Dave Wallace's music is rooted in the songs of the 60's when entertainers like Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, and the golden age of radio and records changed his life -- from one of conflict and abuse to a person that wears a guitar on his shoulder and finds a prayer in his heart.“I could never have survived, moved on or overcome much of the past,” he said of memories of his parent's split-up, moves across country and the checkered times he describes as dark. “Without music or my faith, I wouldn't be here, or be the musician I've become.” “My first original song was based on the lyrics of ‘Pray' Christian music that I began to work through on a nylon-string guitar,” said Wallace, “So I would say that a lot of my music came from painful situations, the times we loved country music and knew it was time to get down on our knees and pray.”Over the years, he ‘moved on' to the famous refrains of Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings. His aspiration was to sing in church and to connect his audience with a higher power. “When I sing I don't sound exactly like any one vocalist, but I use my own style, rhythm and tone.” In 2010, he decided to settle in St. George with his wife, Kay. “Over the years I've think I've gone from a ‘so-so guitar player' to being a more authentic entertainer,” said Wallace of change. “My one-time lead guitar player, Jeff Eastwood told me to get rid of the music stand and find the discipline and heart of a professional.”He has good memories of the first time he jumped onto a stage in Las Vegas, and in 2007, his role as worship leader for the Centerville Baptist Church.“To me, it's important not to put on a facade, but to reach out to the audience and to say as a Christian… Yes, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.”In fact, music is the ‘go to' that Dave has always followed. “I think the devil tried to take it all away from me,” he said of lost years and dark times. “But I got it back -- a stability, an opportunity to play, to entertain and I'm so grateful for that life.”

Hosts Paul Gibbs and Nate Miller talk with Luke Wareham and Rachel Mason in this episode. Luke and Rachel are worship leaders and songwriters based in the South West of the UK. They have a passion for writing songs that lead people into the presence of God, and help people fix their eyes on Jesus and experience afresh the healing power of the Holy Spirit. Their prayer is that their songs will bring hope to a broken world, speaking prophetically the truth of Jesus into everyday life situations’.On the 10th January Luke and Rachel released their debut single ‘Whisper’. Luke says they wrote Whisper whilst reflecting on 1 Kings. He says that he believes that ‘even when the enemy seems loud in our lives, even when we are filled with panic and doubt, a whisper from God changes everything. Our true freedom comes from Jesus breaking through into our lives and his perfect plan for us worked out on the cross. God revealed himself in a whisper to Elijah because he was so close and he whispers in our life situations because he is so close and never leaves us. He is already working it out'. The song made it to number 11 in the UK Christian Music Charts. Luke and Rachel released their first 5 track EP 'Whisper’ in March 2020. Luke says that when writing the EP, he reflected on a quote by John Ortberg which says ‘I need to worship because without it I lose the sense of wonder and gratitude and plod through life with blinkers on’. His hope is that the songs help people in everyday life to worship Jesus. In this current challenging climate, the world needs this kind of hope! Marq Andrew Speck, of the band Sweet Crystal, joins host Paul Gibbs in this episode, Marq and the band are located near Detroit, Michigan, and Marq talks with Paul about the band's music, how they got started, and some of the challenges faced over the more than 45 years the band has been together. The interview also features 2 of the band's songs. From their website:Using your talent to enrich the lives of others is of the highest purpose. Often, discovering your purpose comes from unexpected events. Like many young friends, Marq Andrew Speck, Steve Wieser and Bill Blatter formed a rock band with the intent of living the rock star life. However, after some life altering events, the band changed the course of their mission. Instead of allowing the rock music scene to define their career path, they looked within themselves and defined who they wanted to be. Their choice was to serve a greater importance by using their talent to make a moral and positive impact on society. Today, the award winning popular Christian Rock band, Sweet Crystal, has a simple mission of, “Reaching The World, One Song At A Time”™.Unlike most bands who have a lifecycle of about three to five years, these three high school buddies have been playing together for over 45 years. With the addition of their newest member, Martin Kuchar, they have “remained together in pursuit of a message.” In the forefront of Christian Rock bands, Sweet Crystal, leads the path of positive change by using their inspiring rock shows to generate and give back too many great causes. Their good has not gone unnoticed; the band has earned numerous awards and recognition including twenty Detroit Music Awards under their belt, and are nominated for six more again this year! Jaidyn started singing at a very early age. At two years old, her grandmother donated over 14 inches of hair to St. Baldricks. Once she was finished, Jaidyn grabbed her grandmother's face and sang, "You Are So Beautiful." Being so young, Jaidyn sang a slightly different version of the Joe Cockers hit song that she learned from the movie "The Little Rascals." Nonetheless, she sang every word from her heart and continues to do so. Jaidyn was raised in church and was asking to do music early on. Between the age of nine and ten, she was leading the music for VBS and singing at various locations. When Jaidyn turned 12, she began playing her mother's guitar and within the following year the Cowboy Church youth leader gave Jaidyn her very first guitar on her 13th birthday. In September of 2017, she was invited to play at numerous places which include Mid-South Southern Gospel Convention in Malden, MO. And in 2018, Jaidyn began full-time ministry which involved her traveling across the country. Being apart of the Country Gospel Music Association, Jaidyn participated in the Pigeon Forge Eastern Tennessee division and was blessed with the Acapella Artist of the Year, Teenage Artist of the Year, and Singing Interpreter of the Year. Jaidyn has also been an active member of the Fine Arts program and has qualified for nationals five years running for various vocal categories. In this episode, host Paul Gibbs talks with Brian Mace, singer, songwriter, and radio host from Eldon, MO. The first thing you will discover about Brian is his great love for God. Everywhere he goes people are aware of Brian’s deep abiding love for the Master and that lends itself to their love for him as well. When you get to hear and see Brian performing live, you will see it for yourself. It comes out with each note, with each phrase, with each look. God has done a remarkable work in Brian’s life. As the story goes, Brian answered the call to ministry after many years of ‘running’ from God’s call on his life. Too many times we see that exact scenario played out when it comes to serving the Master on “His terms” and not our own. We like to do things ‘our way’ and Brian was no exception. However, as time went by, the story became more and more a focus on and about Jesus and less about Brian, the man, as it should be. Not too long ago, Brian began to fulfill a lifelong dream of owning and operating an online radio station featuring Gospel Music by all the best Gospel and Christian artists. The beginning was held up several times by unavoidable complications but Brian stood strong and worked his way through the maze of details and drudgery it takes to set everything up. From the very first live broadcast, Brian knew his decision to start Gospel Hour Radio was right on. People began to notice the difference right away. This wasn’t just another online radio station. This was a place for people to come that wanted quality, Christian music and information that really ministers to the soul and helps build the kingdom for Jesus in the process. Brian’s story covers decades of learning and experience, encompassed in trial and error that serves to mold character and resolve. The doors opened for Brian as soon as he submitted to the Lord and began looking to Jesus for answers instead of self. His strong family ties helped a great deal as Brian looked to his earthly father for guidance and insight. Brian’s mother, Peggy has been a stalwart support through the good and bad times, lending her great intuition and knowing personality to the ever evolving, growing ministry God is building step by step, stone by stone.Links:https://www.bmaceministries.faithwww.NoteSpireMusic.comwww.NoteSpireRadio.com

Show host Paul Gibbs talks with Christian Singer/songwriter Ricky D. Broniste about his life, music, and ministry, and shares several of Ricky's songs on the podcast. From Ricky's Bio:It took a bout of envy to get me from only knowing an E chord on the guitar to actually playing rhythm guitar in a band. A life lesson caused me to discover guitar was a chick magnet. This began a four year stint with Rock and Heavy Metal Rock bands (1969-1972). Numerous house parties, school dances, outdoor concerts and biker gang gatherings. The final biker gathering, though well performed, ended badly. Traumatic enough for me to leave secular bands and begin writing songs for God. The bikers had adopted the band and considered us property. Yeah, they threatened my life but, I quoted my dad's favorite phrase "guitarists like me are a dime a dozen"; easily replaced. I don't think that saved my life. God changed their hearts from killing me or beating me severely. God's grace spared me, so He could fulfill His plan for my lifeSongwriting for me began with a high school Creative Writing class I took during the Fall semester of 1969. By late 1976, I had written 36 love songs about girls once adored by me. All of them were demoed but, later rewritten to contain Christian lyrics instead. As time went by, guitar playing became many instances of Christian worship leading within church groups, street witnessing and home fellowship gatherings. Musician's Fellowships led to three Christian band formations and memorable moments. Time well spent. In and out of those bands, I wrote additional songs. Twenty-one of my thirty-three songs became the copyrighted compilation titled "The California Years". After remarriage in 2003, Crystal and I then moved back to our birth state of Missouri in early 2005. By August of that year, I began recording one by one the songs from The California Years. Attending Missouri churches, I once again was worship leading again with only a couple of street witnessing events. Working full-time left very little time for the studio but, God helped me do many things spontaneously; without hours of rehearsal. The internet became my mission field in early 2013, with my music/artist/band page getting started on Facebook. The Christian songs waited until the blues renditions had tested the waters before, fully using Facebook as an outreach. On September 2nd 2015; those blues tunes got onto Christian Internet radio and "Psalm 148" & "No Respect of Persons" got airplay, later that month.Links:On FB: https://www.facebook.com/Ricky-D-Broniste-535655679793991www.notespireradio.comwww.notespiremusic.comwww.paulgibbsmusic.com

From Eden, North Carolina, Doug Corum grew up listening to the classic sounds of the 70’s, especially the soulful sounds of Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. Doug first took the stage standing on the coffee table in his parents’ living room at three years old, crooning Bob Seger songs like a pro. His mother used to sing as she rocked Doug to sleep as a baby. He learned to play the ukulele at the age of seven and his fascination with music continued to grow. His relationship with Jesus Christ is what he credits his strength to today, and he is so excited to share it as he ministers wherever the Lord leads him to go. Doug and his wife have two beautiful daughters who are an answer to prayer and a blessing from God through adoption. Their journey as a family is a testimony in and of itself. John 3:16 is the verse that Doug carries closest to his heart today, because his mission isn’t just to entertain. Doug has responded to God’s calling by stepping onto the battlefield, dedicating his life to sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. His debut album, “Jesus is with Me” was recorded in 2017 with the collaborative resources of Big Feat Productions in Shelby, NC and Crossroads Studio in Arden, NC. The album’s first single, “The Winds of this World” is included on the latest Crossroads compilation CD. Keep in touch with Doug on Facebook to find out where he will be ministering through song, and be sure to sign up for. his mailing list to receive ministry updates. www.dougcorummusic.com
A troubadour, a poet with a guitar, a stage banter-conversationalist - all terms that describe Matt Wheeler's music & performance style well. Matt’s songwriting paints pictures with words, often drawing inspiration from classic works of literature or simply spinning new original stories in song. Lyrics & dynamics play a key role, as each song really means something, and each one is delivered with an honesty that is compelling. When playing solo, Matt draws audiences in with engaging stories and interaction, while shining the spotlight on the lyrical strength of his songs. When joined by his band Vintage Heart, the poignant lyrics meet expressive strings and driving percussion to make orchestral folk songs that rewards repeated listens. The result is a pleasing sound that recalls wordsmiths like Denison Witmer, Iron & Wine, and James Taylor.Visit his website: http://www.mattwheeleronline.com/

“Broken, My Thorn, My Rose” Dawn Gwin appeared on the Artist Insight recently and talked with host Paul Gibbs about her music and ministry, with special attention on this book. She kept seeing a need that wasn’t being met in person after person with a “broken” life. She knew of so many who have been through, or, who are in the midst of great trial. Through much prayer for the broken lives all around us, The Lord Jesus compelled Dawn to reach out to these shattered lives; but she knew she couldn’t do it on her own. When she sought The Lord for what He wanted for those whose lives are shattered in many pieces, that’s when He put the title, “Broken ~ My Thorn, My Rose” in her spirit to write. Dawn thought the book was going to consist of a few poems and devotions; but as she continued to seek The Lord, little by little He began to show her this would be a compilation of true stories/testimonies from several people whom GOD brought from darkness to light; from aloneness to companionship; from life without purpose, to living life with meaning and purpose in the center of GOD’s plan. When you read the stories that have come through from all over the world (Uganda, Australia, Kenya, Ghana, England, Republic of Congo, China, Indonesia; along with several all over the United States), and from all walks of life, you will see it truly is “A Small World After All.” You will see that trouble troubles us all, not only one culture and race, but all; not just in your own country, your own city, your own neighborhood, your own home, but in all. Then you will find, all around the world, a great big loving GOD, the Creator of all things is deeply and passionately in love with us all and wants to go with us through each situation we face – anywhere and anytime!
