We're at the beginning of the Year 2000 in WCW and things are getting biblically bad in the land where the big boys play. Duke and Rogue are back to take you through the second show of the new millennium as the quality of the product continues to freefall at breakneck speeds. The show is lackluster from top to bottom as a locked door plays a leading role in the sad tale that is SuperBrawl 2000. The card is headlined by a match that had no business being as bad as it was, as The Millennium Man, The Bad Guy, and The Chosen One compete for the big gold belt in one of many sloppy melees on the night.  Elsewhere, in what we have to believe is a first of its kind, we get two terrible wrestlers competing in a leather jacket on a pole match that ends up looking like a dark crime scene.  For weeks, "The Cat" Ernest Miller has been promising to produce his close personal friend, The Godfather of Soul James Brown, live on WCW. Will The Cat bring the goods? We tune in to find out in a segment that is longer than the longest match on the card.  We get a Sicilian Stretcher Match and a guy named TAFKAPI gets a taste of some gold. The Hulkster makes his Pay Per View return donning the red and yellow with a broken arm, courtesy of The Total Package Lex Luger. "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair squares off with Terry Funk in a deathmatch, while Flair's son tarnishes the family legacy in tag competition.  With the exception of good wrestling, this one's got it all folks.

There's nothing a big stadium concert crowd loves more than hearing the name of their city shouted by their favorite rock star. In the 80's, a few performers figured out how to work the names of many U.S. cities into hit songs, in what can only be described as pandering to audiences hungry for recognition of their American hometowns. In 1984, Huey Lewis and the News had a hit with "Heart of Rock & Roll," which worked 15 cities into a top-10 hit. In 1985, the Godfather of Soul James Brown made it to number four-- and scored a Grammy-- with  "Living in America," squeezing in nine mentions. The song is also well remembered for being a breakout hit from the movie "Rocky IV." We break down both songs with our 21st-century lens. ***AND***Visit our website at www.sickburnspod.com to leave a comment or a voicemail!Instagram @Sick_Burns_PodTwitter @Sick80sFacebook https://www.facebook.com/SickBurnsPodcastEmail us at Burningthe80s@gmail.comLike the show? On this edition of Parallax Views, can music change the world? Joining us to tackle that question as well as outline the rich history of protest music is Brad Schreiber, author of Music is Power: Popular Songs, Social Justice, and the Will to Change. As Schreiber shows in the fascinating new book, available now from Rutgers University Press, protest music, or as he prefers to call it "socially conscious music", goes far beyond the antiwar anthems and can even be traced back to the early 20th century with class conscious musicians like Joe Hill, a labor activist associated with the IWW (Industrial Workers of the World). In this conversation we discuss artist ranging from Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger to artist you may not have ever considered as political before like bubble pop icon Lesley Gore and the founding fathers of heavy metal Black Sabbath. We also discuss such musicians as the obscure but talented satirist Tom Lehrer, counterculture legend Frank Zappa, "The Godfather of Soul" James Brown, R&B pioneer Curtis Mayfield, and the punk rock of the Sex Pistols as well as specific songs like Janis Ian's "Society's Children" and Peter Gabriel's "Biko". We even talk a little bit about Pink Floyd and their politically outspoken co-founder Roger Waters. All that and more on this edition of Parallax Views. SUPPORT PARALLAX VIEWSON PATREON!

Welcome to the 2015 Christmas episode of "The Tony Perkins Show Featuring Gary Stein"!  Our SPECIAL GUEST for this episode is the one, the only....SANTA CLAUS!!! Yes, Santa takes time out of his busy schedule to talk about the true meaning of Christmas. Now, we have to warn you: Tony and Gary seem to have gotten Santa at a fairly bad time, after Santa seemingly had a rough night.  So he's not exactly in a JOLLY mood. But we're airing the interview anyway. JUST MAKE SURE NO CHILDREN HEAR IT!!!   Also:  Tony, Gary and Rob exchange gifts; Gary talks about the time he met "Godfather of Soul" James Brown; and the guys play a game of "Jeopardy", but "Alex Trebek" is in just about the worst mood ever!     What's WRONG with these people?! Merry Christmas!

The Sixties are about to begin and we’re feeling the change of the guard. We briefly recap the first Golden Age of Rock N Roll: 1956 to 1959. A lot happened, and fast. Too fast to last. We skid perilously into a new decade. As we open the sixties, all the big players are offstage, and a lot of folks are saying Rock N Roll is dead. We open in a police station in St. Louis, and Chuck Berry is in big trouble with the law. We detail Chuck’s legal fight to its conclusion in early ’63. We also catch up with the disc jockey Alan Freed, who is going through some legal problems of his own—legal problems that are part of a larger story. We take a look at the state of mainstream popular music in 1960. It’s grim. But the R&B charts are looking good, lots of great songs and artists. Black America is reasserting itself musically. We will get to that…but first, Rock N Roll is about to become BIG Business. So we unpack that a little bit, and devote a big part of the show to an examination of the record industry. They were slow to catch on, but the corporate labels—The Big Six—are now in the business of Rock N Roll. We use humor to make our point, but we also have some caustic, tough things to say about the industry. Ever seen these acronyms: ASCAP and BMI? And what wondered what the heck they mean? We answer that question, and explain why it’s important. We tell a tale of two Disc Jockeys: Alan Freed and Dick Clark. That tale is a metaphor for what happens in the music business from 1960 on. For the last act, we go back to discussing great music and great musicians and we meet the Godfather of Soul: James Brown. It’s a true rags-to-riches story. Finally, we grab a cab in front of the Apollo Theater, and head down to Greenwich Village. There we will briefly meet an up-and-coming folksinger, and set the stage for Episode Five. Tony Wilson was named "The Young James Brown" and personally Endorsed by The Godfather of Soul himself, also by Bassist Bootsy Collins, Danny Ray The Capeman, Mrs. Tomirae Brown and Mr. Charles Bobbit ; it doesn't get any better than that! Tony is backed by the Original Musicians that toured with James Brown and has been electrifying audiences with his own personal style for many years around the world including The Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, Ireland, Germany, London, the UK,  Switzerland, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, the West Indies, Paris France, Belgium and the United States.Tony has performed in some of the best Festivals and Venues in the world - The North Sea Jazz Festival Amsterdam/Rotterdam, The Cactus Festival Belgium, The Fuji Rock Festival in Japan, The O2 Wireless Hyde Park London and countless other Events and Venues Worldwide. Mr. James Brown hand picked Tony Wilson to portray him in two IMDB shortfilm movies which include Funk Blast 1999 produced by Paul Allen from Microsoft and BMW Films Beat the Devil 2004 directed by Tony Scott and Ridley Scott  Tony Wilson is the only Entertainer/Musician that The Godfather of Soul James Brown endorsed and approved of in writing : " To Tony Wilson # 2, Keep on being me" - James Brown. JB called Tony personally to back him up at The Soul of America Festival in his hometown for what would turn out to be The Godfather's final concert in Augusta Geogia.  Fact: Did you know that James Brown single handedly wrote more songs than his mentors Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Strauss. The great Irving Berlin wrote 1.001 tunes and James Brown wrote 5,500 songs. What is the point? The point is that James Brown never wrote a song that he couldn't sing to his mother and he truly was a role model in the music industry and for all that loved him. Tony Wilson, the Young James Brown is keeping the The Godfather of Soul's visual legacy alive and on the one!

Michael’s former manager most likely won’t be getting commissions from the Estate.
