Unlike Stanley Tucci in THE TERMINAL we have open arms to our guests, and in particular returning guest JASON MICHAEL of ATLANTIC SCREEN CONNECTION (and the upcoming TRILOGY TALK) to talk about a Steven Spielberg film that everyone hates. No, no READY PLAYER ONE (although that should provide a hashtag for this episode's social media promotion @grandgesturepod) but the 2004 Tom Hanks starring romcom. Jason dismisses Catherine Zeta-Jones from this screen romance and focuses on Tucci and Hanks bantering back and forth as the latter takes up residence in the former's airport as a man with no country but who makes friends easily. On this episode our hosts Jason of ATLANTIC SCREEN CONNECTION and Jairo of THE TRUE BROMANCE FILM PODCAST talk about their hopes, dreams, fears, and axieties for the latest chapter in the STAR WARS saga: THE LAST JEDI. But what they don't talk about are any of the early reviews that have come out about this film. The subject for this episode is Critic Proof Cinema, which ranges from fan favorites such as HARRY POTTER to film snob untouchables like PAUL THOMAS ANDERSON. How do we approach movies that we have already developed such an affinity for? We decide to do a meet cute, break up, and grand gesture the Tom Cruise way, which involves a plane crash, a car chase, and a motorcycle in a race with the bulls, along with copious amounts of drugs and guns in the 2010 film KNIGHT AND DAY. And yet it still remains adorable. To keep it that way, your lovable scamp of a host Mike recruits fellow Cruise enthusiast, Jason Michael of Atlantic Screen Connection, to "debate" the ethics of this romcom with his curmudgeon coastal elite of a co-host Dave. Of course if that's not strong enough, we have the charm of Cameron Diaz to forgive Mr. Cruise for all of his spycraft sins and perhaps our selection of this film for our podcast.Facebook/Instagram/Twitter: @grandgesturepodHosts: Dave @pccasestudy Mike @warmachinehorseEmail us your favorite romantic grand gestures in film at grandgesturepod@gmail.com

For episode 300 we did not select that particular Zack Snyder "classic" but we do have a number of guests doing their best readings from that film. Dwight of The Broken Brain, Dave of Pop Culture Case Study, Jairo of The True Bromance Film Podcast, Jason of Atlantic Screen Connection, Kevin of Cinema Geeks, Daniel of Get Reel Movies, and Jess & Non of Joy Sandwich are all here to blot out the podcast sun as we debate Our Future Identity as seen in new release THE CIRCLE. This disappointment leads us to look back at alternate futures in Terry Gilliam's BRAZIL and Richard Linklater's A SCANNER DARKLY. All of this and a debate on the future of cinema, Netflix, Marvel, podcasting, and the very nature of good and evil as seen in our hosts Chris and Mike. A breezy podcast listen all around. Thanks supporting any of the first 300 episodes, we promise at least two more. On this episode we browse the Tall, Dark and Assassin section of the cinema to celebrate Keanu Reeves as our favorite dog owner in JOHN WICK: CHAPTER TWO. This sequel to one of the great surprises of 2014 has us looking at the differences in style between films on assassins. The critically loved 2015 film THE ASSASSIN puts little action on display but stunning imagery, whereas the 1995 movie ASSASSINS has little in the way of surprises (the great Julianne Moore paying her dues with this material being one of them) but contains characters who are driven insane by inaction. Thankfully guest Jason Michael of The Film Faculty and Atlantic Screen Connection is here to talk us off the assassins ledge and help us decide on a new #1.
