Several regions in China have reported a rise in new births during the first half of the year, driven by pent-up demand to have children following the COVID-19 pandemic and the auspicious Year of the Dragon. However, experts caution that the increase is likely a short-term "episode" and that reversing the long-term decline in births will require more robust policy support.2024年7月以来,多地发布数据显示,今年上半年出生人口同比有所增长。 In Guangdong province, the number of births rose by 1.4 percent year-on-year during the first six months, according to Liu Fenghua, deputy head of Guangdong Women and Children Hospital. 1.4%。 Liu told the Yangcheng Evening News that the increase was fueled by China's 2021 policy allowing couples to have up to three children, as well as the cultural significance of the Year of the Dragon, which symbolizes success, wealth and good fortune. The increase may indicate a temporary easing of the downward trend in new births," Liu said. In Qingdao, Shandong province, the number of births rose by 5.93 percent year-on-year, reaching 22,669 in the first half of this year. Du Weiping, a senior official with the city's health commission, told a local television program that the number of newborns in Qingdao is expected to see a slight increase or remain stable throughout the year. He attributed the growth to an uptick in the number of women of childbearing age, pro-birth government policies and the preference for children born in the Year of the Dragon. However, Du predicted that the number of newborns would remain low over the next few years. In Baoji, Shaanxi province, the number of newborns in five surveyed hospitals and medical institutions increased by 10.7 percent year-on-year during the first half of the year, according to the city's bureau of statistics. Officials said the baby boom was driven by the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, which had previously discouraged some couples from having children due to health concerns. The Year of the Dragon and supportive government policies also played a role in the surge. Despite these localized increases, the National Bureau of Statistics reported a long-term decline in births. The number of newborns peaked at 17.86 million in 2016 but has fallen each year since, reaching just 9.02 million last year. The country's overall population has also declined for a second consecutive year, dropping by more than 2 million from 2022. In response, local governments have introduced various incentives, including tax breaks and childcare subsidies, to encourage more births. However, experts warn that these measures are insufficient to reverse the country's demographic trends. Yuan Xin, professor at Nankai University's School of Economics and vice-president of the China Population Association, emphasized that the current uptick in births is temporary and cannot halt the long-term decline. He pointed out that after China lifted most COVID-19 restrictions in late 2022, many couples who had postponed having children during the pandemic decided to have babies the next year, leading to the increase observed in early 2024. However, the number of women of childbearing age will continue to decline, while the country's overall birthrate is unlikely to rise. The downward trend in newborns will persist," Yuan said, adding that it will take time for pro-birth policies to have a significant impact. He suggested that more substantial government measures will be needed to address the ongoing population decline. China Population Associationn.

In the wake of Monday's attacks on the Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital and other sites across Ukraine, Acting Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Joyce Msuya today (9 Jul) told the Security Council that “hospitals have special protection under international humanitarian law,” and “intentionally directing attacks against a protected hospital is a war crime, and perpetrators must be held to account.”Msuya said these incidents “are part of a deeply concerning pattern of systematic attacks harming healthcare and other civilian infrastructure across Ukraine,” which she said, “have intensified since the spring of 2024.”The humanitarian official described the situation of women and children in Ukraine, noting that “access to medical care for women and girls – including maternal and reproductive health care – is severely restricted.”She said, “thousands of children continue to have daily lessons in bunkers, 20 feet below the ground. And for everyone, the constant fear caused by this war is having a serious impact on mental health.”Msuya said, “for more than two years now, people across all of Ukraine have shown remarkable fortitude and resilience in unbelievably challenging circumstances. However, yesterday's attacks and their impacts are a reminder of the deplorable human toll of this war, particularly on the most vulnerable members of society – tragedies we will see again and again as long as this conflict continues, and the rules of war are defied.”Russian Ambassador Vasily Nebenzya told the Council that photos and videos show the Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital was hit by “a missile of the Ukrainian Air Defence.”Nebenzya spoke of “verbal gymnastics, demonstrated today by Western members of the Security Council, trying by any means to protect the Kyiv regime” and said today's Council meeting was “an excellent opportunity to tell the truth about what actually happened.”He said those Council Members had “tried to engage in wishful thinking by condemning the allegedly intentional strike of the Russian air force against the children's medical.”For his part, Ukrainian Ambassador Sergiy Kyslytsya noted that “at least 47 people were killed and more than 190 were wounded following yesterday's strike,” and said, “Putin's envoy employed his usual tactics of denying reality and blaming Ukrainian Air Defence.”He pointed to “clear footage of the Russian missile approaching the hospital, the scale of the destruction, and the eyewitness accounts” and said Nebenzya's “comments about the possibility to destroy it entirely if Russia supposedly hit it, is just monstrous.”According to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) more than 14.6 million people – or about 40 per cent of Ukraine's population – require some form of humanitarian assistanceBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/policy-and-rights--3339563/support.

In episode 45 of The Heart Chamber Podcast, we dive into Aimee Mackovic's inspiring journey through a triple organ transplant during the pandemic. An accomplished poet and English professor from Austin, Texas, Aimee shares her battle with a congenital heart defect and subsequent heart and liver failures. Her memoir, "Contains Recycled Parts," available on Amazon, details this life-altering experience. Aimee was born with a congenital defect and needed the Fontan procedure at 15 months old. To her surprise, she learned at age 44, she would need a new heart and liver and then, eventually, a new kidney. We discuss the challenges she faced, including recovery, the importance of understanding medical information, and the invaluable role of community support. Aimee emphasizes the significance of emotional readiness and the impact of writing as a healing tool. Tune in to hear her incredible story of resilience and the life-saving power of organ donation.A Little More About Today's GuestAimee Mackovic was born with a congenital defect (a hole in the middle of her heart) and underwent her first open heart surgery at 15 months for a pulmonary banding, which was a temporary fix. That "fix" lasted until she was 22 years old. At 22, Aimee underwent another open-heart surgery to potentially now repair the hole. Due to the nature of the defect, a full repair was not possible, so they did a newly touted Fontan procedure, which was meant to be a bridge surgery to an eventual heart transplant. Well, another 22 years later with another hospital stay, she is admitted to Dell's Children Hospital in Austin, TX with heart and liver failure. The very complex and urgent nature of her case caused her to be taken on by Stanford Hospital in California, where she received her heart and liver on December 13th, 2019. She received a kidney transplant in June of 2022. In June of 2023, she moved back to Austin, TX, where she resumed her teaching life at Austin Community College and her social life with her friends. Her memoir, Contains Recycled Parts, is a humorous, gut-wrenching look at her triple-transplant journey. How to connect with AimeeInstagram: @aimeemackovicWebsite: www.aimeemackovic.comBook: Contains Recycled Parts - https://twosisterswriting.com/book/contains-recycled-parts/**I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice. One of the only certainties about having children is uncertainty: we can't find out beforehand how a pregnancy or birth experience will go, or who our children will grow up and become. Add in a premature birth, an illness diagnosis, and a NICU stay to the mix, and it can lead to overwhelming worry and anxiety. My guest today, Meg Helgeson, is certainly no stranger to this. Her twin girls Ellie and Leah, who are now healthy 12-year-old girls, had to be flown to the NICU at Comer's Children Hospital at only 5 days old to receive a meningitis diagnosis. Looking back, Meg is now able to share her advice for parents going through similar situations: from the nerves of discovering you are having twins, to the heart-wrenching experience of caring for them in the NICU. She shares helpful tips on allowing others to be there for you, remembering to care for yourself, managing expectations, and dealing with overstimulation. If you're a “recovering perfectionist” trying to balance that with the beautiful chaos of parenthood, then this episode has some goodies for you. Key Takeaways with Meg Helgeson The highs and lows of finding out you're having twins Setting healthy boundaries throughout pregnancy Managing and grieving pregnancy & birth expectations The importance of accepting help from friends and loved ones Taking care of yourself through the NICU journey Accepting that it is normal not to know everything Avoiding comparison in the NICU Treating siblings (especially twins) as separate individuals How nursery nurses make the experience less daunting Celebrating non-traditional milestones to help find joy Dealing with overstimulation around small children Letting go of perfectionism Giving yourself “second chances” to get things right Show Notes: Get Full Access to the Show Notes by visiting: MatteasJoy.org/74. In this episode of BackTable ENT, Dr. Javan Nation, a pediatric otolaryngologist from Rady's Children Hospital in San Diego, joins Dr. Shah to speak about the assessment and management of children with complex obstructive sleep apnea. --- SHOW NOTES Dr. Nation and Gopi begin the episode by discussing some of the presentations and patient populations of young children who may be coming into the office with sleep apnea. Dr. Nation also discusses his approach in conducting a physical exam, including assessing their breathing and posture to identify if a pediatric patient may have sleep apnea. Next, Drs. Nation and Gopi discuss important history taking skills that will help the larger interdisciplinary team, such as pulmonologist or craniofacial surgeon. Dr. Nation mentions that while controversial for some clinicians, he assesses teeth grinding and thumb sucking at young ages, among other physical exam findings. Dr. Nation evaluates the role of imaging, specifically CT imaging, and explains how he uses these results to communicate to families and patients. Additionally, Dr. Nation explains his approach for looking at sleep study results. Lastly Dr. Nation summarizes how he uses sleep endoscopy in some patients to decide whether or not to recommend patients for tonsillectomy. He also explores the potential role of hypoglossal nerve stimulator in pediatric patients with sleep apnea and indications for patients getting a tracheostomy for treating obstructive sleep apnea. --- RESOURCES SENTAC (Society for Ear, Nose, Throat Advancement in Children) https://sentac.org/
Dustin Egusquiza and Levi Lord raked in $25,263 a man over Cowboy Christmas to bump them both to No. 2 in the world standings with $85,156.12 won on the year. The Florida and South Dakota natives had their sights set on coming out the top money earners and accomplished that goal—with placings nearly everywhere from starting the run with a strong showing at Prescott, Arizona's World's Oldest Rodeo to finishing the week with a win in Basin City, Washington. This is Lord's best Fourth run to date, but Egusquiza's been in this position before. In 2021, the five-time NFR header and Travis Graves broke the Cowboy Christmas team roping record with $30,465. When reigning world champs Kaleb Driggers and Junior Nogueira broke that record in 2022, Egusquiza decided he wanted to go for it again.Despite waving it off in St. Paul, Oregon, Egusquiza and Lord had a nice foundation built after cashing in $4,999 a man on borrowed horses in Prescott and $3,973 at the Oakley (Utah) Independence Day Rodeo. Egusquiza and Lord finished first at the Livingston (Montana) Roundup Rodeo, Mandan (North Dakota) Rodeo days and Basin City to put together the richest Cowboy Christmas team roping run this year.Episode presented by Fast Back Ropes. Fast Back Ropes was created in 1995 with a single mission in mind – to build the best rope on the market. That will always be their number one goal. Fast Back believes it's important to focus on building the best product possible, and treat customers with the respect they deserve. For close to thirty years, Fast Back Ropes has been developing best-selling ropes by listening to their customers. Fast Back offers a variety of ropes with a size, weight and style to fit every team roper. Fast Back's most recently released rope, the Cure, is the first and only team rope built with a poly core. PREPARE NOW! https://rdm.go2cloud.org/aff_c?offer_id=223&aff_id=1682 Josh Sigurdson reports on the disgusting attack on children happening across the board as multiple new stories come out about the attempted euthenasia of children in Canada, the medical kidnapping of a baby who needs a transplant in New Zealand and the denial at Duke University of a critical transplant for a 14 year old because she's unvaccinated. This is clearly a mass eugenics operation and all the while, it is clear that they are trying to demoralize society and destroy empathy among men, women and children. In this video, we dive into a bunch of horrifying stories across the board as it becomes more and more clear that children are being put on a sacrificial alter to Baal by the psychopathic Satanic "elite." Remember, while these stories make people wince and often avoid the truth, it is incredibly important we talk about these issues in order to save the children. Stay tuned for more from WAM! Learn more at: adhdmedicationbook.com In this episode, Dr. Walt talks about ADHD in teens how it affects them in their adult life. Key Takeaways What is the real definition of ADHD? Some children are just not designed to sit still for hours at a time. How do you know if someone has ADHD? Medication acts as an imposter in the brain. Dr. Walt further explains. When examining two brain scans, is there a difference between one with ADHD and one without? Is ADHD overdiagnosed? There are three indicators how ADHD is a valid neurological condition. Adults who have ADHD are more likely to go bankrupt. Children with ADHD will have difficulty as adults. Dr. Walt sheds light on what's going on inside a child's mind who has ADHD. In this week's episode, we discuss the rise of the trans patriarchy and how biological males are using their gender identity to silence women across the world. An 80-year Grandma from Washington state was kicked out of her YMCA swimming class for complaining about a trans woman changing in the women's locker room. When the women gathered this week to peacefully protest, ANTIFA thugs showed up to harass, dox, and violently intimidate the women. Online trans activists have created a new term "stochastic terrorism" in an effort to try to silence Gays Against Groomers Coalition and Libs of Tik Tok, who are both women content creators. Boston's Children Hospital was exposed for offering gender affirming surgeries to minors and now they claim their staff is being threatened by "far-right" extremists. #News #Politics #LGBTNEW MERCHANDISE AVAILABLE: www.wakeupwithlinda.com---Timestamps00:40- Update on Trump's FBI raid: DOJ does not want to release the affidavits7:12- The Chinese have access to all voters and poll worker's data13:36- Trans male tries to join a sorority in Alabama State University23:52- Boston's Children Hospital exposed for offering gender affirming surgeries to minors 25:27- Online trans activists accuse conservatives of "Stochastic Terrorism"27:48- California hospital offers gender affirming care to two year olds44:50- Let Julie Swim! 80-year grandma is attacked by ANTIFA in Washington state---FOLLOW US ON INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/mostlypeacefulatinas/FOLLOW US ON TIK TOK: https://www.tiktok.com/@mostlypeacefulatinasFOLLOW LINDA ON INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/wakeupwithlinda/FOLLOW BELLA ON INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/liberteabella

Episode #68. This week on the podcast, I am thrilled to be joined by Chef Charles Webb, owner of Avanti Gourmet Catering and creator and host of the docuseries #ChefonTour. Charles is a Chicago native who grew up in both San Antonio, Texas, and Guanajuato, Mexico. He began his career in Wall Street after finishing his studies at The European School of Economics in Rome. Feeling unsatisfied in his career, he returned to the familiar realm of food and beverage doing the work that put him through college. It wasn't until witnessing 9/11 at the nearby SoHo street corner, Prince and Wooster that he decided to pursue what he loved. He spent many years on a worldwide adventure living out his mission to follow his passion. He worked at establishments such as The Mercer Kitchen in NYC, Casas Brancas & Spa in Brazil, Noma in Copenhagen, and on mega-yachts in the Côte d'Azur. However, it was not until 92 jobs later and his return to Chicago, that he decided to become an entrepreneur. Charles launched Avanti Gourmet Catering in Chicago. Charles has built an award-winning catering business. His mission is to curate unforgettable, incredible moments for each guest at his table. He donates his time to One Goal Foundation and Lurie's Children Hospital.
