Roman note: This is one of my favorite episodes of all time. Should be a movie. Enjoy! The tradition of the Tomb of the Unknowns goes back only about a century, but it has become one of the most solemn and reverential monuments. When President Reagan added the remains of an unknown serviceman who died in combat in Vietnam to the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery in 1984, it was the only set of remains that couldn't be identified from the war. Now, thankfully, there will never likely be a soldier who dies in battle whose body can't be identified. And as a result of DNA technology, even the unknowns currently interred in the tomb can be positively identified. The Known Unknown

During WWI, efforts were made on all sides to provide servicemen with identity tags to assist with identifying remains. This helped in some cases, but given the nature of the battlefields, many bodies were never recovered or were not identifiable. These servicemen made the greatest ultimate sacrifice. They not only sacrificed their lives – they sacrificed their identity. They are the “unknowns.” After WWI, many families had to deal with not just the loss of a servicemember but the idea that they would likely never know the final resting place of their loved one. In response to this collective loss, some nations constructed tombs to honor the unknowns. America's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier stands in the Memorial Amphitheatre of Arlington National Cemetery. It overlooks Washington, D.C. and is guarded 24/7 by soldiers of The Old Guard, the US Army 3rd Infantry Regiment. To explore the WWI origins of this tomb, the World War I Podcast spoke with Gavin McIlvenna, Co-Founder and Past President of the Society of the Honor Guard, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (SHGTUS).  Follow us: Twitter: @MacArthur1880 Amanda Williams on Twitter: @AEWilliamsClark Facebook/Instagram: @MacArthurMemorial www.macarthurmemorial.org

Join America's Roundtable co-hosts Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy with special guest U.S. Congressman Mike Bost (R-IL), Ranking Member of the House Veterans' Affairs Committee and Member of Transportation and Infrastructure Committee for a timely commemoration of Veterans Day 2021 and the 100th anniversary of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. Congressman Bost shares about principled efforts to bring greater accountability and transparency on the Veterans Administration (VA) as veterans await healthcare cost reimbursements. Congressman Bost also address the Biden Administration's chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan and the on-going efforts to rescue Americans and Afghan nationals who risked their lives to help the United States military. On economic front, we discuss the serious concerns of the highest inflation in three decades, the skyrocketing price of food, energy and gas, and discussing the importance of advancing pro-growth solutions. Congressman Bost's commentary addresses the urgency to help veterans who were exposed to dangerous chemicals from open-air burns pits: Burn Pits Cannot be the Next Agent Orange (https://riponsociety.org/article/burn-pits-cannot-be-the-next-agent-orange/) | The Ripon Forum "I refuse to let burn pits be the next Agent Orange." — Rep. Mike Bost (R-Ill.), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs The Washington Times: Wholesale prices hit record highs as inflation soars (https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2021/nov/9/wholesale-prices-hit-record-highs-inflation-soars/) “Wholesale prices at the end of October surged by 8.6% since October 2020, the highest year-over-year increase recorded by the federal government since it began tracking the data in 2010, the Labor Department reported Tuesday. The report is bad news for consumers struggling with sticker shock as prices climb. It suggests that a high inflation rate is here to stay for a while despite the Biden administration's insistence that it is temporary.” Bio: U.S. Congressman Mike Bost Rep. Mike Bost is proud to represent the 12 counties of Illinois' 12th District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Sworn into office on January 6, 2015, Mike is continuing the fight for our Southern Illinois' values in Washington – a fight he began in U.S. military, then as a first responder, a local job creator, and a state representative. In the 117th Congress, Rep. Bost serves on two key committees: Veterans' Affairs, and Transportation & Infrastructure. On the Veterans' Affairs Committee he serves as the Ranking Member, the top Republican on the Committee. Prior to his election to Congress, Rep. Bost served for two decades in the Illinois House of Representatives, rising to the leadership position of House Republican Caucus Chair. Rep. Bost also served as a firefighter for the Murphysboro Fire Department. He graduated from the University of Illinois' Certified Firefighter II Academy in 1993 and continued to serve the Murphysboro Fire Department during his six terms as state representative. Prior to that, Rep. Bost worked for 13 years at Bost Trucking Service, first as a driver and then for 10 years as a truck manager. Rep. Bost is a lifelong resident of Murphysboro. He graduated from Murphysboro High School in 1979. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps serving his country from 1979 to 1982. He was trained as an electronic specialist and radar repairman and received an honorable discharge as a Corporal E-4. In addition to his duties as a Member of Congress, Rep. Bost is very active in his church and community. Rep. Bost and his wife, Tracy, own and operate a small business – the White House Salon – in Murphysboro. https://ileaderssummit.org/services/americas-roundtable-radio/ https://ileaderssummit.org/ | https://jerusalemleaderssummit.com/ America's Roundtable on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/americas-roundtable/id1518878472 Twitter: @ileaderssummit @NatashaSrdoc @JoelAnandUSA America's Roundtable is co-hosted by Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy, co-founders of International Leaders Summit and the Jerusalem Leaders Summit. Since this episode drops on Veterans Day, we thought we would devote it to one of our nation's most respected veterans. Robert M. Gates spent half a century of his life devoted to public service. He started his career in the Air Force before being recruited to the CIA, where he climbed the ranks to become the agency's director under President George H. W. Bush, one of eight U.S. presidents Secretary Gates served throughout his illustrious career. In 2006 he became Secretary of Defense for George W. Bush, a job he continued for Barack Obama until 2011. He is the first person to hold that position for both Republican and Democratic administrations, a reflection of the esteem in which he is held on both sides of the political aisle. He talks about leadership, what makes a good leader, his own leadership style, and the leadership of the presidents he has served.  This conversation took place on January 28, 2016, at the LBJ Presidential Library, as part of the Tom Johnson Lecture Series.

Many folks in society are in their comfort zone. What I mean is that they are okay with just status quo living. It’s sad to reveal that many Christians are ‘slouching’ in life as well. Not fulling God’s will in their life and doing what Jesus commanded them to do. Did you know our adversary, the devil, wins when he convinces us that we do not need to be vigilant Christians? Listen to Pastor Tony Scheving as he shares with us why as believers, we should be “Christians on Guard.”
