Dive into our nostalgia as we go on a reminiscing spree, circling back to early rends and the iconic chirp of a Nextel phone. These stories are the threads of our shared history, and they stitch together a tapestry that is both relatable and utterly entertaining. To cap it all off, we celebrate three years of MinorityPlus1 Podcast shenanigans, pondering over society's accidental sexual innuendos and sharing a laugh at the absurdity in words like "moist." There's no topic too bold for us to tackle, even touching on the delicate balance of friendship and TMI. We leave you with a call to 'stereotype responsibly' and a promise to keep the laughs and stories flowing. So, why not join the party? It is the third anniversary of the insurrection at the United States Capitol Building in Washington D.C. On January 6, 2021, a mob of supporters of then-U.S. president Donald Trump stormed the Capitol in an attempt to keep Trump in power after he lost the 2020 presidential election. Many arrests and sentences have come down related to the January 6, 2021 uprising. For example, Peter Schwartz, a Kentucky man with an existing criminal record, received a 14-year sentence for attacking police officers with pepper spray and a chair while he breached the Capitol that day. Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes was sentenced to 18 years in prison, after being found guilty on conspiracy charges for his role in the Capitol attack. Henry "Enrique" Tarrio, the former leader of the Proud Boys, was sentenced to 22 years for his role in the Capitol insurrection And, here in Albany, NY, it was not the right-wing extremists who were sentenced to prison time after a violent brawl broke out at the Stop The Steal protest, but an artist, independent journalist, and activist, Alex Stokes. He is serving a 20-year sentence for allegedly assaulting members of the Proud Boys. He claimed it was self-defense. Today we air an interview with Alex Stokes partner, Willo.
I am joined by Alex Stokes to discuss her journey through Television news, perfecting her British accent and the importance of traveling with an entourage.

We explore the lives of people who are in love with their AI chatbots. Replika is a chatbot designed to adapt to the emotional needs of its users. It is a good enough surrogate for human interaction that many people have decided that it can fulfill their romantic needs. The question is whether these kinds of romantic attachments are real, illusory, or good for the people involved. Apps like Replika represent the future of love and sex for a subpopulation of people, so we discuss the ethics of the practice. Host Barry Lam talks to philosophers Ellie Anderson and David Pena-Guzman of the Overthink podcast about what theories of love would say about these kinds of relationships. AI lovers include Alex Stokes and Rosanna Ramos. Original scoring by Aaron Morgan. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Frank Murphy is joined by comedian and author Alex Stokes. Alex is known as “The Beer Comedian.” His Waking Up in a Brewery podcast can be found at https://www.facebook.com/wakingupinabrewery or through his website, https://www.beercomedian.com/ Alex has written several books including Messing with Tourists: Stupid Answers to Stupid Questions. He got much of the material while working in a ticket booth on the Gatlinburg strip. He finished writing a third installment of the book series but his laptop crashed and he had to rewrite the whole book from scratch. When Alex visited colleges with his son, he stopped at breweries along the way to book future comedy gigs. Frank suggests that Alex check out the breweries near Ann Arbor, Michigan, where Frank Jr. recently completed his PhD. One of Alex's sponsors is the Tennessee Cider Company, where Frank and Kathryn Frady recorded the See More Smokies Insider Edition episode found here: https://youtu.be/MqC_MeNJno8 Frank, his wife Jere, and Dr. Frank Jr. visited the Dexter Cider Mill in Michigan. They bought a jar of maple syrup as a gift for the neighbor who watched their house. Alex thinks it looks like bourbon. Frank also bought some hard ciders to have when Kathryn Frady visits. Jere bought a Graeter's Ice Cream gift card to get extra gas points at the supermarket. They had planned to stop at the Graeter's in downtown Cincinnati but decided to avoid traffic by continuing on to the Graeter's in downtown Lexington instead. When they got to Lexington, they got stuck in traffic headed to Rupp Arena for a country music concert. Alex would go to a brewery to write his books, rather than stay home and get distracted. Alex and Chris Travis have so far recorded Waking Up in a Brewery at 28 of the 32 breweries in Knoxville. Alex and Chris have started their own version of bar trivia called “Waking Up In A Brewery Presents: This Beer Tastes Funny!” Frank and several others were tagged in a Facebook memory by a former co-worker. When Frank looked at the list of the other former colleagues who were tagged, he discovered that one of them had unfriended him. On Saturday, October 8, 2022, Waking Up in a Brewery will host the Bruce Street Brewfest in Sevierville. Frank Murphy is joined by comedian and author Alex Stokes. Alex is known as “The Beer Comedian.” His “Waking Up in a Brewery” podcast can be found at https://www.facebook.com/wakingupinabrewery or through his website, https://www.beercomedian.com/ Frank got a little sunburned and a little bit of a sugar rush while recording a video at the Tennessee Valley Fair. The video will be on YouTube later this week. It includes “Nana's Gooey Butter Funnel Cake” and an appearance by Fairest of the Fair Katelyn Fedrick. Alex credits Frank with getting him booked for a clean comedy gig at First Night Knoxville. Alex didn't have clean material at the time and had to write a new act. Frank read that comedians can make a living by doing a clean act at the “three Cs” - corporate, college, and cruise gigs. Some comedians would rather work blue so they can shock the audience into submission. Alex Stokes went into comedy full-time around the same time that his wife Jenny went to school to become a veterinarian for zoo animals. Her favorite animals are tigers. Frank went to a photo shoot with two live tigers and radio hosts Mark & Brian. Frank performed in an improv show with Einstein Simplified at Creepy Con. He went backstage 30 minutes before showtime and felt out of place as the only person not wearing a costume. In the show, Frank had to play an expert on the movie Beetlejuice, which he has only seen once. Alex found it challenging to improvise when he was pulled onstage for a bit with Einstein Simplified. He is used to preparing his jokes in advance. Alex says some stand-up comics hate improv. Frank knew a Vegas comedian who hated improv and prop comics. Frank says improvisers prepare for their shows by learning the rules of improv. They avoid denials and questions, for example. They have to listen, accept, and support their scene partner. Alex tells about the value of having an opening act to warm up and help gauge the crowd. Dive bar gigs are hard when the crowd isn't expecting comedy. One time another comedian got in a fistfight with an audience member right as Alex was about to go on. As Alex started, someone shouted out a reaction to the breaking news on the TV over Alex's head. Frank asks Alex if he is sad to hear someone famous died. Frank says he isn't said to hear they died, he is sad that they actually died. The doctors sent a petition to the department Wednesday. The letter says Dr. Cara Christ failed to take meaningful actions to slow the spread of COVID-19. The doctors say medical evidence for the effectiveness of masks and social distancing measures should have been communicated to Arizonans sooner in the pandemic. “These are things that should have been clearly and strongly conveyed to the public without any gray zone so that the public can know how to act," said Dr. Dionne Mills, who helped organize the petition. Mills said doctors involved have repeatedly asked Christ to address concerns. “Most of the people in our group are actually treating COVID patients, which she is not," Mills said. The group, known as Physicians for Science, Equity and Advocacy, is also calling for enforcement of a statewide mask mandate, closure of dine-in restaurants, and expanded testing and contact tracing.
