EJ Von Lyrik hails from a township called Mitchell's Plain on the Cape Flats, Cape Town, South Africa. She has been writing and performing her own material ever since she started working on music as a career in 1997. Having a distinct interest in music production, she started producing her own instrumentals in 2001.Her music is an eclectic mix of funk, rock, dancehall, hip hop and roots reggae. She is a strong advocate for human upliftment and inspiration through the medium of music and therefore her music carries positive messages in her lyrics. E.J feels the reason for this cross-over of musical genres is to reach out to a more diverse audience because the music is message orientated. She has performed on various international stages as well as collaborating with some hefty names in the music industry, and was a member of the (now disbanded) legendary, female hip hop group Godessa. This is a collection of her work spanning 20 years as a solo artist and also one third of the iconic and legendary African female rap group, Goddessa. I've had the honour of being the group DJ to both Godessa & EJ Von Lyrik performing within South Africa and abroad and her body of work is something to behold. 1.Intro Chuck D & Flava Flav 2.Conquerer (single - High Voltage Entertainment - prod Grenville Williams 2013) 3.Open your eyes ( (taken off debut album, Method in the Madness 2007, High Voltage Entertainment - prod. The show goes off the rails within the first four minutes when Maino dumps his coffee everywhere. Todd comes to the rescue with a roll of paper towels and cleaning spray. Jim shares how his conversation with his daughter's boyfriend's family went. They are from and live in India, so Jim thought it would be good to wish them a nice greeting in Hindi. Maino & Todd warned him to skip the effort, but he did so anyway. The response? Laughter. We're still not sure what Jim actually said to the family. Lisa Hale joins us to give us a rundown of what's in store for NEWisco Weekend. This week the show focuses on agriculture in the state. Privacy Commissioner Carly Kind was “surprised” – read underwhelmed – by the first tranche of Privacy Act legislation laid before parliament last month. But she says the hard stuff is still coming after the election, which means businesses now diverting budgets away from compliance to other activities may regret it, especially as the regulator has sharper teeth. Kind says firms are failing under the current Privacy Act – and they are in the regulator's crosshairs. Tracking pixels are under serious scrutiny across the piste, as are companies using data beyond what it was collected for and potentially passing it to third parties. In that vein, Kind has “existing concerns” about loyalty programs, customer data enrichment businesses and data broking: “It's something I'd like to look at again under the current framework,” she says, suggesting those operators “make sure that they're watertight”. Likewise firms targeting via geolocation: “We're looking at a case at the moment … We have some real concerns about how it's being used.” Lookalikes, customer audiences, hashed emails and data clean rooms appear to be in the clear. But under the next wave of reforms “the changing definition of personal information could certainly have an impact,” she says, though for now it's not clear-cut. In the meantime, Kind says there are four areas for businesses to laser in on – including small firms who will no longer be exempt from regulation. First, “know what data you hold and who you're giving it to.” Second, “make sure you've got a retention and destruction regime in place – anything that's old, you don't need to hold it any more.” Next, get into the weeds on contracts with third party service providers and be sure to have a data breach response plan in place. “It's an area of vulnerability we're seeing a lot at the moment,” says Kind. In short: “Don't take your foot off the gas, because we're looking to take a more enforcement-based approach to regulation in the interim.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Send us a Text Message.EPISODE 367 - Michael Gross - Spillage is a wickedly fun throwback to a chaotic time in New YorkIt's 1976, and the Big Apple is in sorry shape. Besieged on all sides, the city has become a graffiti-coated, garbage-filled, crime-ridden cauldron, teetering on the edge of total collapse. Adding to New York's towering woes, a revolutionary group called the Satanic Vanguard has kidnapped the mayor, set fire to Coney Island, and threatened further mayhem. All that Gotham has to hope for are its resurgent Yankees, who've come back from the dead to reach the World Series by riding the arm of their quirky rookie phenom Nick “The Swan” Spillage. But Satan and his Vanguard plan to snuff that hope out too, they've targeted a young couple to help with their diabolical scheme. The rock and roll-loving pair—Joan and Eliot—came of age in the late 1960s when the counterculture peaked. They've lived together in New York's East Village for eight years, making sweet music on the subways while their beloved city crumbled around them. Then, in shades of the Faustian musical Damn Yankees, Joan develops an obsession with The Swan and makes a deal with the Devil to capture his heart. Meanwhile, Eliot wrestles with what it means to preserve his own soul as he makes a valiant effort to win her back and save the day. Spillage is a wickedly fun throwback to a chaotic time. At its heart, the novel is a love story and a search for identity in a world that's gone off the rails. Michael Gross began Spillage in 1976, the year the story takes place, while working as managing editor of Fiction magazine, teaching and earning his MfA at New York's City College. He also has a BA from Trinity College and an MBA from NYU, and was the recipient of a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship. In 1978, he embarked on a forty-five-year career in crisis communications, culminating in his serving as CEO of Finsbury (now FGS Global). He is married, has three children and three grandchildren, and divides his time between Brooklyn and Fire Island.https://www.spillagebook.com/___https://livingthenextchapter.com/podcast produced by: https://truemediasolutions.ca/Support the Show.___https://livingthenextchapter.com/podcast produced by: https://truemediasolutions.ca/

David Richardson from NCI returns to the podcast to talk about why CO (carbon monoxide) doesn't leak and what it does instead. CO is a highly dangerous gas that is colorless and odorless, and we can keep ourselves safe by staying aware of it with personal low-level CO monitors. However, CO doesn't leak; it spills, especially via backdrafting, a blocked flue, or updrafting. Whenever the flue gas comes back inside the structure unintentionally, there is room for a potential CO problem. With proper testing, we can determine the cause of that spillage and make the best choice to stop it from happening. When there is an excessive draft, there's often turbulence in the draft hoods, which leads to spillage. Spillage commonly happens at the draft hood, but it can also happen near the burner compartment of a gas appliance. Smoke tests won't detect that, but CO testing will. However, we need to look for rising CO levels over the run cycle of the equipment. If you test CO levels in the ducts, you're only seeing how the fans are distributing the CO; you're not checking the likely source of CO. Water heaters often give visual clues of improper venting, especially if there's soot, rust near the venting, or discoloration near the burner compartment. David and Bryan also cover: CO poisoning symptoms CO monitors vs. alarms The roles of stack effect and airflow in CO spillage Air taking the path of least resistance CO testing best practices CO and changes in sinus pressure Combustible gas leak detectors Low-level CO monitors Wind and its effects on pressurization or depressurization Electric appliances, generators, and CO poisoning Learn more about NCI's training courses at http://nationalcomfortinstitute.com/.
