Ben Rogers, Jeff “Skin” Wade, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray dive headfirst into the swirling chaos of college football's opening weekend — and the bittersweet farewell of a sports broadcasting legend. As ESPN prepares to honor Lee Corso's final College GameDay appearance, the crew takes a nostalgic (and hilarious) trip down memory lane. KT unearths a legendary, cringeworthy, and absolutely unhinged interview between Corso and Dan McDowell. A moment so tense and awkward, it's radio gold. You'll hear Corso misfire with the word “inferred” multiple times, accuse McDowell of taking “a shot” at him, and storm off in a way only Corso could.

In an episode that crescendos from silly to serious, Check Your Brain's Tony Mazur gets in the Wayback Machine to the early 2010s and covers the phase the West went through with hipsterdom. Hipster culture was exemplified by a phony blue-collar motif, making practical things slightly worse, and listening to terrible music like The Lumineers and Mumford & Sons (hence "stomp, clap, hey"). It's more of a mirror into the sad lives many 1980s-born Millennials have experienced and are currently experiencing, through some fault of their own.   But it's not all serious, as Tony talks about his recent string of odd concerts he has seen.   Be sure to subscribe to Tony's Patreon. $3 gets you just audio, $5 gets video AND audio, and $10 has all of the above, as well as bonus podcasts per week. A growing concern among digital commentators is whether artificial intelligence is irreversibly distorting the internet. Once a conspiracy, dead internet theory now reflects widespread anxiety about AI-generated content and its impact on online authenticity. AI-written articles, spam-like social posts and misinformation have contributed to fears that human-created content is being overwhelmed. Alex Hern, AI writer at The Economist, explains how user behaviour mimicking algorithms helped the idea take root, while Isis Blachez from NewsGuard outlines how Russian-linked sites are laundering propaganda to influence AI outputs. Mark Graham, Director of the Wayback Machine at the Internet Archive, describes how the organisation is adapting its efforts to preserve online content in a post-AI era. Christiane Amanpour, CNN's Chief International Anchor, reflects on changes to the news industry since she began reporting during the first Gulf War. Change at the central bank will accelerate once Chair Jerome Powell steps aside at the end of his term in May 2026 — or earlier if he resigns or Trump manages to fire him. Those changes include the rules that impact the largest US banks, which are already being reviewed, and on the Fed's workforce of tens of thousands across the country. “What we need to do is examine the entire Federal Reserve institution and whether they have been successful,” Bessent told CNBC on July 21. “All these PhDs over there, I don't know what they do.” “This is like universal basic income for academic economists,” he said. Cutting down on bank regulations Source: msnbc.com   Reuters Poll: Gold to Stay Above $3K on Flight to Safety Global trade and fiscal debt concerns are feeding into a flight to safer assets, sharpening gold's edge as a haven from risk, prompting analysts in a Reuters poll to sharply raise their forecasts. The poll of 40 analysts and traders returned a median forecast of $3,220 per troy ounce of gold for this year, up from $3,065 predicted in a poll three months ago. The 2026 estimate rose to $3,400 from $3,000. Spot gold prices are up 27% so far this year after hitting a record $3,500 per ounce in April with the U.S. and China in the midst of a full-blown trade war, triggering regular forays into safe-haven assets. "The first half of 2025 confirmed what many of us have long believed. Gold is not just a hedge. It is a signal," said David Russell at GoldCore, calling $4,000 a realistic target by end-2026 should worries about the U.S. fiscal situation deepen further. Source: newsmax.com

Good morning, America, how are ya? I'm Rabbi Dave, joined as always by the ever-caffeinated Friar Rod, and today on What the Frock? we're opening the dusty file marked Permanent Record. You remember the threat: utter one wrong word in 7th grade and boom, your life is over. But where did that terrifying idea come from? And why has it followed us into adulthood, now repackaged as cancel culture and digital shame? This week, we trace the roots of the permanent record from Cold War classrooms to theological scrolls to the Wayback Machine. Is there redemption in a world that never forgets? Do God and Google use the same filing system? And why the frock are we not on CNN's podcast list?Grab your beverage of choice and get ready to repent, reflect, and maybe rage a little. This is What the Frock?, and yes, this is going on your record.

This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit wisdomofcrowds.live“War is the father of all and the king of all; and some he has made gods and some men, some bond and some free.”So said the ancient Greek philosopher, Heraclitus. In his essay this week, Santiago Ramos says the opposite: “… war is a necessary evil; it is not what preserves the great achievements of the human race. War threatens those achievements, and we are lucky that more has not been destroyed already.” Santiago believes that pro-war voices which emerged during the recent Israel-Iran kerfuffle are expressing something more than the need to fight wars for self-defense and world order. They are voices which celebrate war as an essential, creative activity in history. Damir Marusic shares Santiago's distrust of those pro-war voices. But he thinks Santiago goes too far in a utopian, kumbaya direction. War, Damir says, will always be part of the human condition. It is folly to believe that human beings will progress enough to one day beat their swords into plowshares forever. In response, Santiago accuses Damir of believing in original sin but without the possibility of grace. Damir denies this and clarifies this position: “I want no heroes among human beings.”This rollicking debate reaches a climax in our bonus section for paid subscribers. Damir discusses Iranian incentives after the recent American bombing and ponders the possibility of a future war. He challenges Santiago to consider Trump's oft-repeated slogan, “Peace through strength.” Also in the bonus section: How much moralizing did Santiago do in his essay? the two men wonder. Santiago explains what he means by “a weird conscience-element in the air.” Why didn't Venice get destroyed? Why did Dresden get destroyed? Can you disentangle justice from sovereignty? Can you have morality without God? Damir explains to Santiago why he (Santiago) needs to talk more about Jesus. Santiago tells Damir the story of the Catonsville Nine. “What happens when a DFW radio legend refuses to leave the field—and the laws of gravity have other plans?”In this laugh-out-loud trip through time, Ben Rogers, Jeff “Skin” Wade, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray fire up the Wayback Machine to revisit one of the most iconic—and unintentionally hilarious—moments in Dirk Nowitzki's Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game history. The spotlight? None other than Jody Dean, the beloved DFW radio icon who made it his mission to play every inning—even if it meant falling flat on his face. Literally. From refusing to rotate out for actual athletes like Ezekiel Elliott to taking a tumble on a slow roller from Yogi Ferrell, Jody's commitment to staying in the game becomes the stuff of legend. KT gleefully narrates the fall he's waited years to call live, while Ben interviews Hall of Famer Tim Brown, who tries (and fails) to politely assess Jody's athleticism:“He looks like a guy who's taking care of himself… in what way?”The episode crescendos with a mock-serious postgame interview where Jody claims his “pancreas fell out” and boasts a record-breaking streak of nine consecutive injuries. The crew can't stop laughing—and neither will you.
