In this episode, host Shahin Hoda chats with Taryn Williams, founder and CEO of WINK Models and theright.fit, about the development of influencer marketing in the B2B space. As the founder of two multi-million dollar businesses, Taryn is a passionate and visionary leader, utilising technology to drive greater connectivity and fair outcomes for models and influencers across the media, marketing and advertising industries. In 2007, at age 21 and with $30,000 in savings, Taryn launched WINK Models, her response to inefficiencies in working conditions for models plus a lack of flexibility and quality service offered to clients. Over a decade later, the agency continues to be one of Australia and Asia Pacific's most recognised, with more than 650 models on its books and turnover in the millions. With a focus on helping talent to gain more control over job selection and being fairly paid, theright.fit, is a marketplace connecting brands to creative talent and influencers. After working as a model and producer since the age of 15, Taryn Williams was frustrated by the inefficiencies in the industry, with late payment common practice and jobs few and far between. So at the age of 21, she founded WINK Models with the company policy to pay all models within seven days, and include diversity in the representation. The business was completely bootstrapped and WINK now has over 650 talent nationally. Taryn quickly realised how important technology was to directly connect creative talent with brands and agencies. So she created her second business – The Right Fit, a marketplace of over 9000 influencers, models, actors and photographers all in one place, to make booking a creative campaign easy and cost effective. I ask Taryn how both WINK and The Right Fit aim to revolutionise the creative industry, how this year has affected her businesses with an accelerated shift towards digital, and how they deliver value and convenience to both their creative talent and clients. This is Episode 3 and our first episode for the year 2020. And I don’t think there is a better way to kick it off than with Taryn Williams, one of Australia’s most popular female entrepreneurs and digital influencers. Taryn is the epitome of ‘influence and personal branding done right’. She is a long standing client and supporter of The PR Hub, and someone I consider myself very fortunate to call a friend. At the age of fifteen, Taryn was scouted by a modelling agency, and began working on international assignments for the likes of Qantas, Virgin and other global brands. While modelling, she developed an interest in entrepreneurship, which inspired her to start her first business, Wink Models, in 2007, at the age of 21, with $30,000 of her own savings. In 2016 Taryn launched her second business, theright.fit, a two-sided marketplace connecting brands with creative talent and influencers. Not long after she successfully negotiated a significant investment round led by Airtree Ventures. Taryn is an in demand keynote speaker and as an ambassador and influencer she has worked with global brands including Max Factor, La Prairie, Lamborghini, Nancy Ganz, Franck Provost and the Art Series Hotel Group. She has received numerous awards including the 2018 Mumbrella Award for Innovation and B&T Women in Media - leader in tech. It has been a pleasure and an inspiration to watch Taryn build these two businesses from the ground up, and in this episode she reveals how they each required a completely different approach, from the DIY ethos of WINK to raising upfront capital for a high-growth tech startup. We also talk about how Taryn manages her own personal brand in relation to her businesses own identities, and why you should behave like you’re in ‘permanent beta’ Leave feedback or get in touch here: Samantha Dybac Managing Director and founder The PR Hub www.theprhub.com.au/podcast https://www.instagram.com/influenceunlockedpodcast/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/samanthadybac/ Producer: Andrew Menczel http://www.piccolopodcasts.com.au/

THE PURSUIT OF WORLD DISRUPTION This week I have on the show the smart, stunning and all round epic human - Taryn Williams. Taryn is the definition of a game changer in the world of entrepreneurs and business. She speaks on the subjects with an ease of flow and wisdom of someone well beyond her years. Taryn started her first company, WINK Models, barely out of her teens and has now grown to become a powerhouse in the Australian Start Up Space. Not satisfied being stagnant, Taryn is 18 months into her second ALL IN venture, the industry disrupting two sided market place - THE RIGHT. FIT. Miss Williams provides listeners with a refreshingly ruthless aspect to what it takes to be an entrepreneur. We cover subjects from mentors, to hiring and firing, as well as plenty of insight into the inner thoughts and conversations Taryn has with herself that lead her to living this life of adrenaline seeking start-ups. Taryn's specific essay question was: "Entrepreneurship is tough. It takes a particular kind of human to even think of beginning their own company, and it takes a special tolerance for torture to want to start that business in the industry of Model and Talent management. You didn’t only do it once, but twice, starting The Right. Fit almost a decade after, and in what has been described as competition to, your first company WINK Models. As a serial entrepreneur, how do you decide the time is right to keep going, pivot, quit or start-afresh?" I left this conversation with a renewed energy to get out there and get it done. No doubt you will get plenty out of this podcast too. www: theright.fit | winkmodels.com.au | tarynwilliams.com.au IG: @tarynwilliams | @theright.fit | @winkmodels Li: Taryn Williams www: wordswithoz.com IG: @wordswithoz Enjoy the Show. Sage Greenwood is the Managing Director of Wink Models, one of the biggest commercial and editorial modelling agencies in Australia. She has a very interesting story which I can’t wait for you to hear - it’s one you’ve heard before, especially when it comes to the behaviour of models living in cramped accommodation in Milan starving themselves for Fashion Week. However you may not have heard the one about the model with a double degree who goes on to pitch her dream gig at the CEO and finds her own career path in a life after modelling. It’s an inspiring story of creating your own luck and the value of connections, persistence and professionalism.Hold on, she’s a bundle of energy and has an infectious enthusiasm - which I hope rubs off on you as it rubbed off on me. Rooster Radio - Stories & Insights from Entrepreneurs and Leaders in Business, Health, Tech & More
Taryn Williams has never known normal. The entrepreneurial journey for the founder of WINK Models and The Right.Fit began with an unconventional childhood. Born in South Australia's Barossa Valley, Taryn moved and travelled frequently with parents who were progressive, highly supportive but provided few boundaries. It meant that Taryn developed into a highly responsible teenager, which put her in good stead as a 15 year old model trying to make her way in the fashion industry. Taryn says it is an industry that is far from glamourous. The demands can be brutal, and seeing how poorly that talent and clients were treated led her to start her own agency, WINK, at just 18. WINK has helped redefine the culture of the industry, prioritising health and wellness for models and providing a top quality experience for clients. Not content with just one fashion business, Taryn started TheRight.Fit, a talent marketplace for the fashion industry that opens up easy access to models, photographers, influencers, makeup artists, stylists and more. In less than a year, growth has been exponential. 2500 talent has already signed up, 850 clients have followed, there's a new office in New York and Bangkok is opening soon. Now running two companies in Sydney amongst entrepreneurs with "Peter Pan Syndrome" (no one wants to grow up), Taryn talks about swimming in the the deep end. In our interview, we also cover: - Challenges in entrepreneurship - The rise of influencer marketing - Preparing for growth in Asia - Breaking barriers for women in tech - Fashion tips - Much more! "Place your health first. All other things can't happen if you're not in a strong place mentally and physically.” - Taryn Williams, The Moment HQ Podcast Taryn Williams runs Wink Models and has done so successfully for the past 9 years (and she's only 30). She's also just launched her new disruptive tech venture theright.fit. It's quite common at the moment to hear about entrepreneurs coming out of the woodwork and rustling up the feathers within age-old industries, but how often do you find an entrepreneur that's disturbing the peace within not only their own industry, but also their own business?! Theright.fit, is making the traditional role of an agent or agency almost redundant - and Taryn runs her own agency. Catch 22, right? But Taryn sees it as exciting and looks at the glass half full over half empty. She sees this new platform for photographers, brands, influencers, models and other creatives as an opportunity for people to take their personal brand and career into their own hands. And because of this, more people in the creative industries are given the opportunity to pursue their craft and express themselves. Now Taryn's success has not come without a paying a few prices along the way. She's faced some serious health challenges, which forced her to stop and reflect on what her priorities in life were. Her honest insights around building her business and what she's learnt about burning the candle at both ends may just be the reminder you need to slow down. While she may be a successful and savvy businesswoman, she's managed to maintain a soft and humble nature about her business success, while also staying true to her vision and the change she wants to bring to the world. We chat about THE NON-NEGOTIABLES & WHAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT IN BUSINESS AND LIFE. Learn about: Owning your decision to pursue your dreams Why health is no.1 The non-negotiables How to decipher what your priorities are Making conscious decisions around work and personal life Taryn's advice to start ups, entrepreneurs for managing business And find out: What moves Taryn?
