On this episode of the Adventures of Pipeman, Pipeman speaks to Danny Case from the band From Ashes to New at the Welcome to Rockville festival. They start off discussing the weather and how unpredictable it can be in Florida, compared to the snowy winters in upstate western New York. Danny shares a story of being caught in a sudden downpour in St. Petersburg, where the streets flooded with water but dried up within an hour. They both agree that the thunderstorms in Florida are preferable to the long winters up north. They then shift the conversation to the band's latest song, "Armageddon," which has been well-received by their fans. Danny mentions that the song includes various elements of the band's style, such as rap, screaming, singing, and a breakdown. Despite the absence of a guitar solo, Pipeman expresses his admiration for the song and its video. They also discuss a cool contest the band is running, where fans have a chance to game with the band and win an Xbox or PlayStation, as well as choose a show to attend. The conversation takes a more serious turn as they discuss the importance of mental health in the music industry. They mention a mental health Zoom call they participated in with other musicians, emphasizing the need for support in the music community, especially after the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. The contest's proceeds go to the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, which provides mental health support for musicians. Danny expresses his excitement about being at the Welcome to Rockville festival, mentioning his favorite bands playing that day, including Avenged Sevenfold. Pipeman asks about the iconic venue of the festival, the Daytona Speedway, and driving on it. Danny describes the grandeur of the venue and how driving on it in a golf cart was a surreal experience. They talk about upcoming festivals the band will be performing at, including Sonic Temple and Rock Oklahoma, with Danny expressing his regret for missing Rock Oklahoma in the past due to unforeseen circumstances. There is a community in every area of our existence. It can stem from family history, location, interests, belief or ambition. Community is the center of every successful civilization and movement in human history. It's in every city, town and village from Iceland to Italy and in every successful festival, band and genre of music. Today we are going to break down the power of community so you can harness it in your efforts to spread your Italo house music or whatever your vibe is to the world and bring in the Dinero. After several tragedies struck the music industry in 2019, dozens of music professionals got together to start Backline, an industry-wide mental health initiative. The organization connects artists, music professionals and their families with mental health and wellness resources. Backline partners with a number of health and wellness organizations including Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, SIMS Foundation, and Entertainment Health Services, to name a few. The collective is supported by some well-known names in the music industry, including Circles Around The Sun, Umphrey's McGee, Cloud 9 Adventures, HeadCount and more. Sometimes looking too far in front of us in great detail can be taxing on the brain. But, like a 30 minute jam of “you enjoy myself” by the band Phish, we don't really need to know ALL the details as much as we need to rely on the road map of a planned route and markers we've created to keep us on track. This can assure we nail the climactic payoff at the end and arrive at our desired destination. Today we will attempt to simplify the approach to creating a 5yr plan and how to start making headway, daily, towards those far out goals without getting your hair into knots. So hold onto your hula hoop! Sweet Relief Musicians FundEstablished in 1994, Sweet Relief Musicians Fund helps career musicians who are experiencing illness, disability or age-related problems. The organization provides financial assistance to help pay medical bills and for food, shelter and other basic necessities. Working across the U.S., Sweet Relief Musicians Fund offers donors myriad ways to get involved, including donating to its regional funds and those earmarked for specific genres. See how you can help by checking out www.SweetRelief.org Quotes of the week:Plans are nothing, planning is everything - Dwight D Eisenhower To achieve great things, two things are needed; a plan and not quite enough time -Leonard Bernstein How many times have you found yourself thinking about what your life and career will look in five years, as in the specifics? If the answer is not often, that's ok (for now). Sometimes when comparing why one great jam band is packing theaters and melting faces while another is not, The difference can often be found in the details, or lack thereof. 1. Dreams - What do you want?2. Plan - What do you need to get the thing you want?3. Video Premieres via BrooklynVegan.Following the release last month of the benefit track "FLATTEN THE CURVE" which features members of Minutemen, Runaways, Redd Kross, and more artists and bands from the punk, indie and hard rock world, the wide array of contributing musicians decided to create a video to accompany the track. Sequestered and observing social distancing guidelines and rules, many of those participating in the track submitted self-shot footage for the fun and arresting video which premiered on BrooklynVegan.“This video is like a bizarre Rock 'n' Roll alternate reality," says songwriter/vocalist/backing vocalist/guitarist Frank Meyer (The Streetwalkin' Cheetahs, Blind House) who wrote the song and directed the video. "Nowhere else would you see members of Minutemen and The Adolescents rockin' next to members KIX and JetBoy. Where else would you see the singer of The Runaways and Josie Cotton alongside members of Fishbone, Screeching Weasel and The Supersuckers? It's like my whole record collection made a record together and then a video... Actually I guess they did!"Set up to create awareness to prevent the spread of COVID-19, "Flatten The Curve" collected seminal and iconic rock, punk and alternative rock luminaries, celebrating the power of a community coming together to stop the pandemic. The song was written over the course of two days and the recording took one week to assemble and coordinate the full cast of characters. “Flatten the Curve” reaped the rewards from the contributions of its wealth of guests, all of whom donated their time and talent while isolated and in quarantine.Benefiting Jubilee Consortium and Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, “Flatten the Curve” will donate 100% of its proceeds equally between the charities.
