The Phoenician Scheme is a 2025 espionage black comedy film produced, written and directed by Wes Anderson from a story he conceived with Roman Coppola. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Benicio del Toro, Mia Threapleton, Michael Cera, Riz Ahmed, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Mathieu Amalric, Richard Ayoade, Jeffrey Wright, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rupert Friend, Hope Davis, F. Murray Abraham, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Willem Dafoe, and Bill Murray. An international co-production between the United States and Germany, it was produced by Anderson's company American Empirical Pictures and Steven Rales's company Indian Paintbrush.Anderson talked about the film in June 2023 while promoting Asteroid City; he said it had already been written before the 2023 WGA strike began. That September, he revealed that del Toro and Cera were planned to join the cast, and he hoped to begin filming soon after the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike ended. The rest of the cast signed on between January and June 2024. Filming took place at Babelsberg Studio in Germany, between March and June 2024, with cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel. Frequent Anderson collaborator Alexandre Desplat returned to compose the score. The Phoenician Scheme had its world premiere in the main competition of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on May 18, 2025,[3] and was released theatrically in the United States by Focus Features on May 30, with a release date of June 29, 2025 set for Germany by Universal Pictures. The film received generally positive reviews.

Mit dabei sind: Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Willem Dafoe, Michael Cera, Riz Ahmed, Bryan Cranston, Benedict Cumberbatch, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jeffrey Wright, Bill Murray, F. Hello everyone and welcome back to another review here on MOVIE Morning. Wes Anderson's latest film - The Phoenician Scheme - hit UK cinemas this past weekend and will have a slow international rollout over the next month or so. I am a bit of a Wes Anderson noob. I watched Fantastic Mr. Fox obsessively when I was younger and have seen The Grand Budapest Hotel but other than that, I don't have an exact recollection of whether I've seen any of his other movies. Because of the early release here, I thought I'd give The Phoenician Scheme a shot, especially because Anderson has such a passionate following and the plot description seemed interesting to me. Is it worth seeing at the cinema? Find out in this review! The Phoenician Scheem:Directed by: Wes AndersonStory by: Wes Anderson & Roman CoppolaScreenplay by: Wes AndersonProduced by: Wes Anderson, Jeremy Dawson, John Peet, Steven RalesExecutive Producers: Roman Coppola, Henning MolfenterOriginal music by: Alexandre DesplatDirector of Photography: Bruno DelbonnelEdited by: Barney PillingCasting by: Douglas AibelProduction Design by: Adam StockhausenCostume Design by: Milena CanoneroCast: Benicio del Toro, Mia Threapleton, Michael Cera, Riz Ahmed, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Mathieu Amalric, Richard Ayoade, Jeffrey Wright, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rupert Friend, Hope Davis, Bill Murray, Willem DafoeSynopsis: The story of a family and a family business.

On this episode of Paid in Puke, we analyze Susanna Fogel's 2023 thriller, Cat Person based on the 2017 short by Kristen Roupenian, and adapted for the screen by Michelle Ashford, who was the showrunner for Masters of Sex, but most importantly, wrote the teleplay to the abortion episode of 21 Jump Street. The film stars Emilia Jones, Geraldine Viswanathan, Hope Davis, Isabella Rossellini, and Nicholas Braun. We all had very different feelings about this film, both from our initial watch together in the theater, and after our analytical watches for the pod. Journey with us as we discuss how heavy-handed a metaphor we can tolerate; why Fogel might have tried a bit too hard to cater to a male audience, at the film's expense; the surprisingly problematic element of the source material; and how Nicholas Braun perfected towing the line between awkward and creepy.  Plus: Did Harrison Ford ruin a generation of men?

We're still here once more! How dumb are we? We're locked in hot & heavy with Luke schooling Steve from the onset over Derrick Coleman's jersey number. How about that? Govier lives in Canada now & has been watching Luke play softball from across the Detroit River. Luke shares some new comedy with us from some guy named Dan Cummins. Luke saw Hope Davis at a bar once in NYC. Leigh Ann pops in to say hello to everybody! Govier loves to laugh at the whiskey laugh & then the gratuitous cursing from the guy who robs the party store in Robocop. It's so funny! Luke loves boomer TV & has wistful nostalgia for the Murder She Wrote & Columbo days. Then Cancer Boy from Kids In The Hall's Brain Candy shows up. Govier found himself in the crosshairs of someone's rage on the day of the Trump shooting. Never forget that Richard Simmons died that day too. The Joker premise of it's all part of the plan from The Dark Knight remains true today. Govier wanted to share his experience chatting with his co-worker about the Democratic National Convention & how the goal posts for meaningful change can be vastly different for each person depending on several factors. Luke & Govier don't seem to understand each other, which happens on this show. Can you listen to or watch shows where they review a movie in-depth even though you haven't seen it? We're teeing up next week's big return of the MCU with Deadpool & Wolverine by looking back at the first collaboration between director Shawn Levy and the Huge Jacked Man, a futuristic underdog sports movie about robot boxing. Yes it's 2011's Real Steel, starring Hugh Jackman, Dakota Goyo, Evangeline Lilly, Anthony Mackie, Hope Davis, James Rebhorn and returning ADHD-DVD favourite Kevin Durand. While it's often described as Robot Rocky, it hues much closer to a Robot Over The Top. Based on a short story by Richard Matheson that was adapted into The Twilight Zone episode "Steel", produced by Spielberg and Zemeckis, and backed by a winning cast, all the ingredients are here to make a smart and affecting family-friendly action movie, but like its sadsack loser protagonist, it just can't put it together. Plus Justin's got theatrical field reports on Longlegs and A Quiet Place: Day One. If you'd like to watch Real Steel before listening to the show, it is currently streaming in Canada on Netflix at the time of publication. Other works discussed on this episode include The Last Voyage of the Demeter, 13 Hours, The X-Files, Gladiator II, Anyone But You, Ticket To Paradise, The Mask, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, I Love You, Man, Succession, Speed Racer, Chappie, Australia, Les Miserables, Prisoners, The Last of Us, The Mandalorian, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, LOST, WALL-E, Transformers, The Simpsons, and Battleship. We'll be back next week to welcome Twister into the podcast canon, and we'll be joined by Significant Other of the program Ashley Olson to discuss a film that is very near and dear to both her and Hayley's hearts. And of course you know we'll be talking Twisters as well, so come on back for what is sure to be a whirlwind episode you don't wanna miss. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

Mark Pellington's pioneering influence on music videos as a modality to convey emotion, story and feeling will never be forgotten. From Leonard Cohen to Linkin Park, Michael Jackson to Public Enemy, Foo Fighters and Alice in Chains to Chelsea Wolfe and Bruce Springsteen, MP had penultimate foresight in constructing some of the most memorable portraits of love, war, loss, spirit and activism. His feature films each brought a tenet to the medium of storytelling. From 1997's Going All The Way (Ben Affleck, Jeremy Davies, Rachel Weisz, Rose McGowan), to the Grand Prix/Saturn Award-nominated Arlington Road (Jeff Bridges, Tim Robbins, Joan Cusack, Hope Davis); to The Mothman Prophecies, an intriguing parapsychological adaptive tale starring Richard Gere and Laura Linney; the dramedy, Henry Poole is Here; a story of friendship and loyalty in I Melt With You (Jeremy Piven, Thomas Jane, Christian McKay, Robe Lowe); the subtle poetry of grief, The Last Word; Nostalgia, with Catherine Keener and Jon Hamm headlining an ensemble cast; and the dance-expanse, The Severing, in 2022. His latest book, The Visualist, is an essential memoir surveying 40 years of shape-shifting filmmaking experiences. Asteroid City is Wes Anderson's 11th feature film. It's written and directed by Anderson from a story by Anderson and Roman Coppola. It's a comedy-drama, sort of sci-fi thing with a play-within-a-TV-show-within-a-movie structure. The ensemble cast is predictably ridiculous and includes the likes of Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, and Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, and Hope Davis. There are more. I didn't even mention Willem Dafoe or Steve Carell or Margot Robbie. Or others. And: The OceanGate Titan disaster isn't the sort of thing The Nose usually covers. And what we see is really this forced deportation. I think they called it repatriation. It was taking not only people who were born in Mexico and came across the border and settled, but people who were born in the United States and, even if they didn't speak a word of Spanish, they sent them away because it was someone to blame. It was 'taking away jobs.' So that alone is an uphill battle. And then when you add the complication of being queer in this time, and that there are laws against it that you have to make sure every step you take is so calculated and so careful that you don't slip up. It's all based on fear and threat and what happens if something you've established all of a sudden, a woman can come in and do it.When we look at the current political climate, and we look at the way they're trying to erase history, to whitewash history, I think is such a dangerous precedent because we can only learn from our past. We can learn from our mistakes. We can learn from what happened. If we don't tell the truth, where does that leave us? If we can cherry-pick what's important to know and not know, and by an elite view, well, how different are those elite views from the elite view of a hundred years ago? We have to learn from our past. It's the only way to have a future. “I call it the percolating trauma inside him, and I think that it's a combination of things with Matthew Rhys who plays Perry Mason. Again, it's holding onto this trauma that happened a dozen years ago in the war, that this is not something that he has really dealt with. And I think that you can't take that lightly. It doesn't go away with time. It doesn't heal. It's still inside you, and it's still informing who you are. And I think that was important in coming into season two because here is a man who's now thrust into this whole other battle. He's now an attorney. And how does he put lives in his hands? So he is gone through this in season one, and now we're coming into season two knowing that he's haunted by the fact that he thought he saved somebody. He put Emily Dodson's life in his hands only to have her commit suicide. So now he's wrestling deeply with the flaws in himself and his character that these soldiers put their lives in his hands in the war.Emily Dodson put her life in his hands in the trial. And now he's going to take on these two boys who could swing on a noose. Does he want that? Does he have enough inside him? And that's why we play with the imposter syndrome because he doesn't know if this is who he really is. And does he still have that fight inside him?And so I think that's the sort of push-pull I think that you're alluding to inside and that he's trying to hold it in and trying to hold it all together. And we do see those moments when he can't hold it back. When he punches the guy in the face in episode four when he steals the horse. These are things that he needs to release that valve because it's so much he's trying to hold onto to get to the result that he wants to win the fight because he hasn't fully won a fight yet. And that's hard.”Michael Begler is showrunner, writer, and executive producer of Perry Mason, which debuted as HBO's most-watched series in nearly two years upon its premiere in June 2020. There are certain things that they instilled in me from a young age that I carry with me as a writer and as a grown man. I think a sense of humility, a sense of patience, and a sense of humor are so important. I think that looking at everyone and having the patience to listen to who they are and what their circumstances are and then not take yourself too seriously. That you have to give yourself a chance to breathe and all that sort of helped inform the person that I feel I am today.”www.imdb.com/title/tt2077823www.instagram.com/perrymasonhbowww.imdb.com/name/nm0066764www.creativeprocess.infowww.oneplanetpodcast.orgIG www.instagram.com/creativeprocesspodcast
