We continue our conversation on radical, Christian love by talking with musician and song-writer, John Mark McMillan. Known for songs like, “How He Loves,” John Mark McMillan shares his thoughts on the important topic of how Christians should represent Christ's love in the Church. We'll discuss the challenge of connecting deeply with others who see the world differently and ask tough questions like: Are Christians losing sight of the radical love Jesus calls us to? Does cancel-culture have a place within Jesus' church? Should a Christian strive to have a soft heart toward every single person? These questions and more with John Mark McMillan. At top of the episode, three students from Seacoast's Southeastern University—all Generation Z—discuss culture, technology, and the "love topic" at hand.On this EpisodeJohn Mark McMillan / Instagram / WebsiteJoey Svendsen, host / InstagramSEU Seacoast ContributorsGrace Duchan / InstagramTyler Nivar / InstagramGrace Ilagan / InstagramExecutive Producer: Josh SurrattProducer/Editor: Joey SvendsenSound Engineer/Editor: JT PriceSound Engineer: Katelyn VandiverMusic, including theme song: Joel T. Connecting deeply with others who see the world differently seems like a challenge these days. Even inside the Church, it can appear that Christians are losing sight of the radical love Jesus calls us to. Pastor Kristin Mockler Young from Mosaic Church (Charlotte, NC) shares her thoughts on this important topic. Does cancel culture have a place within Jesus' church? Should a Christian strive to have a soft heart toward every single person? These questions and more with Pastor Kristin. In a world that celebrates individuality and autonomy, too many of us struggle to form deep, meaningful relationships. Loneliness is the norm, rich friendships are rare, and the church is no exception. We long for real community but often don't know how to get there. What will it take to develop healthy friendships? That's the description from today's book.
Today on the show, we welcome Justin Kendrick. Justin is an author, and the pastor of Vox Church. In 1831, Joseph Smith received a revelation calling elders to preach to the Shaker community near Kirtland. This revelation not only refuted Shaker beliefs, but it also helps Latter-day Saints today better understand why the truths they have are so important. Pod # 27 The Radical Christian Life A lot of missionaries get a radical call to go to the field, but then don't live their lives radically once they get there In this Pod, I have a conversation with a guy who left the pastorate to move his family to the Middle East. He has had many humbling experiences both on and off the field but has kept his focus on following his calling no matter the cost. He is passionate about living the Radical Christian Life and has a relentless focus on God, the Gospel, and discipleship. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. "After 12 years in the Middle East, when everything was going well; we were being blessed, our ministry was being blessed, we were working in our '10', God called us back to our home country…And it was a deserter. I found myself at 50 years old going from the top of my game to being unemployed." Welcome to More Christ, where we seek to bring some of the world's most interesting and insightful guests to discuss life's central and abiding questions. In this twenty first episode in a series of discussions, I'm joined by William Henry Willimon. William is an American theologian and bishop in the United Methodist Church, retired, who for eight years served the North Alabama Conference. He is currently Professor of the Practice of Christian Ministry and Director of the Doctor of Ministry program at Duke Divinity School. He is former Dean of the Chapel at Duke University and is considered by many as one of America's best-known and most influential preachers. A Pulpit & Pew Research on Pastoral Leadership survey determined that he was one of the two most frequently read writers by pastors in mainline Protestantism alongside the Roman Catholic writer Henri Nouwen. His books have sold over a million copies. He is also Editor-At-Large of The Christian Century. His 2019 memoir Accidental Preacher was released to wide acclaim, described by Justo L. Gonzalez as "An exceptional example of theology at its best."

Kindness costs nothing and it enhances our lives and those around us. And yet our world is full of random acts of unkindness. How can we change this? How can we extend the boundaries of faith and spirituality to bring the best of ourselves to a world in crisis. Podcaster, musician, writer and theologian David Blower talks about Christianity and kindness and the climate crisis with Accidental Gods. more at https://accidentalgods.life
Sofia and Adrianna talk about hospitality. How can we learn to welcome others? What elements of our economy and culture are hostile to hospitality? And what do love, sacrifice, and heaven have to do with it? Our weekly challenge is to make a home-cooked meal and share it with someone. And our media recommendation is the film Babette's Feast. We'd love to hear from you! Write to us at pilgrimsoulpodcast@gmail.com or find us on Instagram at @pilgrimsoulpodcast. Other resources we mention: - Dorothy Day's reflection from the Dec 1945 issue of The Catholic Worker - Luigi Giussani's text “The Miracle of Hospitality” - The Rule of Saint Benedict - St. Bernard of Clairvaux's Sermons on the Song of Songs - CS Lewis' sermon “The Weight of Glory” Our theme music is Nich Lampson's “Dolphin Kicks.”

Cat McFedries joins me to talk about youth spiritual and religious formation and how some radical pastoring that she received as a young person might have put her off the church, but it didn't put her off the person of Jesus. This disconnect between the heart of the gospel, which is on the streets, and the fears of the church as it sits on the pews needs to change according to Cat. Until then the church will be a thing of growing irrelevance to today's young people.

The Gospel Calls for Radical Christian Hospitality.
Our life and ministry should reflect Jesus's own and have a radical, risk-taking, sacrificial flavor.
