the Internet's origins as a U.S. military project aimed at predicting future insurgent behavior by means of covert spying. Also, discussed is Levine’s controversial but invaluable work on the hidden face of the Tor Project, which is included in Surveillance Valley. Levine summarizes his research on the Tor Project, noting that -- far from being the browser that is the ultimate tool against government surveillance -- it has long been funded and continues to receive most of its funding from the U.S. government. In addition, leaders and top advocates of the Tor Project have been caught colluding with the U.S. government, particularly the government agencies funding the project, on more than one occasion, greatly undermining its carefully crafted public image as an anti-government surveillance-busting tool.Lastly, Levine describes his most recent work on the Russiagate scandal, highlighting the often overlooked impact of the media-driven hysteria on Russian-Americans and Russian immigrants to the United States. As Levine notes, much of this rhetoric in recent years has implied that ethnic Russians have undesirable “genetic” traits or are all secretly connected to Russia’s current leader, Vladimir Putin, who is often portrayed by some mainstream media outlets as a supervillain. As a result, Levin argues that many Russian-Americans have become alienated from the Democratic Party and have either embraced Trump or complete disillusionment with both parties.Follow Yasha Levine on Twitter and check out his latest work on his website.Support the show (https://www.mintpressnews.com/donations/)

Later in the show, Levine recalls attacks he experienced for investigating the Tor Project, a popular tool for protecting one's privacy on the internet. Google's contract with the Pentagon for Project Maven — a controversial drone imaging program that uses artificial intelligence — prompted over 4,000 Google employees to sign a petition opposing the project, and about a dozen workers resigned in protest. In response, Google Cloud CEO Diane Greene announced that the contract will not be extended, and that “there will be no follow-on to Maven.” Yasha Levine has covered Silicon Valley for years, and his new book Surveillance Valley: The Secret Military History of the Internet (PublicAffairs, February 6, 2018) details Google's fifteen-year history of selling search, mapping, and satellite imagery services to the Defense Department and a number of intelligence agencies. Levine notes that the complete name of Maven is “Algorithmic Warfare Cross-functional Team: Project Maven” and its purpose is to improve object identification for use in drone warfare. He also wonders how so many Google employees could have been unaware of their company's deep involvement in military contracting through a subsidiary called Google Federal. He explains that Google Federal, based near the CIA in Reston, VA, originated in 2004 with Google's acquisition of a startup called Keyhole. Keyhole was midwifed by the CIA's venture capital operation, In-Q-Tel. Keyhole's CEO, Rob Painter, had deep connections to military and intelligence agencies, as well as to the vendors that compete for intel contracts worth an estimated $42 billion annually; Painter now runs Google Federal. While Levine allows that some Google employees might be unaware of the military and intel work of the company, it's widely known in Silicon Valley that most tech giants are deeply involved in these kinds of government contracts.

Today's podcast guest is Yasha Levine, an investigative journalist and the author of the new book “Surveillance Valley: The Secret Military History of the Internet,” which offers a new look at the little-discussed genesis of the very thing that brings my voice to your ears: the Internet. What did Yasha and Kevin discuss? You guessed it: Russia's block of Telegram. Some highlights:*The concepts of “national information security” and “digital sovereignty” *How we ought to know whom to trust when it comes to keeping our online correspondence private*The role American tech giants like Amazon, Google, and Apple are playing in the battle over Telegram*A bit of context to bear in mind when comparing and contrasting the online ecosystems in Russia and the United StatesYou can pick up a copy of Yasha's book, “Surveillance Valley: The Secret Military History of the Internet,” here at Amazon:https://www.amazon.com/Surveillance-Valley-Military-History-Internet/dp/1610398025If you enjoy this podcast, consider pledging a little dough to help with sound recording, editing, and hosting costs:www.patreon.com/kevinrothrockSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/kevinrothrock)

The LAVA Flow | Libertarian | Anarcho-capitalist | Voluntaryist | Agorist

Trump has gone full-on authoritarian in a trifecta of comments and actions. Are you surprised? What's in the News with stories on square root guns, banks scared of crypto, coward cops update, lost money, and US arming ISIS. Also, an Ancap Apps update on why I no longer recommend Tor Browser. Finally, a #NHItsLikeThisToo with some news on liberty in the state! This episode is brought to you by ZenCash, a cryptocurrency that infuses privacy, anonymity, and security done right. Also brought to you by NordVPN, the fastest, easiest to use service to protect your online presence that I've ever seen.   WHAT'S RUSTLING MY JIMMIES Holy shit, guys. I pay so little attention to national politics these days because it has so little effect on me here in New Hampshire, but I could not miss Trumps latest ridiculous totalitarian comments. And, this is the fucking guy that some libertarians, including one of my favorite libertarians, Walter Block, actually supported!   WHAT'S IN THE NEWS In no tolerance, no brains news, a discussion among students at Oberlin High School in Oberlin, La., about a mathematical symbol led to a police investigation and a search of one of the student's homes.   In no shit Sherlock news, Bank of America, one of the world's largest financial institutions, admitted in an annual report that cryptocurrencies are a threat to its business model.   In Coward Cops update news, shortly after I wrote the Jimmies segment in last week's episode about the coward resource officer who hid like a little baby during the school shooting in Florida, it was released that three other Broward County Sheriff's deputies were also outside the school and had not entered.   And, what's worse is that the Miramar Police Department has suspended two officers from their SWAT team for responding to the school shooting without having orders to do so.    In it's only stolen money news, an annual financial report released by the US Treasury this month showed the government lost over a trillion dollars in 2017. That is more than Australia's entire Gross Domestic Product.   In old news news, an extensive field investigation into the origins of Isis' weaponry in Syria and Iraq has found that weapons supplied by the US and Saudi Arabia to the Syrian opposition often ended up in the jihadis' hands, enhancing the “quantity and quality” of their armaments.      ANCAP APPS In an Ancap App update, a piece of software I've recommended in the past has now been moved off of my recommended list. The Tor Project hailed as a bulwark against the encroaching surveillance state, has received funding from a US government agency and cooperates with intelligence agencies. Tor, the free software which enables anonymous communication over the internet, is a “privatized extension of the very same government that it claimed to be fighting,” claims journalist Yasha Levine, who obtained 2,500 pages of correspondence about the project via Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.   NEW HAMPSHIRE, IT'S LIKE THIS TOO There have been some interesting updates in New Hampshire that give us even more freedoms in the state. First of all, the New Hampshire House of Representatives passed a bill banning the use of “sobriety checkpoints” by state and local police departments, following long-running criticism that the practice is unconstitutional and ineffective. Secondly, the New Hampshire House of Representatives voted to kill a bill that would have increased oversight for homeschool students. House bill 1263 would have required that homeschool students have their annual assessments reviewed by either state officials or nonpublic school principals.

Hello! Ha ha, it totally happened; Bill English quit two weeks after saying he wouldn't. Now a gallery of ghouls compete for his place for the honour of leading a divided party to defeat and another round of soul-searching in 2020. Plus related-to-various degrees; allegations of dimwittery regarding an MP's use of snapchat put the world's worst detectives on the hunt for an antagonist. Trump and Russia and monsters under the DNC's bed. Meanwhile Labour actually appear to be making social progress. Link to War Nerd interview preview with Yasha Levine on the military origins of essentially the entire internet. Yes even that bit.
