That's the last time KITM hires that local kid “Big Balls” to do IT work. Yesterday's show file wasn't recorded… which one could only wish happened to the first 15 minutes of today's show as David Waldman on-the-fly set up the KITM VoIP connection to Greg Dworkin. It's the economy, stupid, and no one could possibly handle it more stupidly than Donald K. Trump. Inflation was lower than expected in February… remember February? That was so long ago. Trump's own advisors are terrified because they see what's coming. Americans are finally getting the picture, as if that really matters. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick hasn't yet seen the underside of the bus but can tell you that it's a wonderful place to be. Go see Crazy Don for crazy deals! Right behind the White House just off Pennsylvania Avenue! Green card holder, American spouse, kid on the way, Mahmoud Khali was disappeared after using his Constitutional rights in a politically incorrect (for March 2025) manner. Columbia, gem of private higher education, did exactly what Trump wanted, therefore their future destruction as an example will be doubly satisfying. Ohio, for one, welcomes their anti-DEI overlords to all of their 14 public universities and 23 public colleges. Georgetown University, in Washington DC, sees diversity, equity, and inclusion as part of their compliance to a higher authority… the Constitution. Greenland's election was between 6 parties, 5 who want independence from Denmark, 6 who want independence from Trump. The US closed its eyes to Ukraine intelligence, encouraging the Five Eyes intelligence alliance to become the Four Eyes intelligence group, which does sound more intelligent.  House Gops sent their unclean CR to the Senate. Let's see if Dems can keep from being weenies over there now. Walt Nauta should be in jail, so of course he's on the U.S. Navy's board of visitors. Trump communications chief McLaurine Pinover defended DOGE Layoffs while efficiently modelling cute outfits.

I'm back on the Board of Visitors for the Naval Academy. If you remember Biden removed me from my position at the Naval Academy and Spicer V Biden literally paved the way for Trump to remove all of Biden's political appointees. Dr. Ronnie Jackson rose to admiral in Navy, Walt Nauta has over 20 years of service and Rep. Derrick Van Orden was a Navy SEAL. I myself have over 20 years of service but you would have never known that if you heard this from the media over the weekend. Over 50 different media outlets reported only that a number of "Trump loyalist" have been appointed. President Trump squashed rumors aboard Air Force One that there is a feud within the cabinet, reiterating the hundreds of billions of dollars of waste, fraud and abuse Elon is exposing and eliminating. President Trump finally squashed the Russian hoax law firm Perkins Coie by suspending their security clearance, 15 other law firms are under the microscope for lawfare and unlawful DEI practices. Hegseth and the department of defense squash the AP's attempt at fake news. It's been nearly 4 months since the election and the Democrats new dance videos just aren't "slapping" like they had hoped. It's so embarrassing to watch Democrats try internet trends and speak gen-z lingo. Whoever is giving them these ideas... super sus. Greg Dworkin walks us through some familiar and relevant Watergate history, beginning with the saga of John Mitchell, which serves as necessary background to today's corruption, only part of which manifests itself in the form of Eric Adams' corruption. Another fun development on this front: a NY Bar Association complaint against Count Boveula. Of course, there are a million other angles on Trump's corruption, like this one out of left field, on NYC congestion pricing. The Adams story is just today's appetizer. And that's just the domestic model. Looking abroad, we find other worrisome precedent—and the potential for new disasters—in Germany. And, of course, the potential for compounding old disasters, as in Ukraine. Checking back in on the growing library of Trump “administration” attorney conflicts of interest, Walt Nauta's lawyer just remembered he's in government now, and resigned his case. Another story we had to check back in on: Trump's targeting of the Merit Service Protection Board. While we were waiting around for a new show, a federal judge reversed MSPB Chair Cathy Harris' purported dismissal. And that other growing library, the list of federal agencies infiltrated by the DOGE Teen Hunger Force has also expanded. This time, it's just the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). No big whoop. Just in case you'd forgotten how they get everyone to lie down for them, though, the answer is just what you thought it was: death threats.

Recall that Special Counsel Jack Smith was required by Department of Justice policy to dismiss the classified documents case against Donald Trump because DOJ has a horrific policy that a criminal president cannot be prosecuted while in office. However, the Mara-a-Lago documents case continues against Trump's two co-defendants, Walt Nauta and Carlos de Oliveira. The case presently is being appealed as a result of Trump-appointed Judge Aileen Cannon dismissing the case contrary to existing precedent. This Day in Legal History: Narcotic Control Act Becomes LawOn July 18, 1956, the Narcotic Control Act became law, significantly transforming the landscape of narcotics regulation in the United States. The Act was introduced to combat the growing concerns about drug abuse and trafficking. It imposed harsher penalties for violations of existing drug laws, including mandatory minimum sentences and the death penalty for certain repeat offenders. The Act expanded federal control over the use, possession, and sale of narcotic drugs and marijuana, aiming to curb the rising tide of addiction and illegal drug activities. This legislation marked a pivotal shift towards more stringent drug policies, reflecting the era's intensifying war on drugs. Enforcement was also bolstered, granting law enforcement agencies greater authority to tackle drug-related crimes. For better or worse, the Narcotic Control Act laid the groundwork for future drug legislation and enforcement strategies, significantly influencing the country's approach to drug control for decades to come.U.S. prosecutors have appealed a federal judge's decision to dismiss the criminal case against Donald Trump regarding the retention of classified documents post-presidency. Special Counsel Jack Smith, appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland, was deemed unlawfully appointed by Judge Aileen Cannon. Cannon, a Trump appointee, ruled that Garland did not have Congressional authorization to appoint Smith with such extensive powers. This ruling has favored Trump, who is the Republican candidate for the upcoming presidential election. Trump's campaign called for the dismissal of all four criminal cases against him following this decision. Cannon's ruling dismissed charges against Trump and his co-defendants, Walt Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira, who were accused of obstructing the investigation. Trump had been indicted in other cases, including a New York conviction related to hush money payments and charges in Georgia over election interference. The appeal is directed to the Atlanta-based 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, where many judges were appointed by Trump.Prosecutors appeal Trump classified documents case dismissal | ReutersThe espionage trial of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich resumed yesterday July 17, 2024, in Yekaterinburg, Russia, with witness testimonies heard behind closed doors. Gershkovich, accused of spying for the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, faces up to 20 years in prison. Arrested in March 2023, he has been held in Moscow's Lefortovo prison since then. Both Gershkovich and his employer, as well as the U.S. government, deny the allegations, asserting that he was simply performing his duties as an accredited journalist. The Wall Street Journal has criticized the trial as a sham and continues to advocate for his release. Russian authorities claim to have irrefutable evidence of his espionage activities, though specifics have not been disclosed. The trial is closed to the press, a standard procedure in Russia for cases involving treason or espionage. U.S. officials view Gershkovich and another detained American, Paul Whelan, as bargaining chips for a potential prisoner exchange, with President Putin indicating openness to such negotiations. The trial will continue on Friday with arguments from the respective lawyers.Russian trial of detained US reporter Gershkovich hears witness testimony in secret | ReutersThe Biden administration announced the testing of 17 new climate technologies in federal buildings, part of a $9.6 million initiative aimed at advancing near-commercial climate tech. The General Services Administration (GSA), which oversees federal properties, will facilitate these real-world trials. The effort aligns with the administration's broader goal to reduce carbon emissions across federal facilities. The GSA will select testing sites by the end of the year, with evaluations concluding in 2026.Technologies include Armstrong World Industries' ceiling tiles that manage heat, Brightcore Energy's compact geothermal drilling rigs, and Gridscape's modular microgrid systems. Other innovations involve Nostromo Energy's ice storage cooling systems, SafeTraces' air quality mapping using DNA-tagged particles, Moxion Power's portable battery systems, and Lamarr.AI's drones for building audits.Successful technologies will be connected with energy service companies (ESCOs) through a unique matchmaking session to drive scalability. GSA administrator Robin Carnahan emphasized that the program supports market demand rather than picking winners, suggesting that the adoption of these technologies will persist regardless of potential administrative changes. The initiative aims to demonstrate the practical benefits and cost savings of these advanced climate technologies.US Taps Federal Buildings to Test Next-Generation Climate TechThe Biden administration's effort to strengthen protections for gay and transgender students under Title IX remains blocked in ten states following rulings from the Fifth and Sixth Circuit Courts of Appeals. The rulings represent a significant setback for President Biden's transgender rights initiatives, as the appeals courts indicated the rule might be unconstitutional. In the Sixth Circuit, Judge Jeffrey S. Sutton upheld a district court's injunction against the rule in Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, and West Virginia. The court argued that the rule's definition of sex discrimination likely exceeded the Education Department's authority. This decision prevents these states from implementing the rule, which includes provisions like using preferred pronouns and allowing students to participate in sports consistent with their gender identity.Meanwhile, the Fifth Circuit upheld a separate injunction for Louisiana, Mississippi, Idaho, and Montana. This ruling came after the Department of Education failed to convince the court that delaying the rule would cause irreparable harm. The court noted that enforcing the rule could impose significant administrative costs and legal uncertainties on these states. The rulings underscore the ongoing legal battles over expanding Title IX protections to include sexual orientation and gender identity, with conservative states challenging the federal government's authority in this domain. These setbacks come after a similar injunction was upheld by the Sixth Circuit in June, affecting federal guidance documents related to LGBTQ+ student rights. The Biden administration's rule, set to take effect on August 1, 2024, is now blocked in multiple states, with ongoing litigation likely to continue influencing the rule's future. SERIES 2 EPISODE 199: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Trump and his henchmen opened not one but two emergency exits for him to bail out of Thursday's debate against The President and blame it on Biden. And in doing so, his dumbest press secretary yet went on CNN and called Adolf Hitler "HILTER." H-I-L-T-E-R, Hilter. I don't know if she should be fired for invoking HItler, or if she WILL be fired for getting the name of Trump's role model wrong. It's Karoline Leavitt, the former centerfielder of the St. Anselm College softball team and the idiot who previously insisted the word 'damning' is correctly pronounced 'dammaning,' tried to filibuster CNN's Katie Hunt about how biased debate hosts Jake Tapper and Dana Bash really are. As Hunt cut first the answer and then the interview off, Leavitt insisted anybody could spend five minutes googling how many times Tapper had compared Trump to "Adolf Hilter." Bypassing the whole Hitler/Hilter stuff, "Damaning Hilter" Leavitt adopted the traditional pose of the Martyred Trump Huckster and did the rounds of the fascist media outlets. When she went on Steve Bannon's outlet he said either CNN apologizes to her, or Trump should cancel the debate. Hours later, Trump opened a second emergency chute, again demanding drug tests before the debate, as his personal quack Congressman Physician Prescribe Thyself Ronny Jackson wrote a long letter to the White House requesting such tests (and saying nothing about any stashes he may have left there). Who knows if Trump really will bail. But he's got FOLAD (Fear Of Losing A Debate) all covered. MEANWHILE: it's a long shot but I'm beginning to wonder if somebody on Jack Smith's side is laying the groundwork for indicting Trump anew - in New Jersey. There has been a second news leak in just three business days, about Trump's Mar-a-Lago Espionage Scandal. Yesterday's leak via ABC News did not resonate among American news media which can generally only BARELY handle one thing at a time – like the debate. The story itself – about Trump making an almost-secret special trip to Florida in July 2022 to make sure nobody had touched the documents he stole from the White House and hid from his own attorney - may not be much more than another one of those threads that you pull on and maybe it just comes off in your hand – or maybe it unravels the entirety of Trump's size 62 suit. I don't even think prosecutors know what they have here. But he went down there two weeks after he had bankers' boxes shipped from Mar-a-Lago to the Bedminster Golf Course. They didn't contain Ivana. B-Block (20:35) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: I have somehow forgotten, for years, maybe 35 years, the first and arguably the best joke I ever made about Trump. I'll correct that here. Not only are the British Conservatives on track for a historic loss in the July 4 election but two candidates, a party official, and a security guard have been caught allegedly wagering on which day their prime minister would select for Election Day! And the rare two-wins-in-a-row for Puck media guy Dylan Byers, carrying still more management water as he turns gutsy Washington Post reporting on the paper's ongoing management scandal into “a plan to dig for unflattering information.” C-Block (27:20) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: How did I forget to tell you this one through the first 500 episodes of this podcast? How could I have missed the 24th anniversary last week? I'll just mention the principals: my mother, me, a former New York Yankees infielder named Chuck Knoblauch - and Babe Ruth. .  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A shouting match broke out today between attorneys during pre-trial proceedings in the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case. The disagreement was over a long-disputed 2022 meeting between a prosecutor and an attorney for former President Trump's personal aide Walt Nauta. Plus, Judge Aileen Cannon seemed skeptical of arguments to dismiss charges against Trump and his co-defendants. But, she has yet to rule on the motions she considered on Wednesday. Former Trump White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci and former U.S. District Court Judge Shira Scheindlin talk to Anderson about the case. Also, in a 360° exclusive, CNN's Elizabeth Wagmeister talks to a woman who alleges Harvey Weinstein assaulted her nearly a decade ago. The woman also says she was the target of a "catch-and-kill" effort by the National Enquirer, similar to what's been described in the former president's hush money trial.  Learn more about your ad choices. A recent legal revelation has led former President Donald Trump to question the integrity of the Biden administration's Justice Department, suggesting that strong measures be taken against special counsel Jack Smith. A highly controversial admission in a court filing has set this chain of events in motion. It revolves around a case concerning classified documents linked to President Trump, and it was revealed to U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, who is adjudicating the matter. The core issue lies in the fact that the evidence in the classified document case is no longer in the same condition, according to prosecutors. They had to concede that the evidence is not in its 'original, intact' state. This unexpected turn of events raised Trump's ire, leading him to demand that special counsel Smith be held accountable. Smith's office was left with no choice but to confess that this startling revelation was a clear contradiction of what they had initially communicated to the court. Previously, it had been stated that the only modifications to the content were the removal of specific classified documents and the inclusion of substitutes to these documents, stirring a whirl of controversy. These details surfaced during a legal filing in response to Walt Nauta's plea for additional time to process the clutter of seized documents. The court filing contained meticulous information, including which records were placed in which storage units and the particular order of these documents. This detailed filing, however, revealed an unsettling inconsistency.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Trump Calls for Arrest Against 'Deranged' Jack Smith After Tampering with Case

An explosive revelation in a recent court filing has spurred calls from former President Donald Trump for Joe Biden's Justice Department to take legal action against special counsel Jack Smith. The controversial admission pertains to a mishandling of 'evidence' in a high-stakes case revolving around classified documents. Smith's team informed U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon that certain evidence wasn't maintained in its original state, a revelation that rocked Trump camp and raised eyebrows across the nation. In a shocking turn of events, Smith's office concurred that this assertion contradicts what they had initially reported to the court. Initially, they had painted a different picture, stating that the changes made to the evidence predominantly included the extraction of specific classified materials and subsequent insertion of stand-in materials. The unexpected admission of inconsistency from Smith's office has spiked national interest and has driven a surge of support for Trump, thanks to this politically charged narrative. The court filing in question pertained to the plea of defendant Walt Nauta who sought additional time to internalise the seized documents in a case focused on classified documents. It apparently pointed out the specific location of different documents within various boxes and also detailed the correct order of the documents in each box. All this has been brought to light by Smith's filing which has unwittingly stoked the fire of this political drama. A significant discrepancy unearthed by Smith's disclosure is the mismatch in the current arrangement of the boxes to the previous scans obtained, an inconsistency that legal mavens consider problematic. This revelation adds to the mounting pile of concerns for the prosecution, potentially complicating an already politically fraught case.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

SERIES 2 EPISODE 162: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Stochastic threat number one million. Trump returns to his propaganda channel to insist that his thugs should be, quoting his online post, “allowed to protest at the front steps of Courthouses, all over the country” rather than be “rudely and systematically shut down and ushered off to far away ‘holding areas' essentially denying them their constitutional rights.” He tells them “Rally behind MAGA. Save our country. The only thing you have to fear is fear itself.” When THAT stochastic call to lay siege to federal buildings didn't work (why does that sound SO familiar?) Trump tried what he thinks is smooth and subtle. “The Palestinian Protests at Columbia University have closed the college down. But the area surrounding the Courthouse in Downtown Manhattan, is closed up like a drum, with New York City's Finest (Police) all over the place. Why not send some to Columbia… Republicans want the right to protest in front of the courthouse like everyone else.” Again. Seems oddly familiar. Reduce law enforcement around an area Trump wants to see sacked by gangs and militias and morons ready to spring him or hang a Vice President or, who knows, kill a judge. He forgot to note “will be wild.” Justice Juan Merchan  There is little for Justice Juan Merchan to DO about this latest threat other than to encourage the city and the state of New York to have tanks ready because frankly if Trump terrorist gangs again rise up against the government as he had them do on January 6th the only way the point is going to be made clear is if it ends with the New York Department of Sanitation having to clean them up with brooms and hoses and garbage trucks. But with Trump following yesterday's half-day in court ending with more violations of the gag order, Merchan can at least regain control of this mess by - if not jailing Trump at today's gag order hearing - at least saying: if you do it again I will revoke your jail and send you to Rikers Island. We have to grasp this nettle eventually, let's do it now. In the long term, the ACTUAL Trump Legal headline may have come not from New York but Florida where witness exhibits in the Trump Espionage case reveal that the feds have a small coterie of witnesses close to Trump including an unidentified Person 16, clearly a senior Trump aide but not in the innermost circle, who revealed nothing less than the fact that Trump's “people” told his valet and co-defendant Walt Nauta not to worry about the stolen documents case, that it's not going anywhere, yet even if he were to, say, get charged with lying to the FBI, Trump will pardon him after he regains power. B-Block (26:33) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: The man Nate Silver once thought was a top-five candidate to be the next Democratic presidential nominee, Eric Adams, is down to 16% support for re-election as mayor of New York. Kevin McCarthy is surprised to learn his claim Hillary Clinton never conceded is a lie. And ESPN's policy - no, you can't be a sportscaster on one station and an advocate for a presidential candidate on another - was right. I know: I helped to author it because the day when you (or I) could is long gone. So why is today's ESPN letting Stephen A. Smith do it? Why is he campaigning for Trump on Fox News? ESPN must silence him - or fire him. C-Block (37:32) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: So I once had an agent named Art Kaminsky who at the same time he was negotiating to extend my deal at KCBS in Los Angeles was also sending his other clients in for the job. And he ordered his partner Lou Oppenheim to NOT tell me as he literally walked out of the meeting at which KCBS told him whether or not I was staying. This all ends with them serving me with papers hours before my first SportsCenter, 32 years ago this month!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The previous office holder of the U.S. Presidency, Donald Trump, was seen in a federal courthouse in Florida last Thursday, making his presence felt alongside his legal counsel. They have taken on a mission to bring to an end the ongoing litigation regarding classified documents. At the forefront of this courtroom battle for Trump's lawyers is a bid to convince U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon to dismiss the lawsuits in her Fort Pierce courtroom, the basis of their argument hinges on the nebulous application of the Espionage Act and the Presidential Records Act invoked by special counsel Jack Smith. Meanwhile, the prosecution team from the federal government counters this effort robustly. They insist in a legal document that the ex-president's assertions are fundamentally flawed as they originate from three erroneous assumptions. These errors, as per the prosecution, mirror Trump's belief that his status as a former president exempts him from laws and the concept of accountability, principles which typically apply to all other citizens. Present in the courtroom along with Trump are co-defendants Walt Nauta, working as an aide for him and Carlos De Oliveira, who oversees the property management of Mar-a-Lago. This hearing takes place in the wake of an election interference case against Trump and his co-defendants, where there were some counts dismissed by Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee of Fulton County, Ga. Despite these dismissals, the past president still grapples with 10 pending charges.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
