After President Donald Trump threatened to single out Apple with tariffs, he offered remarks to reporters that undercut his case. First he seemed to say this would apply to many iPhone makers, but then reiterated he'd said this straight to Apple CEO Tim Cook, a potentially serious abuse of power. Then Trump said U.S.-manufactured jobs would not result in higher prices due to automation, but this concedes that the manufacturing work he hopes tariffs will create are low-level jobs that might get replaced. And then he all-but-admitted that his threat to get companies to “eat” the cost of his tariffs really could mean potentially higher prices for consumers. All these oddities taken together wreck the fraudulent arguments he's been making. We talked to Monica Potts, the new class politics reporter at The New Republic, who usefully synthesizes all of it to explain what's wrong with Trump-MAGA manufacturing nostalgia and why the Trump-GOP agenda comprehensively works against his stated goal of creating good American jobs. Kia ora,Welcome to Tuesday's Economy Watch where we follow the economic events and trends that affect Aotearoa/New Zealand.I'm David Chaston and this is the international edition from Interest.co.nz.And today we lead with news US Treasury yields are rising today on growing American recession fears may prompt investors to question the safety of US Treasuries as a haven asset. The risk premium jumped after a weekend to think about last week's yield falls. But Wall Street equities have stopped falling. They are not rising either as investors ponder what to do. But last week's sell-off is baked in. They rose after reports of a tariff pause, but fell when this was denied. Then Trump threatened China with 50% tariffs because they retaliated. Gloom returned. And EU ministers are meeting to coordinate their response, and 25% retaliatory tariffs are likely on "some goods".Everyone, except Trump (and his acolytes), can see that this mob-boss theatre will just produce a combination of recession and inflation. And the US won't be immune. The situation is an "urgent problem" for policymakers worldwide, including central banks. Ours meets tomorrow but because this is a fast developing situation, maybe it is too soon to expect a comprehensive response. It is a situation that will play out over years, but we will still want to see our fiscal and monetary policymakers working to contain the impending fallout as best they can.In Canada, their central bank's Business Outlook Survey is reporting widespread concern. Business conditions have deteriorated due to the trade conflict with the United States. Sales outlooks have softened, particularly for exporters. Firms reported having sufficient capacity, and many are delaying investment and hiring decisions amid uncertainty. Firms expect the widespread tariffs will raise costs and lead to higher selling prices. In this context, expectations for inflation are higher.China' FX reserves rose in March, but their overall reserves rose more mostly because they purchased a little more gold and that took their holdings to just under 2300 tonnes. The March gold price zoomed higher, bolstering other reserves. This may reverse sharply in April if the gold price keeps on tracking down.Away from the economic news, we probably should note that while China's overall population is in decline, not all regions are. The Pearl River Guangdong region in from Hong Kong grew by 740,000 to 127.8 million (+0.6%), and births rose by +100,000 to 1.13 mln (+0.8%) in the 2024 year. If this region was its own country, these demographic changes would be impressive. But it does highlight how fast some other parts of China are shrinking.Overall, the recent Qingming Festival (Tomb Sweeping) holiday saw 790 million cross-regional trips in China, an increase of +7.1, a record high for this holiday period.European retail sales rose +2.3% in February in the euro area on a volume (real) basis, quite a bit better than expected and its best rose since September 2024. In the wider EU it was up +2.0% and still a quite positive shift.German industrial production however was down a sharpish -4.0% in February from the same month a year ago, although to be fair the year-ago benchmark was unusually high. On a seasonally adjusted basis the decline was "only" -1.3%. German export growth is rising however. In Australia yesterday, their pre-election Budget update was released. The underlying cash deficit in the 12 months ending June 30 will be -AU$28 bln, swelling to -AU$42 bln through June 2026, they now say. That's going from -1.0% of GDP to -1.5% of GDP. "[The] escalation in trade hostilities has created significant economic uncertainty and exacerbates the risks to the economic and fiscal outlook", they say.The UST 10yr yield is now at 4.15%, up +15 bps from this time yesterday. Risk premiums are jumping. The price of gold will start today at just on US$2966/oz, and down -US$71 from yesterday, down -2.3% and "just another commodity". Holders are selling to cover margin calls now.Oil prices have dropped another +50 USc from yesterday at just on US$61.50/bbl in the US and the international Brent price is now just under US$65/bbl.The Kiwi dollar is now at 55.5 USc, down -40 bps from yesterday. Against the Aussie we are unchanged at 92.5 AUc. Against the euro we down -40 bps from yesterday at just on 50.7 euro cents. That all means our TWI-5 starts today now just on 65.5 and down -30 bps from yesterday. The bitcoin price starts today at US$78,846 and down -2.8% from this time yesterday. Volatility over the past 24 hours has been very high at +/- 4.1%.You can find links to the articles mentioned today in our show notes. You can get more news affecting the economy in New Zealand from interest.co.nz.Kia ora. [EP 25-129] Ah, the Left. Where do we even begin? Their list of atrocities against this country is so extensive, it makes War and Peace look like a Post-it note. And right at the top of their greatest hits? The border invasion—a disaster so easily fixed by President Trump that it left Democrats scrambling for excuses like a toddler caught with a hand in the cookie jar. Remember when they swore up and down that securing the border required bipartisan support? It would take an act of Congress, a herculean task only achievable through endless compromise and hand-wringing? Then Trump waltzed in, plugged the leaks, and even convinced illegals to deport themselves—much to the Left's horror. You could practically hear their heads exploding when they realized their entire narrative had been reduced to rubble. “But… but… how will you deport millions?!” , they shrieked. “Like this,” said Trump. This week we're looking at how folks who associated themselves with the magical and morbid QAnon memes about the “coming storm” that would destroy the Deep State have become that storm, mainly by talking about it, and are now in the position to congeal an even Deeper State characterized by more repression and control. They're doing it both as conspiracists and as conspiracy theorists would predict: as rich guys pretending to be oppressed. This opens up the question of “Have we been here before in the US, and what happened?” The parallels are uncanny. In the late 1920s, Henry Ford had his car dealers stick copies of The Dearborn Independent newspaper in the glove compartments of new cars. That was the rag in which he published excerpts of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Today another auto baron, Elon Musk, busts out seigheils and posts Nazi memes whenever he likes. In 2023, Anna and On The Media's Micah Loewinger traveled to Montana to talk to Tasha Adams, the ex-wife of Stewart Rhodes, who founded the far-right paramilitary group, the Oath Keepers. Stewart had been charged with seditious conspiracy for his participation in the January 6 Capitol riots, and Tasha was eagerly awaiting sentencing: “I need him to stay locked away so my kids can legally cut contact with him when they're 18.” Tasha described their decades-long marriage, from their courtship in a ballroom dance class in Las Vegas, to abuse and isolation as Stewart became transfixed on politics and apocalyptic ideas. She and her six kids managed to escape in 2018. And shortly after our conversation there was some good news for Tasha: her divorce was finalized, and Stewart got a long sentence – 18 years. Then Trump was re-elected, and on his first day in office he issued nearly 1,500 pardons and commuted the sentences of 14 of his supporters in connection with Jan. 6. Among them was Stewart. This week we're replaying our 2023 conversation with Tasha, as well as a portion of a follow-up conversation we recorded with her right before Trump's inauguration. Joe Biden wanted to show Americans that there was a better path than Trumpism. He worked to build a “foreign policy for the middle class.” He centered industrial policy. He took a more competitive tack with China. He kept America out of wars. The hope was that if Americans saw foreign policy serving their interests, then that would dim the appeal of someone like Donald Trump. Then Trump won again — stronger than ever.Jake Sullivan is Biden's national security adviser and one of the key architects of this foreign policy for the middle class. In this conversation, I ask him to walk me through why he thinks the country is better off today than it was four years ago. We discuss the status of America's relationship with China and the risk of a future war; whether the U.S. should have used its leverage to force Ukraine to the negotiating table; how the enormous arms support of Israel serves U.S. interests; what Trump's re-election says about Bidenism; and more.Mentioned:Brookings speechBook Recommendations:Science, the Endless Frontier by Vannevar BushNexus by Yuval Noah HarariThe Situation Room by George StephanopoulosThoughts? [SEGMENT 1-1] Trump's official acts 1 Donald Trump has already impacted things dramatically, and for the better. The world is taking notice. While Biden continues playing president, President-elect Trump is the de facto president. It warms my heart that he announced that he will pardon all J6 prisoners on Day One. These people have suffered, many for 4 years for ABSOLUTELY NO CRIME. [SEGMENT 1-2] Trump's official acts 2 My producer said I was too tough on you guys last segment. I played him this clip [X] SB – James Carvill What should Trump do Day One? Frankly, I want a Leftist to replace each of them for 4 years to serve as justice. And let's begin with the J6 committee. I hope Trump makes finding out what happened with this committee a Day One act. Do you think the president will publish his Day One acts, or will we have to wait on them as we have so far. There are other people he will pardon, and I will get you that list soon. Like the woman thrown in jail for praying in front of an abortion center! Trump is still building his transition team, and we got him to remove the FL Sheriff who is pro-DEI and arrested a pastor for holding church during Covid. That removal is a result of DIRECT pressure from us. Look at all the Leftists who were so tough when Trump was out of office. They never thought they would have to face him or his policies again, so they issued tough talk. Sissies trying to be real men. [SEGMENT 1-3] Trump's official acts 3 Black people are waking up… [X] SB – Black woman goes off on Chicago mayor I mentioned the Denver mayor recently on the show. Mike Johnston talked tough about illegals. Then Trump won, and appointed Tom Homan as border czar, and Johnston has subsequently changed his tune. The same is true of New York Governor Kathy Hochul. All the sanctuary state and city leaders who have protected illegals will change their tunes soon. All it takes to make bullies of the Left back down is do what you say. The minute President Trump holds anybody accountable for anything, the warning shot will be heard in all institutions of government, and include Federal, state, and local governments. I happily await the arrest of a sanctuary governor or mayor. And I would buy a ticket to see the first arrests of election cheats. What else could we hope to see? Perhaps prosecutions of government agency leaders who lied about Covid, vaccinations, climate change, the 2020 election, J6. Sure Biden will offer pardons to many of them, but whoever is left should pay the price. And for those pardoned, we need massive restrictions on jobs they can have, and of course they should never be able to work in government again. Interestingly, many of these people are quitting their jobs and some of them are lawyering up. They've operated with impunity for decades, and now fear for their political lives. [SEGMENT 1-4] Trump's official acts 4 [X] SB – Chuck Todd blasts Joe and Jill Biden Mixed emotions. Halle Biden transcript. Turned her into a crack addict. Democrats wake up every morning haunted by the same two thoughts: Joe Biden couldn't beat Trump, and neither can Kamala Harris. That's not just a bad dream—it's their grim reality. As America hurtles toward 2024, the Left is realizing that their worst nightmare has materialized. A Leftist Death Spiral Look around, and you'll see the crumbling remnants of Leftist ideology scattered across the battlefield. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs are being dismantled nationwide, corporate America is backtracking on woke policies, and Trump has signaled his intention to restore sanity. Case in point: his declaration to kick unfit transgender individuals out of the military. Cue outrage from the LGBTQ+ Gestapo, but Trump is unapologetic. He's here to prioritize strength, readiness, and common sense. This isn't just Trump returning to form; this is Trump 2.0, a transcendent version of his already remarkable first term. Trump was a STUD during his first term but he has transcended “studness” to a new level. What's bigger than a stud? I honestly don't know. But I know that Trump is already surpassing his first term and he hasn't even started. Trump on the World Stage Remember the G7 summit during Trump's first term? When another world leader tried to step in front of him, Trump moved him aside with casual dominance. It wasn't just a gesture; it was a declaration: Trump was the leader of the free world, and everyone knew it. Contrast that with the Biden administration, which brought us endless apologies, hand-wringing, and foreign policy blunders. Justin Trudeau, Canada's poster child for woke incompetence, once tried to play tough with Trump during their first handshake encounter. How'd that work out for him? Trudeau eventually came crawling back, begging Trump not to tank Canada's economy. Now Canada's economy teeters on the edge of ruin. Trudeau's failed leadership, combined with a staggering trade deficit with the U.S., has left him with zero leverage. And what of Mexico's new president, Claudia Sheinbaum? She's already proving to be a menace to Mexico's economy, but when she tried to go toe-to-toe with Trump, it was a quick and humiliating defeat. If Trump chooses to disclose the details of their negotiations, she could rival Stormy Daniels in public humiliation—except Daniels would look like a high-class call girl in comparison to Sheinbaum. The Deep State Exodus The Biden administration's so-called "tough guys" are abandoning ship faster than rats fleeing a sinking vessel. Mass resignations are sweeping through the DOJ, FBI, and other agencies that targeted Trump and his supporters. Why? Because they know the jig is up. These officials aren't resigning to “spend more time with their families.” They're lawyering up, preparing for the legal reckoning they so richly deserve. This isn't just an exodus; it's a purge. Like the Nazis after World War II, they're running scared, knowing they've lost the moral high ground. The collapse of the police state isn't just a win for Trump; it's a win for America. The denazification of our government is underway, and it's long overdue. Corporate America Retreats from Woke Even corporate America is feeling the heat. Once the champions of woke policies, major companies are now quietly backing away from DEI programs. Why? Because these initiatives have proven to be divisive, ineffective, and financially disastrous. Disney, Bud Light, and Target learned the hard way that pandering to the woke mob comes at a cost. Trump's secret weapon in dismantling this madness? The truth. It's remarkable how far a little honesty can go in an era dominated by lies. Trump's Blueprint for Success Here's what sets Trump apart in his second act: he's already proven he can deliver results.Economy: During his first term, Trump's policies led to record-low unemployment, energy independence, and historic gains for minority communities. Under Biden, we've seen skyrocketing inflation, record debt, and economic uncertainty.Foreign Policy: Trump's peace-through-strength doctrine kept adversaries like Russia and North Korea in check. Biden's weak leadership, meanwhile, has emboldened aggressors, from Putin's invasion of Ukraine to China's increasing belligerence.Border Security: Trump built the wall. Biden opened the gates. The result? A border crisis of epic proportions, with cartels, traffickers, and terrorists exploiting Biden's weakness.Cultural Sanity: Trump's willingness to challenge the woke agenda resonates with everyday Americans. Whether it's restoring the military's focus on readiness or standing up to the Left's gender ideology, Trump offers a return to common sense. The Democrats' Dilemma The Democrats' bench is laughably thin. Biden is too old, too corrupt, and too incompetent to run again. Harris? She's a walking punchline whose approval ratings rival the Hindenburg disaster. That leaves the Left scrambling for alternatives, none of whom can hold a candle to Trump's charisma, accomplishments, or vision. Meanwhile, Trump's momentum is unstoppable. He's not just campaigning; he's leading a movement. The MAGA agenda is back, stronger than ever, and the Left has no answer. The Nightmare Continues For Democrats, the realization is dawning: they can't stop Trump. Their institutions are collapsing, their ideology is unraveling, and their leaders are panicking. Leftism isn't just on life support; it's in the final stages of its demise. Trump's second term will be the ultimate vindication for his supporters and the final nail in the coffin for the woke agenda. The question isn't whether Trump will win—it's how big the margin will be. And for the Democrats, the nightmare is only just beginning.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-kevin-jackson-show--2896352/support.

Ever the showman, Donald Trump has managed " The Art of the Troll" to epic proportions in his mocking of Kamala Harris. Understand that Kamala Harris has positioned herself as a round the way girl. By now we all know that she "grew up in a middle-class family raised by her mother". And adding to the story of Harris' upbringing is the idea that she's so normal she worked at a McDonald's for a bit. While there doesn't seem to be much evidence of this, Team Harris sticks to the story in their attempt to make her more relatable to Average Joe America. Not that the story has accomplished this, but Team Trump has apparently decided to one-up the narrative. Is the media finally figuring out how to cover Donald Trump's mental unfitness for the presidency? First, CNN's Jake Tapper dressed down a Trump surrogate for whitewashing Trump's threat to unleash the military on his enemies. Then Trump held a strange town hall at which he abruptly stopped answering questions, which generated aggressive media coverage. And Kamala Harris has directly engaged on Trump's mental state in a new way, drawing media attention to it. We talked to Brian Beutler, who often criticizes the media on his Off Message Substack, about the increasing signs that the press is treating Trump's mental decline as a big story. [SEGMENT 1-1] Conversion of Leftists 1 Lots to discuss… Travel observations [X] SB – Trump commercial featuring Harris on Bidenflation Posted on X. The funny thing is, for 55 years I always thought I was a liberal. I always loved and got along with everybody. I never judged anybody. I never fought with anybody. I obeyed the laws and paid my taxes. I wanted everything to be safe and happy. Then TRUMP came along and the world went haywire. So now if I want to be a liberal, I have to: Hate white people Hate Jewish people Hate Christians. Hate the unborn. Fear the weather. Fear the flu. Support child sex changes. Want criminals to go free. Not want a border. Love WAR. Love illegal immigration. And want every country to get more money and attention than my own. This is how I became a Conservative. Not because I love the Republicans. But because I CAN'T LOVE what the democrats want to do to this country. I LOVE MY COUNTRY! IM VOTING FOR DONALD TRUMP![SEGMENT 1-2] Conversion of Leftists 2 It's easy to convert Leftists these days. No matter how the Left hype Harris, Harris-Walz, the reality of Biden-Harris hits them in the face. Not just Bidenflation, but other things. Before we get to some of that, how about that upcoming debate? [X] SB – Byron Donalds on the debate Keep the same rules Open mic Interruptions [X] SB – Kamala Harris asked about Trump rolling back DEI [SEGMENT 1-3] Revelations 1 What did I tell you about revelations? Peddled by Rudy Giuliani Feeding Russian misinformation to Trump and NY Post History will expose you all as useful idiots for the Russians Running cover for Russian Facebook admits it bowed to pressure under the Biden administration… They suppressed information on Hunter's laptop. [SEGMENT 1-4] Revelations 2 [X] SB – Trump comments on suckers and losers [X] SB – John Kirby makes excuses for Biden on anniversary of Afghanistan Election fraud. Pure and simple. Donald Trump keeps throwing his own advisers under the bus. The latest example: The battle between the campaigns over the upcoming debate. First Trump's campaign insisted mics must be muted for the candidate who isn't speaking. Then Trump himself said he's just fine with unmuted mics throughout. We think this gets at a larger dynamic: With Trump still struggling with Kamala Harris's surge, Trump clearly doubts that his own advisers have any idea how to fight back. We talked to veteran Democratic strategist James Carville, who explained how all signs indicate Trump thinks he's in trouble—and what could still go wrong for Harris. New reports are emerging about Donald Trump's tightening grip on the GOP, and the upshot is this: It's crazier and more dangerous than you thought. First we learned that Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson privately schemed over how to sabotage ongoing prosecutions of Trump. Then Trump met with Republicans and reportedly unleashed numerous strange rants, calling the Justice Department “dirty no good bastards” and spinning out a wild tale about Nancy Pelosi's daughter. We talked with A.B. Stoddard, a columnist at The Bulwark and shrewd observer of GOP politics, and she trenchantly explained why this moment is very much not a drill. Learn more about your ad choices. [SEGMENT 2-1] Trump's revenge plan 1 George Herbert said, "Living well is the best revenge", and boy has Trump live well. He's a triple-threat: success in business, TV, and politics. Very few people have this level of success in any career versus three careers. And now Trump is going for the "re-peat". Democrats are doing all they can to stop him. But you can't stop a moving train, especially the "Trump train". Ask by Laura Ingraham about the revenge question that Democrats seem so worried about. And Trump surprised everyone. "My revenge will be success." https://twitter.com/CollinRugg/status/1760111332362424564 What a comment. Very presidential. Those may be some of the most scary words the Democrats have heard, given all their fearmongering about a second Trump term. Also, Democrats hate success. Ironically, success is the reason Democrats targeted Trump in the coup of 2020 in the first place. Trump was too successful. Imagine going years with neither party having success, and then Democrats get their perfect candidate: Baby Black Jesus. And he blows it. [SEGMENT 2-2] Trump's revenge plan 2 Barack Obama accomplished nothing meaningful, and he divided the country in race, gender, sexuality, and religion. No need to recount all the economy-killing things the warmongering Nobel Peace Prize winning loser did. But his damage was plentiful. Then Trump follows him. The man who Obama dared to save Carrier. Trump obliged, making it look so easy it caused a panic in Democrat circles. Trump was winning on Day One. Democrats invest in failure. Because that's where the money is. Look at their leader. Biden is and has always been a dismal failure. But he's a cash dispensing machine. The bigger the failure, the more the "investment". Democrats have ruined the education system, nearly bankrupted the welfare and healthcare systems. They reward criminals by defunding the police. And there is much more fiendish activities by Democrats that prove they hate success. Government hadn't experienced success until Trump got elected. [caption id="attachment_79910" align="alignnone" width="929 Partial transcript: “You say ‘how do you get together?' We will get together through success,” Trump responded. “When this country—the country was at a level that we never—we had the best employment numbers in history. Everything was good. And this country was coming together. Then we got hit with Covid. But this country came together. “I don't care about the revenge thing,” Trump added. “I know they usually use the word revenge. Will there be revenge? My revenge will be success.” Democrats really opened Pandora's box. The public recognizes the witch hunt of Trump. And his $355 million civil fraud judgment only reinvigorated his resolve to drain the swamp. Now Trump pledges to take his campaign message straight to New York City. "I'm gonna see about Madison Square Garden and we're gonna go to the South Bronx and we're gonna go to Queens and other areas," he said. "If you look at what's happened in New York, I'm not even blaming the mayor. I think the mayor has sort of been told to take a backseat a little bit because they came after him violently." "My revenge will be success." "I'm gonna see about Madison Square Garden and we're gonna go to the South Bronx and we're gonna go to Queens and other areas." "If you look at what's happened in New York, I'm not even blaming the mayor. I think the mayor has sort of been told to take a backseat a little bit because they came after him violently." New Yorkers will show the world that New York City is Trump country. [SEGMENT 2-3] Government playing god… If you follow any religion, then you've heard of Judgment Day. That's the day you meet God and He determines what you did with your life. Supposedly there is a review of everything you did on Earth, and your fate is determined by all that. When I was young, I pictured books and perhaps videos of God watching all my sins. The thought of that was daunting. God know all and sees all. Well the new earthly god is the NSA. It knows all and sees all. Imagine the volumes of data the NSA can have on a person. If you don't believe me, check out the history Facebook keeps on you. It knows where you've been since you downloaded the app. And it has logged not some, but all of your searches, articles you've read, etc. Using sophisticated AI models, FB could rebuild you. All that data is with the NSA, who could make or break you. Unlike God who is content to look at your real accomplishments, He won't forsake you and make you out to be a villain if you're not one. But the government is not benevolent. Quite the contrary… [SEGMENT 2-4] Government playing god 2 - Jim Biden testimony The Biden crime family is being questioned one by one over the next few weeks. And the questioning began with Joe Biden's younger brother. Like the other Bidens, Jim Biden has no actual skillset. So he makes a living marketing his big brother. The entire family bet on Joe, like he's the blue-chip quarterback everybody hoped would go pro. Lucky for Joe Biden, elitists picked him to replace Trump in the coup, and the Biden family hopes were realized. Jim Biden's grift is well-documented. He promised a rural hospital group money from a foreign source, and he used his brother's name to get a cushy deal. Jim sent his big brother Joe, aka "the big guy" his cut, and now he's answering tough questions about the deal. Understand that the Biden crime family members know rule number one: protect Joe Biden. So initially Jim Biden claimed that he was not part of a deal involving Hunter Biden and his other business partners. However, according to one source, James Biden altered his story during a closed-door interview with lawmakers. All it took to get him to recant was evidence. Investigators showed Jim Biden an agreement that featured his signature alongside those of Hunter Biden and his business partners. Biden then pulled a "Joe Biden" and told legislators that he did not remember signing the agreement. Who can blame him, given all those LLCs the Biden crime family set up. So what deal did Jim Biden selectively forget? The biggest deal of the Biden family, a proposed joint venture involving an entity known as SinoHawk and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)-tied CEFC China Energy Limited energy firm. This deal brought the Biden family millions, and I'm certain the money trail will validate this. The deal structured fifty percent ownership of SinoHawk by Hudson West IV — an entity nominally managed by CEFC “emissary” and Joe Biden “office mate” Gongwen Dong, and fifty percent to be owned by Oneida Holdings LLC, an entity composed of LLCs controlled by Hunter Biden, James Biden, Rob Walker, James Gilliar and Tony Bobulinski, according to Bobulinski's Feb. 13 testimony to congressional investigators and documents obtained by the Senate Judiciary Committee. Per Yahoo News, the Biden family was paid millions: CEFC China Energy, which has close ties to the Chinese Communist Party and People's Liberation Army, paid entities controlled by the then-cash-strapped Hunter Biden or his uncle James Biden $4.8 million over the course of 14 months beginning in 2017, according to The Washington Post. But the deal was meant to be much larger than the $4,8 million received. And the service to be provided by the Bidens? Introductions. Hunter Biden entered into a consulting contract with China's largest private energy company that initially earned him $10 million a year “for introductions alone,” according to leaked emails. In an email chain from Aug. 2, 2017, Biden discussed a deal with the former chairman of CEFC China Energy, Ye Jianming, saying Ye agreed to change the terms of Biden's three-year consulting contract with CEFC, which initially promised Biden $10 million per-year “for introductions alone,” to make it “much more lasting and more lucrative,” the New York Post reported, although the authenticity of the Biden emails has not been independently confirmed. The new deal included a 50 percent equity stake in a holding company created by Ye rather than the $10 million in annual cash that had been previously negotiated. "For introductions alone". I've never shopped for "introductions", but apparently they are more expensive than Lamborghinis. How could Jim Biden possibly forget to have signed a deal like this? What say the people? The results of a YouGov poll, were released on Wednesday. They showed that an astonishing 53 percent of registered voters believe that Joe Biden “personally profited” from his son's overseas business adventures. Perhaps the most telling statistic in this poll is that roughly 44 percent of Democrats believe Joe Biden profited. And by profited, they mean committed crimes by accepting money from America's enemy.

EPISODE 154: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:41) SPECIAL COMMENT: DeSantis dismissed Ukraine as not being one of our "vital national interests" and exactly six hours later a Russian fighter jet was knocking one of our intelligence drones out of international air space 75 miles off the Ukrainian coach. DeFascist looks like an idiot today, especially since Republican grown-ups pounded the crap out of him all day, and even more so because as a Congressman, the Rube-In-High-Heels demanded offensive and defensive weapons be sent TO Ukraine. It's not just the standard story of a local yokel stepping onto the Republican national stage and promptly plummeting into the orchestra bit. DeSantis's flip-flop underscores the Republicans' century-long inability to make up its mind about any of the various incarnations of Russia. The America First DeSantii of 1939 wanted to ignore Russia even after its pact with Hitler. The post-war Republicans turned the actual Soviet threat into spies inside every home fallout shelter. Then Nixon went for detente. Then Reagan joked about beginning the bombing of Russia in five minutes. Then Reagan both destroyed the Soviet Union and 'brought peace.' Then Trump sold the GOP to Putin. Now DeSantis doesn't know which side of which is the Wokey-Fenokee Swamp. Meanwhile after a day of utter silence, Russia's second-favorite American Tucker Carlson actually mentioned Jacob Chansley, the Q Shaman. One mention. Literally. No explanation what happened to his wall-to-wall-coverage of the worst attack on American freedom unwoke non-CRT conspiracy. And coincidence or maybe more: heard anything from ANY Republican besides Gosar about it? Or about this "visit" to the January 6 defendants inside the DC Jail? They've gone silent too. But a DC judge hasn't: he says not only aren't the J6'ers NOT being mistreated, all their complaints have been addressed by the jailers AND they all have access to tablets to review...guess what...January 6th video for their defense. Something's up and it isn't Fox's ratings. B-Block (16:19) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Biden again notes that caving to Freedom Caucus demands to freeze spending at 2022 levels as their price to vote for a debt ceiling hike means...De-funding the police. Ohhhhhh are the Republicans pissed. Trump's indictment is days away and always will be. And he championed Veterinary Ivermectin for 11 years. Right up to the day it killed him. (20:40) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Brian Kilmeade calls Trump "the most disciplined I've ever seen him" because he hasn't dined with any white supremacists lately. The NHL televises a New York Rangers game live in cartoon without calling them the New York POWER Rangers. And a Minnesota state senator says there's no need for free school breakfasts or lunches because HE'S never met a hungry person. C-Block (26:30) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Hopper, in Missouri (27:15) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Dan Abrams of "News Nation" humiliated himself on his show on the Nick-At-Nite of TV News networks. Which reminded me of the day in 2006 the geniuses at NBC decided to make him General Manager of MSNBC. He was so bad so fast that ONE WEEK LATER they took all the power away from him. It's a long laugh.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
