In this week's Torah portion, Ha'azinu, we'll explore the intriguing connection between themes and the prophetic readings in the Haftarah and Besorah. Join us as we unlock hidden messages and discover how these ancient scriptures continue to speak to us today!(10.20.24)James Caruthers shares the scripture and insight from the Haftarah 2 Samuel 22:1-51 & Besorah Matthew 18:21-35.Shalom and blessings! Happy 1st day! Yah bless you and your week! Yahuah, we sing praises to you, Holy in the highest! Rain down your righteousness upon us! Set our feet on your ancient path, guide us in all your ways, and order all our days! We submit our lives under your authority! Here we are, Yahuah, use us, call us, send us, we belong to you purchased by the blood of the Risen Son, Yahusha Ha'Mashiach. How glorious the name, Yahusha, Yah is salvation! Father, you set it motion from the foundation of the earth our salvation. You loved us first so we love you now with all we have! Your Torah is a delight and nourishment to our bones. Your commandments, instructions, and precepts are not a burden. Yahusha, set an example, written in the pages of our lives, in words we have inscribed on our hearts! Blessed be the will of Yahuah for all his creation! We pray for harmony and Shalom amongst your creation. We long to be in your perfect presence at the feet of Yahusha singing praises forevermore. Mold us so that we may be found worthy to enter into the narrow gate. Help us repent and remove any blemish from our life. Fill us with a fresh Ruach that illuminates the Ruach Emeth and Ahavah. Father, we lift all the sick and down trodden in the name of your son Yahusha and your mighty name Yahuah for healing and comfort. We seek you for our deliverance and you for our answers! You alone, Yahuah, know the answers to all the questions and we seek your understanding and knowledge! Yahuah, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven and increase our strength to endure that which cannot be fixed or the trial and test that cannot be removed. Thank you, Father, with gratefulness and Thanksgiving in our hearts, for choosing us to be yours! We lift these prayers in your name Yahuah and Yahusha Ha'Mashiach name, let it be so, and let your Kingdom come! Please join James at 11 am est for the Haftarah and Besorah reading for this week's Torah portion Ha'azinu (Give ear). In the previous chapter, the Alter Rebbe explained that there are two broad categories in the love of G-d, ahavah rabbah and ahavat olam. Ahavah rabbah cannot be attained by man unaided. It is granted as a gift from above when an individual merits it; reflection alone on G-d's greatness can in no way engender this level of love. Ahavat olam, however, results from intense and sustained meditation on the greatness of G-d.

Mitzvos are the source of the incomparable pleasure found in all of the infinite levels of Gan Eden. Now, although one of the effects of kium Hamitzvos is that we “store up” the divine pleasure we will have in Gan Eden, the Joy we experience when we actually fulfill the Mitzvos needs to be based on the realization that the Mitzvos themselves, in contrast to their effects, are actually expressions of Or Ein Sof, which is infinitely beyond the pleasure caused by Mitzvos in Gan Eden (tachas asher lo avadita es Hashem Elokecha bisimcha uvituv leivav m'rov kol). This Joy in the actual fulfillment of the Mitzvos is what Aharon provides Bnei Yisroel. This happens in two stages: Preparing the wicks= ones self-initiated attempt to connect to Hashem through hisbonenus, which occurs during Pesukei Dezimrah.Lighting the wicks= the Love form Hashem which is a gift from above, which occurs during Krias Shema (Ahavah d'Bchol Meodcha). This is why we say “m'erev v'ad boker” when referrint to Aharon: the love for Hashem/Simcha shel Mitzvah happens in stages; we proceed from spiritual darkness to ever increasing illumination (=Ahavah). However, prior to both of these is the Oil, which represents both the crushing of one's physical desires and the ego generally, and the resulting oil=Chochma=Bittul, which is the fuel for the Simcha Shel Mitzvah. Without this fuel, one cannot maintain the feeling of Simcha when fulfilling the Mitzvos, and the Gilui Or Ein Sof which is the source of that Joy. That the Menorah is lit outside the Paroches represents the fact that the entire experience described above happens in the reality of Yichuda Tataah, Shem Elokim, in which we are self-conscious but also attempt to subsume ourselves completely in Elokus, Yichudah Illah (harazui shel Ahavah d'Bchol Meodcha). Another prerequisite for this love is the study of Torah, represented by Moshe. This represents Shuv, Yichudah Ilaah, which is in a way higher than Ratzui. But this is accomplished specifically by those whose primary mode of avodah is Torah (Toraso umanuso), such as Rashbi. Even such great scholars need to preface their Torah learning with Bittul, which comes through hisbonenus on Bitul Haolamos. “Veateh Tetzaveh…”= the two ways we connect to Hashem (tzavsah vechibbur) through Mitzvos, and, at a deeper level, Torah, which are provided for us by Aharon and Moshe, respectively.  Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=SVCNKGSMCEANE)

The revelation of Kesser can only come from Hashem Himself; we cannot cause it from our Avodah. This is Krias Yam Suf, Gilui HaKesser, in light of which all levels are equally distant (hafach yam kayabasha) and which is totally beyond our abilities (mah titzak eilai.. v'atem tachgarishun)ConceptsGalus and Geulah in the realm of the Sefiros.Kesser is totally beyond SH”S, even Chochma, and its revelation can only be self-initiated by Hashem.Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=SVCNKGSMCEANE)

“Ashira l'Hashem ki ga'o ga'a”. Onkelus: “geyah al giyusnei”.We know that the neshama descends into this world to achieve things that it could not do in Gan Eden. There. Is had Ahavah and Yiraah, Razto and Shuv. Here, those things are concealed and of a lower quality. So what is gained by coming into this world? “Hamichadesh bituvo”= The maintenance of the world through Mimaleh Kol Almin. This comes from Adon Haniflaos, Sovev kol Almin. The way the neshama reaches dveikus is through its understanding of Elokus. This can only apply to the lower level of Elkous which is present in the world and prvides the neshama with its life force (MMK”A). however, Adon Hanifalos is beyond comprehension (norah sehilos). We can only access that level through Torah and Mitzvos. Krias Yam Suf= Yichud Sovev uMimaleh, as a preparation for Matan Torah. The words of Torah are called susim, because they can help the neshama achieve things it can't reach on its own. This applies to the verbalizing of the words of Torah, even without understanding. However, this only works if a person has Ahavah and Yiraah, which are the “wings” which allow mitzvos to ascend. Mitzvos, and especially Tzedakah= darchei Havayeh, they draw Elokus into this from the very highest levels (rachamim rabim).  With reference to Tzedaka, we often mention both “Mishpat” and “Tzedaka”, which means that we want there to be a Gilui Elkous from the highest levels, but because at that point it is possible for this gilui to go anywhere, we want it to be channeled to BN”Y through Hashem's Gevurah (mishpat). These are achieved by Mitzvos and he avoidance of physical extravagance in ones own physical possessions. One who fulfills the Mitzvos is called “Tzaddik”, because he causes a hashpaah of Or Ein Sof into/through Mitzvos. This is the meaning of yeridah tzarich aliya: through the neshama's descent into this world, it is able to draw down the deepest levels of Hashem's Compassion (Rachamim) through Tefilah, Torah, and Mitzvos.“Ashira l'Hashem ki ga'o ga'a”: Krias Yam Suf= Hamshachas Sovev Kol Almin, which is now accomplished through Torah and Mitzvos, and whose revelation we will experience by Moshiach (then, it was Matan Torah).Torah and Mitzvos reach higher than Ahavah and Yiraah, but still require it.When drawing from the highest levels, we need to ensure that Elokus flows in the fight direction. “Lisusasi b'richvei Paro dimisich rayasi”.“Sus”= Horses= Letters, which are both controlled by the person(s Sechel) but which can transport the neshama to a farther place than it can reach on its own, beyond Sechel. This is through Davening. Ideally, one also needs to be misbonen, at the very leastm in the words themselves. And even all this is not the highest level. There are two kinds of letters: “Female” Letters: those of Tefillah, which function bottom-up, the ascent of Tefillah. “Male” Letters: those which function top-down, draw Elokus into this world. These are the letters of Torah. Through Torah, we bring Hashem Himself into this world. Just as there are letters in Keduash, there are also letters in Kelipah. These are the letters of Devarim Biteilim and Lashon Harah, which drag down our nefesh to a degree it couldn't have descended to on its own and draw down even deeper layers of Kelipah on the neshama (osios zcharim). The Power of Letters/Speech. Two kinds of letters: Tefliah and Torah.Letters of Kedusha, Letters of Kelipah.  Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=SVCNKGSMCEANE)

Starting first discourse on parshas BeshalachVisit www.ProjectLikkuteiTorah.com for more resourcesויהי בשלח פרעה את העם“Vayihi beshalach Paroh es ha'am, v'lo nacham Elokim derech eretz Plishtim”.The experience of BN”Y in Mitzrayim, and Galus in general, is compared to planting. Planting is a process in which a small amount of seed produces, after a time, a large amount of produce. So too, the mission of BN”Y is to cause a Giliu Elokus in this world, which is “planted” in Galus and which bears fruit by Moshiach. The Chayus of Kelipah/Akum is from Tohu, (which allows them to have a greater connection to physicality  and a lesser one to Elokus) which is higher than the expression of Torah and Mitzvos which descends through Seder Hishtalshelus in order that some of it be revealed in this world (more revealed Elokus, less of a relation to physicality). Through our engagement with the physical world, in honest business, Torah, Mitzvot, and Tzedaka, using our physical possession as means to connect to Hashem, and refraining from those aspects of the physical world that make Hashem's presence less of a reality, we elevate the nitzotzos of Tohu that are scattered throughout our world. This is also the level of Teshuvah, Mesiras Nefesh, and Ahavah d'Bchol Meodcha. Just as a seed needs to decompose before the process of growth can begin, so too, to access the power of growth within ourselves (i.e. that ability to uplift the physical world) we need to experience merirus, which leads to rachmanus, and then Ahava and Simcha, all of which is proper fuel for our elevation of the world. Im l'ovrei ritzono…: although we now experience a less secure physical existence than do Non-Jews (who receive their chayus from a level in Elokus which is beyond distinctions),  through our Avodah, which now seems limited, we elevate the physical world itself, whose infinite power is revealed by Moshiach. “Beshalach Paro”: Paroh (Galus) is what the means through which we cause a whole new level of Gilui Elokus through elevating the world.“v'lo nahcham Elokim derech eretz Plishtim”: Plishtim in avodah= unbridled love for Hashem. However, there is a fine line between Plisthim in Kedusha and Plisthim ion Kelippah, which expresses itself as a carefree, frivolous attitude. Bypassing “Plishtim”= not attempting to reach levels of religious experience that one cannot reach. To achieve true Joy in and Love for Elokus, one needs to work. This requires Kabolas Ol, Torah, Mitzvos (Yam Suf), Merirus and Teshvah (Midbar). Only after this can one achieve a true level of Love and connection with Hashem (Eretz Cenaan), which is much greater than Erets Plishtim. ConceptsWe are planters: we sow the seeds of Birur, and we will see the fruits by Moshiach. The difference between the hashpaah of Jews and Non-Jews. Avodas HaMerirus. You cannot achieve a true emotional connection to Hashem without putting in the hard work. “Vaeirah el Avraham…”. This appearance of Hashem happens to every Jew, whose neshama includes aspects from all of the Avos. We need to understand what this appearance means.Galus= gestation., Geulah= birth. The analogy of gestation in Galus:All of our sensory orifices are closed. This means that we are unable to sense Elokus in our world. Our sustenance flows directly into our digestive system, bypassing the mouth, heart, and brain. This means that our fulfillment of the Mitzvos is not done with emotion and understanding, but out of habit. Moshiach= we are aware of and experience Elokus and the consequent emotions of that experience. This happens through our current avodah in which we try to instill Love of Hashem in ourselves. Hashem is really beyond all of creation (Yachid), which is also why He is present in all of creation (Echad). However, we are not aware of this. But we are able to become aware of it (Shema Yisroel), and thereby reveal Elokus in the world and in ourselves (our Middos, through Iskafyah/Hishapcha).The ultimate Avodah of Ahavah is that it leads to action, Simcha shel Mitzvah. Simcha= Milk, which originates in blood, which originates in food:Now that we don't have a Beis Hamikdash, we cannot initiate the process of “sacrificing” our NH”B. Nowadays, the process is the following: through Brachos and Mitzvos, we draw Elokus into the lower worlds, and then into our neshama (Food, which connects the body and the soul/Hashem and this world), which is a prerequisite for Ahavah and Yiraah. This awakens ones spiritual sensitivity (Blood) which leads one to feel repulsed by those aspects of himself which are not dedicated to Hashem (Yitzchak)This in turn leads to Pity on one's neshama (Yaakov), which leads to Simcha, when one realizes that although his body may make it difficult to relate to Elokus, he also has a Neshama. This is why “slach lanu” is only after Shema: One needs to accept/be sensitive to Elokus in order to realize ones faults.  [Awareness of Elokus--- awareness of one's lack (NH”B)--- awareness of one's inherent value (NH”E)----- Joy (Simcha shel Mitzvah]Ultimate joy and pleasure in Elokus (chalav/simcha shel mitzvah) comes from one's contemplation on (dadim=Binah) 1) Hashem's greatness, and 2) that Hashem chose us to be His people. ConceptsEvery Neshamah has aspects of the Avos.Galus= Gestation, Geulah=Birth.Yachid vs. Echad.Galus is only perceptual. With Rabbi Baruch EpsteinVisit www.ProjectLikkuteiTorah.com for more resources“Kol doidi heinei zeh ba, midaleg al heharim, mikafetz al hagvaos”We need to understand the inner meaning of Galus and Geulah, and the way the former leads to the latter. Every Galus and Geulah is rooted in, and therefore shares the same qualities as Galus Mitzrayim. Just as there, we were required to perform physical labor, so too now, we are required to fulfill a spiritual labor. The spiritual meaning of “vayimariru es chayei avoseinu b'avodah kasha, b'chomer uv'lveinim uv'chol avodah basadeh”:“Avoseinu”: the Avos= Middos, which come from Sechel. The Neshama is, from the outset, equipped with Ahavah and Yirah. But the Neshama also has Bechirah (i.e. guf/NH”B, which conceals the latent AHV”Y), and thus it needs to be able to elicit this AHV”Y.The ideal way to draw out the latent AHV”Y of the Neshamah is through Hisbonenus, Sechel.“Avodah kasha”: In Galus, we are lacking this capacity of proper Hisbonenus (garon/charon/mitzrayim), because Hashem's presence isn't obvious (anochi ered imach). The way we overcome our natural tendencies is by accessing our natural Emunah through Davening out loud (kol meorer kavanah). [In this case, vayimariru describes our inability to appreciate Elokus; it describes the problem of Galus]Even in Davening, we experience M”Z. This makes us realize that we are in Galus, and should cause us to ask Hashem to have mercy on Himself, on the part of Him that is in us (NH”E) and is not revealed. The way we reach this is through Merirus (which is also avodah kasha), which leads to beseeching Hashem's Mercy, which can then awaken our Love to Hashem. [In this case, vayimariru is the way we deal with the problem of Galus]. Even in Davening, we experience M”Z. This makes us realize that we are in Galus, and should cause us to ask Hashem to have mercy on Himself, on the part of Him that is in us (NH”E) and is not revealed. All Galus and Geulah is rooted in Galus/Yetziyas Mitzrayim. The Avodah of Merirus. We “complete” Hashem through bringing His Presence and Unity into this world. The various modes of slavery in Egypt as they apply to our current Galus. “Vayomer Hashem ailav: Mi sam peh l'adam?”.Q: What is the meaning of the exchange between Hashem and Moshe? What is the meaning of Moshe's speech impediment? Did Moshe not know that Hashem was the cause of this? The Sefer Hatmunah says that this world is the second world out of seven, corresponding to the attribute of Gevurah, which explains the general ascendence of Evil and Galus in this world. The Arizal agrees with this general scheme but argues that 1) there is no need for there to be any worlds after this one, and that 2) these stages do not take place via the creation and destruction of physical worlds, but rather spiritual worlds. The first world was that of Tohu, and the second, that of Tikkun. There are two Neshamos which originate in the World of Tohu, but come into this world to aid it in it journey towards perfection. They possess a unique type of divine energy (from Tohu) which is beyond the normal limits of this world (Tikkun). In Moshe's case, this is what allowed him to bring the Jews out of Mitzrayim and give them the Torah. Tohu and Tikkun (different opinions about “Shemitos”)Neshamos of Tohu in the world of Tikkun.  Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=SVCNKGSMCEANE)

With Rabbi Dovid Leib Shmerling from Melbourne, AUQ1- What is the inner meaning of Rani V'Simchi?Q2- What is its relationship to Chanukah?“Ivdu es Hashem b'simcha, bayu lifanav b'raninah”. The Zohar says “simcha” corresponds Tzafrah (day), and “ranenah” to Rimsah (night). We need to understand both of these ideas. “Raninah” The avodah of the Malachim (and all of creation) is that of Raninah, song and praise. These express the yearnings of the Malachim to lose themselves in Hashem (Ratzu). Now, the desire to come close to Hashem implies that one is distant. When one is in the presence of that which he desires, one no longer strives towards anything. This is even more so when  the object of one's desire (here, Or Ein Sof) causes the obliteration of the self (Bittul). The Malachim are always trying to get closer to OE”S, are always “singing”, because they only relate to Malchus, or more generally, Seder Hishtalshelus, which provides them with there existence but which is not Hashem Himself. (This is the meaning of “v'tzikascha yrianenu”: Tzedek=Malchus, which is the way OE”S sustains all of creation. And yet this is only an external expression of Hashem, “zecher rav tuvcha…”.)This is the meaning of Rimsa, and its relation to Ranena: Malchus=Olam=Helem=Night. The Malachim sing because they wish to escape the “night”, the expression of Hashem which hides His true being. In our avodah, this means the Ahavah to Hashem which leads to the desire to escape the body and the NH”B. This is expressed in “Boruch shem…”. The Malachim only serve Hashem in this way. However, for us, this is only the first stage in avodah. “Simcha”The second stage is that we draw Elokus into this world (Shuv). The simcha that we have is the result of the revelation of Elokus in the world through Torah and Mitzvos. Even though on our own, we can only reach Tzedek/Malchus, Hashem, who is equally above all, invested His Essence into Torah and Mitzvos. “ivdu es Hashem b'simcha”: Hashem= Ein Sof B”H with Simcha shel Mitzvah (and the Mitzvah leads to Simcha). Now we can understand the meaning of “rani v'simchi bas tzion”:“yimloch Hashem lioam elokayich tzion, lidor v'dor…”: in order to draw Elokus into the world (yimloch.. lolam..dor v'dor), we need to perform Torah and Mitzvos, which are symbols/physical manifestations of different expressions of Elokus, and which draw those same expressions into the world. (This is also the case by Brachos HaMitzvos: Bracha= hamavrich gefen=Hamshacha ). When there is ISADL”S, which allows for the revelation caused by Mitzvos to be apparent, we are also referred to as Tzion. But when there is no ISADL”S, we are called Bas Tzion (bas=mekabel w/o mashpia). The example for this can be seen in davening: only through the avodah of PSD”Z (Rinah, ISADL”S) do we reach the Bittul of Krias Shema (Simcha). Of course, mitzvot have an effect even without our love/bittul. But not as much as they would have if we also had those emotions. However, at the time of Moshiach, even Bas will reach reach Simcha, through a even higher level of ISADL”E.Neiros Chanukah represent some kind of ISADL”S, Raninah.Zman and Makom are creations, from Malchus.Malachim only serve in a way of Ratzu. Jews have the additional ability to cause Shuv.We reach the bittul of Krias Shemah only through the Avodah of PSD”Z.Mitzvot always draw down Elokus, but so on a deeper level when they are done with emotion.
