Today on Salt Lake Dirt I welcome author Ben Tanzer. His novel The Missing will be released on March 21 on 7.13 Books. With a narrative that alternates between the perspectives of both husband and wife, The Missing offers a raw and intimate look at the complexities of love, loss, and the enduring bonds that tie us together. Tune in as Ben shares the inspiration behind his characters, the challenges of writing dual narratives, and the poignant moments that bridge the gap between fiction and reality. --- Book Synopsis: "Gabriel and Hannah's daughter Christa is missing. Has she run away with her older boyfriend or has something worse happened to her? As Gabriel and Hannah wait for the police to find her, they're forced to confront the fissures in their marriage and who they've become as parents and individuals. With Gabriel's alcoholism and womanizing always lurking and Hannah's guilt over possibly pushing her daughter away taking a toll on her mental health, they must decide if they can be better people for each other...whether Christa comes home or not. From the Emmy-award-winning author of Upstate and Orphans, The Missing is a deeply psychological portrait of a marriage that is both full of pathos and frighteningly real." --- Episode Links: TanzerBen.com IG: @tanzerben --- PURCHASE The Missing from these Independent Bookstores: Exile in Bookville (Chicago) The Book Cellar (Chicago) Volumes Book Cafe (Chicago)

This week Larry and Christian sit down to cull three remarkable stories all about Adult Sports Leagues (softball featured prominently!) from Mr. Grant Olsen, Sam Berman, and Ben Tanzer. Among SO many other things we talk about the lingering triumph of stealing bases and missing signs, batting 1.000 and coaches who suck. We explicate getting beaned in the face (twice!) by very hard, very fast-moving spheres. And...we spin a tale of showing up to the softball diamond super-duper high and ready to play the best game of your life. Relive the glory days with the boys, and enjoy these well-spun yarns! Look, let’s face it: Communication is hard. And it’s not made any easier by the fact that digital platforms give us a pretty good GD excuse to say things to people without having to actually talk to them. But it’s important to know how to communicate well, because poor communication is the root of fights, and of poor work evaluations, which is a VERY grown-up thing to be worried about. This week, author and teacher Ben Tanzer joins the Smiths and helps them crack the code on how to communicate like a serious person.
