Take our audience survey and let us know your feedback about the Growing Pulse Crop Podcast!Whether you're from Nebraska or elsewhere, this is a great episode about what's possible for the future of pulse crops. We talk about peas and chickpeas, but we also get into other niche opportunities like mung beans, cowpeas and more. You'll get a sense of the emerging pulse industry in Nebraska, but also what it takes for the development of pulse crops everywhere. We discuss genetics, agronomy, disease management and marketing strategy. We start with Steve Tucker. Steve farms near Venango, Nebraska in the southwest part of the state. He has built his operation on the principle of diversity and grows up to 14 different crops.“We can grow mung beans, I mean, there's different...aspects of these different things that we can do. What does the market need? And so I just had a conversation with a company that's looking for lupins. I don't know if you've ever heard of lupins before and so there are more various different kinds of pulse crops that who knows what else is out there and what people are looking for to utilize in food products.” - Steve TuckerWhen plant pathologist Dr. Bob Harveson came to the University of Nebraska in 1999, chickpeas were really on the rise in the state. Sometime in the early 2000's ascochyta really started to affect a lot of fields and there were no fungicides labeled for the disease for treatment. Since then he said fungicide options have improved over time as have genetics. Unfortunately, many of those same growers who experienced the devastating losses from ascochyta are very hesitant to plant chickpeas or even other pulse crops again. Despite these frustrations, Bob remains optimistic for the future of chickpeas and other pulses in the state. “I have a strong diagnostic background. So whenever something like this pops up, I try to determine what the problem is, how well it's distributed, you know, those sorts of things. Before you can start developing control measures, you gotta know what you've got in order to really make the right choice for that.” - Dr. Bob HarvesonThis Week on Growing Pulse Crops:Meet Steve Tucker who farms near Venango, Nebraska and explore the diverse crop varieties he plants on his operation and his motivation behind their selectionAlso meet plant pathologist Dr. Bob Harveson from the University of Nebraska and explore his involvement in pulse crop production and what he sees as the future of the industryFor more information on ascochyta specifically, you can refer back to some of the previous episodes we've done on the topic.Coordinated Research Efforts to Fight Pulse Pathogens with Dr. Jenny Davidson in season twoCanadian Pulses and Foliar Disease Management in season twoDisease Management in Pulses with Dr. Michael Wunsch in season oneGrowing Pulse Crops Podcast is hosted by Tim Hammerich of the

Steve Tucker is a western Nebraska dryland producer who has been farming for 30 years. He introduced regenerative practices into his operation over 10 years ago and values diversity in his approach. Growing upwards of 10 crops per year while integrating livestock, such as chickens, pigs, and cows. Steve also uses no-till farming practices and biological applications on his farm. Steve advocates for growers to market themselves in order to access more opportunities and advises them to look for alternate streams of income for the crops they are growing.  Steve runs Agriforce Seed with his business partner Jeff Olsen. Steve grows sunflower, hay millet, oats, yellow field peas, winter wheat, Golden German hay millet, and forage pea/oat hay blends. His ultimate goal is to build soil health by mobilizing soil microorganisms to grow better, higher quality, more nutrient-dense food.  In this episode, John and Steve discuss: Being content with the size of the farm you operate Making connections by marketing yourself  Selling by the pound vs selling by the bushel Looking for sales opportunities around you to sell Pursuing multiple streams of farm income  Identifying opportunities that come from promoting more life on the farm Using biologicals, including AEA's BioCoat Gold Finding the freedom of doing things on your own terms AgriForce Seed is Nebraska's largest pulse seed producer. After an extensive aftermarket career working in parts stores, machine shops and with major aftermarket suppliers, Steve Tucker, who was named president of Automotive Parts Associates (APA) in February of 2021, describes moving to the program group side of the business as a “shock.” “You spend a lot of time in this business, and you think you know everything, and then, you switch gears and find out you know very little,” Tucker says. “It gave me a great perspective on how the customer thinks. No matter how much time you spend on the other side of the desk, when you get on this side of the desk, you start seeing things with new eyes.”During his AMN Drivetime podcast interview with Babcox Media CEO Bill Babcox, Tucker also shared that working with the group of people at APA has been “another eye opener” for him. “We all read about how the aftermarket is shrinking and consolidating and all those things, and the big box guys are taking share – and no doubt a lot of that is true – but what I really find is that all of these independent warehouse distributors are very entrepreneurial. Over here at APA, probably more so than some of the other groups. We have a lot of guys that have found a niche and it's really hard to get people out of that niche. They're high-end European or Asian or tuner specialists or heavy truck specialists. I call us ‘the Island of Misfit Toys.' Sustainable farming is a hot topic - but was does sustainable even mean? In this episode Michele and Eliz welcome regenerative farmer Steve Tucker to discuss why he changed the way he farms and why great soil is like chocolate cake. Steve Tucker is an ag production specialist. He farms in southwest Nebraska with his wife and three kids on their diversified regenerative farm. Steve's innovation has been important as the farm has moved from a wheat/summer fallow rotation to 14 different crops and several different ag enterprises. Key points: What is the difference between a sustainable farm and a regenerative farm? Sustainable leaves us where we are.  In the past farmers used to think about what pests and weeds they needed to kill. Regenerative think about the health of the soil and focus on how to make things better in the future. Steve replaced summer fallow crops with marketable crops that are great for the soil. He focuses on what the consumer wants, not what the elevator is buying. What makes happy soil? Plants harvest sunlight into soil Plants make happy soil by putting carbon back into it Lack of plants creates the need for fertilizer Good soil is like chocolate cake Three tips to overcome Food Bullying: Do your own research Know where foods come from Understand the other side of the equation Links: Steve Tucker Website Facebook Instagram Food Bullying: How to Avoid Buying BS by Michele Payn Embrace your Heart with Eliz Greene Food Bullying Podcast’s Facebook Page

"Morbid Angel's music is death and that's what people expect," deadpanned vocalist and bass player for the band, Steve Tucker. "Most Morbid Angel fans know the band is pretty diverse but they expect the music to have that death metal vibe."With the release of Kingdoms Disdained in December and the recently released boxed set, Morbid Angel are back in the limelight, with Tucker saying fans have warmly embraced the album. Despite the album being finished, out and in the can, Tucker does admit that the band have in the past been guilty of over-scrutinizing the album after it has been released."There's a little bit of both (scrutiny and that sense of leaving it behind)," he said. "I think that on this album my list of things that if I could I would change are nothing like they ever were in the past. This album, on all fronts from the recording to the pressing to the feel of it and the packaging - everything - was more satisfactory.Since forming in 1983 Morbid Angel have been one of the most commercially successful, influential and recognized bands in their genre, with an endless stream of musicians openly admitting the high regard in which they are held. Although obvious to the rest of the world, Tucker says that within the band the fact is rarely mentioned or discussed."No," he laughed, "that's not really something... honestly, inside of the band time goes by much faster than outside. Outside of the band you can look at 25 years and it seems like a tremendous amount of time but from inside it doesn't seem so long ago. You sort of go from album to album man. You spend a big chunk of your life writing and recording an album and then it gets released and you go out and support the album and that whole process is a number of years. Talking about being legends or talking about the influence that Morbid Angel has had on anyone is not really something that we would sit around and do. For us, when you around this long... nobody expected death metal to last almost 30 years dude. No-one expected it as far as it's just a process of making music and playing shows. Death metal has become as legitimate a music genre as anything else out there. It doesn't seem like it's something that's going away anytime soon."To hear more in-depth takes on Tucker's view on the music world in general as well as a detailed listing of what to expect in the box set as well as his thoughts on Morbid angel before he joined the band tune in to the audio below.Kris Peters

Legendary death metal unit MORBID ANGEL will unleash their ninth studio album on December 1st via Silver Lining Music and JVC in Japan. Titled Kingdoms Disdained, the record reunites founding guitarist Trey Azagthoth with Just one play of MORBID ANGEL's searing Kingdoms Disdained, and you'll realize that this is the only true current aural document of a world sinking into uncharted despair. "The album title says it all," says Tucker, "everybody's fed up and nobody can figure out how to fix it. We've got all these miniature wars in neighborhoods, cities, countries, and we've got people with varying opinions causing chaos, yet everyone is doing what they feel is right. Which all makes it feel like the world has reached a point of utter madness and confusion." As if fate constructed the moment, these forefathers of death metal found themselves witnessing the storm's eye as they prepared to create Kingdoms Disdained, deciphering it with their ferocious music via long-held Sumerian-based beliefs. "It's been written but nobody pays attention, because we erase our history," furthers Tucker. "We don't understand much about the Sumerian texts because things got erased, buried, and broken up. And for years, Trey and I talked a lot about the idea of those Gods waking up and coming back to show us that they're angry." Recorded at Mana Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida and produced by MORBID ANGEL with Erik Rutan (MORBID ANGEL, Cannibal Corpse, Hate Eternal, Six Feet Under, Belphegor), Azagthoth, Tucker and drummer Scotty Fuller (Annihilated; former Abysmal Dawn) created eleven pieces of devastatingly dynamic death metal. Compositions such as "Garden Of Disdain," "Architect And Iconoclast," and "The Pillars Crumbling" supremely illustrate Azagthoth's incredible creative alchemy with Tucker as well as his own incomparable guitar work. "We're always trying to paint pictures; to create images," notes Tucker, "and I think this album is a fair image of the world today, but taken from a different perspective; the perspective of those Gods who built this, who may be resting now but are starting to wake up." Kingdoms Disdained also features artwork courtesy of Irish mixed-media artist Ken Coleman, who created a series of pieces that further augment the stories being told. Don't walk meekly around the edge of Kingdoms Disdained, go all-in on the journey and MORBID ANGEL's intense importance to these times will be crystal clear. MORBID ANGEL's Kingdoms Disdained will be available on CD, vinyl, and digital formats. Preorders are currently available at THIS LOCATION where you can also hear opening track "Piles Of Little Arms." EVANGEL PACIFIC RADIO PRESENTS...This Special Broadcast. Pastor Will Griffith is joined by R&B Legend and contemporary peacemaker Timmy Thomas, along with his management team, Steve Tucker and Frank Levy. This is an EPR Exclusive interview on the eve of the launch of Thomas' WE CAN LIVE TOGETHER World Peace Campaign. In 1972, Timmy Thomas was watching the evening news hosted by Walter Cronkite. Mr. Cronkite was reporting on the Vietnam war, and the thousands of American and Viet Cong soldiers that had died in battle. Timmy thought "Why Can't We Live Together". This thought became a song that was embraced by millions. The song was initially banned in South Africa during Apartheid, yet it became their national anthem at Nelson Mandela's inauguration, where Timmy performed live in front of 200,000 people. Timmy has had other hits world wide, as well as having his songs placed in movies such as Boys Don't Cry, C.R.A.Z.Y., Dick, Radio, and Bachelor Party. Over 100 artists including  Sade, Steve Winwood, Santana, and Joan Osborne have covered "Why Can't We Live Together". Timmy has always lived his life for peace and love, from marching peacefully with Dr. Martin Luther King, to traveling to Haiti as an airline ambassador setting up safe houses for children that have been human trafficking victims. Innocent children are being killed by war, in the streets, and in our schools, and by governmet decree. Peace is needed now more than ever! Steve Tucker, Technical Director of Bunting Software on hosting with UKFast. When you're shopping on a website, it's handy to know what goes with what. Which bag will match that dress best? Do they make trainers in the same branding as this sports kit? Have I got all the ingredients for my recipe? Bunting Software, a website personalisation application, ensures you'll never miss out on what you need. By tracking the way people search a website, it develops an understanding of what browsers on ecommerce sites are interested in and shows them products they may wish to purchase. Hosted on dedicated servers with UKFast, Bunting is making huge waves in the ecommerce world, with users experiencing triple digit growth since implementing it to their site. "There is very little in the world that is similar to Bunting," technical director Stephen Tucker says. "As soon as it was out of beta, we had a queue of people wanting to use it - it's caused a great deal of excitement. It's caused sales to rocket through the roof, and it's helping ecommerce clients transform from small e-retailers into large scale players in the industry. It gives businesses a competitive edge." Having experienced trouble with a previous hosting provider that didn't feel passionate about Bunting, Stephen was looking to change providers when, by chance, he received a call from UKFast. "It was immediately apparent that UKFast staff know what they're talking about," Stephen says. "I migrated over to UKFast and since day one, the solution has been fantastic. Because Bunting needs to work in real time in order to serve my clients' customers, it needs to be very fast. It's a very intensive piece of software; I put a lot of load onto it and it does a lot of number crunching, but the server takes everything in its stride. "It's exactly what my business needs." Stephen has experienced more than just a quality server from UKFast. The personal support network has given him a taste of how hosting providers should work. "You expect a hosting company to be able to help you straight away with any server issues, but the reality is that you're waiting on the phone for 20 minutes at a time with most of them," he says. "That's not the case with UKFast. You get straight through, and now I'm on first name terms with all the people I speak to. "The UKFast people have embraced the Bunting software, and I feel as if they want to help my business. You're not dealing with a faceless corporation; you're dealing with real people. "You don't get that with a large company in general, never mind a hosting company, so when you receive it it's quite surprising and very nice." As the Bunting team continue to develop the software to create even better results for their clients, Stephen knows UKFast's solution will always handle the pressure. He says: "UKFast don't just do the service to a level that is required; they go so much further. "Like Bunting, UKFast is quintessentially British, and sharing those values gives me the confidence that we will work together for a long time to come."
