Being President is not like riding a bicycle.   What in the world are they thinking putting this prez on a bike when he can't even walk up the stairs to an airplane?  Let's hope Biden's Bike Fall is only a metaphor for the White House and not the country as a whole.    An unpermitted event on Juneteenth turns deadly in DC, this is a terrible tragedy.    Ryan Landreth of www.royalsreview.com wrote a scathing game recap after the Royals lost to the A's on Fathers Day 4-0.  I'll share a couple bits of it that I think you'll like.    Emporia native and NASCAR on Fox analyst Clint Bowyer hit a woman and killed her with his car on June 5 at the Lake of the Ozarks.  He was not impaired and it appears the woman on the road was.  We've got the latest details.     And I wrote about Clay Travis getting kicked out of a little league game for F bombing the ump in this week's edition of the Patron Post.  I'll share a couple paragraphs with you as emails are pouring in on this topic.

Filled with bugs, sign-up errors, now a waiting list, too. Ohhhh a waiting list for super selective TRUTH SOCIAL. So selective and ELITE lol. Being President is a bigger platform than an error message spewing social media app — in a now crowded world of second tier social networks, no less. Trump squandered his opportunity while he had it, and there are better outlier social media platforms than Truth Social, period. Trump is a dud, this new platform seems like a weak middle of the road dud, and I wonder how long any content questioning Trump's SEVEN confirmed flights on Epstein's private jet would remain up on Truth Social…

Every hero STARTS as a CHILD, and every Child can CHOOSE to become a Hero... Just like THIS one!You probably already know that Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth President of the United States. Being President was a hard job, but Abe Lincoln had always worked very hard. When he was still very small, Abe HELPED his father chop trees to build a log cabin for their family to live in. And going to school wasn't easy either. Abe and his sister had to walk two whole miles to school and another two miles back. Abraham loved books more than anything. He looked for every chance to read. They say when he went out to plow a field, he would take a book along with him, and at the end of each row, he would stop and read a little while the horse rested! With so much work to do during the day, though, Abe usually only had time to read at night. And since it was a long time before electric lights were even invented, he read by the glow of the coals left in their fireplace. Often he would read late into the night. And it really paid off, too, because of all the wonderful things he learned from books! One of his favorite books was about George Washington, our very first president. I wonder if young Abe ever though he might someday grow up to President, too? Well, he not only became the President, he became a HERO! That's what I know about the beginning of This Hero, and I know that YOU Can Be a Hero TOO!Dear Parents, After years of development, trial, and revision, we are so excited to now share with you the most effective version yet of our Proactive Bully Prevention Program that has proven to "change the culture" at hundreds of campuses across America in profound ways. Research has shown the TCN Method™ to be the single most effective school based Violence and Bully Prevention Intervention of its entire genre. We have hundreds of testimonials from educators describing the results they have gotten, and you can view many of these at http://www.thecharacternetwork.org/Testimonials (www.TheCharacterNetwork.org/Testimonials) This program, The Beginning of a Famous Hero™ is used in conjunction with a companion program called Bully Alert!™ in schools played over the intercom during morning announcements twice or more each school week, and backed up by a common culture which reinforces the principles taught, at every turn, and incorporates the phrases of the academic language during any teachable moment. These two sets of stories work together to convey a common academic language which says, “A bully is a person who hurts others on purpose (even if it's just hurting their feelings) but a HERO is a person who HELPS others. So CHOOSE to be a HERO by HELPING instead of a bully by hurting.” They also promote the concept of POSITIVE PERSONAL VISION, helping each student to realistically visualize his or her own "Future Self," and in doing so help relate consequences of actions and attitudes today (good or bad) to that future self. It is the spaced repetition of these principles that... Support this podcast

Its President's Day, and we hope you're enjoying a day off while we commence with Morning Bull on this wintery February Monday! We recapped our Valentine's Day weekends and what Rob did while home ALL alone! There was some chat surrounding ice rinks and how-to's regarding the outdoor playground; Jack Osbourne, celebrity son of Ozzy Osbourne joined us and of course we celebrated President's Day with a trivia game courtesy of Rob! Robs Did You Know took place, as did the TrendZone featuring some great sound from around the world! Jack Osbourne is the son of Ozzy Osbourne. He built his initial fame on the reality show about his family 'The Osbournes' and now has ventured off as an adult into the reality and discovery world on Discovery Plus! He talked with us about his experiences in Buffalo and his paranormal journeys as well as his new show 'Fright Club'! He mentioned Big Foot, ghosts and even a little bit about his dad and had some laughs with us! Ice rinks are popular around Buffalo, given the strong hockey heritage of the area, so we wanted to know if you've ever built your own, this year or in your lifetime, how hard it was and what it entails to keep it well maintained. Rob and Chris have them in their neighborhoods at several houses and they're very enguinuous. We took your texts and submissions! Being President's Day, we wanted to celebrate in our unusual and trivial way with a game researched and delivered by our own Rob Lederman. He asked the three others trivia questions about different presidents throughout history and gave them options to choose from; which was true and which wasnt. It was a lot of fun and you can and did play along very well! We chatted briefly about the Daytona 500 yesterday and its 6 hour rain delay and some of the fun news that came out of that.  Even though its the offseason, there was some interesting Bills-ish related news regarding the former Texans LB JJ Watt and his connections to Buffalo and the Bills. We discussed the potential of him signing here, how realistic it is and what impact it would have; and we even had a poll up on twitter to get your opinion as well.  ONLY AVAILABLE on the Morning Bull Podcast! Mastering Intensive Care
Episode 37: Michael O’Leary - Dealing with the frustrations of the changing ICU landscape (SG-ANZICS special episode)

Mastering Intensive Care

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 6, 2018 77:55

Our ICUs might be growing larger in size but there seem to be the same number of very sick patients to care for overall. All of which means we seem to be admitting a greater proportion of less unwell patients to our ICUs, especially in the larger tertiary ICUs. Given we also suffer from “bed block”, where there are no available beds in the hospital to transfer patients to, when they are no longer critically ill, our ICUs can become holding bays for effectively "ward-level" patients. This may be great for the patients but it means longer ward rounds, and a level of frustration for intensive care teams, who may feel like they are not making a significant enough difference for these less sick patients. When A/Prof Michael O’Leary started out in Intensive Care nearly 30 years ago, he remembers being enthusiastic and busy, performing many interventions on mostly sick patients. Having now moved across the world and gained a few decades of experience, he has a great perspective on some of the challenges our larger ICUs face. Michael is former President of the Australian & New Zealand Intensive Care Society and a Senior Specialist in Intensive Care in Sydney, working at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and St George Private Hospital. He is Clinical Associate Professor at Sydney Medical School, The University of Sydney, and Co-State Medical Director of the New South Wales Organ and Tissue Donation Service. Michael trained in anaesthesia in the United Kingdom and holds a Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA). His intensive care training commenced in the UK in Cambridge and continued in Sydney where he achieved Fellowship of the College of Intensive Care Medicine of Australia and New Zealand (FCICM). Michael was a Research Fellow at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, UK where he completed his MD degree with studies into the metabolic response to sepsis and use of glutamine and growth hormone in the amelioration of catabolism. In recent years his main interests have been in end-of-life care and organ donation in the ICU. This episode was conducted in May 2018 as a live interview in front of a conference audience at the 5th SG-ANZICS Asia Pacific Intensive Care Forum. Thanks to that meeting's Organising Committee, representing Singapore’s Society of Intensive Care Medicine (SICM), Singapore, and the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society (ANZICS), I was invited to conduct several such live interviews for this podcast. Many thanks to Tan Hon Liang and David Ku for this opportunity. Apart from his observations about the growth and change in Intensive Care over the last few decades, Michael and I talked about: How the SG-ANZICS meeting came to be His career history Being a part-time intensivist Playing the role of Co-State Medical Director of an organ donation service The characteristics of good intensivists Being President of ANZICS and the importance of being involved with professional societies Some perspectives on good communication and clinical care. The Mastering Intensive Care podcast is aimed to inspire and empower intensive care clinicians to bring their best selves to the intensive care unit through conversations with thought-provoking guests. I genuinely believe we can help each other to improve, as both professionals and as people, so as to give the absolute best possible care to our patients. One of 30A's pioneering entrepreneurs, Lisa Burwell is a very busy woman. Being President and Founder of The Idea Boutique (www.TheIdeaBoutique.com) -- a full-service marketing agency in Grayton Beach -- would be more than enough to keep most people occupied. But Lisa's also the publisher of numerous magazines, including VIE (www.viemagazine.com), which can be found on shelves all along the Gulf coast as well as in airports and bookstores throughout the United States. And if that wasn't enough, she's now gone international, launching her newest publication -- Connemara Life (www.connemaralife.ie) -- in Ireland. Learn how failure has driven this creative professional to find success by following her heart.
