Thanks for tuning-in today for a new episode of Thriving Practice. In today's episode, I'm speaking with Justin Maxwell of Big Life Financial.  Our conversation covered a lot, with a strong focus on how to reduce the financial stressors that you will likely experience along the way in your career. I recommend you take notes and reach out to Justin if you're curious about paying down student loans or learning more about how to take charge of your wealth. If you're in healthcare, you likely have student loans. So, you'll want to listen closely to what Justin says about paying off your loans, and how you might be able to capitalize on the tax code that can help you bring your payment down substantially to zero, or nearly to zero.  His parting wisdom is: Don't let the tax tail wag the dog and dictate your financial life. There's a better way to do this. Learning how to get your hard-earned money to work for you is something we hear about a lot, and this conversation with Justin highlights several ways to make that happen.  Bio: Justin Maxwell is a tax and wealth strategist. He helps business owners, particularly medical professional business owners, plug money leaks, become more efficient with the money earned and create the certainty needed to live a big life. He has helped hundreds of business owners around the country saves tens of millions of dollars in taxes and student loan interest. He is married to a beautiful woman and the father of three rambunctious boys. Most people coach you on how to make more money or how to grow your money. Do you understand the difference between tax deductions and tax credits?  Now how about tax incentives? Justin Maxwell, President of Small Business Incentive Consultants, educates us on the concepts of cost segregation, R&D tax credits, Employee Retention credits and more.  It is common in his practice to see small businesses underutilize tax incentives, essentially leaving more money on the table at tax time.  As a small business, this is a wasted opportunity to grow and scale with these unclaimed funds. In fact the average business overpays $11,000 a year in taxes; resulting in approximately $330,000 over 30 years! If you have specific questions regarding tax incentives, visit https://www.sbincentiveconsultants.com/Don't forget to inquire about the free E-book.Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/wealthwatchers)

Justin Maxwell is part of Big Life Financial and has a specialty in Research and Development Tax Credits in various companies. This is the unedited podcast recording of this session. I'll admit I went down a few rabbit holes and rants. This is why I try not to do these when I'm tired. My hope is that you can dig through the dirt to get the gold. Consult ROI doesn't just focus what the person does for a living, we go into WHY they do what they do, how their life experience has helped them in their life and how it can apply and benefit your life even if you don't qualify or need their specialty, like RnD Tax Credits. He has a background in physical therapy and fitness which is a big jump to most people to drop it and go into accounting and go into specialty of credits and rebates so here's his life journey. Today we are welcoming Justin Maxwell to The CEO Doctor Podcast! Justin is President of Small Business Incentive Consultants who specialize in the most underutilized tax strategy. The R&D Credits and other government incentives are probably the most underutilized small business tax strategy. Of the small businesses that qualify only 5% are claiming the credits. That means that an ASTOUNDING 95% of small businesses are leaving on average $10k-$50k a year at the IRS. Can you imagine over a ten-year period missing out on $100,000-$500,000 simply because you didn’t claim a government-sponsored tax credit or incentive?!How do you know if you qualify for these credits? If at least two of the following list apply to you and you haven’t claimed the credit in the past you are probably missing out on tens of thousands of dollars a year and potentially hundreds of thousands for some businesses:1. Offer employee health insurance WITHOUT receiving wellness incentives2. Custom design your solution over an “off the shelf” solution3. Pay at least $10,000 a year in taxes4. Perform any design work5. Have multiple locations6. Own the building7. Perform or attend training for you or your team in person or online8. Upgraded or improved your website9. Initiated a social media campaign10. Made adjustments to your business model11. Changed procedures or processes12. Taken any risk13. Manufacture a product14. Spent money on a machine/product to improve efficiency15. Utilize tech/software to improve efficiency It only takes 20 minutes to see if you qualify for these credits and how much you qualify for! What do you get if you combine a virtual receptionist service with artificial intelligence? Spoiler alert: The answer is not robots answering the phone. He has designed products and led teams for Google, Apple, Mint (Intuit), Sony, and a number of startups. Maddy Martin, head of growth and education. This week we had a lot to cover, including Danny Duffy's bid for a perfect game, Alex Gordon's bombs on Sunday, Sal Perez getting hurt, Justin Maxwell getting designated for assignment, 810 Zone snubs, and some developments in baseball that could lead to an alternative to Mike Moustakas.Along with that, we also talked about some of the newly unveiled features of MLB's developing player tracking system and some ways it can be applied, which led to a discussion about just how to enjoy the game. There's been some discussion recently about the split between casual fan and hardcore stathead fan and how the game should be watched. Locally, Bob Fescoe has been critical of those who like to look at stats, while Bob Ryan of the Boston Globe wrote a column suggesting that stat fans only wanted to look at stats and not watch the game. Jeff and Mike think there's room for both, and they tell you why that is and how they watch a ballgame, and what that means in relation to the stats that are out there.

It's the time of year when all the prospect lists start hitting the press, and we took a look at two of them: MLB.com's top 100 and the top 101 from Baseball Prospectus. What followed was a look at the differences between the two. MLB had four Royals listed; BP had seven. Why? We talked about the differing perspectives we saw in the building of the lists and talked about some of the intriguing players like Sean Manaea, who both sides liked (but only one ranked), and Yordano Ventura, who both liked, but BP *really* liked. We also did a brief look around the state of the AL Central and discussed ZiPS projections and the Clay Davenport 77-85 projection for the Royals 2014 record that everyone's been bringing up. Along with those, we talked about the relative importance of stats in analyzing the game, and how projections can answer some questions, and don't answer others. Then, we looked at the starting pitching market in the wake of the Mashiro Tanaka signing with New York and Matt Garza's deal with the Brewers, including a comparison of Ervin Santana and Ubaldo Jimenez and what their value really is now and what it might be in the future. We also included a brief discussion of the value of contracts. Finally, we wrapped up with a few little odds and ends - Jon Rauch signed a minor league deal, Justin Maxwell settled on an arbitration amount, FanFest is coming again (and listen to the episode to see how you can win some money to Kelly's Westport Inn) - before digging into Royalman's quest to reach the MLB Fan Cave and finishing with some words about Mike MacFarlane and Bob Kendrick making it into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.

He’s been completely immersed in Dance culture for well over a decade now, a fact reflected by his ability to craft the kind of imaginative mixes only heard from the most dedicated record spinners. It’s this asset, combined with his notorious enthusiasm behind the decks that paved the way for his amalgamation into the team at Slide, one of Oxford & London’s foremost authorities on hosting House & Techno events. Throughout his involvement with the brand, he has been fortunate enough to play to sizeable crowds on a monthly basis at Oxford’s O2 Academy, and has warmed up for the likes of Nic Fanciulli, Adam Freeland, Krafty Kuts, Stanton Warriors, and Style Of Eye amongst many others. He’s also had the privilege of being chosen to warm up for Erol Alkan with Simple (Oxford’s flagship Dance promotion), invited for several guest spots on Oxford FM, and repeatedly booked for boat parties and the burgeoning Out To Graze Festival for 3 consecutive years alongside fellow turntable maestro Dave Johnys. It’s safe to say he’s been a busy lad, but he hasn’t limited himself to local events. Spreading his wings and delving into the turbulent London scene has thrown up some of the most memorable experiences, such as a particular booking at SeOne (during a Tidy vs. NuReligion hard-house event). Having the courage to stick to the music he believed in led to his set (B2B with good friend Chris Page) packing out an empty dancefloor, despite playing intelligent techno to a room full of day-glow ravers who had never heard anything like it. It’s gigs like this that have sparked his enthusiasm for DJing in London, and subsequently joining the team at Kai-Zen has provided Andy with a much larger podium to shout from. Despite 2011 being a quiet year with regards to club appearances, Andy has used the time to start getting to grips with music production, and the intricacies of Ableton Live 8. He’s the first to admit that he should have made a start on this a long time ago, but as is so often the case, life’s distractions have kept his attentions elsewhere. Regardless, 2011 was a significant year whereby his move into the complex world of music creation meant that he also took some time to consider the music he was supporting. Whilst Andy is always extremely vocal in his adoration of Chicago-House, Deep-House, and Progressive (or anything with a decent groove for that matter), he found that his tastes had slowly adapted to favour the more leftfield abstract Techno of such artists as Luke Abbott, Nathan Fake, Dominik Eulberg, and Caribou. With that in mind, he has made the conscious decision to start openly embracing this style of music (regardless of whether it leads to an incline or decrease in bookings), and base his sets on Techno for those with a more open mind to Dance music. With regards to influences, Andy would never profess to have a page-long list, but one DJ/Producer that does spring to mind again and again is James Holden. As his friends will testify, Andy’s love for all things Holden is boundless, mainly due to the forward-thinking nature of the music released on his Border Community imprint and the unparalleled approach Holden has to music. Following closely behind would have to be Nick Warren. His reason for influence stems from his respect for a man who still has an unmatched passion for pushing new and interesting music, despite being in the industry since year dot. As a proud member of the Electronica scene, Andy would hope that this ethos of never compromising music quality will serve him well as a DJ guideline, and that through this he’ll never be regarded as ‘just another DJ’.
