Scott & Charlene's Wedding: Lo-fi darlings Scott & Charlene’s Wedding, which is the brainchild of Craig Dermody, and has also featured members of Bushwalking, Peak Twins and Beaches during its existence. The Neighbours-touting name aside, the music of Scott & Charlene's Wedding was always an intrinsically Australian affair. Their debut album Para Vista Social Club came out in 2010 and the album title is a reference to the Adelaide suburb Para Vista where frontman, songwriter and sole constant member Craig spent his youth. 2013 saw the release of their 2nd record ‘Any Port In A Storm’ through Fire Records in the UK and their third record ‘Mid Thirties Single Scene’ came out in late 2016 to rousing acclaim from critics. Recorded at the Brighton Up Bar as part of the VOLUMES Festival in Sydney on the 27th of August 2016. Recorded and Mixed by Harvey O'Sullivan RVG: Melbourne four-piece RVG write tightly wound heartbreakers who channel the post-punk and gothic rock of the late seventies. Fronted by vocalist and guitarist Romy Vager, the band is somewhere between the sounds of New Order, The Jam, and Siouxsie and the Banshees. Not even a year into their existence, they’ve released their debut LP ‘A Quality Of Mercy’ and their live shows are leaving audiences wanting more of their brand of goth-pop. Recorded at the PBS FM Studios in Melbourne on the 7th of February 2017. Engineered by Alicia Saye and Paul Maybury. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 7-8pm, Sunday 28th of May 2017. Xylouris White: Xylouris White is the brainchild of Greek singer and Lute guitar player George Xylouris and Australian drummer Jim White, who is best known for his work in Dirty Three. Often described as a fusion of free-jazz, avant rock and age-old folk tradition, this masterful 2 piece has gained worldwide recognition, playing in venues across the globe. The pair have released two albums, ‘Goat’, their 2014 debut, which topped the Billboard charts, and more recently, ‘Black Peak’ in late 2016. However, this innovative and quintessential band can not be squeezed into merely what they produce on record, as their live show is what really captures the heart and soul of their music. Recorded at the PBS FM Studios in Melbourne on the 11th of March, 2016. Engineered by Paul Maybury. Cash Savage And The Last Drinks: Cash Savage and the Last Drinks are what's still good about country music today. A combination of all the good things about blues and country, but with a dark spin on it, these Melbournians really hit the nail on the head when it comes to clever songwriting and musical arrangements. Touring around Australia and pulling some major support slots, most notably with The Peep Tempel, they have garnered a large support base, waiting on their every word. Having released three albums to date, their 2016 effort ‘One Of Us’ has been their largest success to date. Recorded at the PBS FM Studios in Melbourne on the 8th of February, 2017. Engineered by Alicia Saye & Paul Maybury, Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 7-8pm, Sunday 5th of March 2017. Show production and engineering: Branko Cosic.

Isaiah Mitchell: Isaiah and his beloved Fender Stratocaster have been a legendary pairing that have collectively created creamy psychedelic sounds for records from such bands as Earthless, Golden Void, Howlin’ Rain and Black Elk Medicine Band. He was gifted with his first guitar at the age of Eight, but it wasn’t until his early teens when he’d heard Jimi Hendrix and had his mind blown that he decided what sort of lifestyle he wanted to persue; it was that of a face-melting, hair-swirling solo guitarist. In September 2016, he booked himself a tour of Australia and enlisted the help of Melbourne psych-rock 3-piece Seedy Jeezus to help fill out the jam-filled aura that surrounds him. This particular set was performed live-to-air in Melbourne on PBS 106.7FM’s Pojama People program and is filled with songs that have influenced Isaiah as a musician since he first picked up a guitar, as well some of his own solo works. Recorded live at the PBS FM Studios in Melbourne on the 21st of August 2016. Engineered by Jeremy Smith. Kid Congo Powers and his band of Pink Monkey Birds: To his mother, he’s called Brian, but to the rest of the world his name is Kid Congo Powers and his name has been attached to bands such as The Gun Club, The Cramps and Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. The Pink Monkey Birds started backing up Kid Congo in the mid-2000’s and together they’ve release five albums, touring around Australia in 2016 on the back of their latest album ‘La Araña Es La Vida’, from which this particular set was documented from by PBS 106.7FM’s Studio 5 Live crew. This band is the very example of the sound that gets created when you mix 60’s Chicano rock, southern soul and psychedelic funk. Recorded live at the PBS FM Studios in Melbourne on the 23rd of August 2016. Engineered by Paul Maybury and Alicia Saye. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 7-8pm, Sunday 13th of November 2016. Show production and engineering: Branko Cosic.

Emma Donovan & The Putbacks: Emma Donovan grew up singing church songs with her maternal grandparents on the North coast of New South Wales. Her first gigs were singing in The Donovans, a band comprised of her mother and five uncles. With her mother, Emma sang country for years, and in her youth was a fixture at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, but she always yearned for the bluesier tones of her Father’s record collection, full of American artists like Laverne Baker and Etta James and Indigenous Australian artists like No Fixed Address and Archie Roach. Years later, after touring and recording with many of the mainstays of Indigenous music and developing as a solo artist in her own right, Emma met members of The PutBacks, and finally she found a band with the gritty blues soaked tones she had been looking for. She also found, in PutBacks bassist Mick Meagher, a co-writer and collaborator on the the soul songs she had been waiting a lifetime to write and sing. They recorded and released the record ‘Dawn’ in 2014 to mass critical acclaim and gave birth to a new style, ‘Indigenous Blues’. Recorded Live at the PBS FM Studios in Melbourne on the 27th of November 2014. Engineered by Paul Maybury. NO ZU: Chanted female vocals, pitched down male vocals, wild sax and horns that coalesce into something uniquely antipodean, a bluestone back-alley hallucination that NO ZU call Heat Beat – a nocturnal sex dream bringing together no wave, funk, house, techno, and global percussion. With two albums, 2012’s ‘Life’ and 2016’s ‘Afterlife’, and a slew of other cassettes and twelve inch’s, the octet’s prolific diversity has garnered them praise from national and international publications who are taking notice. Recorded live at the PBS FM Studios in Melbourne on the 20th of April 2016. Engineered by Nao Anzai and Myles Mumford. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 7-8pm, Sunday 10th July 2016. After an amicable creative split with Rob Law, Jess began working on her first solo record with legendary Australian musician, composer, songwriter, arranger Mick Harvey. Her album ‘Kill It Yourself’ was released in august 2015. Recorded live at PBS FM Studios in Melbourne on the 3rd of February 2016. Recorded & Mixed by Paul Maybury & Alicia Saye WAAX: Starting in 2013, WAAX have been pushing everyone out of their way with their raw, punk infused brand of rock. They have rapidly become an act that’s known for their high energy live shows that is partly due to the fear installed by their utterly terrifying and frenzied frontwoman Marie DeVita. In 2015 they released their debut EP Holy Sick and followed it up with an east coast tour that had everyone talking. Recorded live at The Elephant in Brisbane on the 25th of January, 2016. Recorded & Mixed by Branko Cosic Caitlin Park: Caitlin Park writes and performs folktronica, taking folk and electro-acoustics to new heights with her abstract composition, sampling and film nostalgia. Releasing her debut album in 2011, MILK ANNUAL is a sprawling, intricate and heart-warming foray into the soundscapes of old films, audio books, spoken word, and minimalistic musical arrangement. For much of 2012, Caitlin travelled to New York and London, and collected sounds which would appear on her critically lauded 2nd album, 2013’s The Sleeper, which was shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize. Recorded at The Standard in Sydney on the 12th of February, 2014. Recorded by Harvey O'Sullivan & Hugh Fasher, Mixed by Harvey O'Sullivan. Deaf Wish: Starting in 2007 in MELBOURNE, Deaf Wish have been making flat out rock and roll noise that straddles the fine line between melody and chaos. Their intense sound is backed up by a ferocious live show that has seen them tour all over the world. The heart of Deaf Wish’s sound lies in their philosophy; Keep it loud and keep it simple. To further strengthen their rep as a hard hitting rock n roll group they have released one EP and one Album through legendary Seattle Label Sub Pop. Recorded at PBS Fm Studios, Melbourne, 2nd February 2016. Recorded & mixed by Alicia Saye and Paul Maybury. Mastered by Paul Maybury. Deep Heat: Deep Heat began in 2010 with two bassists who wanted to play guitar, and a guitarist who wanted to play bass. Their frantic punk rock sound is topped off with three shouting vocalists that creates a kind of chaos that could cave the walls in at any moment while you shout along with them. Recorded at PBS Fm Studios, Melbourne, 2nd February 2016. Recorded & mixed by Alicia Saye and Paul Maybury. Mastered by Paul Maybury. Bearhug: Known for their hazy, slacker indie-rock vibes, Sydney band, Bearhug has a knack for infusing a sometimes carefree, sometimes agitated but always nostalgic sound into their music. Driven by walls of guitar hooks, noodling melodies, and bare-bones drums that careen under laidback vocals, the band captures that “hair-in-the-face” adolescence spirit that aligns them to 90s stalwarts Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, and Screamfeeder. Love Of Diagrams: Forming in 2001, Love Of Diagrams started out as an instrumental band, releasing their debut album ‘The Target Is You’ in 2003 and then slowly bringing vocals into the fold with their follow up EP ‘We Got Communication’. 2007 saw them sign with massive independent label Matador Records and the worldwide release of ‘Mosaic’ their 2nd album to very kind critical reviews. There was a 6 year gap between their 3rd album ‘Nowhere Forever’ and their brand new album ‘Blast’, which came out last month on Bedroom Suck Records. Recorded & mixed by Paul Maybury & Joe Fairburn. Recorded at PBS FM Studios, Melbourne on the 3rd of February, 2015. God Bows To Math: Taking their name from a song on The Minutemen’s ‘Double Nickels On The Dime’, Auckland’s God Bows To Math are fairly regular visitors to Australian shores. Proudly DIY, the New Zealand trio have performed their unique noise adventures at over 200 performances during their six year career. Their self-titled debut hit the shelves in 2011 and they’ve just released their brand new record ‘Brighter Futures’ which they recorded with Nick Roughan, who’s name you’ll find on records by classic New Zealand artists such as Bailterspace, The Clean, Headless Chickens & Die! Die! Die!. This performance from The Waiting Room in Brisbane back in April 2013 shows every angle of this exciting – and noisy – rock band. Recorded & mixed by Josh Watson. Recorded at The Waiting Room on the 27th of April, 2013. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 3 April 2015. Show production and engineering: Branko Cosic.

So Terence and Adam had a great time talking with Paul Maybury and they decided that they would share most of it with you. You should thank them. Paul's latest work on the shelf is art on Joe Casey's Catalyst and next week you'll see his art gracing the pages of Sovereign, written by Chris Roberson. If you haven't yet, you should definitely look him up.
