Have you heard of Flight Club, Metro's Freo, Magnet House, The Lookout, Edison bar, The Breakwater, Amplifier, Loop & Print Hall? If you've been out partying in Perth in the last 20 years, then you have visited at least one of David's venues! The man behind many of Perth's most innovative bars, clubs, restaurants and entertainment venues sat down with us in the latest episode.We sat on the rooftop of Bob's Bar in the Print Hall complex which David has recently taken over. Above us was one GIANT Orange tree which we speak about over a pint of Swan & Guinness. We discuss David's beginnings which nearly saw him join the airforce, then after a dislocated shoulder he pivoted into starting up a mobile phone business which he scaled up and ended up selling at a very healthy profit. After sitting around "retired" for a couple of years, David got bored and started looking for the next business to build or buy. Accidentally he stumbled across Capital - a nightclub in which he never intended to purchase. Fast forward 19 years & he's just been inducted as a legend of Hospitality in the Australian Hotels Association.

This crazy man is running, jogging or walking 40km every day for 40 days in the hope to raise 40k for John Hunter's Children Hospital for his 40th birthday! He's over 3/4 the way through it & we discuss the pain he's been putting himself through. Juggling his injuries, managing his Newy Fried Chicken Business, being a father & husband - it has not been easy.We also wind the clock back to when he moved over to Perth in 2008 with his then fiancé. Going from bar tender to managing Gold Bar & then Purl in Subiaco, with the stories that came with it, one with 50 cent.Then setting up his own bar called The Good Shephard in Leederville & all the business lessons he gained from that experience. Breeana Smith's story is an inspiring one for the fashion industry here in Australia! She grew up in South Perth and didn't even finish her business degree, instead she worked in brand management. Fresh off the back of a clean sweep victory in the NBL finals. Fleur recounts what it's been like partying with the team this week & some highlights from the season. Making history as the first female to win a NBL championship ring. We also discuss Fleur's back story and how much hard work went into getting that opportunity when Luc Longley called her last year, asking her to apply for the job. Her career CV is something pretty impressive with a Bachelor of science at UWA , then a PHD in health science at Notre Dame where she was the discipline head of Exercise & Sports science for 12 years as well as a researcher, lecturer & academic. Fleur played 270 games for Cockburn Cougars, was the State WA captain under 18s & 20s winning 5 MVP awards. She has been a coach at the Perth lynx as well as the SBL commissioner. A really enjoyable chat with a lady who prides herself on taking a real interest & care for other human beings, whether that's her players on the court or students at Uni. She is living in the present & enjoying the coaching journey so far, excited to get back to her old stomping ground in Freo shortly for some well earned down time.

In season 4, episode 2 we sat down with Coach Keam.An impressive man with wisdom beyond his years, Ben Keam shares his journey from growing up in Tasmania to his passion for the health and fitness industry which led him to the Gold Coast, Melbourne, Bali and finally to settling here in Perth.But it has been a tough ride at times. After a scooter crash, termite-infested villa and difficulty securing jobs, he and his now fiancé, Bernadette, almost gave it all up whilst in Bali. A chance meeting with a tattooed entrepreneur in a boxing gym was the sliding door moment that turned it all around.Ben talks about the things he's learned along the way; both about himself and within the industry he is so passionate about. Ben has found boxing an amazing outlet for him, alongside boxing sessions, he has created a space for men to be vulnerable and talk about challenges going on in their own lives. An interesting look into the life of someone who hasn't necessarily done things by the book and who has had to rebuild and start afresh in a new city more than once, Ben's story is a must for anyone needing a little inspiration, or curious about starting their own business in the fitness industry.

In this episode we sit down & chat with the managing director of Total Containers. Kevin Cooper discusses how he got rejected from becoming a policeman & then tried to go to university before the Port's of Fremantle grabbed him. It was only suppose to be work during the summer break for a bit of extra cash but instead he worked his way from the bottom to the top of the Shipping industry in a few short years. Which lead him to moving overseas to become a Country Manager for the second largest shipping company in the world with his wife & 3 children under 4. Then a big life decision was made & he gave it all away to become a self employed operator to move back to WA. Along with his business partner Greg Fleay they created a container transport business & grew it to the 4th largest in WA which they have recently sold for a healthy figure. On top of this another creation was born in Sea Containers WA in 2008 & then the financial crisis hit which threw everything upside-down. Kevin discusses how they pivoted & managed to make their business still viable, which he attributes to some of the businesses success today.If you are into self development, entrepreneurship or productivity improvement. Trent, like many other graduates of a UWA commerce degree went straight into work along St Georges terrace in his early 20s. Working in the corporate world as an advisor & analyst for big businesses, helping increase their profits however despite earning good money... something was missing. After missing out on the ultimate success that she so wanted as a leader in the Hockeyroos squad in the Olympics.
