This week, we're joined by Trevor Boone of Seattle's Emerald City Guitars. This Seattle guitar store is like no other, where you'll often find multiple Dumble amplifiers, original 'Bursts and impossibly rare Fenders alongside players' grade guitars and amps. They've also taken a unique approach to marketing and storytelling by hiring a full-time videographer to document some of the great tales behind their inventory, having an RV gassed up and ready to go, and self-producing a reality show about their latest vintage guitar finds on YouTube. During our chat, we talk about the store's big bet on content creation, how Trevor brokers these staggeringly expensive deals, how to move a six-figure Dumble across the country (thanks for the tip, John Mayer), and so much more. Stevie Ray Vaughan was a force of nature. With his “Number One” Strat, he drove a veritable trove of amps—including vintage Fenders, a rotating Vibratone cab, and a Dumble—to create one of the most compelling tones of all, capable of buttery warmth, percussive pick articulation, and cathartic, screaming excess. As he drew upon an endless well of deeply informed blues guitar vocabulary, his creativity on the instrument seemingly knew no bounds.Your 100 Guitarists hosts are too young to have experienced SRV live. We've spent decades with the records, live bootlegs, and videos, but we'll never know quite how it felt to be in the room with SRV's guitar sound. So, we'd like to spend some time imagining: How did it feel when it hit you? How did he command his band, Double Trouble? The audience?SRV was mythical. His heavy-gauge strings tore up his fingers and made a generation of blues guitarists work a lot harder. And his wall of amps seems finely curated to push as much air in all directions as possible. How far did he take it? Was he fine-tuning his amps to extreme degrees? Or could he get his sound out of anything he plugged into?Episode sponsored by Divided by 13: https://dividedby13.com/Follow Nick: https://www.instagram.com/nickmillevoiFollow Jason: https://www.instagram.com/jasonshadrickGet at us: 100guitarists@premierguitar.comCall/Text: 319-423-9734Podcast powered by Sweetwater. Pearl Jam is playing two shows in the City Of Angels this week, so once again we're back to cover another show from their history that they played in The Fabulous Forum. We're going back to 2006, the Avocado tour. A tour that we can kind of connect to what they are doing now with Dark Matter considering the high representation that you'll get each night from the album. This show in LA featured 10 of the 13 tracks while Dark Matter has consistently hovered around 8 of 11. We'll talk a little bit about the impact of the setlists thus far on this tour and where they intersect with Avocado. A great crowd show here (which is disappointing when you look at the ticket sales for both Forum shows for this week) and we'll get into how they made what could be considered a standard setlist to many feel exciting. The crowd came to participate on songs like Release, Corduroy, Even Flow, Small Town, Last Kiss and Alive, but also reacted well to the brand new songs. The highlights of this set that we'll get into come from Rearviewmirror, Crown Of Thorns, Gone, Big Wave and Inside Job, and we'll get to see an appearance from Tim Robbins joining in on a modern take of a song by folk musician Phil Ochs. Javier will join us to talk and teach about the Dumble amps that they've been using all tour, and he'll do a breakdown of Big Wave as well. Stay tuned as he'll join the show next week in preparation for Seattle! Rhett and Zack kick off the episode with a chat about which video games they're loving and Rhett's cross-country adventures with his wife before Eli Lester, owner of Two-Rock Amplification, joins them for an in-depth exploration of his amp-building philosophies.Lester walks Rhett and Zack through his origins in amp-building, repairing instruments and amps in the back room of the shop where he gave guitar lessons. He played in rockabilly bands and had an affinity for old '50s and '60s Cadillacs that needed work, but he couldn't afford to pay someone to fix them up, so he had to learn to do it himself. In his freshman year of college, he'd buy old amps and rent books from the library to figure out how to repair and mod them. Eventually, his voracious fandom of Two-Rock amplifiers helped him connect with the brand's founder, Bill Krinard. On Two-Rock's building philosophy now, Lester says his approach is more about feel more than sound. “We build them for the artist, not the audience,” he says. Two-Rock's obsession with delivering high-fidelity sound goes into every piece of the amp; Lester says each part is manufactured to spec in California, and part of the brand's high price tags is thanks to how well they treat their employees. “We're all tinkerers and geeks,” Lester grins.Later, Lester explains how they design high-wattage amps that don't blow your eardrums, and how Two-Rock is “tipping their hat” to Dumble-style amps. Building amps for a job is indeed hard work, but Lester wouldn't have it any other way: “I just get to build my dream guitar rig, that's all I do.”Subscribe, like, and leave us a comment!Big thanks to Sweetwater for sponsoring this episode. The speaker was mainly used in public address (PA) systems until 1953 when Bob Crooks decided to spare no expense with his new Standel line of guitar amps, and factory install D-130's in them. Standel became the Dumble of the early 50s with their innovative cabinet and circuit designs, and also due to their use of a speaker that could produce a much clearer and louder tone than the less expensive pressed frame speakers being produced by Jensen and others. Stars from Chet Atkins to Speedy West began using Standel models over Fender, and the boys in Fullerton began to take note. Leo Fender, whose goal was always to make a great instrument at a more pocketbook-friendly price, continued to use lower-cost Jensen units until he finally relented in late 1959, producing the Vibrasonic amp, which was his first factory-equipped model with a JBL and the first Fender with Tolex covering and forward facing controls. In today's episode, we will look at some of the myths about them concerning brightness, the actual weight of the popular alnico magnet D120F & K120 models, and the differences between cast frame and pressed from speakers. Also, we will discuss the polarity issue and the frame thickness of the later D120F and K120 models that can require modifications to be utilized in some amps. A short list of guitarists that have used JBL speakers during important phases of their careers would include, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Albert Lee, Albert Collins, James Burton, Jerry Garcia, Roy Nichols, Duane Allman, Chet Atkins, Dickie Betts, Vince Gill, Mick Taylor, Keith Richards, Jesse Ed Davis, and Eric Johnson.Gear Used:1957 Fender Esquire with a 1954 neck pickup, and original bridge pickup. Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!Brian is a blowing in the wind melodiously as we start this episode with some good ole' fashioned brain foggery and he admits to one common mistake that people make when building DIY pedals. By people he means him. Meanwhile Blake has been reaching stereo tonal nirvana thanks to his new Wampler Pedal.Richard is unwell again with round 2 of the winterflu and looks at the twitter war between Pink Floyd's Roger Waters and David Gilmour's wife and writing partner, Polly Samson. Somehow this also involves Hulk Hogan and Macho Man Randy Savage. Richard also rants off about unsubstantiated personal views that are in no way endorsed by the podcast and he makes some highly idiotic statements before revealing a shocking secret that he instantly regrets. Brian has invented a new cryptocurrency and the guys need convincing to a degree. Meanwhile Blake lets us in to an industry secret involving Mr. Dumble and why he wouldn't be part of a cashless society. We also discover Brian has been furthering his journey into AI despite the protests of literally everybody except Skynet. Blake enters the Metaverse, Wetleg, Single Malt cough syrup, Mr Joshy, a Les Paul with a Glaser Bender, Lou Ferrigno...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!We are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)Awesome Merch and DIY mods:https://modyourownpedal.com/collections/booksFind us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdVrg4Wl3vjIxonABn6RfWwContact us at: podcast@wamplerpedals.comSupport the show

Chapter 17: A Sluggish Memory - It is canon. Ed Sheeran is a Weasley (honestly, though, he should have been Charlie Weasley in the movies). We discuss the power of Sleepytime Tea and do our best to manifest the bonus that Dawlish deserves after having to be continually embarrassed by Dumble. Also, Death Eaters could have called themselves Dark Glamour and they didn't. Missed opportunities. So, are YOU are hoarder or a horcrux?
Chapter 14: Felix Felicia - THE HORMONES, Y'ALL
Chapter 13: The Secret Riddle -Another Dumble lesson! We discuss how Harry's instincts are pretty reliable and how maybe Dumble could directly respond to him instead of ignoring his concerns about Malfoy

Chapter 4: Horace Slughorn - We are unprepared. Shout out to HPST for our solution (in which we were also terribly unsuccessful). So we meet Slughorn. That dude is weird and a bit creepy. Harry is sassy (so much sassy Harry in this book!) and Dumble continues to NOT TELL HARRY WTF IS GOING ON
