In honour of Erin's incredible fundraising for Epilepsy Action Australia (follow the link to donate), we wanted to revisit this incredible episode. Erin will be running a marathon, be sure to follow her on Little Lulu Love for all the updates. While Jordana is away we will be sharing some of our past episodes, be back live in your ears soon. Erin is the mother of Luella, a gorgeous 18-month-old who suffers from West Syndrome. What gets her through her day, is the support she receives from her mum, Wendy. Luella has a rare type of epilepsy called West syndrome which causes her to suffer through hundreds of seizures/spasms a day. She is making meeting milestones that, in her original prognosis, wasn't possible thanks in large part to Erin and the wonderful intense therapies she goes to at NAPA.Wendy is a very hands-on grandmother and mother, which has helped Erin through her postnatal depression, she allows Erin and her husband Dave, a night off every now and again, which is really essential for any parent, let alone parents who have to manage the added stresses of Luella's condition. As Erin says "Luella isn't a burden, it's her seizures that are a burden!"There were many tears during this episode, but Erin has always been happy to push through the tears, so that, as a mum, and also as Luella's voice, she is heard. There needs to be more research and funding into West Syndrome and giving parents and guardians more support through NDIS.This conversation has two-parts: listen now to part 2 of this conversation with an amazing mother and daughter. Thank you again to Erin and Wendy for sharing their story and being the most amazing advocates for Luella. If you have an amazing story to share with us, please DM or email us. If you would like to be a sponsor, please email mothersanddaughterspod@gmail.comThanks for tuning in, stay safe. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

We're back for Season 3 with an incredible story with Jess van Nooten and Donna. It took eight years - and 15 rounds of IVF - before Jess van Nooten and Kevin Middleton considered surrogacy. They found an agency in Ukraine, given their excellent treatment of surrogates and the difficulty of surrogacy in Australia. This would have been stressful regardless, not having constant contact with a surrogate, but imagine getting a phone call to say that their surrogate was in labor early and Jess and Kevin needed to get on a plane. When they were in the air, Russia declared war on Ukraine, and the couple had to rescue their baby Alba from a war zone. They spent weeks in Ukraine before Alba was healthy enough to be transferred. They started a go-fund-me to help, given the enormous cost and logistical nightmare of safely bringing a baby out of Ukraine. Donna, Jessica's mum, joined Jess in London to help while Alba recovered from surgery and then was an extra set of helping hands to bring Alba home. This is a story of true determination and love; it has to be heard to be believed. Thanks to Jess and Donna for sharing their story. This is part one; tune in next week for part 2. If you have a mother/daughter story that you would like to share, send us a DM on Instagram or email mothersanddaughterspod@gmail.com. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Many of you will recognise Narelda Jacobs. She started her career as a news reader in Perth, and in 2020 made her way across to Sydney, for a permanent seat at Studio10, a regular on The Project, and now she's embarking on a new show, Dinner Guest. As the first First Nations Woman, she has indeed paved the way for others to follow on television or pursue their dreams. Narelda gave birth to her daughter Jade at 19, just as her career began. With her family around her, her parents and five sisters she was able to become the amazing newsreader she was. Jade always came along with Narelda, to the newsroom, to meetings, and with her came her paper and pen. It brought her great comfort, as she continued her passion she is now an accomplished artist. Her murals adorn Perth streets, which brings great joy and pride to her mum and grandmother. Narelda and Jade share their experience of having Narelda's dad come to school when they were young, sharing his story as one of the Stolen Generations - it made them both extremely proud to have him at school, telling a story that needed to be told. Narelda's parents were both Pastors, and from a young age, she learned about the power of her voice, speaking publicly and representing the Whadjuk Noongar and other First Nations people. We were so grateful to meet Narelda's mother at the end and have a chat with her. The family were all away together and continued our conversation around the dinner table with Narelda's sisters, nieces and nephews. Onto some personal news, we are taking a little break, as baby #3 (aka Peanut) is due any day now. But we will be back with more amazing mother and daughter stories very soon! At 19, Gabby Kanizay, became the youngest Australian to summit Mt Everest. Twenty-four hours later she become the youngest woman in the world to complete the Everest-Lhotse (8514m) double; the world's fourth-highest mountain, and her climbing partner? Her mum, Jane. As if that wasn't enough, Gabby also holds the record as the youngest woman in the world, at 16 years old, to climb the sixth highest peak, Cho Oyu, Tibet. Her passion for mountaineering began as a 15-year-old with her first trip to Nepal; a trek to Everest Base Camp with her Mum, Jane. Gabby has also enjoyed running and triathlons at home. She recently finished Year 12 VCE and is now travelling in Europe for a Gap Year. Her next plans are to climb the remaining eleven peaks (above 8000m), as she now has three under her belt. From a young age, Jane, 52, has always been into extreme sports skydiving, motorbike riding, trapeze, ultra-running and scuba diving, she now has a newfound love of mountaineering. She's extremely dedicated to her training regime for these climbs, while also being a mum of 4, to Sam, Gabby, Joe and Anna, and working as an educator and artist. She completed two 8000m summits alongside Gabby, Everest and Cho Oyu and enjoyed a well-earned sleep-in whilst Gabby headed up Lhotse! Jane is now rediscovering life as a single mum and climbed with the message of @teachusconsent; the holistic consent education campaign begun by Chanel Contos in 2020.Despite having altitude sickness, Jane still has the climbing bug, and might just join Gabby for another peak, as long as it's under 8000m. Britt Cohen is the entertainment reporter for Today Extra and her mother Lauren has been a travel agent for 40 years. They sit down with us to talk about everything from red carpets to being live on camera and of course how the pandemic has affected Lauren's work. The good news, 11 years into her time with Channel 9, Britt loves her job, and for Lauren a 2-year break, she's back and busier than ever! Lauren and her husband moved to Sydney from South Africa, to give their children a safer and better life. They were given a chance to come to Australia and jumped on it, within a few weeks, they were in a new country, with no family, no jobs and unsure where they would set up their family but what they did know, was they were safe. It was an extremely touching moment where Britt is grateful to her parents for making the sacrifice for them. Britt shared about her rise at Channel 9 from Intern to Entertainment and Lifestyle reporter for Today Extra. When we recorded, it was just before the Logies, where she looked amazing and did a great job reporting in the morning after a very long night!! Growing up Kelly McCarren and her sister Emma Hughes, had a great relationship, despite Kelly keeping to herself - for You Beauty fans, and followers of Kelly on Instagram, that may surprise you. But her mum Sharon agreed, she didn't know until later on that she was bullied at school. Kelly and Emma have the most special bond, as sisters, who are doing motherhood together, they really lean on each other to get through the day-to-day, with laughter and tears. In fact, throughout the podcast, Emma is holding baby Lenny (Kelly's bubba) throughout the chat, patting had shushing him for his sleep. And for everyone asking, Lenny does make an appearance at the end. Kelly, the host of You Beauty (Mamamia), is extremely honest and open about her beauty routine and motherhood. she doesn't sugarcoat it, and for new mums, she is a real hero. She didn't shy away when deciding not to take maternity leave, one that she slightly regrets, but regardless, soldiers on through sleepless nights, crying days, laughs and nappy changes. Sharon, Kelly and Emma's mum, was a shining example for her girls when it came to working and raising a family, having been an accountant and TAFE teacher until recently. Now she enjoys life up the coast and loves being a grandmother. If you have a mother/daughter story to share, email or DM on Instagram. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

This week, we kick off our episode with some very special Mother's Day messages from some of our previous guests, Bahar Etminan, Ariel Parker (Babes Project), Nikolina Kharoufeh (9honey). Wishing all the mother's a very happy mother's day! Our chat this week is with Rachael Casella and her mum Wendy. Rachael is an advocate for IVF, Genetic Screening, Child Loss and Fertility, all while working as an AFP officer, raising her son Zac and continuing to grow Mackenzie's Mission! Not long after Mackenzie was born, she was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) – a severe inherited neuromuscular condition without a cure. After the initial shock and disbelief, Rachael, her husband and their families decided to give Mackenzie the best life she could have, giving her all the love and experiences life had to offer. She sadly passed away at 7 months old. Believing no couple should face this tragedy, the Casellas launched a campaign calling for reproductive genetic carrier screening to be routine and free for all prospective parents in Australia. After losing her daughter, Rachael and her family have managed to move mountains, recently the Australian Government announced $500 million towards genomics research. Rachael shares her continued battle with IVF and giving a sibling to Zac and Mackenzie, she truly is a gift to this world. We thank Rachael and her mum Wendy for sharing their story and continuing to bring awareness so that no parent has to go through what they have been through. Part 2 with Rachael and Wendy will be released May 9th! If you have a mother/daughter story you would like to share, please email mothersanddaughterspod@gmail.com or DM on Instagram. With over 30 years experience of working in the fashion industry, Sally has always made Lettie's clothing since she was a little girl and still does today! After Lettie's father passed away, the mother-daughter duo created TDS, they made works of art from sorrow. Years later, although they might have different working methods and times, they still love working and creating their one-of-a-kind pieces. Sally, a previous fashion lecturer has made Lettie's clothes since she was a baby. It wasn't until Lettie went to university, that many people started to comment on one of her jackets, which was made by Sally! - and that they decided to join forces, combining their shared love of fashion and design. Sally has designed all her life. She has produced garments for herself, and private clients as well as working at a range of fashion houses from children's wear to intricate women's wear.It was so lovely to speak to Lettie and Sally from across the pond, in the home where they live and work together in perfect unity!! They both have a unique and important role to play in the business, with some guidance from Lettie's brother as well, it's a real family affair. Daffy was born in Bundarra, NSW in 1928, she was the youngest of 5 children. She came from very humble beginnings, something that she wouldn't take back and often longs for as it was a simpler time. Daffy left her husband in 1978 and she moved in with her daughter, son in law and two granddaughters (one of them being Melissa). Years later, she moved in with Melissa and her kids. During the pandemic, Melissa decided to start asking questions about Daffy's past, and her opinion on current affairs and recipes, she soon realised that her grandmother's "wise words" should be shared with the world, and so she did. Since then, Daffy at 93, has become a viral sensation, unsurprisingly, given her frankness, honesty and giving us a window into the past. Daffy at her age, has a lot to say, and there is no mincing her words, she attributes her health and age to "not drinking or smoking, avoiding bad men, and eating her veggies" - there's so much more she has to offer, and that is exactly why Melissa keeps on sharing her videos. Melissa is the lucky recipient of Daffy's love and a go-getter attitude, she does the gardening, cooking, laundry and anything else to keep her moving. We thank Daffy and Melissa for their time and their honesty. If you want to be infected by Daffy's Wise Words, follow them on Instagram and Facebook. Nikolina is a writer, producer and presenter with a passion for open and honest conversation and storytelling. She started her career at Nova 969, her parents couldn't believe it when she landed the role. As immigrants from Macedonian, they came to Australia, to give their girls, the best life they possibly could, they didn't speak the language, they left behind their family and friends, and 30 years later, they have succeeded all expectations. Danica beams with pride when talking about her children, and grandchildren. Nikolina spends her days reporting on the chaos of motherhood and answering all the 'wtf' questions she is left with each day after taking care of her toddler. The host of 'How To Life' the Podcast Nikolina isn't shy from opening up to listeners about her chaotic life as a wife, soon-to-be mum of two and confusing career. She has also written an e-guide for mums, Mum Advice, for those who are looking to cut through the noise and get a real answer, from a real mum. Danica is currently still working as a Diversional Therapist, after almost 30 years of her long-standing career, and isn't showing any signs of slowing down. She has a passion for looking after the well-being of aged care residents. We loved chatting to them both, they were honest about motherhood, careers and how to "balance" the two. Which let's be real is more of a juggling act than a balancing act. Also a big thank you to Nikki, for sharing her struggles in the early days/months of motherhood, with her son Noah. It can be hard to share with everything, including family, how the baby blues are affecting us, and she continues to share that with her articles and parenting advice on 9Honey, and her very funny and all too real, reels on Instagram. We're back for Season 2!! Sorry, we've been absent for a while, we took a longer summer break than expected! Jordana is now expecting her 3rd baby (spoiler alert, it's a BOY!). Now that we are back we are so excited to launch our season with Lisa & Isabella. Lisa, started Oi Oi Global, when she went on maternity leave after having Isabella. After working in fashion for many years, there were no nappy bags suited to Lisa's aesthetic, so she decided to create her own. And so after giving birth to Isabella, she brought to life her own brand, Oi Oi (a nickname she gave Isabella as a baby). Lisa worked tirelessly to build up her brand. Shipping from her home, getting the family involved in packing and posting, with Isabella by her side the whole time. Cut to 2020, Isabella was in between freelance gigs in marketing and decided to start helping her mum to bring the brand into a new light. They've been working together ever since, a wonderful silver lining to the pandemic. Lisa and Isabella have a great working and personal relationship, they know their place at work and while they often chat at home about grand plans, they know when to leave work at work and enjoy each other's company. If you have a mother and daughter relationship you would like to share, email mothersanddaughterspod@gmail.com or DM on Instagram @mothersanddaughterspodWe wish Lisa and Isabella all the success for Oi Oi, and if you're expecting or have a baby or toddler, check out their nappy bags and pram accessories! This week, we explore a very different Mother and Daughter relationship. It's 1971, Sue Currie, a successful model, found out she's pregnant (out of wedlock) at 18 years old. There weren't many options for women in this era, especially without family support. After giving birth to her daughter, Naomi, Sue held her briefly before she was adopted. Naomi grew up with her blended family knowing she was adopted and was surrounded by love, siblings and many sets of parents.Sue's modelling career continued and she always had Naomi in the back of her mind, on her birthday, and wondering where she was. In 1990, Australia's adoption laws changed and Sue registered to be contacted. Little did she know, Naomi, who had grown up in both Australia and the USA had also registered with the law change. Before long, two were contacted to get in touch and arrange to meet up. What followed, was a catch up on almost 20 years of lost time, and a new relationship bloomed. Noami and Sue are still extremely close, so much so, Sue was in the room when Naomi gave birth to her son, a full circle moment! Despite state distance, the two still have a close relationship and hope to see each other soon, with border restrictions lifting for Summer holidays. We thank Sue & Naomi for being so open and honest about their relationship and history. If you have a mother/daughter story you would like to share. Please DM on Instagram. Kasey Mathews, was 25 weeks pregnant when she started to feel labour pains, only halfway through her pregnancy. A few days later, after a dramatic, and almost traumatising birth Andie arrived. She was 84 days old before she returned home to her family after spending that time in the NICU and special nursery at the hospital. Kasey had to jungle life as a mother of a newborn in the NICU and a toddler at home. She credits her husband, and the village around her to get her through. When Andie was first born, her doctors didn't give her much of a chance in her development, but Kasey and her husband chose another route, to let Andie forge her own journey in life. Thankfully they did! Because today, Andie turns 21, she's at university and thriving in life. Growing up, Andie was adventurous, reached milestone after milestone, despite her original prognosis. Kasey, after many years of feeling anxious, realised that she was holding onto her traumatic birth with Andie, so she decided to write about it, in 2012 she wrote Preemie: Lessons in Love, Life and Motherhood. The Preemie book conveys the universal message that adversity is often an opportunity in disguise and the opportunity to witness a life transformation as a result. Whether you're looking for a preemie book for yourself or are searching for the best gifts for preemie moms, “Preemie” can offer inspiration and hope during hard times.Kasey is now an empty-nester, she continues to write and coach, while her children are at both University and flight school. Wishing Andie again a very happy 21st birthday! We hope you enjoy this weeks episode. Sally Hepworth is the New York Times bestselling author of seven novels, most recently The Younger Wife (out now). Drawing on the good, the bad and the downright odd of human behaviour, Sally writes incisively about family, relationships and identity. Her domestic thriller novels are laced with quirky humour, sass and a darkly charming tone.Growing up, her mother Geraldine modelled what a strong female character looked like, and that allowed her to write about it, multiple times over with her books and also live it, being the breadwinner in her family. Sally has always had an attitude of dedication and determination, on that her mum shares when Sally was a student, she wasn't the most "dedicated" except for English, until Year 11 when Sally knew it would count.Geraldine, Sally's mum is a recently retired teacher, she taught for 40 years, both English and History. She is also a published writer, having written several History Books. She's now a dedicated grandmother and the head of Sally's fan club. Having grown up with 4 sisters and 3 brothers, her family dynamic was helpful as research for Sally's books.Sally is releasing her latest book, The Younger Wife, which she wrote while during their lockdown, in Melbourne with her three children at home. She credits her husband (@mr_sally_hepworth) for stepping back from his work and stepping up in the home to take on the homeschooling duties to allow Sally to write. Sally also gives us an update on her deal with Amy Poehler, who purchased the writes to her story "The Mother In Law".To purchase Sally's latest book, The Younger Wife: https://www.sallyhepworthauthor.com/the-younger-wife (published by Pan MacMillian)We hope you enjoy this weeks episode. Rikki Stern was 20 when after a routine check of her sore throat turned out to be Hodgkins Lymphoma. What followed? IVF, Chemo and recovery. Deanna, her mother, gave up her pursuit of a new career as a landscape designer, she deferred her studies to be her primary carer/nurse/therapist/comedian and shoulder, to cry on. As a mother of 3 kids, it's not the first sacrifice she made for her kids. And if she could do it all again, she wouldn't change a thing! Rikki, in spite of her diagnosis, made a concerted effort to go into her treatment with a positive attitude and not sweating the small stuff. Turning her hair loss into a shaving party, aptly called, "Shave the Date". When Danielle Snelling was 21 years old, instead of engaging in University life, she became her mother's carer, who had been diagnosed with a rare and sadly aggressive cancer. Two years later, her mum passed away. She threw herself into a relationship to avoid her grief and it took her months to realise what she needed was someone who understood her. So she searching on Facebook and found Eloise. They both lost their mothers early in their lives, and after a 7-hour-first-meeting have been life-long friends and co-founders of Motherless Daughters.Danielle and I (mum wasn't on this recording, for obvious reasons) talk about her journey as well as how to help others who have or are going through loss. You might have a friend whose mother has recently passed, or is in palliative care, and you're not sure how to best navigate the situation. We all have the best intentions when it comes to the people we love, but sometimes we just don't know the right thing to do or say. Danielle shares what helps during these times, and what doesn't! Motherless Daughters Australia, aims to help women and girls navigate the emotional distress and impact caused by losing their mothers. With a deep commitment to honouring this significant loss, they bring expertise, shared experiences and a unique perspective on one of life's most precious and enduring relationships. Their mission is to connect and inform women and girls whose mothers have died, by supporting them through life's journey as they navigate every day, including life's milestones, without their mum. They are a NFP, that has continued to work tirelessly through the pandemic, to ensure they continue to grow their reach to the millions of women who are without their mothers. This week we also wanted to highlight another great cause (as mentioned in our preamble), from our former guest, Erin. She and her husband Dave are taking part in the City 2 Surf raising money for Epilepsy Australia. To donate visit lululoveproject.com.For those in NSW, enjoy freedom week. This week we sit down with Zara Seidler, Co-Founder of The Daily Aus, and her mother Debbie. The two strong women share their stories and relationship with us! Zara is the youngest of 4, with 3 older brothers, and has always been assertive, independent and proud of her family heritage. Debbie, a practising lawyer, raised her children to be great thinkers, push the envelope, and always remember their family unit. Zara's career started in politics and then took a slight turn, seeing a gap in the market to bring news to millennials! Short, sharp and to the point, with a focus on getting young people engaged in news and current affairs, over the usual mediums of the nightly news or newspapers (even digital versions). Debbie was behind Zara all the way, knowing that whatever she set out to achieve she would. The backbone of their strength and drive comes from Debbie's mother, three generations of strong Hungarian Women, who aren't afraid to speak their minds! We also speak about Zara's time away in Washington DC, and well as the rising success of The Daily Aus. When you look at Briony Benjamin, she exudes joy, happiness and is the picture of health - bright lip, a smile on her face, a tan! But all of that was masking how she truly felt inside, and what went unnoticed for the better part of a year. After terrible night sweats and fatigue, her mother insisted she sees a specialist. Her mother intuition told her to fly down to Sydney for the appointment, thankfully she was there to hold Briony's hand when she received her diagnosis, Hodgkin's lymphoma. Briony had been working at MamaMia as a video producer, a dream job, a million girls or boys would want. But she had to stop all of that after her diagnosis, to start an IVF plan, chemo to focus on herself and her health. Briony, along with Denise, decided to battle cancer with a smile, and a bold red lip, because WHY NOT?! Years later, she is now CANCER FREE, and sharing her story with her new guide book 'Life Is Tough But So Are You' - we would highly recommend it, it will help get you through a health battle, a pandemic, homeschooling, the works!!! We hope you enjoy, Briony and Denise. Follow us on Instagram and don't forget to DM if you have a story that you would like to share. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Paula Joye, is an icon in the publishing world...she was at the helm of some of Australia's biggest fashion and beauty magazines, Cleo, Shop til You Drop, Madison magazines. She knows a thing or two about style and beauty, but more importantly, she knows how to have fun! As she continues her career as a digital creator for her website, The Joye. This week, we had the joy, pun intended to speak with Paula and her eldest daughter Ella. From what was supposed to be a career in Law, as Paula says, she turned left and entered the doors of Vogue magazine. The mecca, for anyone who wants to be in magazines. She started from the bottom and worked her way up to the top, she reminisces of the days when magazines were at their peak and how turning left again when the digital wave hit, was the best thing she did! No surprise, her daughter, Ella, has found her passion in fashion, creating her own label, My Friends Are Yours. Selling out her first collection in minutes!! She's learned great life lessons from Paula's worth ethic, but also the fact that Paula was an extremely hands on mother, made their bond and relationship even stronger. And of course, having been in magazines myself, we had to talk about The Devil Wears Prada, and forgive my fan-girl moments but Paula was an idol in the halls of ACP Magazines. This interview was a real JOY, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did! Part 2 of our chat with Helen and Ariel, from The Babes Project. Experiencing a crisis pregnancy would often render a young mother of 20 years old feeling helpless and alone. And for Helen, this could have been the case, if she didn't have the support of two women, they weren't mothers, but wanted to help. Helen turned this experience of support and kindness to return the favour to thousands of women around Australia. She started off helping at the hospital, where she gave birth to Ariel, but they soon realised this wasn't enough. And after years of working, having another baby, Ariel's sister Payton, in 2009 she founded The Babes Project. The Babes Project is changing the way Australians approach crisis pregnancy by supporting women in the perinatal period. They support mothers who have and are experiencing a crisis pregnancy, whether that is because of a lack of support, abuse, drug addiction and homelessness.Ariel, 21, is now at university herself, studying politics and law, and has also joined the Babes Project, to help her mum and the team. She is extremely level headed and admits she helps focus her mums "cloud ideas"! She is also the driving force behind their social channels, getting her mum out of her comfort zone, for the greater good. Getting the message out there about The Babes Project, and taking away the stigma of having a younger mother. If you have a Mother/Daughter story you would like to share, please head to our Instagram page and send us a DM or you can email mothersanddaughterspod@gmail.com.Have a lovely week, don't forget to call your mum! PART ONE: This week, we chat with Helen Parker OAM and her daughter Ariel. Helen's university experience took a turn when in her first year, aged 19, she realised she was pregnant. She didn't have the support from family at the time, so turned to two women who themselves hadn't been mothers but helped Helen through her pregnancy, birth and for many months after Ariel was born. Her experience as a young mum, and experiencing a crisis pregnancy made her realise that there were other mothers in her position and she wanted to do what she could to help. She started off helping at the hospital, where she gave birth to Ariel, but they soon realised this wasn't enough. And after years of working, having another baby, Ariel's sister Payton, in 2009 she founded The Babes Project. This week we sit down together, just the two of us to answer the burning questions you had for us! We start off by answering "How and Why we came up with the Mothers and Daughters podcast?" The biggest reason is that Deanne was always the sounding board for Jordana, who was always desperate to have her own podcast. So who better to join her than her number one hype-woman her mum. So far we've had a ball speaking with other mothers and daughters about their ups and downs, successes and bounce-backs from falling. The biggest takeaway is being able to connect mothers and daughters during lockdown, who haven't had a chance to have a really deep and meaningful conversation with their mother. We chat through everything from our favourite movies to some of the tougher questions, like "what is the hardest time we have ever gone through" - thank you for submitting your questions and of course, for LISTENING, RATING, REVIEWING and SUBSCRIBING. We didn't expect the overwhelmingly positive feedback and joy this brings to people and we thank you and hope you continue on our journey. Many of you will be familiar with The Wiggles, whether it's from your childhood, your kids or your grandkids, and this week we got to chat with Emma Watkins aka Emma Wiggle and her mum Kathryn. She joined the lineup many years ago as the Yellow Wiggle! We hear all about Emma's childhood, the families love of animals, their connection to the matriarch of the family, Kathryn's mother and more! Emma truly is as calming in person (virtually) as she is on the screen or stage. There is no wonder children across the globe love her and want to be her! Kathryn, the always positive mother, supported Emma's dreams to be on the stage and screen. Turning rejection into a laughing and teachable moment, which helped Emma pick herself up and try again. Even though Emma missed out on her dream to be in the theatre production of Cats, she landed on her feet and became the first female Wiggle, paving the way for the Wiggles to now grow their family even further! Both Emma & Kathryn were extremely open about Emma's diagnosis and surgery due to endometriosis! She was back in the Wiggles studio after 6 weeks - with Kathryn bringing her soup and sitting by her bedside, along with her sister. Despite the geographical distance between them, they connect, do the quiz from the paper via zoom, and exchange dog and horse photos. It was an absolute pleasure to speak with Emma & Kathryn - we're now BFFs with Kathryn - and will have them back on with Emma's sister very soon! If you have a Mother/Daughter relationship you would like to share, please reach out via Instagram or on the website! We'd love to hear from you. Cass Spies started her career in Financial Services, but when she became a mother, she completely took a complete twist on what she was doing. All while surrounded by strong supportive women and having three, yes three kids! Her mother Brownyn is the proud mother of 3 gorgeous women including Cass and devoted ‘Nanna' to 3 grandchildren. Bronwyn worked in high schools in the Food Technology arena for 20 years (it was called Home Economics in her day..!) Bronwyn, has recently retired from her work, after 28 years as a volunteer board member for Ronald McDonald Children's and was awarded an OAM in 2015 for her services. Mikayla Holmgren was born premmie, having her chord wrapped around her neck, her doctors said that she would never walk or talk. But seeing her today, she is determined, confident and exudes happiness! She is the first woman with Down Syndrome to run in a state Miss USA pageant. She wasn't successful in 2020, but looks back on it with suck joy and admiration, and is back in the running in 2021. She has taken her capabilities and brought joy and levity to the pageant world. After her run for Miss Minnesota, she decided to enter Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition, after starting to model from an early age. Her success and achievements are supported by her mum and family, they have given her the love and opportunity to model and enter pageants, never letting her disability stop her. Sandi is the most incredible mother, who finds such joy and pride in watching Mikayla on stage. Sandi acknowledges that she had wonderful women around her to help embrace Mikayla's abilities. She also didn't realise that the pageant Mikayla had entered was in fact the Miss USA pageant, assuming that due to Mikayla disability, they wouldn't take her on. Mikayla never gave up and never wanted to quit, learning to walk in heels, and learning dance routines.Backstage, what was really inspiring, Mikayla was lifting them up and encouraging them through their disappointments. She brings her smile to every stage she's on and when she has a setback she says, "there's always next year." We are waiting for the results of this year's pageant to see how Mikayla will do in the Miss USA pageant. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Part2: Erin gives an update on Luella's current condition, we delve into the relationship and support Erin and Wendy give to each other. She is making meeting milestones that, in her original prognosis, wasn't possible thanks in large part to Erin and the wonderful intense therapies she goes to at NAPA.Wendy is a very hands-on grandmother and mother, which has helped Erin through her postnatal depression. She allows Erin and her husband Dave, a night off now and again, which is essential for any parent, let alone parents who have to manage the added stresses of Luella's condition. As Erin says "Luella isn't a burden, it's her seizures that are a burden!"There were many tears during this episode, but Erin has always been happy to push through the tears, so that, as a mum, and also as Luella's voice, she is heard. There needs to be more research and funding into West Syndrome and give parents and guardians more support through NDIS.This conversation is a two-part episode, tune in next week for the second half of this conversation with an amazing mother and daughter. Thank you again to Erin and Wendy for sharing their story and being the most amazing advocates for Luella. If you have an amazing story to share with us, please DM or email. When hearing what Erin Molan does in a day, you have to ask, I don't know how she does it? Her childhood alone, involved attending 16 schools, as her father Jim Molan was station around the world. Spending a great deal of time in Indonesia as a young girl, she leant from an early age about giving back to the community and thanks to her mother, Anne's guidance, an appreciation for what they were lucky to have. Anne, put her career aside, to raise her 4 kids, quite often single-handedly. But she never complained, she appreciated the roof that the army had put over their heads! Despite her "rebellious" phase, borrowing her dad's army vehicle, getting caught smoking. Erin has a heart of gold and goes into battle for those who need her. Erin, has recently taken her Online Bullying Bill to parliament and it passed, so now those bullies, who post online, can be held accountable for their actions. All while doing morning radio on TodayFM, Sports Commentating on Channel 9, running a kids-clothing brand, and raising her daughter Eliza. All in a day's work for Erin. After Sarah (Erin's sister) cancer battle, the Molan family are truly a family unit, and now they have come back together again to support her father, Jim's cancer battle. This chat gets a bit emotional towards the end. If you have a story you want to share, want to sponsor a show, send us a DM via Instagram or email mothersanddaughterspod@gmail.com. Tracey and Loris both have given back in their lives to multiple charities, worked hard, and their bond has never been unbroken. The three generations have at times lived under one roof together, bringing the bond of Loris and her grandkids to a closeness that most grandchildren don't get to experience. We were so grateful for Loris & Tracey for their time and honesty when this subject matter wouldn't have been a topic of conversation during the 1960s.Tune in next week for the conclusion of this amazing chat. Meet Michelle & Tam, a mother and daughter who have a close and connected bond. Raised in Perth, Tam now calls Sydney home. COVID made it very difficult for their families to get together, but thankfully Tam's wedding to Jono in April of this year brought their family back together. WARNING: this conversation does get emotional, especially if you have been separated from your mother or daughter for an extended period of time. We also debrief about 'Just Like That' the reboot of Sex and the City, our favourite show. Tam holds a Masters in Clinical Psychology and has trained at prestigious clinics in Beverly Hills, California, while simultaneously seeing dozens of clients weekly in private practice in Los Angeles. Prior to this, Tam worked in branding and social media and ran brand media endorsements for talent such as the Kardashians and Jenners. Fascinated by the human condition, and the Psyche of the Soul, Tam possesses a strong will to support each female individual on their journey, and meet them wherever they are on their path. Tam offers one-on-one sessions which weave the wisdom of many modalities. Michelle still lives in Perth, her three girls, live in Sydney, Melbourne and London. She keeps busy as a pilates instructor; while also being a huge support for her girls and grandkids albeit virtually, for now. There's no other way of describing these two other than, OG Foodies! Their passion for cooking (and teaching!) started from a very early age for both Railea and Melissa. They both taught home economics at TAFE and have always had a love of food, which they share with their families, and the wider community. They have always been adventurous when it comes to food, in their cooking, but also where they eat out...not to give it away, but Mel's kids started solids at Yum Cha! Even after having children, both Railea and Melissa found a way to keep their passion for cooking alive. Melissa started Mia Cucina (miacucina.com.au), which initially started as cooking classes from her kitchen, now runs food tours from exploring Vietnamese foods to Turkish delights. Railea has only recently retired, due to COVID, but after this chat, we think she should write a cookbook as a family heirloom! Full disclosure and you will know from the outset that we know Railea and Mel very well. Railea is Deanne's Aunty, and over the years, we quite often will ask them for advice and recipes! Thanks for listening and don't forget to rate and review. This week, we speak with Jaimie Bloch from Mind Movers Psychology, a group and individual therapist. We wanted to chat with her to help our listeners who might be going through a rough patch with their mother, daughter, mother-in-law, or daughter-in-law. There are times that mothers and daughters find themselves in conflict, and sadly the longer the rift goes on, the harder it can be to resolve. We hope that this sheds some light on how to take the first step to resolution. Truthfully, the techniques that Jaimie talks through can be applied to any family conflicts. If you've been separated from your mum or daughter because of the pandemic and you're unable to travel, Jaimie also has great advice to ensure your bond stays strong during these times where we can't physically be together. Thank you to our listeners who submitted their questions for Jaimie. If you would like her to come back to answer some more of your questions, please send us a DM on Instagram. We find her methods and voice extremely calming!Thank you again for listening, we are so grateful that you do. Don't forget to rate and review. See you next week. Welcome to Mothers and Daughters!! We are so excited to have you join us on this journey. We are your hosts, Deanne (mother) and Jordana (daughter), we have a close bond and wonderful relationship, as mother and daughter, but we also consider each other, our best friends. Each week, we will bring you stories from other Mothers and Daughters, who have a bond worth sharing. I'm Deanne a mum of 2 and "Dede" (grandmother) of 2. I've been an interior designer for over 40 years, both residential and commercial. Despite working full-time, when my daughter, Jordana, told me about her podcast, I was so excited about it, and even more excited when I realised I was going to co-host! I'm Jordana, a mum to two boys, Cooper and Mason, starting a podcast has been a dream for many years, and when I finally came up with the idea of Mothers and Daughters I couldn't wait to start! With a background in journalism and social media management, this was the perfect fit. And what made it even better? That I could co-host with (one of) my favourite people, my mum! Follow us on Instagram @mothersanddaughterspod. If you have a Mother/Daughter relationship that you would like to share, send us a DM or email with your story! Don't forget to call your Mum!!
