Hardy oversees the Steel's hockey operations department including scouting and player development, coaching and player development.The Madison, Conn., native joined the Steel from the Boston Bruins (NHL) where he spent two seasons scouting amateur prospects across North America. Hardy is very selective in the players he adds to the team. He has certain characteristics he values more than others. “We want smart, competitive kids that love hockey and want to be coached. We feel like if we can check those four boxes, we can pretty much figure out the rest with them, if they have that foundation.”

Ryan Hardy is the Chef & CEO of Delicious Hospitality Group. The group that brought you New York’s Charlie Bird, Pasquale Jones, Ada's Place, Easy Victor Café, & my former stomping grounds Legacy Records Restaurant. Fresh out of college, the Kentucky bred chef began his career at Robert De Niro's San Francisco restaurant, Rubicon. At 25 he took on the Rustique Bistro in Aspen that made Esquire's 'Best New Restaurant' list. Progressed to working with Mark Miller at the Coyote Cafe in Santa Fe' before taking on the Harbor View Hotel on Martha's Vineyard in MA, where he won 'Best new chef in New England.' He then returned to Aspen to run culinary operations for the famed Little Nell. It was there that he decided to take his passion for Slow Food to the next level- he went on to own and operate a 30-acre organic farm. It was not long until he was nominated for a James Beard award, not once, but four times. In 2013 he took his talents to NYC, which led to the creation of Charlie Bird, and ultimately, Delicious Hospitality Group. This episode means a lot to us, being that this is the reason why we decided to keep this episode as raw as possible. TJHP EP031 -  This weeks episode of The Junior Hockey Podcast, TDC and Gresko talk with the General Manager of the Chicago Steel in the United States Hockey League (USHL), Ryan Hardy. We had a great discussion with Ryan about not only his successful career, but just how he got there having only played High School Hockey. He has a great resume ranging from Coaching NCAA College Hockey, working with the USA National Team Development Program (USANTDP) to ultimately becoming a General Manager for a Tier 1 USHL Organization. Other than Ryan's personal career, we talked about the current junior hockey landscape and what he believes would help create a more competitive atmosphere in junior hockey. We asked Ryan a ton of questions about the USHL and the amount of effort that goes into developing these players to ultimately play NCAA D1 Hockey and make it to the NHL level. The USHL is known for its education of players in the classroom so we dove into the topic of schooling for the players and how the process works to ensure they are still achieving good grades. Ryan Hardy offers a ton of great knowledge on the game of hockey and more specifically what it takes to make it to the highest level. His resume speaks for itself and this is a great episode for any current player, parent, or coach that is interested in getting some information from one of the great minds in hockey.
