In this episode, Erin Olson discusses how the position of our heart toward God reveals the posture of our heart toward God. If you were to rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being not good and 10 being great), how would you rate your relationship with God right now? God desires a positional relationship with each one of us. This episode elaborates on the physical positions of our hearts and how it affects our relationship with God and others. Like sunflowers who track east to west when young (heliotropism), we often get to a place where we feel spiritually mature and stay facing east and fail to track toward God continually day in and day out throughout season to season. Scriptures refererenced: Genesis 4:24, "After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life." Genesis 4:16, "Then Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden." Genesis 13:11, "So Lot chose for himself all the valley of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed eastward. Thus they separated from each other." Ezekiel 17:10, "Even if it is transplanted, will it thrive? Will it not wither completely when the east wind strikes it - wither away in the plot where it grew?" Transcripts of this episode are available at http://www.sandalfeet.org/thedepotpodcast. In this episode, Erin Olson discusses why it is so important to keep a level head even when those around you aren't and are ignoring what you have to say. In 2 Timothy chapter 4, Paul knows his life is close to being at the end. Erin challenges her listeners with the question, "Is your life preparing you for death?" as she lists all the things Paul does in his final days. Are there relationships that need to be reconciled? Who needs to hear the Gospel preached to them? Who are you thankful for? Who do you want by your side and what do you want with you? Second Timothy challenges each one of us to do the work not just for ourselves, but for all of those who need to hear what the Lord has to say. In this epsiode, Erin Olson discusses why it is so hard to be a Christian today during times when people are seeking pleasure more than they are seeking God. Erin continues in her teaching series of 2 Timothy and discusses Paul's charge to Timothy in chapter 3. Love of Pleasure: controlled by self, obtained easily, benefits us now, narcotic effect, cooperates with pride Love of God: God can't be controlled, often requires effort and sacrifice, often benefits us in the future but not immediately, reminds us of our needs and responsibilities, must lay aside our pride and accomplishments Warning to all: watch out for false teachers Sin and wrong will always be exposed. In this episode, Erin Olson discusses how if Jesus walked into a drag queen reading hour, He would know exactly what to say because He would know His audience. And, so should we. Erin continues in the book of 2 Timothy 2. In chapter 2 Paul is speaking to Timothy and encouraging him to persevere despite the odds against him. Regardless of what people are saying or what is going on in the world, Paul instructed Timothy (and believers) to stay above the chatter and focus on the gospel mission. Listen to these timeless truths and be encouraged and inspired to go out and share the Gospel with the lost. In this episode, Erin Olson discussuses the importance of the Church not forgetting about Pentecost. So many churches are failing to not only celebrate Pentecost on the date of its observance, but are also failing to help believers understand the importance of the third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit. People and churches who fail to tap into the power of the Holy Spirit are no different than an electric car sitting in a garage with a power supply station set up on the wall, but never gets hooked up to the power supply. The car doesn't work as it should because it doesn't have power. Believers who don't understand what the Holy Spirit offers are no different. Once people understand what Jesus meant when He said He had to leave so the Helper would come (John 16:7), they will understand the Holy Spirit is the Helper who Jesus knew we would need. Scriptures used: Matthew 12:34-36, John 3:8 Matthew 10:19-20, Luke 12:11-12 Matthew 12:31-32, Mark 3:28-29 Luke 24:45 Acts 1:4-5 Acts 4:23-31 Acts 8 Galatians 5:17 Ephesians 4:3 1 Thessalonians 5:19
In this episode, Erin discusses the defintion of evil and the tragic events which took place in Uvalde, Texas this past week. She discusses where evil came from and how Christians can navigate reaching those who are hurting, sad, angry, and need help. Christians shouldn't run and hide while the world is suffering, and instead should be the hands and feet of Jesus through prayer and action. Christians should always be in motion to share the Good News of the Gospel. As more and more people are exposed to the love of Christ, more and more spiritual orphans will be adopted into the family of Christ. As this happens, the Holy Spirit will do the transformative work of changing hearts. She challenges believers in prayer at the end so take a listen! In this episode, Erin Olson discusses Paul's second letter to Timothy, including the first chapter (2 Timothy 1), and effective ways for Christian leaders to get through tough times. Paul knew he was nearing death as he sat isolated from people in his prison cell in Rome, but he wanted to send his final words of encouragement to Timothy. Paul wanted to remind Timothy of his calling and to not give up. Paul reminded Timothy of these three things as it related to leadership during tough times. 1) Leaders have power through the Holy Spirit 2) Leaders have the ability to love even those who hate them through the Holy Spirit 3) Leaders have the ability to be self-disciplined through the Holy Spirit Paul knew Timothy needed encouragement to stay strong, but for many of you today, you need a word of encouragement as well. In this episode, Erin Olson discusses the issue of "Self" as it relates to the current hot topics in our culture war today. To die to self is what the Lord asks of each Christian. As we surrender, we learn what it means to love God and love others...which has very little self in it. However, when one lives too much for self, there are consequences which don't just affect the person making the choice, it affects others. Erin mentions the possible overturning of Roe v. Wade and how self plays in to the issue of life and choice. In this episode, Erin Olson discusses how guarding your motives and heart reduces the risk of messing it all up in ministry. Erin finishes up the book of 1 Timothy. In Chapter 6, Paul continues to his instruction for Timothy, including how important it is for Timothy to guard his motives and to remember the importance of the Gospel. This chapter was an encouragement to Timothy, but it is also useful information for us today because we face the same obstacles, false teaching, and heart issues the people in Ephesus faced. In this episode, Erin Olson discusses how the Church family should not be dsyfunctional in caring for itself and for others. If the Church continues to look like an example of a dysfunctional family, the Church will lose its effectiveness in not only caring for those within the Church but also lose its effectiveness in reaching the unsaved. In this episode, Erin Olson discusses the highest value God places on the Church. There is no greater influence in all the world than the Church. This high value should influence the way we live and do life with those within the Church as well as those who are not members of Christ's Church. Episode show notes: In today's podcast, Erin Olson discusses the high value God places on the Church. There is no greater influence in all the world than the Church. This high value should influence the way we live and do life with those within the Church as well as those who are not members of Christ's Church. Significance of the Church 1. We are God's family 2. We are the dwelling place of God's presence 3. We are guardians of God's Word 4. We have the privilege and responsibility of preserving God's Word 5. In this episode, Erin Olson discusses why church leadership matters as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-13. More important than charisma, stage presence, number of followers, and size of one's ministry is character. Church leaders are called to be leaders who serve and run their households well. When Christian leaders struggle and fall, it doesn't happen overnight. This chapter outlines how elders and deacons should behave in their positions. It also helps non-leaders within the Church know what to look for in a biblical leader. Elders = servant leaders Deacons = leading servants The offices of elders (overseers, pastors) and deacons vary in roles, however, both are to be complimentary toward one another as they support the Church. Elders 1. Lead under the authority of Christ 2. Care for the body of Christ 3. Teach the Word of God 4. Model the character of Christ Deacons 1. Meet the needs of the Church according to the Word 2. Support the ministry of the Word 3. Unify the body around the Word For downloadable notes on 1 Timothy 3:1-13, click HERE. In this episode, Erin Olson discusses three things every Christian must for for the Gospel, and begins her teaching series on 1 Timothy. 1 Timothy was a personal letter written by the Apostle Paul to Timothy. Not only was it a personal letter, it serves as a handbook of church administration and doctrine. It was useful and encouraging for Timothy in his day, and it continues to be useful and encouraging in our day today. In this episode, Erin Olson asks the question, “Is Yellow Teaching to blame for the problems we are seeing today in the Church and the need for so many to jump on the Deconstruction bandwagon?” Deconstruction is a hot word right now in some Christian circles, and we are seeing how different teaching effects the minds of Christ followers. People are claiming they want to fix the current cultural church by deconstructing what it is so they can reconstruct something they want. What happens when we change the word "love" to the word "give"? This episode gets to the heart of God's love. Often times changing the word in a directive doesn't change the meaning; it simply provides clarity to the task. The two greatest commands Jesus said are Love God; love others. What exactly is love and how can we turn it into action? In this episode, Erin Olson speaks with Crystal Buck, owner of Everlasting (home inspired goods). We talk a lot about God equipping you for your calling, even if it looks different than what you thought you would be doing. We talk about owning and operating a small business, especially a business that relies on social media for getting the word out. We also discuss how not every Christian business is being cancelled on social media and hear how Crystal's is actually expanding. Not only does she run a small business, she is a wife and mom. The biggest take away from my discussion with Crystal is a reminder that each one of us can positively impact our community, including our social media community. In this episode, Erin discusses five ways to grow in your faith in 2022 and elaborates on the word the Lord has given her for 2022, “Growth.” As Christians, we should continually be growing and maturing in the Lord. In this episode, Erin Olson discusses the importance of knowing the difference between waiting and looking. This is important not just in your own life, but in the lives of others. Key Verses: “Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.” (Luke 2:25) “Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.” (Luke 2:38) prosdechomal (Greek) – to await (with confidence and patience), to expect, to look for Much different than the passive definition for the English word “wait.” Website: For more resources and to sign up to receive Erin's weekly ministry newsletter, visit Erin Olson's ministry website, Sandalfeet Ministries, at http://www.sandalfeet.org/. In this episode, Erin Olson recounts a recent experience where she had to ask herself this question, “Are you ready to die?” Death is inevitable, and it is all around us. We can't avoid it, but we must address it. Things to Think About: Have you personally addressed the issue of your salvation? Do you have things in order? What more could you be doing in the time you have? Verses: “None is righteous, no, not one.” (Romans 3:10) “I saw a great white throne and the one sitting on it…And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books.” (Revelation 20:11-12) “God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ.” (Ephesians 1:5) Website: For more resources and to sign up to receive Erin's weekly ministry newsletter, visit Erin Olson's ministry website, Sandalfeet Ministries, at http://www.sandalfeet.org/. In this episode, Erin Olson discusses Acts 28 and how the Christian life is all about the spread of the Gospel. Our goal as Christians is not to build our name or fortunes, but to share His name with those who need Him. This last chapter of Acts reminds us that our lives are not about us, but all about Him. In this episode, Erin Olson discusses how sometimes God uses the accidents and disasters in life (like shipwrecks and sandbars) to preserve life as she continues her teaching series in the book of Acts chapter 27. In chapter 27, Paul, under the supervision of a centurion and aided by a couple of his friends, is put on a ship to Rome. Along the way, the ship encounters a horrible Nor'easter and is battered and broken. Miraculously, everyone survives. Paul received a message from the Lord during the storm about the preservation of life. It encouraged him and he used the word to encourage the others. Things to Think About: Think of a time you found yourself in a storm. How did you feel during it? What did you do? If you've survived a storm, how did it change you? Did it change your relationship with the Lord? FREE DOWNLOAD: 30 Days of Prayer for America prayer guide https://sandalfeet.org/prayer. In this episode, Erin Olson asks the question, "If you were put on trial today, what would the charges be?" as continues her series in the book of Acts (Chapters 24, 25, and 26). In these chapters, Paul stands trial first before the governor, Felix and then in front of Festus. His case was then also heard in front of King Herod Agrippa II (the last of the Herod dynasty). None of them could find that Paul was guilty of anything and would have turned him loose except for the fact they wanted to find favor with the Jews (Felix was a political hack and was looking for a bribe) and Paul had requested to be heard by Caesar. Given that he was kept as a prisoner, the transport to Rome as a prisoner would be the means in which God got Paul to Rome. The continual sharing of the Gospel and the conviction brought on those who weren't Christians by the Holy Spirit, brought a range of emotions to Paul's listeners. Some were angered, some were frustrated, some were fearful, and some were callous. Each time Paul spoke, the people who were listening had their sins exposed in some manner. As A.W. Tozer said, “Not death but sin should be our great fear.” Things to Think About: Think of a time you were “put on trial” even though there were no charges against you and/or you were not found guilty of doing anything wrong other than being a Christian. What was the outcome? If you have never been called out for your faith, why? Are you actively engaging in sharing the Gospel with people? Or, have you isolated yourself amongst other Christians? What, if anything, can you do differently going forward? FREE DOWNLOAD: 30 Days of Prayer for America prayer guide https://sandalfeet.org/prayer. In this episode, Erin Olson continues her series in the book of Acts and discusses how God is in control of all of life's events. In chapter 23, Paul stands trial before the Sanhedrin. They believe his guilt before he has a chance for a trial. They become so enraged at him, the Roman commander believes the people may tear Paul to pieces. A group of people plot to kill Paul, and God uses Paul's nephew as a messenger of this plan to not only Paul, but also to the commander in charge. God uses the Roman army to transport Paul to Caesarea to stand before the governor, Felix. Acts 23 exposes us to humanity, humility and hope. Key verse – verse 11: “The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, ‘Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must go and also testify in Rome.'” Takeaways: Trust God. Jesus is with you even if you don't see visions or hear voices. God uses secular government to protect the peace and save lives from anarchy. Be grateful – God knows your successes and your failures. In this episode, Erin Olson continues her series in the book of Acts as she discusses obedience and pain and suffering. In chapters 21 and 22, we see Paul heading to Jerusalem against the advice of the disciples. Paul wasn't being disobedient to the Holy Spirit nor was he being disrespectful to the disciples. Paul simply knew the Holy Spirit wanted him to go to Jerusalem despite the fact he would endure pain and suffering. We can't give in when we are scared or people are scared for us. Our purpose needs to be seen through if we want to remain obedient to the Spirit. Use the opportunity God gives to you to share the Gospel and your testimony. You never know what kind of impact this will have on people. Don't hold back! Takeaways: Our desire to be obedient to God should overshadow our desire to avoid suffering and hardship. Find common ground with your audience. They will listen better if you do. Our testimony has power and we must share it. In this episode, Erin Olson asks the question, "Is all that you do worth it?" as she continues her teaching in the book of Acts chapter 14. Facing persecution, including harassment and stoning, was something the early disciples experienced. Yet, they didn't let any of it stop them from sharing the Good News. They persevered at all costs because everything they did for the Gospel was worth it. Every life, every healing, every miracle, every new church birthed...all of it was worth it because they knew it was what they were called to do. In this episode, Erin Olson continues her teaching in the book of Acts chapter 13 and reminds us it is the Holy Spirit who sends us to people and we need to know our audience. The Holy Spirit is capable of doing many things and He often leads us to others who need to know about salvation. Being able to discern the Holy Spirit is critical as well as knowing Scripture. It is also important to know who your audience is because everyone will respond to different things. FREE DOWNLOAD: 30 Days of Prayer for America prayer guide https://sandalfeet.org/prayer. In this episode, Erin Olson continues her teaching in the book of Acts chapter 12 and reminds us to never stop praying and believing God will move. We sometimes wrongly believe that the outcome is always reliant upon our prayers. This just isn't true. Our prayers matter to God, yes, but whether He answers them the way we want them answered or not, He gets to decide the outcome. Be an active, prayerful participant. You just never know how God is going to move. FREE DOWNLOAD: 30 Days of Prayer for America prayer guide https://sandalfeet.org/prayer. In this episode, Erin Olson reminds us that confident obedience defends itself as she discusses Acts 11. Sometimes fellow believers will come at you because of something you have done that they don't like. Instead of arguing with them, especially if it is something you feel God has called you to do and you were acting out of obedience, simply replay the entire situation for them. In this episode, Erin Olson discusses Acts 6 & 7 and reminds us how we can care for the people who fall through the cracks. Little issues can become big issues when they are not properly addressed within the church. In this episode, Erin Olson discusses Acts 5 and all of the mistakes, miracles, and mouthpieces found throughtout the chapter. Luke demonstrated his meticulous detail in Acts 5. He carefully outlined both internal and external pressures on the early church. In this episode, Erin Olson discusses Acts 3 and advises the importance of seizing the opportunities God places in front of us. There are several key things that occurred during this chapter. Peter seized on a Holy Spirit moment, a lame man was healed, and Peter preached the Gospel. How would we respond today if we were Peter? Would we just move along because we didn't have any money or time for the beggar or would we stop to share what we, as Christians, do have? Have you ever felt like the beggar, especially as it relates to spiritual things? Have you been moved so greatly by someone else's faith that it caused yours to be ignited? This chapter highlights for us today that we need to make sure we are seizing opportunities to share the Gospel with those whom the Holy Spirit places in our path. Are we willing to give them what we have?
