Greco was among the many brands created to capitalize on the guitar boom of the 1960s. These instruments were mostly copies of well-known American brands, and were made in Japan by a variety of manufacturers, including Teisco and Kandai. The Shrike, however much it might have owed to Rickenbacker, was an original design. Enjoy! Like the show? In the immediate aftermath of WWII, the founders of Teisco would get their guitar bodies from a milkman who built instruments on the side. By the 1960s they were responsible for a large chunk of the Japanese import market, coming up with wilder designs as they went along. They mostly built for third parties; case in point this Silvertone bass, made for Sears. Enjoy! Like the show? This week, Emily and Joan talk about a surprise drop from Fender—the Gold Foil Jazzmaster (available in Shoreline Gold and Candy Apple Burst). It's a Teisco-inspired Jazzmaster that we're pretty wild about. We also discuss the Rainger FX Minibar and the new FloraVolt pedal by Mattoverse. The two then touch on a recent story in the news: John Fogerty of CCR reclaimed his publishing rights after 50 years. This is the man who was sued for sounding too much like himself. There also may be talk of the Gaye Estate suing people. Like the podcast? Support us on Patreon for some sweet perks! We have merch, including additions to our For Fuzz Sake lineup! This episode features four, pre-recorded, live tracks by Finn & His Rustkickers - a NY based earth-shaking rock/punk/skronk/country/ska/noise band featuring members of Erratic Sculpture, pigEARTH, The Skels and The Belle Curves. This playlist was a ton of fun to put together as it forced me to get out of my comfort zone and to pay more attention to the music instead of simply matching energy with energy. That being said, I think the unique sound of Finn & His Rustkickers really gave me a lot of latitude to work with and I don't think you'll find an out-of-place tracks on the playlist, including our show closer. If you're interested in supporting the artists that you hear on the show you'll find links embedded in the playlist to their respective website or Bandcamp page. Player. Artist. And genuinely one of the most interesting people we've met! Born in Los Angeles into a musical family, Alan Deremo has had a long and varied career as a bass player and more recently as a producer and composer as well. His touring and recording credits include stints with Colin Hay (Men at Work), Belinda Carlisle, Nathaniel Rateliff, John Denver, the Captain and Tennille, Tony Hawk's Boom Boom Huck Jam, Glenn Frey, Dave Alvin, Eric Marienthal, Vince Gill and Amy Grant, Glenn Branca, Jesse Colin Young, and many others. His scoring work has appeared on CBS Sports, ESPN, Fuel TV, Sierra Club Films and elsewhere. Alan has produced over a dozen independent album releases over the last few years. During the pandemic Alan has stayed busy with various studio projects, contributing bass tracks to projects by artists from all over the world as well as working on ongoing production assignments. The most recent of those is Illuminations from Nashville artist Sean Della Croce, due for release in late February on the Pasadena/Concord label. In addition to all of the above, Alan has been an inveterate tinkerer from an early age, progressing from hacking up his first bass (a 60's Teisco) to extensive modification and building and finishing at least half dozen instruments in recent years. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bestbassgear/message
