The age-old cliche about tech workers is that you can spot an extrovert because they stare at your shoes instead of their own. So, there was some hemming and hawing, and "aw, shucks" was muttered around the studio more than a few times, but we managed to get some of our Moser colleagues to talk to us about some projects or other cool things they've done in their careers or personal lives. We're happy to share these stories with you and happier still that collecting them helped us get to know some of our fellow Moserites even better.Enjoy! And if you'd like to learn more about St. Baldricks, or to make a donation to help them find a cure for childhood cancers, here's the link:https://www.stbaldricks.org/

Local business owner Riki Leona Irie joins me for a conversation about her thriving business, her childhood, and her philosophies about how to enjoy life. This is my first time meeting Riki and we hit it off right away. We connected on our love of animals, childhood weight problems, and our favorite podcasts, speakers, and spiritualists. We talked about the ways that we can find the nuggets of happiness in life and the pitfalls that can block you from joy. We covered some stuff about faith, belief, the Law of Attraction, and God. We get to hear about Riki's childhood in Hawaii and Missouri, her decision to strike out on her own, and the obstacles that ended up leading to her success. She even tells the story of how/why she chose to keep a shaved head for over a year and what she learned from it. We laughed a lot. Riki speaks with humor and she tells her story with bravery and integrity. She knows what she believes and she owns the choices she makes. She is a cool chick and after this podcast you will feel like she is a longtime friend. I hope you enjoy this episode! When Ginger Hahn, the founder of Ginger Elizabeth Chocolates' daughter was only 6 days old she had an intestinal bypass. According to Ginger, "It was the worst 2 weeks of my life in that hospital. Walking to the cafeteria every day I would walk past the oncology pediatrics wing at Sutter Sacramento. I was grateful to not be on that wing with my baby but so many kids were. I want to do this to give back to those kids who give so much hope and inspiration to others while fighting this terrible disease."-So Ginger is shaving her head with St. Baldrick's to raise money and help conquer kids' cancers and she needs your help! Every 2 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer worldwide, and 1 in 5 of those in the U.S. will not survive. Ginger said that she refuses to accept this reality, so she's decided to fundraise for lifesaving research to find cures and better treatments for kids. You can help Ginger by donating on her behalf to St. Baldricks here https://www.stbaldricks.org/donate/participant/1058309/2020?amount=50&donation_type=donate_once-In this episode, Ginger talks about balancing a growing business in her 20’s with the demands of motherhood, and her battles with severe postpartum depression, and, at times, crippling anxiety. But Ginger never gave up and found herself needing to open up to others, and learn how to be vulnerable, and seek help, something that didn’t come naturally to a driven, entrepreneur. Jaidyn started singing at a very early age. At two years old, her grandmother donated over 14 inches of hair to St. Baldricks. Once she was finished, Jaidyn grabbed her grandmother's face and sang, "You Are So Beautiful." Being so young, Jaidyn sang a slightly different version of the Joe Cockers hit song that she learned from the movie "The Little Rascals." Nonetheless, she sang every word from her heart and continues to do so. Jaidyn was raised in church and was asking to do music early on. Between the age of nine and ten, she was leading the music for VBS and singing at various locations. When Jaidyn turned 12, she began playing her mother's guitar and within the following year the Cowboy Church youth leader gave Jaidyn her very first guitar on her 13th birthday. In September of 2017, she was invited to play at numerous places which include Mid-South Southern Gospel Convention in Malden, MO. And in 2018, Jaidyn began full-time ministry which involved her traveling across the country. Being apart of the Country Gospel Music Association, Jaidyn participated in the Pigeon Forge Eastern Tennessee division and was blessed with the Acapella Artist of the Year, Teenage Artist of the Year, and Singing Interpreter of the Year. Jaidyn has also been an active member of the Fine Arts program and has qualified for nationals five years running for various vocal categories. Casie (pronounced KC) Shimanski and I met a couple of years at an event in Florida and have stayed in touch online since. We've crossed paths in Florida many times missing each other by a few hours here and there or realizing after, "Hey, you were there?" In December last year we actually came face to face at Social Fresh that was held at Full Sail University. Casie is part of the Cisco Systems family working with the team dedicated to telling Cisco’s employees story through social media, specifically, Instagram, Twitter and . Casie comes from a family of police and has first responder blood also having ties to the fire department as well. Like anyone with that kind of bloodline, you know giving and caring are two traits that come naturally to her. Her Dad was with the Port Authority PD for NY/NJ for 21 years. He worked the '93 WTC Bombing & lost many friends in 9/11 as well. He has been a "founding" member of Team Live Out Loud (dedicated to Casie’s sister, Kellie's Memory). He’s gone bald for St. Baldricks’s many times and this year will be an extra special year as Casie is going bald for St. Baldrick’s as well…. And this is a great story. Casie is getting married on March 22, 2018 and just two days later she is shaving her head for St. Baldrick’s! Now that’s commitment to a cause and you’ll understand that more when you listen to Casie tell the story how here involvement on a personal level came to be. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation doesn't just look to help any cancer...it is targeting child cancer. Kids that get cancer aren't contracting lifestyle cancer...they are just getting a raw deal on life and could use research dollars and money to help fund treatments specific to their unique needs. Every day 43 children will be diagnosed with cancer and 1 in 5 will not win the battle. Please consider donating to Casie. This episode we sit and talk with Kellan and Elizabeth Tilton. Elizabeth is Kellan’s mom. Kellan began fighting cancer the day he was born. Kellan was diagnosed with stage 3 neuroblastoma with secondary paralysis on the evening of his birth. Although he’s now cancer-free, cancer left Kellan paralyzed from the waist down. Defying the odds from his first breath, Kellan constantly turns his “can’ts” into “cans.” Kellan was picked out of 18,000 pediatric cancer patients as the 2018 Ambassador for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. St. Baldrick’s Foundation is the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants. Kellan is a young, determined athlete. He goes to the mountains to work on perfecting his skiing and is also really into climbing. He is currently scaling 40-foot indoor climbing walls, he’s looking to go even higher! Elizabeth Tilton, Kellan’s mother, brings us the perspective of a parent and caregiver. Not only is she Kellan’s mom but she is also advocating, with Kellan, for funding and awareness for cancer in general, pediatric cancer, and survivorship. Elizabeth is involved in numerous communities focused on providing support and insight to caregivers, family members, and patients. Elizabeth shares with us how she navigated the difficulties she’s encountered as mom and caregiver of a child with cancer and now mobility issues. Matty Gregg has done 45 Tough Mudder events, including five times at World's Toughest Mudder. In addition to the WTM community, Matty is a member of the St. Baldrick's community. That was part of a fundraiser Matty worked with that raised over $125,000.00 for St. Baldricks. Matty talks about that on today's episode. Matty also talks about his first WTM in 2012, the obstacle he hates the most (It's Leap of Faith) and nutrition strategies for the new 8-hour Toughest Mudder races.
