Federal Judge Protects DC Non-Citizen Voting Rights, Overturns Legal Challenge

Real News Now Podcast

A ruling issued by a federal judge has rejected a legal challenge against a piece of statute in the capital city, Washington, D.C., that gives the right to non-citizens in the area to participate in local elections. The lawsuit fell through due to the inability of the seven involved plaintiffs to prove substantial detriment due to the operative law. The magistrate responsible for the decision, Amy Berman Jackson, was originally appointed by former President Obama. The aggrieved parties of this legal showdown are all U.S. citizens who had their voter registrations in D.C. The law under scrutiny is known as the 'Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022.' The litigants voiced disapproval over this law, citing an alleged violation of their rights as enshrined in the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. constitution. This novel statute came to be part of the D.C. laws after the city's Council passed it in 2022. The innovative aspect of this legislation was that it abolished the pre-existing mandate of citizenship as a necessity for involvement in local municipal elections. Exclusive to the domain of local ballots, the law endows noncitizen residents of the country's capital with the ability to cast their vote, leaving out federal-level voting entirely. This is clearly observed in the documents pertaining to the law. This law assures the right to vote in a range of matters, from the selection of local leadership figures to the decision-making processes related to local initiatives, referenda, recalls, or changes to the city's charter. It's worth noting that the reach of the law is not confined merely to voting rights. It also allows non-national residents to contest for different roles within the D.C. government and to contribute as members of the city's Board of Elections, as illustrated in the judicial documents.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It appears that E. Jean Carroll's defamation lawsuit against Donald Trump might actually go to trial pretty soon — the court is behaving like it does when a trial is about to begin. This week, we talked about evidence of Trump's prior behavior — two other accusations from women who say he committed sexual crimes against them, decades apart — that Judge Lewis Kaplan has decided may be admitted in court. Usually, testimony about prior bad acts isn't allowed in evidence because it's prejudicial, but there's a special, legislated exception for evidence about sexual assaults. Even the Access Hollywood tape will be admitted under this exception. We also talked about moves by Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, who may be preparing to indict Donald Trump for falsifying business records related to his hush-money payment to porn actress Stormy Daniels. And we talked about Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, the former FBI staffers who were involved in both an extramarital affair and the FBI's investigation into the Trump campaign's links to Russia. He's suing for wrongful termination and she's suing over the release of her embarrassing text messages; long-suffering federal judge Amy Berman Jackson is presiding over their case, and she's decided they may depose both Trump and FBI Director Christopher Wray, but only about specific topics and only for two hours each. We discussed what you have to show in order to get the right to depose a president (or former president) himself when you sue the US government.Visit serioustrouble.show to find a transcript of this episode and to support our show. She is one of many Republicans to play into the leftist narrative that January 6th was an armed insurrection led by a sitting president, a complete lie. It’s Trump that has been the victim since before his presidency with one hoax after another. Facebook embraces the support from weak Republicans like Cheney, Mitt Romney, and Adam Kinzinger, and is using it to uphold their ban of Trump from the platform. Facebook and Twitter act like a government within a government, an oligopoly that threatens our right to free speech, and continue to abuse their government immunity and make it impossible to sue them. It is the night of the Democratic Debate preceding the Nevada Caucus. Money is riding high on Bloomberg revealing he doesn't have thick skin. How long before he loses his elitist cool and treats the Democratic candidates like he does his staff. Will he be able to keep a lid on his love for abortion, targeting minorities, and his contempt for farmers and the middle class. We begin with a report about the rumor that Bloomberg may be the trojan horse for Hillary Clinton followed by highlights of the debate. At some point today we will hear the sentencing of Roger Stone by the Democrats hatchet judge Amy Berman Jackson. Judge Jackson denied Roger Stone's request for a new trial. Judge Jackson is the perfect example of a fixed Judicial system. Where Democrats walk free and conservatives burn. And last but not least. A health warning especially for pregnant mothers on the dangers of pfas chemicals in our drinking water that the EPA didn't mention to us for over 20 years.

On Tuesday's Mark Levin Show, Who is Oscar Lopez-Rivera? He is someone that President Trump did not pardon today. Lopez-Rivera is an F.A.L.N. terrorist that was commuted by President Obama. Lopez-Rivera sought to bring a Marxist government to Puerto Rico and was responsible for the New York City bombing deaths of four Americans. Of course, Bernie Sanders, Bill de Blasio, and other communist-sympathizers lobbied for his commutation and are upset about President Trump's commutation of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Then, Amy Berman-Jackson is a terribly partisan federal judge that should never have been appointed. However, an association of federal judges has taken exception to Trump's exercise of free speech in tweeting his opinion of Roger Stone's excessive prison sentence for an alleged process crime. Attorney General Barr was well within his rights to intervene in this case, just as Trump was. The Department of Justice cannot "interfere" in something that is its responsibility. Later, every known anti-Semite in America is endorsing Sen. Bernie Sanders for President. It's no surprise, most people that hate America, hate Jews too. We see similar anti-Americanism in Israeli politics, and should Benny Ganz become Prime Minister the peace process advanced by the United States will be derailed because it's not in Ganz's self-interest to work with the U.S given his coalition of non-Jew alliances. Afterward, American Oligarch Michael Bloomberg is being accused of running a 54 Billion dollar toxic sexually-charged nightmare. According to Business Insider, the Bloomberg company has been reported as a sexualized predatory environment over the past twenty years by several female workers. Learn more about your ad choices.
