-(00:39) Alphabet will pay President Donald Trump $22 million as part of a settlement in a class action lawsuit brought against the company over the suspension of various YouTube accounts following the January 6 riot at the US capitol. -(02:34) In a development that should surprise no one, OpenAI is preparing to release a standalone social app powered by its upcoming Sora 2 video model, Wired reports. The app reportedly "closely resembles" TikTok, with a vertical video feed and swipe-to-scroll navigation. The catch? It will only feature AI-generated content. -(04:46) Researchers have discovered major security flaws with Tile tracking tags, according to a report by Wired. These flaws could allow both the company itself and tech-savvy stalkers to track a user's location. The security issue could also let a malicious actor falsely frame a Tile owner for stalking, as the flaw can make it appear as if a particular tag is constantly in the vicinity of somebody else's tag. Thrive By Design: Business, Marketing and Lifestyle Strategies for YOUR Jewelry Brand to Flourish and Thrive

Threads is all the buzz lately! 100 million new users join in just the first week, which is crazy!   You have to ask yourself (because who really needs yet another social media platform):   Is it worth your time?  Is it just another time suck?  How can you leverage it for your business?    The jury is still out, but for now, I'd say give it a try and just have fun experimenting.    Will Threads replace Twitter?    Or will it go the way of Clubhouse? Remember during the pandemic lockdown, when Clubhouse was everyone's favorite shiny new toy? We were all isolated and stuck at home, so what else was there to do? But nowadays, is anyone even still using it? Not me.   I'm still experimenting and playing around with Threads to decide for myself how it might fit into an overall marketing strategy. What I've sensed so far is that it's not political or journalistic (like Twitter). It's actually more like the early days of Facebook when you'd post a random status.    Why Join Threads Now?   If you're thinking about joining the Threads app and want to grow a big following, it's best to jump on now before it gets overcrowded. I've been posting on both of my accounts daily (tracymatthewsny and flourish_thrive), just one or two things here and there, trying to get a feel for the app and how I might leverage it going forward.   Listen to Episode 419 and decide for yourself!   For now, the jury is still out as to whether Threads is a game-changer when it comes to promoting your jewelry business and connecting with your audience.    Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy this lighthearted episode and then just experiment, play and have fun!   Are you enjoying the podcast? Threads by META: The Text-Based Social App Taking the Internet by Storm The social media landscape is ever-evolving, with new apps constantly vying for users' attention. In the midst of this dynamic environment, Threads, the text-based app by META and powered by Instagram, has made a stunning entrance. Within just five days of its launch on June 6, 2023 (June 5 in the Americas), Threads amassed a staggering 100 million signups. This meteoric rise has left even the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, in awe, who described the achievement as "insane" and hard to comprehend. In stark contrast, its rival Twitter has experienced a decline in user retention, pointing to the captivating appeal of Threads. I. The Rise of Threads: A Paradigm Shift in Social Media Threads has captured the imagination of users worldwide, catapulting its popularity to unprecedented heights. Its success can be attributed to a combination of factors, including the speed at which it garnered 100 million signups, its unique concept, and its integration with Instagram. The speed at which Threads achieved 100 million signups in just five days is nothing short of remarkable. Even Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, expressed his disbelief and excitement. The swift rise of Threads highlights the power of curiosity, hype, and effective marketing in the digital age. II. Analyzing User Loyalty: Threads vs. Twitter Examining the contrasting user loyalty rates of Threads and Twitter offers valuable insights into the changing dynamics of social media. While Twitter has experienced a decline in user retention, Threads has managed to maintain a steady level of loyalty. The decline in Twitter's user retention is evident from the statistics, particularly among Android users. The percentage of new users who continue to regularly use the app after 30 days has dropped from 19% in May 2022 to 16% in May 2023. This decline raises questions about the factors contributing to this trend, such as increased competition, changes in user behavior, or evolving user preferences. III. Unraveling the Success Secrets of Threads Threads' phenomenal success can be attributed to a combination of strategic targeting, simplicity, and effective integration with Instagram. To achieve such rapid growth, Threads effectively targeted the right audience. By identifying the user segment most receptive to text-based communication and intimate connections, Threads managed to capture the attention and loyalty of millions of users. Understanding the preferences and needs of the target audience allowed Threads to tailor its features and marketing strategies accordingly, resonating with users on a deeper level. Another key element of Threads' success is its integration with Instagram. By leveraging Instagram's established ecosystem, Threads enhances its functionality and offers a seamless experience for users. The integration allows users to effortlessly transition between the two apps, benefiting from the familiarity of Instagram's features while enjoying the unique appeal of Threads' text-based interactions. Threads' rapid ascent in the social media landscape showcases the ever-changing nature of user preferences. Its text-based approach, seamless integration with Instagram, and emphasis on authentic connections have struck a chord with millions of users worldwide. While Twitter's user retention wanes, Threads has managed to captivate users and hold their loyalty steadfastly. As the social media landscape continues to evolve, Threads by META has firmly established itself as a prominent player in the industry. ** Thank you for joining me on The Contrast Project Lounge Podcast. When Donald Trump announced he was creating a social media app to disrupt big-tech, Rob had mixed feelings but he believed that many companies and the centralisation of media did and still does need to be disrupted. Listen in to this episode to hear why he had these thoughts and how the app is doing now. KEY TAKEAWAYS The app has been branded a failure because there is a waiting list of over a million and it doesn't even work on android, among various other issues. De-platforming and cancel culture is rife across social media and this is why Rob believes we need to see the de-centralisation of social media. If we continue to allow social media to have this much power over free-speech then we are giving them too much control, over more than just what people post on Facebook, but the political landscape as well.
