DeAnn Gatto worked as a bouncer at the Seahorse, a center of queer culture in South Bend for decades. It was there that she befriended some legendary male impersonation performers. They encouraged DeAnn, teaching her the art and skill of impersonation and the differences between that and drag performance. One day, DeAnn was pushed to enter the Mr. South Bend competition, a title that showed to her, and to everyone, that she could be the reigning champion of male impersonators. In this episode of “South Bend's Own Words,” DeAnn shares her experiences bouncing at the Seahorse and befriending its owner, Gloria Frankel. Many experiences were great. Some were pretty disgusting. Despite the Seahorse's place in local LGBTQ+ history, it was a bar, after all. But DeAnn's years in this storied place in South Bend's queer history were special to her, to her fellow male impersonators, and to those who saw her pour countless hours (and wardrobe dollars) into her performances. This episode was produced by Caleb Matz from the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts at IU South Bend, and by George Garner from the Civil Rights Heritage Center. In this gripping episode, Asymmetric MIA Accounting Group Chief of Investigative Research John Bear reveals one of the most haunting “full circle” stories in American history. On November 27, 1745, during King George's War, a French and Native force raided Old Saratoga, New York. Young Jacob Fort watched his father Abraham “Abram” Fort and uncle Capt. Johannes Fort taken prisoner, marched north through brutal winter conditions, and ultimately die in a Quebec military prison. Their bodies were never returned—left in unmarked graves near the Hôpital-Général cemetery. Two hundred and eighty-one years later, in 1942, Brigadier General Guy O. Fort—direct descendant of that same paternal line—faced an eerily parallel fate on the opposite side of the world. A career soldier who grew up near Saratoga County and almost certainly knew the ancestral stories of capture and loss, General Fort commanded the 81st Philippine Infantry Division on Mindanao. After surrendering under protest, he was interned at Camp Keithley. When ordered to betray the Moro people he had served for four decades, he refused and was executed by firing squad. His remains were buried in an isolated grave, never recovered.Through forensic genetic genealogy, exhaustive paper trails, and General Fort's own diaries, the unbreakable connection between the 1745 Saratoga captives and the WWII general is now confirmed. History repeated itself in the most profound way within a single family. As AMAG prepares its June 2026 humanitarian recovery mission at historic Camp Keithley, this episode explores resilience, sacrifice, and the long arc of remembrance.Support the MissionAMAG's June 2026 recovery effort at Camp Keithley is entirely self-funded. Born in Arkansas, Dorothy Smith and her family fled the state in 1937 due to a violent encounter with white men. They found refuge in South Bend. Dorothy fondly remembers her time at Hering House, a community center, and her involvement with the Phyllis Wheatley Girl Reserves. She was also the first African American person hired at Wells Electronics company. Despite her hard work, she faced intense harassment including enduring racial slurs and sabotaged workspaces. Dorothy persevered, becoming an expert at her job and holding her position for thirty years. What if the challenges we're facing in animal welfare today aren't new at all?In this episode of Keep it Humane, we sit down with Audrey Lodato—Senior Director of Regional Programs at Best Friends Animal Society and creator of the animal welfare history blog Barking at the Knot—to uncover how the past continues to shape the present. From the early 1800s “War Against Dogs” to the fear-driven policies surrounding rabies and hydrophobia, Audrey walks us through how societal pressures, public health concerns, and even misinformation helped build the foundation of modern animal control. We explore how practices like intake-driven systems and strict impound policies didn't just appear—they evolved from a very different time. But this isn't just a history lesson. We connect those origins to today's biggest challenges: rising intake, public accountability, humane education gaps, and the ongoing push for transparency in shelter operations. The conversation digs into what needs to change—and what we may still be getting wrong. We also look ahead, exploring how technology and AI could reshape sheltering by improving decision-making, reducing length of stay, and helping more animals find positive outcomes.Plus, a quick look at what's coming next with Best Friends' national conference in Utah—and a live AI demo that might just change how you think about shelter operations. If you've ever wondered why we do things the way we do in animal welfare… this episode connects the dots.
Send us Fan Mail Due to king Saul's disobedience in not wiping out Amalec and the amalekites completely from the face of the earth (1 Samuel 15), Israel will have to face their nemesis again in the days of Esther and Mordecai. God was displeased for what the amalekites did to Israel in a time of transition and relocation after being enslaved by the egipcians for more than 400 years. In Exodus and Deuteronomy, God declared that the day of the amalekites destruction was inevitable. Lesson to be learned is the following: Obeying God partially will affect and hinder our path towards the future. That is why is it important to obey God to the fullest so that we don't have to deal with unsettle accounts in the future. May this biblical history sermon be a blessings to you all. Support the show

The Matildas have fallen to Japan 1-0 in the final of the Women’s Asian Cup, remarkably for a third time. Former Socceroos captain Craig Foster returns to assess the success of the tournament - which broke all manner of records - and reckon with the legacy of a group that have achieved greatly, but still lack a crowning glory.Furthermore, with the Brazil 2027 Women’s World Cup coming into focus, attention turns to the direction of Joe Montemurro’s ageing squad. The Athletic’s Chelsea reporter Cerys Jones returns amid reports that Sam Kerr could be on the way out of the club where she’s won eleven titles. Also on the agenda: Senegal sensationally stripped of their AFCON title, Manchester City lift another League Cup, and the Socceroos’ away kit polarises.Follow us on X: https://twitter.com/Box2BoxNTSLike us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100028871306243 Enjoy our written content: https://www.box2boxnts.com.au/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode, Patrick Teahan, MSW, explores a difficult and personal topic: how abusive family dynamics can scale into larger systems, and what happens when legal authority functions like an abusive parent. He introduces a framework he calls the Abusive Parent State, using trauma pattern recognition to connect family systems language to collective trauma.Rather than staying inside the usual home-based roles, Patrick widens the lens to examine how gaslighting, enforcer dynamics, and discard phases can appear at a societal level. The episode begins with a family story from County Kerry, Ireland in 1920, when a home invasion by the Black and Tans changed his family's lineage and left a long nervous system legacy. From there, he draws parallels to historical and present-day examples, including Hitler's SA and a current lens on ICE, to illustrate how state-sponsored fear can imprint across generations.Listeners will learn:How legal abuse can replicate the same power dynamics as an abusive householdThe clinical blueprint of state-sponsored terror and how it targets home-based safetyThe golden child to scapegoat pipeline and why enforcers are often eventually betrayedHow home invasions and forced instability create long-term hypervigilance in familiesWhy trauma is a time traveler and how it shapes parenting and attachment across generationsHow to maintain humanity and groundedness when the “parent state” becomes the abuserPatrick also discusses recovery tools for holding reality clearly, staying regulated, and resisting the pull to normalize abusive dynamics, whether they come from family or from systems. If you feel activated by the current climate, carry inherited fear, or recognize familiar abuse patterns playing out on a larger scale, this episode offers language, validation, and a way to think about collective trauma without losing sight of healing. Keywords: collective trauma, intergenerational trauma, childhood trauma, state violence, hypervigilance, gaslighting, family systems, abusive parent dynamics, enforcer dynamics, scapegoating, trauma patterns, trauma recoveryJoin the Monthly Healing Community Membership

We have all heard the adage that history repeats itself. It's usually used as a warning to take heed of the things that are going wrong so that they do not happen again. But from the standpoint of the law of attraction, what we focus on grows, and it's not so much that history repeats, but that we are continually re-creating it based on our interpretations of the past and what we have been conditioned to expect in the future. In this episode, we explore these seemingly repeating patterns in our lives and in the collective, and how we can learn to shift our focus and responses to create a better future moving forward. This is a conversation about awareness, intuition, and learning to respond from love rather than fear, because the future isn't fixed and every moment gives us a chance to choose differently. Doris Grady Howell grew up on the east side of South Bend, Indiana, in the shadow of the University of Notre Dame. As a sixteen-year-old, Doris's life took a significant turn when she joined Uncle Bill's All Girls Softball league. For the next twelve years, Doris and her teammates toured the Midwest—fierce competitors on the field while making history off it, including meeting and playing on the same diamond as legendary baseball player Satchel Paige. The team brought together young African American girls and women from different parts of the city who, because of geographic and intra-cultural differences, might not otherwise have known each other. They faced racial discrimination off the field as well, traveling the Midwest at a time of overt racial segregation. Despite this, the bonds they built as players continued onwards long after their moments on the field. Today, the University of Notre Dame's Foundry Field project seeks to resurrect a new community baseball diamond as well as histories of local teams. They learned about Ms. Howell's story and, at age 100, gave her a phone call to learn about her incredible experience as an under-sung local legend. What happens when law enforcement is told to stand down—and activists step in instead? In this explosive discussion, Lee and Teran break down claims surrounding Minneapolis leadership, ICE operations, withheld police response, and the growing concern over coordinated protest tactics. From blocked streets and leaked law enforcement messages to historical parallels with past riots, the conversation asks a critical question: Is this deliberate lawlessness—and how should the federal government respond?
Grand Theft Auto was delayed again, and to be honest, we weren't necessarily surprised. What was interesting was the rumors of why it was delayed. Some sources claim that the game is complete, but Rockstar wants to ensure that everything functions as intended. Other news sources claim that union-busting could be the cause of the delay.
Requital, 3min,. UK Directed by Ande Case A short Animation of how history repeats itself. Frustratingly. Get to know the filmmaker: What motivated you to make this film? The original idea was from my partner who talked about history repeating itself. We despise inequality, that people so wealthy they will never want for anything still end up being so cruel and disgusting. The worst of us. They have the ability to end hunger, disease, homelessness yet they always end up being fascists who only want to visit cruelty upon others. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film? About 6 months from script to final version as Lucy, the animator, was very kindly developing this film in between all the other work she had on and, due to budget, we had to rethink some scenes and visuals. How would you describe your film in two words!? History Repeats. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film? Finance, it's always finance. As a student athlete in Central High School, Tom Singer saw how his African American teammates had very different experiences than he did. This observation fueled his work as an ally in the 1960s civil rights movement. Tom leveraged his law degree to challenge discrimination, filing a case against a local gym that charged African Americans more for memberships, challenged discriminatory treatment against incarcerated Muslims, and many other actions that pushed for real, meaningful change. As Tom looked back on the changes from the 1960s into the 21st century, he saw progress. He also saw a need for more. Today I'm joined by CJ Killmer, host of the Dangerous History Podcast, for a hard look at where America might be headed as tensions and political violence keep rising. A lot of people compare our current divide to the Civil War, but CJ makes a strong case that's the wrong model. Instead, he points to the Troubles in Northern Ireland, a messy, decades-long conflict that mixed politics, religion, and insurgency in ways that feel a lot closer to what a modern breakdown could look like. CJ knows this history inside and out. He studied the British Empire and Irish history … Continue reading →

In part one, Peter Kuznick warns that Trump 2.0 is more dangerous than the original. The generals and advisors who once called him a "moron" are gone — replaced by sycophants in what Kuznick calls a “kakistocracy,” government by the worst people. From threatening to seize Panama, Greenland, and Canada to leading the most corrupt administration in U.S. history, Trump now faces little resistance from Congress, courts, or his own party. Kuznick and Barry Stevens explore how the takeover of cultural institutions mirrors past fascist movements — and how America's lack of historical memory leaves it vulnerable to repeating old disasters. The most urgent threat: Trump's unpredictable stance on Ukraine could trigger the war he claims to oppose.

The advantage of being an old man is that you can remember the past. This gives you a different perspective on current events. But if that old man is foolish enough to share his thoughts, the average person will smile tolerantly and pat him on his head and tell him that he is just “a lovable old dinosaur who is out-of-touch and living in the past.”Screw it. I'm going to go ahead say what I'm thinking.A few years ago, Big Data was going to change the world. Big Data came and went. Then we got excited about ideas that were “disruptive.” Slash-and-burn disruption by a bunch of young pirates was going to change everything. The Blockchain was going to change everything. You couldn't go anywhere without someone blathering about Crypto and NFT's.Now AI is going change everything. And it definitely will, for awhile.Technology saves money by reducing labor costs, which is just a fancy way of saying that technology allows you to replace people with machines. Unemployment will increase, and Trump will blame Obama. And so it goes.I had an appointment in 1977 to meet with a loan officer at First National Bank in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, to borrow $1,000.The greeter at the bank sat me in a chair in the waiting room. I was 19 years old.Smart phones did not exist. My only option was to paw through the pile of old magazines on the coffee table in front of me. Can you believe that every one of those magazines was about banking? The banker puts his banking magazines on the coffee table in his lobby when he is finished reading them. And the dentist puts his dental magazines on the coffee table in his lobby. This is how the Business Titans of Smallville keep their costs under control. And they do it for our convenience.I began reading a magazine about banking and it catapulted my brain into a tumbling somersault from which I have never recovered. The feature article was about ATM's, but it didn't call them ATM's. It referred to them as automated teller machines.“The modern bank executive can now reduce his payroll significantly because these new automated teller machines work without pay 24 hours a day, and they never make mistakes.”My eyes were jacked open so wide that I was unable to blink.ATM's were not invented for our convenience! They were invented so that banks could fire 60% of their bank tellers!“These new tellers require no health insurance, no air-conditioned offices, no telephones, no sick days, and they take no vacations. Your customers will thank you for giving them the ability to make deposits and withdrawals 24 hours a day from a variety of convenient locations.”The man I saw in my mind was the banker in the old Monopoly game by Parker Brothers. The way to win the game of Monopoly is to gobble up all the things that people cannot avoid, then take everything they own when an unlucky roll of the dice puts them at your mercy. It's perfectly legal.I played Monopoly when I was young, but I don't play it anymore.Parker Brothers began selling Monopoly in 1935. But that game's origins trace back to an earlier version called “The Landlord's Game” created by Elizabeth Magie. She crafted her game back in 1904, when Teddy Roosevelt was making his mark on history by curbing the excesses of the richest and most powerful men in America.Google, Apple and Meta still play Monopoly. As do the insurance companies, the oil companies, the pharmaceutical companies and the medical corporations that control virtually all the doctors. But the version of Monopoly they play isn't sold by Parker Brothers. To win, all you have to do is gobble up the things that people cannot avoid, then take everything they own when an unlucky roll of the dice puts them at your mercy. “Trade, it went from the West to the East, and it's never coming back, the gold that's there,” says Gianni Kovacevic, author and energy commentator. In today's interview with Daniela Cambone, Kovacevic argues that the global economic center of gravity has permanently shifted. He explains how China, through decades of strategic investment and industrial planning, now dominates critical supply chains, from rare earths to battery production, despite holding just 7% of the raw materials. “They did the hard work. We didn't,” he says. With the U.S. focused on short-term political cycles and nostalgic reshoring efforts, Kovacevic warns that nations like China and Russia are stockpiling hard assets, especially gold, as faith in the dollar continues to erode. “There's nowhere else to go,” he adds, predicting that gold's rise is far from over.✅ FREE RESOURCESDownload the Ultimate Decision-Making Guide on Gold & Silver plus Daniela Cambone's Top 10 Lessons to safeguard your wealth (FREE)

Justin brings on “Michigan Enjoyer” James Dixon to unpack Rep. Jim DeSana's newly filed impeachment articles against Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, branding her “the most lawless SoS in Michigan history.” Dixon explains why the move—though unlikely to clear the Democrat‑run Senate—still forces public scrutiny, noting 1890s precedent when a Michigan SoS was booted for “gross neglect.” They dissect Benson's 2020 order to presume signature matches, her campaign launch inside a state office, and AG Dana Nessel's refusal to act, framing impeachment as the only accountability left. The pair game out political fallout for Benson's rumored gubernatorial bid, tease federal cash reportedly bankrolling Chinese pathogen smugglers, and close with throat‑soothing hot‑toddy banter amid Canadian wildfire smoke.Get the stories from today's show in THE STACK: https://justinbarclay.comKirk Elliott PHD - FREE consultation on wealth conservation - http://GoldWithJustin.comJoin Justin in the MAHA revolution - http://HealthWithJustin.comTry Cue Streaming for just $2 / day and help support the good guys https://justinbarclay.com/cueUp to 80% OFF! Award-winning journalist Yardena Schwartz joins host Steven Shalowitz to discuss her groundbreaking book, Ghosts of a Holy War: The 1929 Massacre in Palestine That Ignited the Arab-Israeli Conflict. In this gripping conversation, Schwartz unveils the forgotten story of the Hebron Massacre—where 67 Jews were brutally murdered by their neighbors—and traces how disinformation, denial, and extremism set the stage for a century of conflict, culminating in the horrors of October 7, 2023. Drawing chilling parallels between past and present, this episode offers a sobering look at the Mufti of Jerusalem's Nazi ties, the roots of Palestinian incitement, and why history, if ignored, is doomed to repeat itself.
