Active Energy's 'plug-and-play' strategy powers rapid UAE growth

Active Energy Group PLC (AIM:AEG) CEO Paul Elliott tells Proactive's Stephen Gunnion that the company has gone from concept to around 15.5MW of deployed, operational or secured capacity in under 12 months — and the pace is accelerating. Infrastructure originally prepared for the Bitdeer joint venture has been redeployed at the Ghummud site, which Elliott describes as "effectively plug and play," generating earlier cash flow while the main 8MW site is configured for Bitdeer. That site alone is expected to generate around $3.5 million annually. Elliott is clear about the logic: "The model quickly starts to compound. More cash flow allows us to secure more sites." With 60% of UAE capacity pre-sold before energisation and strategic partnerships with the Private Office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan (Sheikh's Office), Black Road and Bitdeer potentially unlocking a further 50MW, the pathway to the company's 100MW target is taking shape. Watch the full interview for insights into Active Energy's UAE rollout strategy, Bitcoin hosting opportunities and growth ambitions. We sit down with Garth Ennis for a wide-ranging conversation that blends career reflection with a deep dive into Babs: Black Road South. Garth discusses his early discovery of comics and how his 2000 AD roots continue to shape his storytelling instincts, particularly his emphasis on clarity, character, and structure. He reflects on long-running themes in his work—war fiction, flawed antiheroes, and the balance between satire and humanism—while also addressing how projects like The Boys have evolved beyond their original context. Turning to Babs, Ennis unpacks his take on sword-and-sorcery, the appeal of a deeply flawed protagonist, and the tonal shift in Black Road South toward a more character-focused narrative. He also highlights his ongoing collaboration with Jacen Burrows, the role of humor in grounding the series' darker elements, and what lies ahead for Babs and beyond. This book is pretty highly rated from what we've seen on various "reading apps" but so far we remain unconvinced. Across chapter 7 of Sign of the Unicorn, we begin to unpack the critical timelines surrounding the period when Amber's troubles begin, as Corwin steps back to evaluate what he knows and doesn't know. Why did Brand disappear? What's the relationship to Oberon's disappearance? How far back did the plotting for the throne begin? What's the relationship between the damaging of the Pattern, the Black Road, and Corwin's curse? Zelazny spun a complex plot, and we'll do our best to get our heads around it.

I'm working on the second decade of my friendship with Dre Black, road warrior supreme.  I met her back in the early part of the millennium out on the road. At the time she was tour managing, driving and doing pretty much whatever needed to be done to keep a band on the road.  Over the years, She's played guitar in a multitude of bands including Howl, Storm of Light and more recently Race Traitor.  It was great to catch up with Dre as the world begins to re awaken and if all goes well, we'll both be out on the road again.   Intro:                    “Eighteen is Over the Hill” – The West Coast Pop Art Experiment Outro:                  “A B Side” – Manfred Mann

Cali Claptrap: Integral Conversations

Gary Lundgren is the writer and director of such films as Calvin Marshall, Redwood Highway and Black Road. I selected his most recent film "Phoenix, Oregon" because of the local connection to my hometown of Eugene, Oregon. I expected very little from it but gave it my promised 15 minutes assessment. I wasn't expecting to make past five minutes, truth be told, but Gary's film immerses you into his story with its engaging characters and subdued plot. Who cannot cheer for Bobby and Carlos' attempt to revitalize a foreclosed bowling alley? The subject matter reminded me of Gary Putnam's book, "Bowling Alone: the collapse and revival of American community." The book's theorizes that Americans have increasingly spent less time together due to a variety of factors in our society and culture. With 2020 being the summer of Covid-19, "Phoenix, Oregon" restokes the flame of our folk kinship that hopefully many Americans long to rekindle. The film has the feel of the independent cinema movement of the 90's when young auteurs Spike Lee, Kevin Smith, Jim Jarmusch and Quentin Tarantino brought their visions to the screen. The New York Times calls it "an ode to small-town joys" and that it "feels poignant during our current pandemic." In this episode, Gary discusses the creative process that went into creating "Phoenix, Oregon", what inspires him as a filmmaker and his advice to blossoming artists.

PHOENIX OREGON is the story of two friends, a graphic novelist and a chef, seizing an unlikely opportunity to reinvent their lives, quit their jobs to restore an old bowling alley and serve the “world's greatest pizza.” Phoenix, Oregon stars James Le Gros (Drugstore Cowboy, Living in Oblivion), Lisa Edelstein (Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce, House), Jesse Borrego (Fame, Blood In Blood Out), Reynaldo Gallegos (Triple Frontier, American Sniper), Diedrich Bader (Napoleon Dynamite, Office Space, Veep), and Kevin Corrigan (The Departed, Pineapple Express, True Romance). PHOENIX OREGON takes a comedic look at the existential crisis many face when trying to find meaning and relevancy at midlife. Despite controlling bosses, dead-end jobs, and broken relationships, the two leads must awaken hibernating courage and resilience in order to take new risks and keep dreams alive. Director and writer Gary Lundgren (Calvin Marshall, Redwood Highway, Black Road) stops by to talk his own midlife angst and inspiration for this disarming gem of a film, working with a stellar cast and his love for the Pacific Northwest. Allen Scovil "Deep Black Road" seriesDeep Black Road 1: The Head of the Snake(Formerly known simply as, Deep Black Road)It all started in 2079 with the three of them.First there was the general, who wasn't about to let something as trivial as a fatal illness interfere with his plan to take over the Federation of North America. Then there was the boy, who loved robotics and games, but was crushed by a robot run amok. And finally, the girl: being groomed by her wealthy and influential father for business success and political power, she was cut down in a freak car accident. But they didn't die.The general, getting his wish to be made robotic, toppled the provincial government of Foredan on his way to taking on the rest of the Federation. The boy's father, clinging to his last emotional connection with his late wife, put his son's soul into a memorial robot, which got tangled up in the general's machinations, and fell into the hands of the renegade Followers of the Anointed One.The girl, roboticized at her influential and wealthy father's expense, threw her lot in with the general's scheme in opposition to her father, intending to ride the general's coattails to the power she craved.None of them counted on the Prophet, hiding like a deadly snake in the grass, waiting for the right moment to strike; and when he did, they found themselves together, on the run from the New Order. Can the boy, having been granted a ‘great and terrible' destiny when he hovered between death and life, be able to find his way to it … on the Deep Black Road?Deep Black Road 2: The Spirit of LiberationThis is the second book in the Deep Black Road series. In 2080, a robotic child is begotten; and when merely weeks old, it experiences first-hand the battle with dark spirits, as around it a great evil consumes the world of the carnate humans. As an adult, it is unable to follow its fellows out into the galaxy; so it wanders alone as an alien in a world of short-lived and forgetful people, working tirelessly to counter the schemes of those dark spirits. However, after nearly five hundred years, the spirit of darkness that was the source of the ancient disaster raises its ugly head once more in the heart of the kingdom of Liberation. The robot child, joining forces with a young man who has escaped the kingdom's system of slavery, seeks for a way to stop the sudden resurgence of the dangerous technologies of the past at the hands of the king, Father Abraham; but they come too late to counter his growing power on their own.As they flee for their lives, who can they find who'll be able to help them, in a spiritual war where their enemy controls half a continent?Allen ScovilAllen Scovil is a Christian writer of young adult science-fiction and fantasy novels, which he began as a hobby back in 2003, searching for ways to make them Christ- and God-centred, instead of technology- or magic-centred.He has self-published six books so far (both in print and ebook), most recently Thirst, about an orphan boy seeking safety in all the wrong places after a life of abuse. Before that, Allen completed a four-book series titled The Parables of the Game Master, which is a fantasy about a boy transported to a mysterious Land of the Heart run by the enigmatic Game Master, where there are mysteries to be solved, and lies to be untangled. However, Allen's favourite is his first, Deep Black Road: The Head of the Snake (and its sequel in the works, Deep Black Road II: The Link & the Tag), about robotic humans using their unique skills to combat those who would dominate the world for their own ends. He's currently considering an idea for a Christian horror story; but we'll have to see if that works out.www.allen-scovil.comhttp://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/scovil2.mp3

DEEP BLACK ROAD author Allen ScovilThirteen-year-old Ricky Sheppard really wants to get into robotics-something he has a definite talent for-and follow in the footsteps of his father, a professor and engineer at the University of Pittsburgh. He also has a crush on Suzanne Harrington, the only child of the extremely wealthy industrialist Bennett Harrington, but she doesn't care if he exists. Then they both find themselves roboticized, and must quickly find their way and their destiny in a world that has little time for robots that can think for themselves. When the two of them finally team up, they run afoul of Dr. Mella, the self-proclaimed emperor of the world, and must keep themselves alive long enough to work out their own considerable differences before Ricky must face the 'great and terrible' destiny that God gave him when he first became robotic.Allen Scovil was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, and then went with his family to Ontario before he was five. He's spent the rest of his time living in various places in Ontario ever since, getting educated, raising four children, and struggling to keep working (He's an Aspie). Now that he's finally retired, he has the time to indulge his hobby of writing, which he began in 2003. He's always been fascinated by science fiction and fantasy stories, and has searched for a way to make them Christ- and God-centred, instead of technology- or magic-centred. He has so far self-published six such books (print and ebook). It's been six months since he last did so, but Derek is back at his local shop, Collected Comics and Games, for another on-location episode. As usual, he talks with several of the shop customers and employees about the kinds of comics that they've been reading. And since it's the first month of the year, everyone used the opportunity to discuss the titles that stood out for them in 2015 as well as the comics that they're looking forward to in the coming months. For this recording Derek is joined by on-location episode regulars, Craig, Matt, and Chris, as well as store associate Stephanie and the shop's new manager, Sabrina. (Sabrina has been at Collected in Plano for a long time, but she's just recently become its manager.) So after getting reacquainted with the preliminaries, everyone jumps into a recap of the most notable comics from last year. It's no surprise that, for many, Marvel's Secret Wars and its many ancillary tales received the lion's share of commentary (along with the publisher's seemingly endless, and irritating, instances of renumbering and revoluming). But there were other outstanding 2015 titles for the crew, including Toil and Trouble, Invader Zim, Plutona, the new Archie, BKV's We Stand on Guard and Paper Girls, and the webcomic Ava's Demon. Derek then turns the discussion into a more forward-looking one, asking everyone what comics and events they are anticipating in the coming year. Many said that the new iteration of Marvel's Civil War is something that they're eagerly awaiting, but folks also mentioned Brian Wood's upcoming Black Road, Daniel Clowes's Patience, more Jem and the Holograms, Chapter House's Spirit Leaves, Beauties (whose first issue came out at the tail end of last year), and the continuation of Vertigo's new line of titles. TV and movie properties, especially the second season of Netflix's Daredevil and the new Lucifer series, also get a lot of love during the discussion. Overall, the guys at the shop covered a lot of ground, and everyone is looking forward to more of these monthly on-location episodes throughout the year!

Together they own Joma Films in Ashland, Oregon. Working with a team of Oregonians, we have made two features in the Rogue Valley, CALVIN MARSHALL (2009) and REDWOOD HIGHWAY (2014). This neo-noir thriller is about an ex-military drifter who’s hired by a mysterious woman to protect her from a homicidal ex. With an A.I. implant in his head, DYLAN has a virtual companion and moral compass as his situation spirals out of control. Like classic film noir, BLACK ROAD reflects the insecurities of our time; the flailing American job market, economic inequality, government intrusion on civil liberties and our growing love affair with technology.  At the heart of this movie is a simple story of desire and disillusionment. Our hero craves a stable life, satisfying work and meaningful relationships…but he’s in trouble – caught between $18M in gold, a femme fatal and the maniac who wants her dead. PREVIOUS FILMS Redwood Highway (2014) Downright charming. The fiercely independent Marie is someone we root for, worry about and wring our hands over in equal measure. – LOS ANGELES TIMES It’s a low-key charmer with a large-souled performance at the center. One of the best roles of [Shirley Knight’s] career. – THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER Calvin Marshall (2009)  The best baseball movies are there when we need them, and now we have another classic. -THE AUSTINIST Steve Zahn gives a career-best performance in this low-key gem. -THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER Wow & Flutter (short film)  Seventeen heartbreakingly exhilarating minutes. – Hampton Style Magazine A fabulous movie about how life can be so cruel, but how all that bile can disappear with just one kiss. – ***** FILM THREAT Thank You for checking out Hollywood Breakthrough Show!
