Frank and Jen break down Peacemaker Season 2, Episode 4, from the wild Michael Rooker cameo to that portable-dimension device that might not be what it seems. They dig into the alternate Earth, what it reveals about Chris, Keith, and Auggie, and why Adebayo might be the real center of the 11th Street Kids. The conversation hits possible DCU ties like Creature Commandos, Mr. Terrific, Blue Beetle, and whether the “boom tube” theory holds water. Plus, a thoughtful look at Harcourt's arc, Argus pressure, and how the show balances crude humor with real character growth. CA Timestamps and Topics 00:00 Welcome and coffee-fueled kickoff 00:24 First impressions of Episode 4 and the “family affair” watch 04:27 The portable dimension and how Auggie really got his tech 05:21 Series shift: Argus pressure, new location, and a relentless hunter 05:55 Michael Rooker goes all-in as an eagle tracker 08:14 “X-rated corner of the DCU” and the opening flashback read 09:49 Keith's role as heart vs. Auggie's shadow 13:16 Is the portal a boom tube or something new 16:29 Creature Commandos, Corto Maltese nods, and DCU connective tissue 19:38 Cameo watch: Mr. Terrific, Frankenstein, the Bride, or Weasel 24:26 Waller's name-drops and why she might show up 26:27 The coded “perfect world” that's not perfect at all 29:18 Adebayo as the team's glue and Chris's reality check 34:20 Harcourt and Rick Flag Sr. show a different side of both 35:58 Age, casting, and why Flag Sr. reads more “father-in-law” than “dad” 39:20 Why peacemaker is the easy scapegoat for a grieving Flag Sr. 40:07 Where this could go: reluctant father figure and hard choices 41:11 Enchantress, Rick romance, and what that means for Harcourt and Chris 42:15 Final cameo predictions and the Blue Beetle/Ted Kord angle 44:44 What if Dave Bautista played Peacemaker 47:44 James Gunn, Michael Rooker, and that dance 48:43 Guest plugs: Distance Nerding shows and Lego giveaway Key Takeaways Episode 4 plants a big flag for the back half of the season by moving the fight to a controllable space and tightening the Argus noose. The portal tech reframes Auggie's “genius” and hints at a broader toolkit that could connect to other DC corners. The alternate Earth isn't aspirational. It puts Chris's growth in focus and undercuts his nostalgia for a world he's better off without. Adebayo is the emotional center and likely leader in practice. She's the person everyone calls, and the one who grounds Chris. Harcourt's conversation with Rick Flag Sr. shows who she was before the walls went up, and why Argus keeps pulling her back. Expect a meaningful cameo tied to portals or Argus operations. Mr. Terrific, Waller, or a Creature Commandos face are all in play. The show keeps mixing crude laughs with character work that lands, which is why the heavier scenes hit. Quotes “Peacemaker is the X-rated corner of the DCU.” — Jen “This episode felt like a gear shift. Argus is coming, and the portal changes the board.” — Frank “Adebayo is the glue. She keeps everyone honest and points them back to reality.” — Frank “They didn't show that flashback for nothing. One choice can change a universe.” — Jen “Rooker only does that scene because Gunn is the one on the other end of the phone.” — Frank Call to Action If you dug this breakdown, subscribe and drop a quick review. Also note, there's an alternate dimension Hanoi Roxx teased at the end.-“Guestlist” by Hardcore SuperstarAfter a fight with Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), Chris heads back to his place for a night of hard drugs and bisexual orgies, while this song kicks in.-“Dreamer” by Foxy ShazamCompletely wasted from the party, Peacemaker stumbles through the QUC and heads to DC2, wandering in wonder around the house he shares with his “dad” and “brother,” while yet another Foxy Shazam song plays.-“Blue Jeans” by SilvertideHarcourt also isn't doing great, so she heads to the biker barGabriel's Horn. As she walks in, this is playing, presumably on the jukebox. It continues throughout the montage as they chop him up and dispose of the body parts by using the kyphotic alien's incinerator.-“Reapercussion” by The Cruel IntentionsWhile Fleury (Tim Meadows) is told to hold and watch Chris by Sacha Bordeaux (Sol Rodríguez), ARGUS assembles a team of operatives anyway to take Peacemaker down. We meet this ragtag squad to the song noted above.-“Dirty Money” by Ida MariaAfter absolutely obliterating Fleury's team, Eagly does a slo-mo victory walk to this song. That transitions into another montage, this time the “11th Street Kids,” aka the remaining team from Season 1, partying on Harcourt's rooftop. The song continues to play as we watch the team bond and chat at the party.-“This Time It's Love” by D'MollsBack at the party, Peacemaker and Harcourt have a heart-to-heart while this song plays.-“We Don't Need A Cure” by Hardcore SuperstarPeacemaker, drunk and sad, heads back to the DC2 after trying to text that Earth's version of Harcourt from the Peacemaker's phone (the one our Peacemaker incinerated). Once he gets to DC2 the text goes through, and he starts texting with the alt-Harcourt, while this song plays, leading us into the closing credits.

Episode Summary Frank breaks down the Season 2 premiere of Peacemaker with a clear eye on tone, pacing, and character arcs. He digs into how the show turns a once unlikable lead into someone worth rooting for, why the loneliness under the jokes hits harder this year, and how the new multiverse twist sets up real emotional stakes. You will hear thoughts on the Justice Gang cameo, the revamped intro, and the visual style of the folding door chamber. There is praise for John Cena's performance, predictions for where the 11th Street Kids are headed, and a quick show update while Thomas focuses on family. Timestamps and Topics 00:00 Welcome and show update for Challenge Accepted 00:52 What to expect while Thomas is on dad duty and how the show will roll 01:29 Spoiler alert and the review plan for this episode 02:06 Tone and pacing compared to Season 1 02:59 Why Peacemaker is now easy to root for 03:44 Loneliness balanced with humor and how the show pulls it off 04:34 Justice Gang interview gag with Maxwell Lord, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner 06:16 Harcourt at the bar and what that fight says about her headspace 07:04 Faster cross cutting and more time with the full crew 07:49 The 99 doors concept and Chris seeing Keith again 10:24 Reading the alt world and the darker subtext behind it 11:29 John Cena's quiet beats and why they land 12:06 Adebayo with Chris and Economos watching for Rick Flag Sr 13:33 Vigilante and Economos calls and why they still click 14:17 New intro song and dance and why it works 15:11 Folding chamber visuals and how the world multiplies 15:50 Justice Gang line up and a clean DCU reset inside the recap 18:13 Big moments to watch and a look ahead at the multiverse thread 19:27 Final thoughts and excitement for the season Key Takeaways Peacemaker's path from jerk to vulnerable lead keeps paying off because the show lets humor sit on top of real hurt. Season 2 spreads focus across the team which helps flesh out Harcourt, Adebayo, Economos, and Vigilante. The 99 doors device is more than a visual trick. It puts Chris face to face with the life he wished he had and tests his growth. Harcourt's bar scene shows a trained fighter chasing pain to feel anything at all. The Justice Gang cameo quietly resets the DCU context without getting lost in lore. John Cena's small moments carry as much weight as the big jokes. Expect a reckoning with Rick Flag Sr and a deeper look at guilt, forgiveness, and chosen family. Quotes “It is amazing how DC took a character like Peacemaker and now I am rooting for him in every way.” “These outsiders are going to reunite again.” “There are 99 doors in this folding chamber and each one asks who Chris wants to be.” “Sometimes we do not need to make it complicated. The reset is right there in front of us.” “John Cena is a fantastic actor and the quiet beats prove it.” Call to Action If you enjoyed this episode, follow the show, tap subscribe, and leave a rating and review. River Phoenix was a once-in-a-generation talent. In the 1980s, a decade known for artifice and excess, he brought raw acting chops to performances in Stand by Me, Running on Empty, and My Own Private Idaho. His career was only just getting started when he died tragically at the age of 23 outside a notorious nightclub in Hollywood. The story of his short life is as complicated and dramatic as one of his signature roles, and includes brushes with religious cults, skinheads, street hustlers, and L.A.'s drug underworld. Ep 465 - Seeing Street Kids' Potential Guest: Krista Thompson By Stuart McNish   “The reasons why children end up on the streets are complex. Often, their arrival represents an active decision on their part in response to serious rights violations at home,” says Moses Ogutu in “Under The Bridge: The Invisible Lives of Street Children.” Ogutu was a child of the street for five years. Today, he is an international business and trade lecturer at the African Leadership University and a 2017 Mandela Rhodes Scholar.   Ogutu's life journey is proof that children who end up on the streets can and do rise above the challenges they face. Ogutu points out that homelessness among youth is a global problem and in each jurisdiction, the reason a child arrives on the street is individual and globally similar.   Krista Thompson, the past CEO of Vancouver's Covenant House, agrees. “There are many successful intervention strategies that work to help young people who clearly have smarts and grit and problem-solving abilities to move forward toward a more positive future.” One such strategy is “Relentless Support,” a program that Covenant House offers.   We invited Krista Thompson to join us for a Conversation That Matters about ensuring that young people are not forgotten, are visible, and supported to grow, develop, and realize their potential.   Learn More about our guests career at careersthatmatter.ca   Join me Oct 3 for Conversations Live - A Vancouver Sun Town Hall: AI - Friend or Foe https://www.conversationslive.ca/

Part 3: “Multnomah County Manson”For the past two weeks, I've told you the stories of the Street Kids of Portland that fell prey to the power of The Family- Led by Grant Charboneau and Greg Wilson. They had a hand in the killings of Hal Charbanou, Misty Largo, and Leon Stanton. One of their murderous helpers was James Nelson. While Grant and Greg spent their time behind bars, James finished his, was released, and soon found himself on the streets yet again. Finally, he could fulfill his desire to be the leader of a group of kids. But he would rule with a literal iron fist. When a young girl with disabilities enters the scene, she struggles to follow the rules and soon meets consequences she never imagined and certainly didn't deserve. This is the conclusion of Street Kids- and the Multnomah County Manson family. For photos and sources for today's episode, check out the Murder in the Rain episode blog. Episode Host: Alisha HollandIf you'd like more episodes of Murder in the rain, Patreon members of at least $5/mo, gain access to exclusive episodes, ad-free episodes, bonus content, and more.Follow us on:Instagram https://www.instagram.com/murderintherain/ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/mintherain/ Twitter  https://twitter.com/murderintherain TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@em_murderintherain Website https://www.murderintherain.com/ Email murderintherain@gmail.comOur Sponsors:* Check out Factor 75 and use my code rain50 for a great deal: https://www.factor75.com/Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/murder-in-the-rain/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

Part 2: “Fantastic Army of the Night”Last week I introduced you to Grant Charboneau, Greg Wilson and the Family of street kids they ruled over. They had their own rules and if they were broken, there would be ramifications. Which was what happened to Misty Largo; a teenage girl who was murdered after a brutal 36 hours of torture, brought on after the family decided she was not abiding. Grant, as XO or the leader of the family, was starting to feel paranoid that his henchman, or hench-boy, 15-year-old Leon might spill about not only Misty, but the violent murder of Hal; Grant's father. So, what would become of Leon? Today, I'll be telling you about the death order put out on Leon and what Grant and Greg faced when the police came knocking. Part 1: "Rambo Games"Homeless rates have skyrocketed across the country over the last few years. But it isn't anything new. But back in the 1980s there was a new scene brewing in the houseless community- street kids. While many of the street kids of Portland were simply looking for a new home, a new sense of community where they could feel safe away from abusive homes, others were finding opportunities to take leadership positions that would allow them to take control over the kids. Creating “Families'' which differed little from the Manson Family. Today I'll be telling the first part of three surrounding Grant Charboneau, Greg Wilson, James Nelson and how their rule left Jessica Williams, Michelle Largo and Leon Stanton Dead.

Episode 185- Art Castro!  This was a very special episode for me because we tackle two very important topics - homelessness and the opioid epidemic. Art has a YouTube channel called “Lost in Phoenix” where he interviews young people who are addicted to drugs and living on the streets of Phoenix. These stories are heartbreaking but there is hope and even some happy endings for some already. In this episode we discuss why Art became interested in this topic, the specifics of fentanyl, some of the cases from his videos, and how you can help. 0:00:00 - Intro0:01:50 - Welcome Art & Nick Griemsmann Connection 0:02:44 - Growing Up In Phoenix 0:04:15 - Opiates &  Fentanyl 0:08:00 - Starting a YouTube Channel 0:09:20 - Prices of Fentanyl & Task Force 0:11:20 - Themes of Homeless People & Treatment 0:15:52 - Trying to Find Missing Homeless People 0:18:20 - Fears of Safety 0:19:17 - Carlos & Dream of Being an FBI Agent 0:21:24 - Jesus, Overdosing & Reunion 0:26:50 - Tony & Hustling for Money 0:28:43 - Cost and Dosage of Drugs 0:32:19 - Youngest Kids on the Street 0:33:35 - Michael Anthony Arriaga & Arrest 0:36:00 - Things You Don't Know About Drugs 0:37:35 - Enrique & Feeling Weak 0:39:38 - How to Treat Homeless People 0:41:55 - Eric, Recovery & Perspective0:44:30 - Couples on the Street & Enabling 0:45:50 - Looking in the Mirror & Under the Influence 0:49:08 - Boosting 0:49:48 - Media Coverage & Opiate Deaths 0:53:40 - Famous Opiate Deaths 0:55:00 - Prevention Through Awareness  & Transparency 0:57:30 - People Finding Their Purpose 0:58:25 - Donating to Help 1:02:05 - Wrap Up Lost In Phoenix YouTube Channel:https://youtube.com/user/acastrophoenixArt Castro link tree:https://linktr.ee/LostinPhoenixMail donations to:Art Castro2632 S. 83rd Ave Suite 100-240Phoenix, AZ 85043602-930-1289Chuck Shute website:http://chuckshute.comSupport the show (https://venmo.com/Chuck-Shute)

When we speak of revolution, aren't we are ultimately speaking of the creation of a different culture? And if so, how plausible or meaningful is it to imagine deliberately crafting a culture? In this episode, we begin to examine the long history of cultures on the margins of civilization as political projects, which are often misconstrued by states (and their ethnographers) as archaic remnants rather than deliberate efforts at state evasion. While this history will ultimately take us through millions of years of evolution, we will start by drawing out the parallels between northern California's back to the land movement--a culture we are all well aware was deliberately crafted as a political choice--and hill tribes, as described in James C. Scott's masterful The Art of Not Being Governed: An Anarchist History of Upland Southeast Asia.

The double murder of Audrey Carey and Steve Carter captivated the Bay Area back in 2015 after it was found that the crimes had been carried out by a trio of transient youth.   For many around the Bay, it was a catalyzing moment that pushed the problems of homelessness and youth dislocation out of the realm of “social problem to be addressed,” and instead into the realm of “clear and present danger to be protected against.” But is there something more to be learned from the stories of the three young people responsible for these crimes? And if we did manage to learn those lessons, could we do a better job supporting other young people walking a similar path? That’s the set of questions raised by former San Francisco Chronicle crime and criminal justice reporter Vivian Ho in her new book, “Those Who Wander: America’s Lost Street Kids.” She joins this edition of KCBS In Depth to discuss.  Host: KCBS Radio reporter Keith Menconi

Known around the world as throw-away-children, street-kids are subject to abuse, neglect and exploitation. They arrive on the streets of towns and cities from dire circumstances to live or to escape the cycles of abuse and neglect. Yet many view them as an irritation or at the worst pests that need to be removed from society. In this episode we interview Social Worker Marion Thomas, chat in studio to Paul Hooper; Director of The Homestead Projects for Children and visit a number of local Outreach Projects working with kids in Muizenberg to get their perspectives. We look at some of the problems resulting from a life on the streets and how it impacts both the street children, residents and visitors in our communities. What should our responses be to them and how do we help solve the problems arising. There are two sides to every story, and we try to understand both.

As founder and director of ‘Street Kids Direct’ he works tirelessly in Guatemala with a small team of staff and volunteers doing outreach on the streets, mentoring high risk young people, operating a centre which is a safe place for the children to come and training and campaigning for the rights of these children. Street Kids Direct is now one of the most successful charities working with street children in Guatemala and can accredited with the reduction in children on the streets of Central America. What Duncan has seen and the stories he can tell can be harrowing but we can’t ignore the desperation and the poverty that children in this world live in. Real religion, the kind that passes muster before God the Father, is this: Reach out to the homeless and loveless in their plight, and guard against corruption from the godless world. Youth Centres across the country play an important role in the rehabilitation of young street children. It is often the need to escape from poor circumstances at home, that drove them onto the streets in the first place.
