AJ is the youngest of three children. The eldest, Gary was born in Belarus and about three years old when the family emigrated to the United States.Tamara didn't have your typical childhood. She was born in the former Soviet Union. During turbulent times, when Tamara was a young girl, she lost many family members, including her mother at the age of five. Though very young when her mom died, she can recall many vivid memories of her and refers to her mom as a "ray of sunshine." It's this positivity that AJ loves and appreciates and hopes to raise his three children in that same kind of environment with similar philosophies.It's a tough transition, coming to the US, barely speaking english, looking for work and having a family. Sacha, AJ's dad worked non-stop, so Tamara could stay home and be with the children. She eventually worked part-time in the family business in New Jersey, "The Wine Library, which is one of the most highly regarded wine and gourmet foodAj confesses, " the worst thing I could do is disappoint my mom and dad." Both parents expected a lot from their kids academically though Gary the eldest struggled, Liz their sister did well, but AJ says "it came naturally to me. If I listened in class and did my homework, I got good grades."In hearing AJ share stories of his mom and dad, he so appreciates how they worked to shield him from a lot of their childhood trauma and sadness. Toyota has done an about face on their initial decision to skip the big game and is now set to make a big splash at Super Bowl LVIII with a national TV advertisement and engaging experiential activities, the company views its decision to participate in the Super Bowl as a perfect opportunity for a high-impact creative execution as the timing coincides with the launch of the 2024 Toyota TacomaBMW, Volkswagen, and Kia are already building hype around their big game contentAmazon is shaking up the streaming world by introducing ads to Prime Video, a move expected to add over $5B to its existing $38 billion ads business. Starting today, Prime Video viewers will encounter instream ads placing Amazon in direct competition with traditional linear-TV giants and streaming services.Amazon is leveraging its massive amount of consumer data as 70% of American households have an account, making it a highly attractive platform for advertisers targeting the fragmented streaming audience.Despite some pushback, Amazon's proposed ad rates are competitive with streaming rivals, positioning it strongly in the market, targeting $30-35 CPMJon Morgenstern, the executive vice president and head of investment at the ad holding company VaynerX, said he'd like to see the cost come down to the high teens, but added if the business results can be tracked back, it doesn't matter what the cost is. If you've spent more than two minutes somewhere on social media, you have probably come across Gary Vaynerchuk. For years I have wondered, is this just a character? Or is there a real Gary Vaynerchuk somewhere behind “GaryVee,” the social media entrepreneur and internet brand? Gary got his start working at his family's liquor store, which he turned into an online wine shop. That's where he started in social media, hosting a long-running YouTube show called “Wine Library TV.” He parlayed that into the gigantic GaryVee brand, which at its core, is about entrepreneurship. Gary co-founded the restaurant reservation platform Resy, which he sold to American Express in 2019, and Empathy Wines which he sold in 2020. The Vaynerchuk empire remains vast, and it's structured in complicated ways. There's holding company VaynerX, which contains the ad agency VaynerMedia. There's another company called Gallery Media which owns lifestyle websites. Gary even co-founded a sports agency – VaynerSports, with pro athletes like the NFL's Kirk Cousins and Sauce Gardner on the roster, MLB shortstop Bo Bichette, and a variety of combat athletes. On top of all that, there's a serious upheaval going on in digital media. The era of the social web is coming to a major moment of change, with new platforms like TikTok in the mix and old standbys like Twitter and Reddit going through complicated and controversial resets. New platforms bring new personalities and influencers, who are native to those platforms and maybe better at capturing the audience there. It's one thing when you're the first GaryVee. But staying GaryVee, in a time of change, and pitching brands and companies that his approach to social media will stay relevant, is an ongoing challenge. We got to chat with Gary at his Hudson Yards office in Manhattan and I will tell you, he did not hold back with his answers.
