On January 15th, 2021, two men received a knock on the door of their Tallahassee apartment from someone claiming to be delivering a Postmate parcel. The two hadn't ordered anything and raised suspicion that someone was trying to break in and rob their home so they said they didn't order anything and refused to open the door. Moments later, their door crashed open and a percussive grenade ignited as FBI swarmed in with guns drawn, yelling. This was the arrest of US military veteran, YPG volunteer medic and instructor of yoga and jujitsu Daniel Baker on charges of inciting violence at Florida's state capital. This may sound like a familiar story of government arrests across the country since the January 6th far right riot to stop the counting of votes that Trump supporters and avowed white nationalists engaged. The difference lies in the fact that Dan Baker wasn't calling for the storming of anything. The FBI alleges that he made posts online calling for people to resist an attempted coup that elements of the far right had been promoting since the failed acts of January 6th in DC, where armed putschists would take State capitals and public officials hostage. So, why did the FBI targetting Mr Baker? Why has he not been allowed private meetings with a lawyer since his detention? Why was he kept in solitary since his pre-trial time at the Federal Correction Institution at Tallahassee begun? On October 12th, 2021, Dan Baker was sentenced to 44 months in Federal Prison for “interstate communication of threats” for his facebook posts and his militant anti-fascism, including his time fighting Daesh or ISIS in Rojava. His defense is appealing the ruling, otherwise he's expected to be released at the soonest in March of 2024. For the hour, we're sharing our March 7th, 2021 conversation with Jack and Eric. Both are anti-racist activists, students of Daniel's yoga and jujitsu instruction and Eric was the roommate that was present at the time of the home invasion by the FBI. You can find links to articles about the case at the instagram account, @FreeDanBaker, you can contact support at DanBakerDonations@gmail.com (and use that to donate on PayPal) and find his amazon wishlist on the instagram. Welcome back to On The Grow, I'm Grace Lee. This is the sixty seventh episode into the binge-able Red Flags Series. "Along with this fast-paced hustle culture, technology gives us EVERYTHING we want. Everything is there at the touch of a button. When we're lazy or just don't have time to cook, we Postmate it. Or Uber Eats it. We get our food delivered to us in an hour or less RIGHT to our door. It's that easy. We are so used to figuring out how to optimize our time and our pleasures that forging real relationships doesn't register the same way. So when we start sending an eggplant emoji to a girl on a late night and she doesn't respond or doesn't want to come over, we get upset. Or if you want to hangout next week at 7 PM with a friend, and they can't do that specific time, you're bummed out. We're so used to getting what we want when we want it, we run away from the idea of slowing down and nurturing a real relationship. Don't even get me started on the dating apps." In Episode 67 on On The Grow, I talk about the people who claim to make plans once, twice, maybe even three times… and never follow through. These are the people who like to say A LOT, but when it comes to executing, it never happens. They like to talk up a big game of who they are, their plans, what they'll do… but then nothing. I call these people flakes — BIG. RED. FLAGS. I'll talk about the type of ‘flakes' I've experienced in my life, give you another perspective on why people flake, how to spot the red flags with these types of people and more. Markets See Fireworks With Netflix & Amazon Seeing All-Time Highs – Daily Financial News Summary for Monday, July 6, 2020 The markets saw post-Fourth of July fireworks on Monday. The Dow Jones rose by 1.78%, the S&P 500 by 1.59%, and the NASDAQ by 2.21%. The Russell 2000 rose at 0.77%, but did not feel the rally as much as the primary indexes. This was an all-time high for the NASDAQ composite. The markets saw a couple deals that influenced the rallies, including Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway making its first major deal amid market turmoil for the year. Berkshire Hathway acquired natural gas storage and transmission assets from Dominion Energy, which caused the Berkshire Hathaway A-class of shares to jump 2.4%, while Dominion Energy dropped 11%. Food delivery app Postmates was also acquired by Uber Technologies, in a $2.65 billion all-stock deal. This is likely going to give Uber Eats a gain in market share against competitors and sources said the deal was struck as Postmates experienced cashflow issues. READ MORE: https://callputstrike.com/2020/07/06/markets-see-fireworks-with-netflix-amazon-seeing-all-time-highs-daily-financial-news-summary-for-monday-july-6-2020/ Deal Insights: Uber Signs Deal To Acquire Postmates For $2.65 billion Uber Technologies Inc (NYSE: UBER) has reportedly inked a deal that will allow it to acquire a food delivery company called Postmates for $2.65 billion through an all-stock deal. The acquisition aligns with Uber's plan to double down on the food delivery business, and Postmates is the perfect match since it has already built a strong reputation through its food delivery app. The Initial reports about the colossal acquisition deal popped up during the weekend after Uber's board of directors approved the deal. Uber already has a food delivery business called Uber Eats that it has been working towards improving so that it can compete more effectively with rivals in the same segment. The food delivery business aligns with its ride-hailing business model, allowing it to tap into those synergies to generate more revenue. Uber is expected to reveal whether Postmates will be operated under Uber Eats as part of the acquisition or whether it will entirely absorb it. Pierre-Dimitri Gore-Coty, the current executive in charge of Uber Eats, is expected to operate the expanded food delivery business. Sources familiar with the matter claim that Postmate's CEO, Bastian Lehmann, will stay on board with his team to help run the food delivery business even after the acquisition deal is complete. The RHOBH ladies are still in the Bahamas but are unable to resolve the Lucy fiasco. Whether golfing, snorkeling, or shopping, everyone has an opinion. Alliances are forming, and Rinna is earning her paycheck by dialing up the drama!
Hello and welcome back to Equity, TechCrunch’s venture capital-focused podcast, where we unpack the numbers behind the headlines. This week was a treat. We had TechCrunch's own Connie Loizos in the studio along with your humble servant and General Catalyst's Niko Bonatsos. A fine group for a busy week. We had to pare our topic list some for length, but after working out what qualified as the biggest news from our usual orbit, we decided to touch on: Peloton's bank shopping: Peloton, the popular in-home cycling service, is looking for banks to help take it public. We riffed on its revenue, revenue growth, its possible margins, and price points. Peloton has become a big name in recent quarters due to its growth, and its marketing. We're excited to read the eventual S-1. Check here for historical context regarding its debut. Postmate's private IPO filing: Postmates actually filed, albeit privately, putting it a smidge further along the public-offering conveyer belt. The Postmates IPO will help the market better understand the food delivery marketplace, an area where a host of companies play. Including the company in our next topic! DoorDash's latest round: Yes, more money for food delivery. DoorDash is said to be on the hunt for $500 million more at a valuation around $6 billion. That's many dollars at a very high price. Oh, and don't forget this. Nuro's enormous check: Have you heard of Nuro? No? Neither had we. But it just raised over $900 million in a single go. Even for 2019, the delivery-robot-car company's fundraising is aggressive. And the latest in SaaS: Quickly, the private SaaS market looks hot, and the public SaaS market is scorching. It's a good time for SaaS. Which is odd, as it seemed that the world ended in December. All that and we had some fun. Thanks as always for listening to Equity, it's a treat to make for you each week. Stay cool!

Becca is late to the show because she was held up in the ER with a “hair emergency”, so Tanya runs the shift solo, which includes a visit from her “accountability coach”, Real Housewife Teddi Mellencamp, for some health and fitness tips. Once Becca arrives, they have a post-op meeting about the Golden Globes, and a discussion on if a man exists that is a full time doctor, part time Postmate. Plus, they offer some listener consultations, including one that is curious if she should audition for the Bachelor. Learn more about your ad-choices at https://news.iheart.com/podcast-advertisers

Johnny and Alex discuss episode 5 of season 2 of "Game of Thrones," "The Ghost of Harrenhal" along with the corresponding chapters of A Clash of Kings. Spoilers ALL. Not much plot movement here (aside from Renly's untimely demise), but plenty of discovery. Arya finds out she can Postmate murder, Theon realizes that his new crew feels the same way about him that his family does, Tyrion figures out Cersei's entire defensive strategy is a giant Molotov cocktail (and he's not mad at it), and Dany Paris Hiltons all over Qarth, but learns of Bobby B's death between cocktails. Time to invade Westeros now that her dragons can ALMOST cook a cube of meat. Oh, and Beyond the Wall, the audience finds out that Chuck Norris moved to Westeros, and he goes by the name of Quorin fucking Halfhand. Aside from Renly's death, this episode was an honest to goodness barrel of laughs, so we went a little long.. If you're reading along with us, here's a handy guide to help you follow along, since season 2 doesn't follow ACOC quite as neatly as season 1 followed GoT.. Joining us late? Just want to listen us without getting emotionally gutted a second time by re-experiencing the Red Wedding? We recap the episode play-by-play in the podcast, but you can find chapter summaries here if you want to enjoy our book-to-show comparisons more.
