Claire de Mézerville López welcomes IIRP alumnus, Gregg Scheiner, to the Restorative Works! Podcast. Gregg joins us and shares how his inclusive approach to mediation and conflict resolution empowers students and community members alike. He shares impactful stories, such as his work with a Nassau County high school where students and staff engaged in peer mediation sessions, leading to lasting resolutions and strengthened community bonds. He introduces us to the innovative Truancy Continuum of Care project, which utilizes restorative principles to reintegrate students into classrooms with supportive, non-punitive strategies. His initiatives have significantly reduced truancy rates and fostered a sense of belonging among students. Gregg is the director of restorative practices at the Long Island Dispute Resolution Center of the EAC Network (LIDRC). Gregg has been an integral part of this Resolution Center team for over a decade. He previously served as trainer and outreach coordinator, making significant contributions to advancing restorative practices across Long Island. As a circles and restrictive practices trainer, he has developed impactful programs in conflict resolution, peer mediation, and diversity training. His work has strengthened partnerships with schools, nonprofits, and government agencies, expanding LIDRC's reach and impact. In this episode of The Bald Brad Show, the woke mob is pushing, yet again, that mathematics is racist. In short, two plus two equals racist. A teacher's retreat in Ontario, Canada, is inviting educators in math to an event called "Exploring the powers and potential of Indigenous knowledge systems in mathematics," according to the Post Millennial and promotional images of the event. The two-day retreat promises teachers will "deepen their understanding of incorporating Indigenous mathematics systems to enhance - and transform - the teaching and learning of mathematics for all students." The session will explore how “mathematics, along with other subjects, are not exempt from colonial bias and harmful practices that lead to inequities in student achievement.” The itinerary also promises to share tips and strategies on indigenous knowledge without "appropriating, minimizing, or tokenizing." The "about" section reads, “Indigenous knowledge systems, pedagogies, and methodologies can enhance and support the teaching and learning of mathematical concepts,” including that “educational spaces can uplift Indigenous knowledge systems and create transformative learning for all students.” A new math curriculum for Ontario's educational system in 2021 stated, “Mathematics has been used to normalize racism and marginalization of non-Eurocentric mathematical knowledges, and a decolonial, anti-racist approach to mathematics education makes visible its historical roots and social constructions.” Furthermore, On Tuesday, DC Comics released an issue featuring a “pregnant” Joker who “births” a son. The son, a mud monster who Joker vomits into existence, transforms into a smaller carbon copy of the Joker reminiscent of an Austin Powers-sequel Mini-Me trope. The storyline appeared as a backup feature in the fourth book in the series, “The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing.” It appears that the Joker was “impregnated” by a nemesis who he became enamored with: the female magician Zatanna. She curses the Joker, proclaiming that no one else could have his baby as she knocks him into a mud puddle. While Zatanna intended for the spell to ensure he never had children, it inadvertently “impregnated” the Joker.

Poker player and gambling author Mason Malmuth joins us once again to discuss his new book, Cardrooms: Everything Bad and How to Make Them Better.
