Business owners need a simple number which they can ask for from their marketing teams which will tell them how much work is being done to get the company noticed. This is because it's important to measure the input to the activity, as that's the best way to know what is likely to be the outcome. As glamorous as page views and fanciful numbers of followers is, these are not within the control of the company. Introducing the best way to plan, measure and manage the public relations of your team - the Active Communications Index.Content x Frequency X Channels = Active Communications IndexI explain how to use our templates to plan the storification of the business, and the templates to enter the frequency and channels the company is using to share it's news and activities. The ACI simplifies the process and enables the management team to have a transparent measure of work being done by the team each week.It also shows the power of content repurposing, frequency and the power of amplification. Let's not forget magazine publishing for our business; it used to be that we printed in-house newsletters and publications specifically for a product launch or a trade show. The brand audience across platforms for magazine media continues to grow, up 6.6% in 2019 versus the prior year to 1.5 billion. The average audience of the top three magazine publishers is competitive with the average audience for Google, Facebook, Amazon, and Apple according to the MPA Factbook. It's just that these are moving from the newsstand to the dedicated reader App and Kindles. What's also good is that according to the 2020 Edelman trust barometer - 61% trust in traditional print….due to editorial integrity. So I share here tools that you can explore to publish your own e-magazines.I used ISSUU for my publications to launch Morgan cars in China, and you can even charge for subscriptions. Even though YouTube isn’t a music platform, more people listen to audio content on YouTube than anywhere else. YouTube attracts 47% of all music streaming listening time around the world, according to the Music Consumer Insight Report. So we need to find ways to have audio files shared on video platforms for media interviews, product reviews, conference summaries, and of course podcasts. Luckily this can be automated and we don’t need video on YouTube to be successful, we can create audiograms; audio which is converted to video with a static image. On this podcast I will talk about the different ways of doing this, from the manual upload at the most basic, to podcast hosting services of Castos and Headliner, and the syndication services of Repurpose.Ultimately we want to be able to convert audio to video, video to audio, or video to video in horizontal, square, or vertical format with captions. Then we want to be able to Connect to platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and Pinterest. It's about to get cheaper and easier to hire a freelance PR person just about anywhere in the world and this is great news for business owners.Francis Ingham, Director General of the PRCA, many of the 10% of the furloughed agency staff won't get back to work which in the UK could be as many as 5,000 (PR Moment Podcast)This means an opportunity for business owners to pick up trained, connected freelance talent or to hire them inhouse. For those that don't want that commitment, there are a number of sites where freelancers can be found which specialise in PR e.g. The Work Crowd which claims some 2,246 PR professionals on the register. In Asia Sortlist has a dedicated directory for pr agencies and freelancers for example at a country level. At the other end of the scale is the Peopleperhour website which boasts 2.9m freelancers if you like to be spoilt for choice!Personally I have signed up the UK Digital Marketing apprenticeship which funded by the UK Government which will allow me to mentor a young person in the industry and to build out the SPEAK|pr PR for Business program. In Singapore we've been approached to help retrain mature employees who need to be reskilled; again with Government support. As business owners, we can make a difference to others by helping them to gain new skills, earn money and deploy Government money where it is intended. Finally, I discuss signing up for the Outsource School program as it has a 12-month program including templates for delegation of work. I've just engaged a UK trained Philippino entrepreneur who has started a virtual assistant business to help us to manage our content distribution processes. (This week she is collating all of our videos around the web and centralizing them into a new Youtube Channel). PR in Covid times means then potentially a once in a lifetime opportunity to build the brand of your business with expert help and remarkably flexiblle cost.If you like this podcast, then subscribe to our newsletter herePlease visit our blog post on PR for business please visit our site:https://www.eastwestpr.com/blogs/I also talk about SPEAK|pr - our 5 Step Methodology for entrepreneurs to manage their own PR. Without a key document, I am going to lose the Weibo audience I have worked so hard to curate in China under my Beijing offices of EASTWEST Public Relations. So what happens when all the hard work of building the platforms for PR for your business are disrupted by incompetence as in my case, or by malicious forces as I suspect was being inflicted on Zoom. The Ponemon Institute’s 2019 Cost of a Data Breach report gives some staggering figures on the cost of data loss. It quantifies the latest stats around data breaches: Average cost of a data breach—$3.92 million Each lost record represents a cost of $150 Average time to identify and contain a breach—279 days The loss of consumer trust is the biggest contributor to breach costsSometimes these are attacks, but sometimes it is incompetence which means we can lose access to our own digital files central to business continuity. Luckily there are some services to help us to keep snapshots of our digital assets so that they can be posted back online without delay, or used in the case of litigation.Preservica, for example, is changing the way organizations around the world future-proof and access critical long-term digital information – enabling companies to confidently meet compliance and legal requirements and safeguard digital content of unique cultural and brand importance.Governments and education institutions have their own initiatives too, such as the UK Government Web Archive (UKGWA) hosted by MirrorWeb, and the Stanford University Library. [Nb. I mention the WaybackMachine which is still listed and I have used in the past but today doesn't appear to be loading and so I am not linking it here.]The point is that keeping records is important for your brand story and your reputation management, especially in the case of litigation. Create and keep safe all that you do both online and offline. If you like this podcast, then subscribe to our newsletter herePlease visit our blog post on PR for business please visit our site:https://www.eastwestpr.com/blogs/I also talk about SPEAK|pr - our 5 Step Methodology for entrepreneurs to manage their own PR. In this episode, I have the pleasure to interview Andrew Clark, a partner in Asia Works and former journalist at the BBC and CNN who now makes award-winning videos for clients including Rolls Royce and Unicef from their offices in in Singapore, Jakarta, Bangkok and Beijing. We met on a plane ride in 1997 from Singapore to Phuket - he had so much kit with him it started a conversation and a life long friendship. We discuss how his clients are using video for their public relations and education programs, the impact of handheld camera clips, if we should be using a green screen when we make our own videos, and some professional accessories any budding producer should have.Remember that video can be very powerful, but doesn't have to cost a lot. Some case studies which worked:JetBlue came up with a video idea to make such a baby-crying flight a win-win for everyone involved. JetBlue’s promotion of the video on their Facebook page has garnered over 1.3 millions, and it’s been seen over 1.6 million times on YouTubeI mention our work with AsiaWorks for Brompton Bicycles. The Overnight Brompton 100KM Ride around Singapore, on 20 January 2018, is a community event held by local owners with the support of the local retail agent. The Brompton UK company contracted EASTWEST Public Relations to make a video of the event and to share that on social channels including our own and the local clubs promoted the video via their social channels including Facebook and Twitter. How can you improve your business by giving 5 smiles to your customer from waiting to making a purchase? Listen to David Maister's law of service explained and his 8 aspects of waiting which give clues to how we can win over our customers; which is really free and effective public relations.Satisfaction = Perception - Expectation.1. Unoccupied time feels longer than occupied time.2. People want to get started.3. Anxiety makes waits seem longer,4. Uncertain waits are longer than known, finite waits.5. Unexplained waits are longer than explained waits.6. Unfair waits are longer than equitable waits.7. The more valuable the service, the longer the customer will wait.8. Solo waits feel longer than group waits.Public relations is not just about media relations, it's about how we treat our customers. The reason for this is because people who deal with our companies now can share their experiences not just with the company but via their own social channels. If you like this podcast, then subscribe to our newsletter herePlease visit our blog post on PR for business please visit our site:https://www.eastwestpr.com/blogs/I also talk about SPEAK|pr - our 5 Step Methodology for entrepreneurs to manage their own PR. What can business owners learn from the President of America about building a reputation for a country, and an organization? A 25-nation Pew survey in 2018 found, overall, that 70% of respondents had no confidence in Trump’s leadership. What we take away from these reports is that countries, as well as companies, have a reputation and that these need management too. I talk about how one man can make a reputation, and how stereotypes will bring bias to situations which will need to be addressed in any communications. Bruce Stokes, then director of global economic attitudes for Pew Research and principal author of an earlier survey (2015), said some views expressed in the survey may reflect stereotypes, but they are important nonetheless."Stereotypes such as honesty or inventiveness or aggression, are emotions — not rational views backed by data. (But) these emotions matter. Such stereotypes help drive broader attitudes about policy," Stokes said.I am using the 4th of July as a prompt to discuss the role of leadership in public relations, as there are many parallels between the reputation management of a country and of a company. Former Senator John McCain gives us some clues as to what could be a guide to the qualities true leaders display in public. Ask yourself how you can illustrate how you display these in your public relations.I mention the new book by Mary J Trump, “Too much and never enough.”If you like this podcast, then subscribe to our newsletter herePlease visit our blog post on PR for business please visit our site:https://www.eastwestpr.com/blogs/I also talk about SPEAK|pr - our 5 Step Methodology for entrepreneurs to manage their own PR. It's amazing that some companies, and individuals, still struggle to provide high-quality photographs to accompany their press release, article, or blog when they are a prerequisite for prominent coverage. The media, and our own channels, all thrive on quality images so in this podcast I share the costs and top tips from professional photographer Marcus Ahmad. Media coverage: In some cases – such as announcing a new appointment – the media won’t even publish the story unless there’s a decent image to go with it. Delivering the right message: Images can give the right, or wrong, message to your audience. If someone knew nothing about your business other than what they could see from a single photo, how would they describe you?Full impact: Whatever platforms you use for your content marketing – blogs, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest – images are vital. There’s lots of research out there to show how images can help increase engagement (e.g. tweets with images get twice as much engagement).3 Key tips - plus more in the show - from Marcus.Make sure you and the photographer are on the same page in terms of outcomes. Discuss first what you want to get out of this …eg. How many shots, for which purpose…image, style, purpose, colour or B+w, usageEmploy a Stylist - To help on-site so that you can relax and enjoy the shoot. You'll look better in the end. I mention my work with UK based Nick Hems.Personal grooming. Prepare the night before. e.g. shaving, eyebrows, ear hair, and. bring several changes of clothes and accessories to the shoot. If you like this podcast, then subscribe to our newsletter herePlease visit our blog post on PR for business please visit our site:https://www.eastwestpr.com/blogs/I also talk about SPEAK|pr - our 5 Step Methodology for entrepreneurs to manage their own PR. Over US$11bn is spent on PR and the burning question is "how do we measure the impact?"Actually now we can, with even more detail now thanks to technology but with some of the basic principles which have been in place for over 30 years. I heard them from one of the original authors in Singapore in 1996!Firstly, let's talk about the Active Communications Index: our simple formula which addresses the need to measure inputs before worrying about outputs.Content x Channels x Frequency. There's more on our website about this here. Then I am going to take you through some platforms which can be used for free or low cost, and also one of the biggest service providers. Coveragebook.com is a platform we use as measurement and evaluation is such a big part of where PR is at the moment. This service combines both strong analytics and excellent design. It visualises the impact of campaigns in a single comprehensive, intelligent and user-friendly way. It's really useful because it tells you immediately the page views and domain authority of the media your coverage appears in.Sentiment analysis is important because it's not enough to be spoken about, as Gerald Ratner found out in 1991 when he lost GBP500m overnight; there was too much negative publicity. TalkWalker.com has ‘free social media monitoring tools’ to track all sentiment. I've been using this platform to measure our work on the Ineos Grenadier launch today.Carma is the one of the largest media monitoring and sentiment analysis firms in the world with offices in 5 countries and over 500 staff. Really there isn't much this company can't do and it's global so that helps for international campaigns.I mention the standards body so you can go and find out more if you want to. AMEC (the International Association for the Measurement and Evaluation of Communication) is on hand to help. Great tools to check out include the Integrated Evaluation Framework (IEF), a useful guide to building a solid measurement framework based on industry best practice, and the Measurement Maturity Mapper (M3), a diagnostic tool designed to help you understand where you are in your measurement journey.Professor Jim Macnamara of the University of Technology Sydney created this IEF and I remember meeting in Singapore in 1996 when he headed up the Mass Communications Group of Australia. He was sharing the vision of the importance of measurement 30 years ago and deserves credit today for the fact that he is keeping the industry-relevant and measurement-based. He sold his business to Carma. If you like this podcast, then subscribe to our newsletter herePlease visit our blog post on PR for business please visit our site:https://www.eastwestpr.com/blogs/I also talk about SPEAK|pr - our 5 Step Methodology for entrepreneurs to manage their own PR. What can we learn about the digital customer journey from the purchase of a beginners sewing machine? The answer is a great deal. The industry sells products to consumers by a sophisticated mix of editorial reviews, influencer videos, manufacturer specifications, and merchant offers. The sewing machine industry isn't just about home stitching, this is a vibrant tribe in a worldwide and growing business. I was amazed - sewing machines market worldwide is projected to grow by US$17. 1 Billion, driven by a compounded growth of 3. 9%. Industrial, one of the segments analyzed and sized in this study, displays the potential to grow at over 4%. Industry reaches over US$44.3 Billion by the year 2025.I share in this podcast about how the tribes are driving amplification, and the consumer path to making a purchase. If we are to stop travelling then pr will become more local too, so what can we do to promote our businesses via public relations? Fortunately, there is a trend towards local media titles which create opportunities for companies to share their stories locally; just like we used to when I was a youngster!Founder Karl Hancock claims the nub network is now “on track to become the largest online local newspaper brand in the UK.”He said: “There’s a strong demand for hyper-local news without intrusive advertising and pop-up surveys. We encourage our journalists to delve into the community and talk to the people that really matter.I share on this podcast sources of media contact lists, how to research journalist contact details, and to build a shortlist of key media relevant to your business. Also, I share some details of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, which uncovers the lack of diversity and wage disparities in UK journalism, which I suspect is mirrored around the world. 64,000 registered journalists in the UK filing average of 50 stories per week, with 32,900 registered journalists in the USA in 2015. These are educated, underpaid and extremely busy people. How we compose our public relations and sales, information can often be informative and make us feel better but bore the audience to death. So how can we create more compelling content? It turns out that storification (sic) is the answer, and with thanks to Park Howell, 'the worlds most industrious storyteller', and his guest Candice Frazer at TTI Success Insights, I am sharing here about the 6 different driving forces which dictate how people will respond to situations and to information. Based on the theories of Eduard Spranger (27 June 1882 – 17 September 1963) a German philosopher and psychologist, who wrote a book in 1928 entitled, 'Types of Men'. In this work, Springer identified six universal attitudes and value systems through which we observe and experience life. This sets us up for the ABT methodology Randy Olsen for framing our narrative to the story, which is detailed in his book 'Narrative is Everything.' From theory to practical examples of the ABT approach, this podcast provides a useful lesson in storification; which at EASTWEST forms part of our SPEAK|pr methodology which is free to download.StorifyPersonaliseEngageAmplifyKnowIf you like this podcast, then subscribe to our newsletter herePlease visit our blog post on PR for business please visit our site:https://www.eastwestpr.com/blogs/I also talk about SPEAK|pr - our 5 Step Methodology for entrepreneurs to manage their own PR. "Communication usually fails, except by accident” Finnish original: Viestintä yleensä epäonnistuu, paitsi sattumalta so says Wiio's law.Audiences have a staggeringly low chance of understanding a message, possibly as low as 12%, and the broader the audience the more variables there are at play which magnifies misunderstanding. I use WIIO's law to analyse PM Johnson's COVID 'Stay Alert' address on May 10th to illustrate the points made in this Finnish politician's witty but useful analysis of how the audience composition impacts how well a message is understood. Why is this and what considerations should your communications program take into account in order to improve your chances of effectively sharing your messages. For more information this podcast you can read the article on our website. Wearables, hearables, homeables (I made that last one up) are all collecting vast amounts of intimate data which will plug into algorithmic public relations. How our companies collect and use this data is a golden opportunity to communicate in a timely and appropriate way with our audiences; but done wrongly as Cambridge Analytica found can finish a company. In this age of technology, we also have to consider the findings of Charlotte Kerner & Victoria A. Goodyear (2017) The Motivational Impact of Wearable Healthy Lifestyle Technologies: A Self-determination Perspective on Fitbits With Adolescents Report. I'll share those in this podcast, along with what happened with Governments tried to build trackers outside of the realms of Google Android and Apple IOS. Governments can't access private citizen data without their apps residing on corporate platforms; an uncomfortable lesson for us all.As entrepreneurs, devices which gather data present vast opportunities, so how can we take advantage of these whilst retaining the confidence of our customers? Pretty focused today on Google My Business service as I realized that whilst my own website had 855 visitors in the last 30 days the listing for EASTWEST Public Relations in Singapore had 1,766 views in the same timeframe! This got me to thinking about an insight shared by Russell Brunson, the ClickFunnels founder, that actually we need to go looking for our customers rather than be spending our time broadcasting in the hope that they will come to our business. Via my ZOHO social media manager I realized that I was missing Google My Business completely which can solve one part of this problem.I share what I learnt and how I am fixing the problem by taking advantage of this location-based search platform.Listen to this and our other episodes to get a high-level view and practical level tools for getting noticed for free.If you like this podcast, then subscribe to our newsletter herePlease visit our blog post on PR for business please visit our site:https://www.eastwestpr.com/blogs/I also talk about SPEAK|pr - our 5 Step Methodology for entrepreneurs to manage their own PR. Interviews are so critical to the building of a PR story but they are also a cause of stress, especially when it is live on television or radio. So what can you do to prepare yourself and the journalists in advance of the interview? There are some simple and effective steps to take, which are done by an agency like EASTWEST PR , but which should be done by anyone preparing for an interview. I mention the SPEAK|pr template which includes the message home. You can download your copy for free here.Different media respond in different ways, but the repeating themes are scarcity of time and abundance of information. It's important to help the journalist to filter through the volume and to provide just the information that the client wants to share. Storify - in our 5 stage methodology I begin with the power of stories, and the importance of them. As Park Howell said in his podcast this week, even the dollar bill is a story…everyone believes in the essential promise of payment when holding this piece of paper. In this podcast, I share about how companies and entrepreneurs can get in and amongst the 250,000 business book titles on sale. Apparently achieving publishing success is 5% writing a good book and 95% marketing. But for PR, publishing a book isn't with the goal of making money but rather of creating awareness of the company, it's working practices, it's leaders in a way that builds authority.Listen to some of the tools which I mention for writing a book, including transcription service otter.ai, but also other ways to participate in publishing long-form content.I share how Professor WLG James, my father, published "Fiction for the Working Man" in 1963 and is still a sought after authority on literature from the 1830-1850 period today. There are many side benefits to publishing, including learning about new trends, technologies and reaching out to people who otherwise would not find a connection.----------------Show notes above -----&------More Info below----------------------Listen to this and our other episodes to get a high-level view and practical level tools for getting noticed for free. Please Subscribe to the show and rate it. Actors, radio broadcasters, television presenters, politicians, tele-marketers, professional speakers, all of whom depend on the impression their voice makes for success, know its importance. Thanks to Ed's great guidance I went off to evaluate my own voice image, and share in this podcast how people who are responsible for being the voice of the company need to take into consideration breath control, articulation, volume, pitch, tone, pausing and speaking rate.Listen to how to alter your Voice Imag when talking with different audiences, including cultures. Trade and consumer associations don't sound exciting but can be a brilliant way to partner with other companies to undertake industry-wide public relations, to change Government policy, or to engage consumers. I talk about the vertical and horizontal types of trade organizations, and 5 tips on how you can get media coverage for your company by membership and participation in events. As EASTWEST PR we have just joined the British Exporters Association. This is just one of so many trade associations worldwide. In the UK there is The Trade Association Forum (TAF) established in 1997 and administered by the CBI. The Associations Association. Singapore has the Singapore Business Federation works with Trade Associations and Chambers (TACs) in Singapore for a comprehensive representation of the business community. In Europe the Association of Accredited Public Policy Advocates to the European Union, for example, has a directory of advocate organizations across the Union. The Marketing mentor website has a long list also of trade associations, and events websites to find more contacts for your company.Consumers have their own associations - such as the consumer protection association e.g., WHICH founded in 1957 has 1.3m members and supporters. How can your organization participate, contribute and leverage association membership? I am sharing from over 25 years of experience of building relationships with partners, Governments, and the media around the world. Edison Research Infinite Dial 2020 released March 19th, 2020 suggests that there are over 1,000,000 podcast shows worldwide; this poses both an opportunity and a challenge for brands. How to get noticed in a medium which is plainly important but is crowded, and is demanding to create a consistent flow of content. As Stitcher CEO Erik Diehn said."The data we found reinforce our belief that the unique, intimate appeal of podcasting makes its fans the most loyal and passionate of any medium."Here I talk about the practicalities of podcasting, how many people are listening and where (hint - an Asian country leads the listening figures), and when is the best time to publish.I also track down the podcast series of well-known brands Sephora, GE, ZipRecruiter, Shopify and Umpqua Bank. Slack had one too, but that only published 29 episodes...pretty slack really. If you don't want to produce your own podcast, which is quite sensible really, then listen for the tips on how to take advantage of this medium without learning new software. If you do want to host a podcast, I can recommend BuzzSprout as the interface makes uploads simple, the embed players are attractive and syndication to the main podcast players is comprehensive and well explained. The single biggest issue facing service based companies around the world is fear; the anxiety that consumers have of returning to shops, physiotherapists, dentists etc is that they won't be clean enough to keep them safe. And in the UK alone there are 70 thousand physiotherapists; so we need to find ways to get customers, clients and patients back.I propose a hygiene regime which is shared publicly, and share in this podcast how this can be done honestly and with practical advice. One technology platform which can be used and which I talk about is Trustpilot, a free to use service people's choice for reviews. With over 300,000 businesses reviewed and 1.1 trillion ratings and reviews displayed in Google annually, companies use Trustpilot to establish credibility and improve their reputation.Listen to the podcast, and share it with anyone you know-how has a business which involves people meeting people. Registration of a UK private limited company creates a flurry of thoughts about PR, an experience of the CountingUP challenger bank, and an unexpected opportunity with HSBC.HSBC, like all banks I imagine, has a backlog due to the Bounceback loan, 110,000 applications in a matter of weeks. My experience of getting a bounceback loan from HSBC was brilliant - quick & efficient. I was impressed. As I went to register a new company bank account I received a letter from challenger Bank + App Counting Up. This prompted me to think about what makes customers switch providers and what role PR can play.Listen to what Hermann Simon, considered by many to be the father of modern pricing theory and author of ‘Confessions of a pricing man’ says about value and secondary value. In his words lie the PR challenges that companies of all sizes face, and also the answers to how you can market goods with higher prices and have your customers loving you for it.Listen to this and our other episodes to get a high-level view and practical level tools for getting noticed for free. Please visit our blog post on PR for business please visit our site:https://www.eastwestpr.com/blogs/I also talk about SPEAK|pr - our 5 Step Methodology for entrepreneurs to manage their own PR. In this podcast, I discuss the principles of observational learning as first taught to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle at the Edinburgh medical University, the bad PR arising from an experience of fraud on eBay and how Rupert is selling 6 free-range eggs at a 37.4% higher price than the eggs on same shelf. We are all being observed by staff, partners and customers. The Likert scale often found on survey forms or questionnaires, measures how people feel about something which can be useful in many different situations. It was invented by American social scientist Rensis Likert invented in 1932.Businesses can use it now to learn about what's important in the minds of the team, partners and customers before they start their PR. What we can learn from James Radcliffe, founder and CEO of INEOS, about sponsorship of sports events? The answer lies in his upcoming launch of the Ineos Grenadier 4x4 and how he sees sponsorship as part of building his business.Kent University researchers layout out a theory about how you can choose which kind of events a company should sponsor in their paper: ABSTRACT - Sponsorship as a marketing communication tool has increased remarkably over the past two decades. Drawing from research in social psychology, a conceptual framework which affords a clearer understanding of the appropriate sponsoring of events when objectives are to improve consumer attitudes and increase recall is developed. The framework suggests that companies sponsoring events that provide a moderately inconsistent Afit@ to their company will be viewed more favourably by consumers.I am working with Action Coach to sponsor their webinar series as it is an Afit for EASTWEST Public Relations. Peers Have Influence Over Consumers, Celebrities Don't. This according to research by Collective Bias. On the day that Trump has his account fact checked, I look at why President Trump uses Twitter as his chosen channel to influence his followers, and more importantly should an entrepreneur follow his lead?I dive into the stats behind Twitter, its value for trends, time sensitive information and customer engagement. Credit to Sprout Social for informative post:Too summarise - The Twitter algorithm is constantly evolving. The Twitter timeline is a mix of algorithmic content and real-time content. You can turn off the Twitter algorithm in your own feed display, if you want.Twitter’s curation means that content quality and connecting with your followers are still essential ways to help your posts get reach and visibility. We also discuss Admiral James Stockdale, and what Jim Collins coined as the StockDale Paradox, and what guidance that gives to entrepreneurs about their messaging during this time. It's not about being optimistic, but having faith and being realistic about the challenges at hand. Admiral Jim Stockdale said, “This is what I learned from those years [1968-74] in the [Hanoi] prison camp, where all those constraints just were oppressive. You must never ever ever confuse, on the one hand, the need for absolute, unwavering faith that you can prevail despite those constraints with, on the other hand, the need for the discipline to begin by confronting the brutal facts, whatever they are. We’re not getting out of here by Christmas.”If a person wants to write their own version of events, then Twitter enables them to circumvent the traditional filters and restrains of editorial media. As Trump has found this makes Twitter a supremely powerful platform but also one to be managed with due care and attention. For a blog post which accompanies this podcast please visit:https://www.eastwestpr.com/blogs/You can reach Jim James on Linkedin:I also talk about SPEAK|pr - our 5 Step Methodology for entrepreneurs to manage their own PR. Hélio Vogas, Brazilian motivational speaker shared insights into the need to find ways to motivate staff as they come out of furlough, and shared the story of the #Reachfortherazor campaign led by the CEO Jason Killens and the Director of Operations Lee Brooks. What can you do spark a movement which is personal, on message, and importantly more symbolic than difficult to do, but which sends a message to staff, partners and customers?Although I didn't like the content of a China focused publication I received through my letterbox today, it did lead me to discuss the merits of printing ones' own newsletter as a solution to the lack of print which is available for long form information and photographs. In the old days of PR, print was an essential part of the marketing mix; perhaps it is time to bring it back especially for certain customer groups who don't live on the internet.I share here how my agency, EASTWEST, recently secured over 90 pieces of coverage for our client Rosti for it's 72 hour 3d printing service by framing the news release within our COVID mindset of Compassionate, Optimistic, Values Based, Informative and Digital. Finally - 'some good news' - a YouTube only show by celebrity in lockdown John Krazinski has been sold after only 2 months. There is another site running since 1997 called the "Good News Network®" as an antidote to the barrage of negativity experienced in the mainstream media. Because of its long history, staying power, and public trust, GNN is #1 on Google for good news. Public relations is about more than press relations; I have to say that I hate it when people think that PR is about having articles published. 'The profession or practice of creating and maintaining goodwill of an organization's various publics (customers, employees, investors, suppliers, etc.), usually through publicity and other nonpaid forms of communication. These efforts may also include support of arts, charitable causes, education, sporting events, and other civic engagements.'Business Dictionary.comI chat today about what I am learning from the Girls Day School Trust in the UK about pivoting, communication and being aligned to their "so that.""So that" was shared by Paul Dunn who is the Chairman of the B1G1 (Buy1GIVE1) is a global giving business movement that helps businesses give back easily in meaningful ways.
