El sexto y último día de tests en Baréin nos ha dejado una jornada casi “definitiva” en cuanto a sensaciones de parrilla: mucho trabajo serio, simulaciones de carrera por todas partes y, al mismo tiempo, una bomba de fiabilidad que afecta de lleno a Aston Martin y a su nueva alianza con Honda. Todo esto, analizado a fondo en el último podcast de la semana, analizando el día y la pretemporada. Graves, muy graves problemas. Mientras la mayoría de equipos cerraban programas completos y empezaban a enseñar las mejores vueltas de toda la pretemporada, Aston Martin ha quedado prácticamente fuera de juego: solo seis vueltas en todo el día, un día condicionado por la avería de batería del día anterior y la falta de recambios. Mientras, en pista, el rodaje era muy alto en casi toda la parrilla. Haas (170) y Racing Bulls (165) encabezaron el kilometraje, con Williams (141), Audi (135), Ferrari (132), Mercedes (131) y Red Bull (124) también muy por encima del centenar. McLaren completó 113 giros, y Cadillac se quedó en 99. En ese contexto de normalidad productiva, el dato de Aston Martin no es una anécdota: es un síntoma grave en el peor momento posible, con el inicio de temporada a la vuelta de la esquina. En contraste, para el resto de equipos, la mañana transcurrió con el patrón habitual: aerodinámica al inicio (parrillas de sensores voluminosas en todos) y, después, una sucesión de tandas largas tipo stint de carrera en buena parte de la parrilla. Problemas reales también en otros equipos. Hubo también un incidente relevante: bandera roja por la parada del Mercedes, que dejó entrever problemas reales de unidad de potencia. Se habló de pérdida de presión y el equipo terminó sustituyendo la unidad, sin volver a salir durante buena parte de la mañana. Aun así, Mercedes logró recopilar trabajo valioso más adelante, con Russell firmando tandas largas a ritmo constante en 1:36, aunque sin conocer cargas de combustible. La tarde elevó el nivel. Tras tandas largas desde el inicio (12 a 17 vueltas en varios coches), llegó el tramo más “visible” de los tests: a hora y media del final aparecieron simulaciones de clasificación y vueltas de rendimiento, con los mejores tiempos de toda la pretemporada. Es la típica secuencia del penúltimo y último día: primero se consolida el ritmo de carrera y luego se busca el titular del crono. Lecturas de las simulaciones. En el apartado de simulaciones, el día dejó lecturas claras. Se vieron programas de carrera (no siempre completos) en pilotos como Antonelli antes de la bandera roja, Piastri, Ocon, Lindblad y Sainz. Y simulaciones más completas (o cercanas a serlo) en Pérez, Ocon y Leclerc. En las referencias publicadas, Ocon firmó un promedio mejor que Pérez (1:40.355 frente a una simulación interrumpida y más lenta), y por la tarde aparecieron más tandas largas “limpias” con Lindblad (1:40.694) y Bearman (1:40.307), cada uno con estrategias distintas de compuestos. Una historia de contrastes. Pero el foco real del día estuvo lejos del cronómetro: Honda revienta. El comunicado oficial confirmó que el problema de batería del AMR26 de Alonso obligó a cambiar por completo el plan: programa limitadísimo, solo tandas cortas, y todo ello por escasez de piezas de la unidad de potencia. En otras palabras: Aston Martin llega a Australia sin haber completado una simulación de carrera completa y, peor aún, con una incertidumbre directa sobre la fiabilidad. El temor no es solo “estar lejos en ritmo”; es, literalmente, si podrán completar la distancia de carrera en Melbourne sin volver a romper. El contraste es duro porque el coche no ha pasado desapercibido: el AMR26 se describía como un concepto radical, con potencial de desarrollo y con el factor Newey como argumento a medio plazo. Pero la realidad inmediata es que sin fiabilidad no hay aprendizaje, y sin kilómetros no hay correlación ni mejoras. La temporada puede ser una carrera de fondo, sí, pero las primeras carreras se pueden convertir en un calvario si el paquete no permite ni “ver la bandera a cuadros”. Nuevas soluciones. En paralelo al drama de Honda-Aston, la jornada también dejó titulares técnicos: Mercedes llevó a Baréin una solución llamativa en el alerón trasero, con dos pequeños perfiles anclados al último elemento que permiten trabajar en una zona reglamentaria poco explorada y ganar carga cuando el ala va cerrada. Red Bull, por su parte, siguió mostrando detalles de ingeniería fina (el “truco” del bargeboard en la bandeja de té), y Haas modificó el wakeboard en su proceso de evolución. Qué podemos esperar de la temporada 2026. Fuera de pista, el paddock mira ya cara a cara a 2026. La FIA y los equipos continúan evaluando la compleja gestión energética del nuevo reglamento, con pruebas específicas en Baréin: desde reducciones de potencia del MGU-K para entender su impacto en la recarga, hasta la exploración de soluciones como el “superclipping” a potencias elevadas. La idea de fondo es clara: evitar cambios radicales antes de tener una muestra suficiente de carreras, pero ser proactivos si el sistema obliga a concesiones excesivas en clasificación y, sobre todo, en circuitos poco favorables a recargar energía, como el propio Melbourne. Y como telón de fondo, la F1 también estudia ajustes de formato para animar los viernes, además de mantener el debate sobre aumentar el número de sprints y hasta repetir grandes eventos globales de presentación en futuras temporadas. Es decir: mientras el campeonato afina su producto, en la pista Baréin ya está separando a los que llegan preparados… de los que llegan con incendios internos. El sexto día, en resumen, nos ha dejado una pretemporada que se empieza a “sentenciar” por tendencia: arriba, los equipos capaces de completar programas largos y mostrar rendimiento; y abajo, un Aston Martin atrapado en la pesadilla que ninguna escudería puede permitirse en febrero: romper, no tener piezas y no rodar. En Fórmula 1, el primer rival es el reloj. Y Aston, de momento, ni siquiera está pudiendo correr contra él. La temporada 2025 de Fórmula 1 será recordada como una de las más emocionantes de los últimos años, con una lucha por el título que se decidió en el último Gran Premio y un nuevo campeón histórico que rompe moldes. En los programas de esta semana del Podcast Técnica Fórmula 1 se hace un resumen exhaustivo de lo que nos dejó. Un nuevo Campeón. Tras 24 carreras, la Fórmula 1 volvió a coronar a un británico como Campeón. Lando Norris tuvo que esperar, eso sí, hasta Abu Dhabi para sellar una temporada de altibajos, resiliencia y momentos memorables para él y McLaren con un título, su primer título. Desde el inicio, la campaña estuvo marcada por la competitividad entre los principales contendientes: Norris (McLaren), Max Verstappen (Red Bull) y Oscar Piastri (McLaren). Todos llegaron a la última cita en Yas Marina con posibilidades matemáticas de alzarse con el título. Aunque Verstappen se hizo con la victoria de la carrera, el tercer puesto de Norris fue suficiente para asegurar el campeonato por apenas dos puntos de ventaja. El buen rollo y la rivalidad duraron hasta el último momento, y eso nos tuvo a todos los aficionados enganchados hasta el final. Y eso aún cuando algunas carreras – por ejemplo, las tres últimas – fueron de todo menos divertidas. Ganadores y Perdedores. Si McLaren se hizo con el Campeonato de Constructores muy pronto y con solvencia, las luchas en el equipo y los fallos garrafales de estrategia dejaron a sus pilotos en tensión hasta el último momento. Eso sí, ambos han demostrado tener lo que hay que tener para ser Campeones del Mundo. Aunque si hay que hablar de ganadores, Verstappen y Red Bull pueden no haberse alzado con el título, pero sí que han demostrado la pasta de la que están hechos. En el caso del holandés, nos ha dado espectáculo y ha vuelto a demostrar su excepcional velocidad y competitividad, imponiéndose en varias carreras clave. Pero también hay que hablar de perdedores. Y en este caso tenemos que hablar, lamentablemente, de Ferrari. Han vivido una temporada para el olvido, sin victorias y luchando, en muchas carreras, por no caer en Q1… sin conseguirlo. Una temporada muy intensa. A pesar de que toda la temporada ha sido digna de verse, ha habido algunos Grandes Premios más interesantes que otros. Nos quedamos, concretamente, con los de Países Bajos, Italia y México. Y ha habido actuaciones espectaculares más allá de las de los tres punteros. Así, Williams nos ha dejado con la boca abierta con su mejora de rendimiento en un año de transición en el que no han evolucionado el coche. Y Sainz ha brillado con luz propia dentro de ese equipo, en la segunda mitad de la temporada, una vez que se adaptó a la nueva máquina. El caso de Aston Martin ha sido, por otra parte, penoso en cuanto a rendimiento. Eso sí, hemos visto un Alonso brillante y feliz casi en cada carrera, esperando con ansias el 2026 y el nuevo coche diseñado por Newey. Otros pilotos que han subido mucho el nivel este año han sido Russell y Gasly, aun cuando el coche no les ayudaba, sobre todo al francés, en la mayor parte de las carreras. Y no nos olvidemos de Sauber – que se despedía de nombre esta temporada para convertirse en Audi en 2026 – y Hulkenberg y Bortoleto: grandes actuaciones de ambos. En definitiva, una temporada mucho más interesante que las últimas que hemos vivido y que nos deja en vilo para 2026, en el que viviremos un tremendo cambio normativo. This is a race like no other with the low temperatures and the track layout and tonight, Max and the Team mastered it. Let's jump right into our Quick Hits! First up, that F1 movie is hitting theaters on June 27th. Get ready, because due to insane demand, Warner Bros. and IMAX are actually expanding the Fan-First Premiere Screenings of Apple Original Film F1 to 400 IMAX locations worldwide. And guess what? We've got one right here in Coquitlam! Shifting gears to the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, it's wild to think that since 2016, only two drivers have taken the win there: Max Verstappen in 2016, 2022, 2023, and 2024, and Lewis Hamilton in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. Also, make sure to check out F1: The Academy when it drops on Netflix on May 28th. Fun fact: the last McLaren driver to win in Monaco was Lewis Hamilton back in 2008, the very year he became champion! Huge congrats are also in order for Spaniard Alex Palou for his Indy 500 win over Marcus Ericsson. That was his first-ever oval win, and he's been on fire, winning 5 out of 6 races and leading the championship by a whopping 108 points! Now, about Imola's future on the calendar... it's a bit up in the air with Madrid joining next year. Imola's contract is up, and there's talk about whether they'll get an extra year after missing 2023 due to flooding. Word on the street is F1 asked for a cool 60 million Euros to keep the race going. Just a heads-up, Barcelona's contract wraps up after 2026. On the partnership front, we've got some new big names! Pepsi has officially joined as an Official Partner of F1, with Sting Energy stepping in as the official Energy Drink, and Gatorade becoming the Official Partner of F1 Sprint. Stefano Domenicali has actually come out defending F1's Monaco GP tire change rule after some drivers voiced their criticism. And even though some folks called it a "garbage race," the ABC/ESPN ratings in the US were absolutely massive, pulling in the largest live audience ever for a Monaco Grand Prix telecast! Our main topic for discussion today is a big one: How can we actually fix the Monaco Grand Prix? We'll be diving into some feasible ways to create more overtaking opportunities and exploring proposed changes to the circuit itself to try and save the Grand Prix. In other F1 news, we'll be asking the question: Does Lewis Hamilton need a new engineer? We'll also share the full radio exchange from Hamilton's pretty frustrating Monaco GP. Mattia Binotto has admitted that Audi "won't have the best power unit" in 2026.
