This week on Oversharing we reminisce about "The Saddle Club" and our general thoughts on and experiences with horses. We're sharing tales of animal aversion and ranching romances that never quite took off, and we promise you'll be reaching for your headphones faster than you can say 'giddy up.'The focus of the week is voicemails and emails, but we get a few of Greg's Reads in this week before we tackle everything from managing health and energy levels to the trials of meal planning with a picky toddler. We get to a definitive breakfast food hierarchy and get into the delicate dance of cohabitation and relationships. Whether it's navigating expectations and timelines in long-term partnerships or tips and tricks on wedding planning and registries - there's something for everyone on this episode. And for a dash of frivolity, we're hashing out the comical disputes over misheard song lyrics that keep marriage interesting. So, settle in for a dose of laughs, life lessons, and a touch of reality from your friends at Oversharing. If you've got a voicemail or want our (likely unqualified) advice on something, hit us up at the Speakpipe link below!http://www.speakpipe.com/oversharingwiththeoverbysIf you'd like to email us you can reach the pod at oversharing@jojohnsonoverby.com!CONNECT:TikTok: @jojohnsonoverby / @matt.overbyInstagram: @jojohnsonoverby / @matt.overbyWebsite: https://jojohnsonoverby.com/Watch the Podcast: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL29Si0ylWz2qj5t6hYHSCxYkvZCDGejGq

From real life Horse Girls like Bella Hadid and TikTok #HorseGirls to book and tv icons like The Saddle Club, Horse Girls are everywhere. It's long been a trope both on screen and in real life – you probably knew a Horse Girl growing up, or maybe you were the Horse Girl. The trope often splits in two directions: the bratty rich-girl equestrian and the tough and free spirited outcast true horse girl. Both types usually end up getting mocked, though for different reasons. And they both have important lessons to teach all of us, even if we don't know the first thing about horses. So saddle up and let's jump into this trope! Click here to watch the video version of this episode!

How did she transition from being an actress to working as a coach and fitness instructor getting the most out of people. Hold your horses, folks, the Saddle Club are visiting a dude ranch in West Dakota! Things get real problematic real fast, everyone eats a lot of steak, and there's a blessed lack of romance. Oh, and they cause a death or whatever. On today's itinerary: we issue a much-needed apology; essential cow terminology; the manliest sundae possible; dying a dude's death; some overwhelming rhinophobia; Stevie hijacks a dog funeral; the junior podcaster yells at a boat; tfw you realise you're not a dude any more, ten times in the space of a week; a salute to a Dublin institution; we fail to learn anything about pommels; gifts you should not bring to a motherless calf; things that are vaguely conical; grudging respect for DAYS; Aoife does some estate planning. Today's musical selections were “Saloon Spitoon” and “Back On The Wagon” by John Bartmann on the Free Music Archive. If you like our show, tell a friend, rate and review on your podcast app of choice, and come say hi on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr or Instagram! We also have a ko-fi and we're real self-conscious about it!

Lizzy Hershberger grew up Swartzentruber Amish in southern Minnesota, and still lives in Amish bluff country where she and her husband of 24 years raised four children. Lizzy is the cofounder of Voices of Hope, a national support network for women, and speaks at their conventions and conferences. She has also served as president of her children's 4-H Club, the Saddle Club, and as an Awana Leader, and School Board member. She testified as a former Amish expert witness and helped win a major case for her county that resulted in a cleaner environment for the community. Most recently, Lizzy's story was featured in the February 2020 issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine. At 15, Lizzy was cast out of her strict Swartzenstruber Amish community for being the victim of sexual assault and set out to find a better life. Twenty eight years later, she embarked on a search for her biological father and found herself on a journey that led to national news coverage, as well as a memoir, and most importantly, deep emotional and spiritual healing. Like many women, Lizzy spent a lifetime caring for others and ensuring her children would have a better life than her own. In 2017, when an injury forced her to slow down, Lizzy found her mother's diaries, then her own, and began to process memories she'd tried to leave behind. Yet she couldn't leave behind the Amish children in her community who are forced to abandon school for unpaid, live-in domestic work, and who still sit in church with known sexual abusers. Lizzy decided to come forward, and in 2019 Chriss Stutzmann, a deacon in the Amish church, was sentenced on charges of child sexual abuse. Through telling her story, Lizzy has turned dark periods of suicidal episodes, deep depression and anxiety, into stepping stones of recovery, living in gratitude and opportunities to make a difference. Through sharing her story, she was able to release the old Amish habits and beliefs that no longer serve her while remaining grateful for the positive experiences Amish life provided, including a love for gardening, hiking, horseback riding, listening to thunder and rain, and reading. Lizzy's memoir, Behind Blue Curtains was published by Nauset Press in March of 2021. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/otcpod1/support

In our first episode, we sit down with Wendy Strehlow and her daughter Sophie Hensser, they both found their passions for acting at a young age, and have since gone on to great successes. Wendy is best known for her role in A Country Practice and was awarded a Logie in 1985. She has also appeared in, E Street, Blue Heelers, McLeod's Daughters, Home and Away, A Step in the Right Direction and The Saddle Club. She has appeared in numerous stage productions including, The Greening of Grace, Henry IV, The Memory of Water, Travesties and the Pulitzer prize-winning production, Clybourne Park. Sophie, in 2009, began appearing in a guest role on Home and Away, followed by other Australian shows such as All Saints, Underbelly, Crownies and Tricky Business. More recently, she had a lead role in Love Child. Sophie is a mum of two, and both are still acting on both the silver screen and in theatre. Bookworms, it's time to secure your tracking bracelet - sorry I mean your "Well Band" - because we're about to dive into The Farm, the debut novel by Filipino American author Jane Ramos. Set inside Golden Oaks, a baby farm in Massachusetts where women (especially immigrants) serve as surrogates for super-wealthy clients, The Farm reads not so much as dystopia, but as a plausible next step on our capitalist journey. With a super interesting premise, and a whole lot of buzz, we were very excited to read this one. Come and find out what we thought was good, what we thought was missing, and what we thought of Ben's emoji choice. Happy Listening! ----- Tell us what you think about the book! Or the podcast! Ariel appeared in several Australian theatre productions, including The Lion King, The Sound of Music, Oedipus, Annie and she played the role of Florence in IMG's production of Oliver.Ariel's first major television role came in 2007, when she starred on hit TV series The Saddle Club and then later played the role of Imogen Willis on Neighbours. Today Ari is the ultimate fitness guru who spends her days as a pilates instructor, PT and she's leading the charge on the bikes at Melbourne's favourite spin class.Born into a family of uber successful performers, Ariel's upbringing seems like a movie script. Humble, kind and absolutely gorgeous both inside and out, this woman is a total joy to be around. But Ariel definitely hasn't gone through life without her own personal struggles.Meeting us at the beautiful This Is Life Family Wellness Emporium nestled in the heart of Elwood, we sit down with this happy soul and delve into a conversation about career changes and finding jobs that truly make your heart happy, and we chat openly and honestly about her early struggles with an eating disorder.Sit back and enjoy because this young lady has an epic story to tell.

Comedian Teresa Coyne joins Alan and Ellen to talk about the lesser-known but actually quite good YA series The Saddle Club. It was kind of an equine Babysitter’s Club. Teresa was a fan, Alan’s now a convert, Ellen was jetlagged. A good time was had by all. We learn all about the Saddle Club and Teresa's own history with horses stopping along the way to learn the history of dressage, horse maintenance, helicopter schools, moving from London to the West of Ireland, Dustin the Turkey, car boot sales, old Irish methods for warding off faerie folk, aristocratic French shoe customs, ghostwriters, the majesty of Bonnie Bryant, disappointing TV adaptations, and lots of other stuff. It's a good one. We liked Teresa a lot, you will too.
