Welcome to #2 of our 40th Anniversary Deep Dive Album Spotlight. Last time we focused on Motley Crue's "Theatre of Pain", an album that epitomized 'Hair Metal'. This time we're going to the opposite end of the spectrum. NY thrashers Anthrax' second effort "Spreading The Disease" was an important album. Not just for the band, but the Metal underground in general. Along with some of their Big 4 brethren's key releases, the album introduced a more mainstream audience to the awesomeness that is Thrash Metal. It's also an old fave of ours that still gets turntable time. Was this your fave 'Thrax album? In our "News, Views and Tunes", we go over the "Metal Massacre..." and "Sisters With Transistor" documentaries. Musically, we crank Sacrifice, C.O.C., Bitch, Living Death, S.S. Decontrol, Lady Beast, 7 Year Bitch, Direct Action, November's Grief and introduce Toronto's Villian in our "Indie Spotlight. Horns Up!!
Sure streaming is ruling the roost when it comes to how music is consumed. But the vinyl album is slicing their piece of the pie more and more. Metalheads have always been more album oriented as opposed to just cherry picking a few tracks. And for good reason. There have been numerous albums over the years that are best served whole. Albums that are 100% bangers with no one reaching for the "Skip" button. So this week we go through a list of such classics. In our "News, Views and Tunes", we discuss Joe Bonnamassa's axe collection and thumb through the new Fistful of Metal ish. Musically, we crank some new + used from Thunderstick, 7 Year Bitch, Spectral Voice and introduce Boston's Ravage in out "Indie Spotlight". Horns Up!!
Today on the Ether we have Kuji Kast hosting a happy New Year show featuring NAMI Protocol. You'll hear from jp.kuji, Phunky, Red_eyed_Bear, and more! Recorded on January 9th 2024. Make sure to check out the newest tracks from Finn and the RAC FM gang over at ImaginetheSmell.org! The majority of the music at the end of these spaces can be found streaming over on Spotify, and the rest of the streaming platforms. Check out Project Survival, Virus Diaries, and Plan B wherever you get your music. Thank you to everyone in the community who supports TerraSpaces.
Besides being known for rain and coffee, Seattle has a rich musical history. From as far back as Jimi Hendrix, through the grunge movement of the 90s, to the Sub Pop label that's still relevant today – something about the city seems to inspire good music. On today's show we discuss some of our favorite […]

Who says horror movies are just for halloween? There is a fantastic wide array of horror that suits every holiday! The Spooky Sisters, Cherry and Mel, sit down at The Shack and talk about the highly underrated 1987 slasher film, Blood Rage. It has everything you would ever want in a thanksgiving 80's slasher movie: obvious fake blood, promiscuous teens, eerie mother and son relationship, and cranberry sauce. The RAM office was shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Eric Wagner. Mr. Wagner was most noted as the founder and frontman of the legendary Trouble. The Doom metallers have a special place in our Metal Hearts, so we wanted to pay tribute. Former co host Roch was the creator and host of our awesome "Album Autopsy" series. The first episode focused on the amazing self titled, and eventually christened "Psalm 9", debut. Mr. Roch sat down with Mr. Wagner, drummer Jeff Olsen and Metal Blade producer Bill Metoyer. Together they dive deep into this important record. So in honour of Mr. Wagner, we present this encore presentation. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we tackle the baby (aka elephant) in the swimming pool (aka living room). Is this lawsuit justified? Or a cash grab? As well, we took in our first live show in eighteen months!! Musically, we crank new and used from the aforementioned Trouble, the unique new Matt Harvey (Exhumed) album, Warzone, 7 Year Bitch, MainEEaxe, Burning Witch, Sudden Impact, Domination Campaign and introduce Finnish punk n rollers Graveyard Shifters in our "Indie Spotlight". Original Release Date: 2/20/13 Original Episode Notes: Veteran Seattle rocker Ben London schools Aaron on what it was like to be in a touring band during grunge's heyday, when the words "FROM SEATTLE" would often be larger than the bands' names on flyers. Ben moved from Ohio to Seattle in 1989 with a tight group of friends who would go on to form seminal bands The Gits, 7 Year Bitch, and Ben's own Alcohol Funnycar. Most of these stories are from that time period, leading up to the murder of Mia Zapata, the suicide of Kurt Cobain, and the loss of innocence in Seattle's 90s rock community. Yeah, it gets kinda heavy. But there's plenty of good times as well. Ben has fronted numerous bands in Seattle over the years, including Sanford Arms, St. Bushmill's Choir, and Burning Rivers, but this podcast features the music of Alcohol Funnycar and Ben's current band, STAG.
This week, Mónica Ramón Ríos joins Chad and Brian to talk about her literary career, how she came to write Cars on Fire, Rutgers, some movies she's recently watched, how to read "Invocation," protests in Chile and NYC, and much much more. Wondering how to sustain radical feminist organizations over the long haul? Take a listen to WLRN's Edition 34 dedicated to an in depth exploration of the Vancouver Rape Relief Center & Women's Shelter that has been in existence for 45 years. Our program starts off with the greeting by Damayanti, WLRN’s youngest member from India, who also delivers our world news segment this month. The world news is followed by a radio skit by Jenna and Thistle to help get the word out about our fundraiser to raise $150 for WLRN's own hard drive to back up all of our media files. Next, is the song Dead Men Don't Rape by 7 Year Bitch followed by an interview Julia did with Laurel McBride of the Vancouver Rape Relief Collective. Dominique Christina is next with her spoken-word piece called "The Period Poem" and is from a live recording WLRN captured of Christina performing it at the Vancouver Rape Relief Center's annual Montreal Massacre Remembrance event in early December of last year. Then, learn a ton from member of the Vancouver Rape Relief Collective since 1978, Lee Lakeman as she speaks with WLRN's Robin Long about the herstory of their organization. Finally, enjoy the profound and thoughtful commentary this month delivered by WLRN's Sekhmet SheOwl. Thanks for staying tuned to feminist community powered radio. If ya like what you hear, please comment, share and spread the word about our station and work. This program is one of our most practical yet. "The Seven Year Bitch" tells the comedic tale of a Spencer's Gifts disco light, anger fatigue and a place called Puppet Town.
Jason and Matt listen to 7 Year Bitch's, Viva Zapata from 1994. Seattle was the center of the universe and 7 year bitch had lost a bandmate, Stephanie Sargent and their friend, Mia Zapata, lead singer of The Gits. They weren't fucking around, in the right place at the right time they took full advantage of the spotlight and attempted a statement at the god damn pointlessness of it all. Just rock and die, don't be an asshole. Matt and Jason fight about if they would have sounded like this coming from any other city in the country at the time. It's taken me way too long to get to a place to find old friends again. I"m so happy that we are all waking up enough to find each other again. I am personally committed to reaching out more from here going forward. This podcast is so much about it. During the early 90s period of music scene, I was so introverted and shy in some ways. I was used to being a loner and watcher in so many ways. That is who I had been in my life up into then. On stage was different. I felt an automatic comfort like I became a vessel and there was no time to worry! Ah that's a good feeling. Now I am ready and am so enjoying coming together with other musicians/friends that I really didn't get to know so much at the time. Ah youth! So afraid and trying to tough it through so often. You just don't know what you don't know at the time. Well many years later I do. So for our 5th podcast (I wish it had been the 7th) I reached out to the wonderful women of 7 Year Bitch. I loved talking with Selene Vigil, Valerie Agnew and Elizabeth Davis. I got the chance to regroup with some of them during the weekend of our benefit to support James Atkins (soul brother and bassist for Hammerbox). I just felt so much love and thought I saw a real look in each other eyes that we hungered to talk and were so ready to share and commune on where we've been, how we've been and where we want to go now. This really just felt like part I of many conversation! Hope you enjoy.
This is our massive 7 year anniversary show.

The all female Seattle band talk on their problem with being labeled a Riot Grrrl band, their experiences after the death of their guitarist, and some of the incidents while on tour in Europe and the American South. Listen to the origins of the band's most lyrically intense songs "Dead Men Don't Rape". The band explains their on-going struggle to have people critique them for being an all female band rather than their lyrics or music.
