The approval of Ethereum spot ETFs sent shockwaves through the industry as policymakers pivoted abruptly from threatening to veto FIT21 bill, to a pro-crypto discourse. One could say their hand was forced by the imminent US elections, but Ethereum is now officially classified as a commodity, nonetheless. As the regulatory hurdle seems, for the time being, surpassed, one should not forget the values promoted by the crypto movement from the get-go: decentralisation and permissionlessness. However, everyday users tend to overlook these aspects in favour of a more streamlined user experience. As technology evolves and scaling solutions mature, better UI & UX represent crucial goals in the race for end user adoption.Topics covered in this episode:Crypto regulations: FIT21 & Tornado Cash trialEthereum spot ETFIs Ethereum a commodity or a security?Scaling solutions & end user adoptionThe importance of decentralisationHow Web3 lowers barriers of (permissionless) competitionRegulatory and legal hurdlesEducating ‘normies' & UXTechnology: depoliticising moneyBerlin blockchain week & Dappcon 2024 wrap-upEpisode links:Austin Griffith on TwitterMona El Isa on TwitterPeter Van Valkenburgh on TwitterSponsors:Gnosis: Gnosis builds decentralized infrastructure for the Ethereum ecosystem, since 2015. This is a conversation with Austin Griffith about his continued journey as a builder/educator, and learnings from onboarding thousands of developers onto Ethereum.Austin is a friend and someone I've had the good fortune of working with extensively in our shared time at the Ethereum foundation. In this conversation, we take a tour through the different projects he's worked on over the last two years — starting with ETH.build (the graphical interface for working with smart contracts), moving to scaffold-eth (his development starter kit that has really taken off and been used by thousands of developers), and then moving onto the BUIDL GUIDL and the Moonshot Collective (DAO-like collections of developers who work on prototyping interesting new ideas). We also go down a few fun tangents around Loot, the Doge NFT, DAO tooling, and we get to hear a walkthrough of Austin's curriculum for bringing a new developer into the space.I consider Austin to be a gem of the ecosystem, and feel lucky that we have him here. I hope you enjoy the conversation.Check out our website for other episodes: intothebytecode.xyzSubscribe to our newsletter for updates: bytecode.substack.comTwitter: twitter.com/sinahab

Ethereum is arguably the most powerful, innovative, and necessary source of technology in the world right now. The leading decentralized, blockchain-based software platform in the world is home to the most revolutionary and popular tech projects in the crypto industry. Basically, if you work for anyone in crypto... your work is more than likely going to be based on Ethereum. The problem is, as popular and revolutionary as Ethereum has been, there has still been some scalability issues. That's where ETH 2.0 comes in. The new version of Ethereum is supposed to fix all the scalability and speed issues the 1st version of Ethereum presents. This is supposed to come with a transition from the Proof of Work consensus verification model to the Proof of Stake consensus verification model. One of the most brilliant people I have interviewed, Austin Griffith, joined me this week to talk about the leading blockchain software's development and possibilities of the future. Austin Griffith is a builder on Ethereum, who has created a plethora of decentralized apps that help people learn how to develop and code on Ethereum. Austin is also a major player in all things Ethereum, and that includes NFTs. Ethereum is Austin's passion and you can tell by the way he talks about it throughout the interview. I love you all beautiful people. My first ever NFT went live on Opensea last night as well. It is the first ever podcasting NFT in human history, representing episode #24 of The Talk2Much Podcast. Peth talks to the GOAT Ethereum developer, tool builder, and one of the first quadratic freelancers through Gitcoin CLR grants - Austin Griffith. No matter what perspective you take, Austin has a wealth of experience to share on the Ethereum ecosystem and how to effectively onboard new developers into the space. There are certainly holes in the space that need to be filled, and people willing to experiment and build are helping to fill them. Main Topics: Onboarding Developers to Web3 ScaffoldETH and ETH.BUILD for prototyping xDAI for fun and… profit? Austin builds tools ScaffoldETH & ETH.BUILD to empower the builders and help them get to rapidly prototyping ideas. He also spends a lot of onboarding Web2 developers to Web3 through 1on1 sessions where he gives them contextual understanding of developing in Web3 and tries to get them going - what a great man that Austin guy, isn't he? On getting ideas for new and experimental projects he says: “Sometimes it’s just something that’s fun, sometimes it’s like, what can be the most high leverage, a lot of times, it’s like setting up some kind of combo move.” “I feel that a lot of the inspiration and the stuff that I go after, is just like either those missing holes that we were talking about, or just like: that would be cool, that would be fun to build, let’s do this for the lolz!” Curious about the possibilities and friction points on the xDAI chain? Austin talks about some of the recent developments on xdai, the risks of frontrunning with sidechains and why bridges between chains help to secure content, and why Metamask isn’t supporting xDAI by default. Ultimately we need lots of options in a decentralized ecosystem - but we also need composability. Take it from Austin - there are many opportunities to build cool stuff and have a big impact on the ecosystem, and many of the tools he builds will help you get there. If you're a Web2 developer looking to get into Web3; don't hesitate from contacting us or reaching out to Austin Griffith himself.
