Inkfish on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 9/8/22 About Inkfish - Tune in to a movement with heretical beliefs that deviate from those considered orthodox. Break away from larger modern culture and follow a different set of rules, created not to contain, but to expand. You are the culture medium. The host. Your lifestyle is the vehicle for something special. A bar, a club, a musical doctrine. We are just an agent, striving to create songs which symbolic territories are the archetypal cities of decadence, hedonism and melancholy. Tunes slowly emerging of textural substance from seemingly primordial depth — the fancy way of saying "simple but effective"). We worship the ideas of creation. So should you. --- We are four Swedes. Mattias Lindblom, Jesper Lindqvist + brothers Andreas and Johan Hermansson. Today all Inkfish productions are done by Andreas or Mattias. The label is managed by Andreas, who also do the dj'ing, together with Johan, while Jesper is our own version of Bez of Happy Mondays fame. Merits: One number one hit on Beatport, one overall top ten and several within the top ten, in Breaks, Chill Out, Deep House, Progressive House & Techno. Artists featured on Inkfish Recordings: The Scumfrog, Robert Owens, Style of Eye, Ramon Tapia, Sabb, Sergio Fernandez, Psycatron, Chronophone and many more. Our material on other labels: Azuli, Anjunadeep, Armada, Baroque, Bedrock, Doppelgaenger, Kosmo, Parquet, Renaissance, Stereo, Yellow Tail (BluFin) + many more.       About The DJ Sessions - “The DJ Sessions” is a Twitch/Mixcloud "Featured Partner” live streaming/podcast series featuring electronic music DJ's/Producers via live mixes/interviews and streamed/distributed to a global audience. Remmah returns to Ireland, as Rory Hamilton aka @thehammerhits welcomes a 9th label release, as the Derry duo consisting of Dave Lievense and Stephen Porter aka @opusklien drop their brand new Aeronautic EP. Dave Lievense and Stephen Porter have spent years honing hard-won reputations for quality on their own projects before linking up to form Opus Klien, with Lievense best known as one half of Hotflush, Planet E and Cocoon-affiliated outfit Psycatron, and Porter building one of Ireland's most highly regarded events series, Jika Jika! Having made a mark with a pair of remixes and a run of thunderous live performances, including regular appearances at The Warehouse Project and dates supporting Daniel Avery and Dense & Pika, the Aeronautic EP finds the Irish duo's debut EP mining both their shared acid house and bleep techno influences, and the electronic pop & avant garde music of their youth. The resultant four tracks ride waves of euphoria and intensity that made them a perfect fit for the cosmic techno/italo/acid-infused sound Hammer has established in his curation of the label so far – making an appearance himself with his own sharp & to-the-point reshaping of Monsters. Rod B. & Mareis bring you the Miami Sessions @ Miami Underground Movement Christian Smith has been at the top of his game as a DJ and producer for over a decade, but despite enjoying a global reputation as one of the most evergreen performers in his field, times have never been quite as good as they are right now. Born in Sweden, Christian spent much of his youth and early adult life in Germany and America. This exposure to different cultures gave Christian a broader ou tlook than most 30-somethings, even for a well-travelled DJ more familiar with Star Alliance lounges than home comforts. This open-minded outlook comes through loud and clear in the music he makes and plays. While his roots lie in techno, Christian has never been a purist; favouring instead to flavour the tough, rhythmical music he loves with heavy doses of funk or intersperse the raw energy of his sets with inspired moments of pure euphoria. 2009 has been quite a ride so far, and the signs are all there that this year will be Christian Smith’s busiest to date. Having recently relocated to Sao Paulo, Brazil from Spain, it would have been easy to lose touch with the scene’s beating pulse in Europe. Not so for the man whose recent production schedule reads like a discography wish list. Christian Smith & John Selway’s “Total Departure” on Adam Beyer’s Drumcode label was one of the tunes if 2008. This was followed by three singles for John Digweed’s Bedrock label which were all a massive success in the clubs and retail stores, as were his releases on Dubfire’s Sci+Tec label, Renaissance, and Steve Lawler’s Viva imprint. The Smith & Selway remix of the Kevin Saunderson classic “Rock To The Beat” was another massive success in Ibiza, and there were other superb remixes for Valentino Kanzyani’s Jesus Loves You, Nic Fanciulli’s Saved and Dieb Audio. The end result – over 30,000 downloads on Beatport in 2008. The second half of 2009 will be dominated by the first in a trilogy of mix compilations for legendary clubbing brand, Renaissance. The release of Christian Smith – Platform in September will put Christian on a footing with other Renaissance acts Sander Kleinenberg, Hernan Cattaneo, James Zabiela and Steve Lawler and provide the continuity for a mammoth 30+ date world tour that will stop off at parties across Europe, Asia, Australia, North and South America over the coming months. As a DJ, Christian plays everything between house and techno. Never one for a purist approach, he simply believes that people go out to party. The secret is in the energy that he creates, as witnessed in 2008 at Wire Festival, Tokyo; Brazil’s Skol Beats Festival; Awakenings Festival, Amsterdam (featuring a Smith & Selway live show), Space, Ibiza (with Carl Cox), Ministry Of Sound, London (with Pete Tong); and Fabric’s new uber-cool, Matter alongside John Digweed and James Zabiela. Honoured as Carl Cox’s “Hero of 2008” and with the success of his productions breeding a renewed energy for studio time, the natural next step was for Christian to re-launch his Tronic label. Kicking off in January with a re-release of the Smith & Selway’s classic “Move!” including chart topping remix from Steve Angello, the label has progressed at a pace to place Christian back at the centre of underground music. Featuring tracks from Umek, Mark Broom, Stryke, Fergie and Psycatron, Tronic has resurfaced with a bang and looks set to track Christian’s personal upward trajectory. Look out for future singles from cutting edge producers including Steve Mac, Ramon Tapia, Jim Rivers and Anton Pieete. With massive crossover support for his music from DJ's across the house and techno spectrum the future looks very certain for Christian Smith. Proof if it was needed that it is possible to reinvent your sound and maintain a position at the very top within the vanguard of electronic music. Psycatron live from Distillery Leipzig (GER) 2011 is set to be a big year for Irish techno duo Psycatron aka Paul Hamill & Dave Lievense as they take their project to the next level. 2009 Started off with a string of high profile productions being released on some of the world's most respected labels, they received props from some of the biggest names in the business and record sales flying high in the Beatport charts. 2009 began with the Location Unknown EP on Fergie's Rekluse imprint. The lead track 'Takefive' was a huge smash at the Miami Winter Music Conference with everyone from DJ Hell to Sasha (who was closing his sets it with) making it one of the biggest records of the conference. From Belfast to Detroit followed, with the master Carl Craig signing 'Deeper Shades Of Black' for Planet E Communications making them the first Irish artist to appear on the Detroit imprint. 'Deeper Shades' spent 6 weeks in the Beatport Top 20 peaking at Number 5 with only Cirez D, Adam Beyer, Joris Voorn and Sebastian Leger standing in the way of pole position. Then from Detroit to Sao Paolo in Brazil, where Christian Smith's Tronic Music delivered the devastating 'Directions' and 'Tipping Point' with charts and plays coming in from everyone from Dubfire to Digweed. 'Directions' remixes followed soon after from Matt Nordstrom and Fergie well as featuring on Christian Smith's Platforms compilation for Renaissance. A bit closer to home and an appearance on London based Simple Records demonstrated a deeper, subtle edge at the opposite end of the spectrum from their previous big-room releases but still retaining the signature melodic touches with the 'Orchestral Manouvres In The Park' EP showing up on Will Saul's highly respected imprint. As if to prove that getting signed to Planet E was no flash in the pan, they then went on to sign a deal with legendary Belgian imprint R&S Records home to the likes of Aphex Twin, Joey Beltram and Derrick May who released 'Is What it Is' in November, before rounding the year off with a specially commissioned Transitions mix for John Digweed's radio show. “I think Planet E are one of the most revered labels in the world and it never ceases to amaze us when we meet other well established producers who tell us how much they'd love to release a record on the label and how jealous they are of us! We went from a position where nobody knew about us to releasing on Planet E and all of a sudden lots of doors begin to open and people start taking notice.”PH As the list of Psycatron supporters continues to grow, it starts to read like a who's who of quality underground electronica with everyone from Ewan Pearson to Joris Voorn, DJ Hell, Dave Clarke, Paul Woolford and even Martin L Gore from Depeche Mode all getting behind Psycatron. “I've been into electronic music since i was a kid, from hearing eighties electro-pop on the radio i became a huge Depeche Mode fan (and still am) and their influence creeps into a lot of our music. I played piano for a few years as a kid, but never followed through on it as what I really wanted to play was synths and DJ.”PH With the theme set to continue well into 2010 with Psycatron tracks appearing on the world-famous Radio 1 Essential Mix two weeks running with Simian Mobile Disco and Christian Smith favouring them in their sets, while remix offers have since come flooding in with labels including Cocoon, Bedrock, International Deejay Gigolo, and Secret Cinema's Gemm Recordings all notched on the bedpost for the year. Having spent the past seven years hosting their residency at the world-famous Shine and the Stiff Kitten in Belfast where they've supported some of the biggest DJ's on the planet, 2011 will be the year where Psycatron's winning combination of killer DJ sets and live shows will see them emerge as one of the most exciting acts of the year as their profile continues to grow on a global scale. “When we play live, it's all our own music which we perform live using a couple of laptops and controllers and some keyboards. We also throw in some loops and samples from people who have influenced us over the years and little surprises along the way.” PH Big festivals and events like Hitting Movement 2010 in Detroit in May with Carl Craig and millions more are becoming the norm now for Psycatron, they have played all the big Irish festivals and recently being asked by Dave Clarke to play his party at Amsterdam Dance Event with himself and Green Velvet and friends. Rex Club in Paris has come calling giving psycatron their undeniable stamp of approval and with shows in Naples and Helsinki its easy to see that psycatron are really turning some heads. “It's only when we go abroad that it becomes apparent through meeting people at our shows how far our music has travelled. It's easy to forget when you are back in Belfast on a tiny little island the impact our releases have had around the world, i guess that's a lot to do with working with truly global labels like Planet E, but it's a lovely feeling having strangers come up to us at gig to talk about our music” PH Exiting collaborations are to continue with Detroit legend Blake Baxter on 'She Is Music' which came out on Planet E in October. Also and a new project with Paul Woolford on tracks Thunder/CLoud 9 for Cocoon which is the start of ongoing project with more tracks in the pipeline! An AV twist for the live show is being developed at the moment so expect to see this hitting the clubs 2011. He’s been completely immersed in Dance culture for well over a decade now, a fact reflected by his ability to craft the kind of imaginative mixes only heard from the most dedicated record spinners. It’s this asset, combined with his notorious enthusiasm behind the decks that paved the way for his amalgamation into the team at Slide, one of Oxford & London’s foremost authorities on hosting House & Techno events. Throughout his involvement with the brand, he has been fortunate enough to play to sizeable crowds on a monthly basis at Oxford’s O2 Academy, and has warmed up for the likes of Nic Fanciulli, Adam Freeland, Krafty Kuts, Stanton Warriors, and Style Of Eye amongst many others. He’s also had the privilege of being chosen to warm up for Erol Alkan with Simple (Oxford’s flagship Dance promotion), invited for several guest spots on Oxford FM, and repeatedly booked for boat parties and the burgeoning Out To Graze Festival for 3 consecutive years alongside fellow turntable maestro Dave Johnys. It’s safe to say he’s been a busy lad, but he hasn’t limited himself to local events. Spreading his wings and delving into the turbulent London scene has thrown up some of the most memorable experiences, such as a particular booking at SeOne (during a Tidy vs. NuReligion hard-house event). Having the courage to stick to the music he believed in led to his set (B2B with good friend Chris Page) packing out an empty dancefloor, despite playing intelligent techno to a room full of day-glow ravers who had never heard anything like it. It’s gigs like this that have sparked his enthusiasm for DJing in London, and subsequently joining the team at Kai-Zen has provided Andy with a much larger podium to shout from. Despite 2011 being a quiet year with regards to club appearances, Andy has used the time to start getting to grips with music production, and the intricacies of Ableton Live 8. He’s the first to admit that he should have made a start on this a long time ago, but as is so often the case, life’s distractions have kept his attentions elsewhere. Regardless, 2011 was a significant year whereby his move into the complex world of music creation meant that he also took some time to consider the music he was supporting. Whilst Andy is always extremely vocal in his adoration of Chicago-House, Deep-House, and Progressive (or anything with a decent groove for that matter), he found that his tastes had slowly adapted to favour the more leftfield abstract Techno of such artists as Luke Abbott, Nathan Fake, Dominik Eulberg, and Caribou. With that in mind, he has made the conscious decision to start openly embracing this style of music (regardless of whether it leads to an incline or decrease in bookings), and base his sets on Techno for those with a more open mind to Dance music. With regards to influences, Andy would never profess to have a page-long list, but one DJ/Producer that does spring to mind again and again is James Holden. As his friends will testify, Andy’s love for all things Holden is boundless, mainly due to the forward-thinking nature of the music released on his Border Community imprint and the unparalleled approach Holden has to music. Following closely behind would have to be Nick Warren. His reason for influence stems from his respect for a man who still has an unmatched passion for pushing new and interesting music, despite being in the industry since year dot. As a proud member of the Electronica scene, Andy would hope that this ethos of never compromising music quality will serve him well as a DJ guideline, and that through this he’ll never be regarded as ‘just another DJ’.

The music emanating from the man is that perfect club mix of driving percussion and soaring musicality, bursting out of the speakers, soaking everyone in melody, drenching them in sound. On the floor, where it really matters, his crowd experience all the peaks and troughs that make his music so unique. Locking on early, you'll hear his deeper take on house, which morphs, as the club mood changes, into harder territory, music for sweating and losing yourself to. And at that point when the light are low, when smoke fills the room and people are dancing on instinct, that's when the melodies start to rise over the top, washing the worries and exertions of life away, completing the club experience. That's why Nick Warren is so respected, because he knows how to truly work a club, and a crowd, delivering again and again. That's what comes with vision and, just as importantly, experience. Nick, a music obsessive who grew up on punk, reggae and pop was, like so many DJs turned onto the power of house music in the late 80s. Living in Bristol, he'd been playing tunes for a few years before, running his own club night, Wiggle, in the city with a friend and he took immediately to this new sound coming from America. In 1990, a new house club, Vision took the city by storm and in a perfect bit of timing, he was offered the chance to play in the upstairs room, spinning weird downbeat Balearic records and mixing house with music by The Clash and Frank Sinatra. Catching the attention of a group of guys who had their own band, he was roped in to tour with them as their DJ when they went to play America. The group was Massive Attack. As their official DJ, he began working on music of his own. Joining up with another Bristol producer, Jody Wisternoff in 1994 to form Way Out West, they recorded the seminal 'Ajare' single together, a huge progressive house club hit. Three years later, and with the duo now signed to Deconstruction, it was re-released, this time breaking into the charts and finally, the nation's consciousness. Then came 'The Gift'. With a memorable hook line culled from an old hardcore track, its mix of ambient soundscapes and breaks won it universal plaudits, sending Nick and Jody onto Top of the Pops and catapulting Nick into the league of the superstar DJ. Their three albums, 'Blue' and "Intensify" and took every single one of the pair's influences and shaped them into a groundbreaking collection of tracks that stayed in the CD players of the UK and beyond for a long, long time. Their third album “Don’t Look Now” was released in 2005, which they toured as a live band with Faithless. Album Four We Love Machine has just been released. And yet all this history has been eclipsed by Nick’s present: a DJ career spanning a decade and a half via his lengthy residency superclub Cream and then every self respecting club on the planet. His sound, which is entirely unique, sourced by forging relationships with cutting edge producers all over the globe, most of his set still made up of unsigned new electronic talent. This is no better represented than in the continuing series of compilations. “Back to Mine”, Renaissance his eighth Global Underground album, this time from the wild environs of Lima making him the most featured artists for this huge compilation series. He has also taken over A&R at Hope Recordings as the final link in the chain that allows him to represent the sound that he has so long championed. Nick Warren isn't for standing still, he loves what he's doing too much for that, but you know that already. If you want to see Nick in action, then check him out at the Gallery @ Ministry of Sound this Friday!! Here’s the event link The Gallery presents Nick Warren Peace!
