Cortney Herron is a contemporary figurative painter, whose work is characterized by bold yet calming color palettes that bring a sense of tranquility and peace to the viewer. Her use of organic forms and shapes creates a sense of connectedness we as a people have to the natural world. Born and raised in sunny Los Angeles, California, Cortney developed a deep appreciation for nature from a young age. She spent much of her childhood exploring the outdoors and observing the subtle nuances of the environment around her, learning about the beauty and importance of staying present in the moment. This connection and deep appreciation for nature would later become a driving force behind her artistic vision. She also believes that color has the power to evoke emotions and create a sense of atmosphere, and she carefully creates her palette to convey a particular mood or feeling. Her paintings are often suffused with warm, earthy tones that create a sense of harmony and tranquility. One of Cortney's favorite subjects is the human form, which she portrays in a way that emphasizes the unique moments in time where we can be lost in a daydream or deep in thought. Mimicking the rawness and authenticity of life at any given moment, her work is honest yet playful - where perspective and proportion have no rules and you're simply able to see even the tiniest glimpse of your innermost self within the piece. So her work emulates a sense of authenticity and connectedness to not only the world around us, but our internal selves. As a full-time artist, primarily working in the acrylic, oil, and digital mediums, Cortney also lends her creativity to various brands through special collaborations, commissions, and partnerships, including Bombay Sapphire, Dagne Dover, Society6, and Refinery29. She has also been featured on podcasts and numerous publications including The Argonaut and VoyageLA. https://cortneyherron.com/ --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/creative-habits/message

Movement at the Still Point, An Ode to Dance In this episode of “Dance Talk” ® with Joanne Carey, join host Joanne Carey as she chats with Special Guest: Mark Mann, renowned Celebrity Photographer, who found himself, like all of us, silent and without a space to create during the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown. For an artist, not being able to create is lonely, for a dancer, not being able to move, is a daily death. Enter sister-in-law, Loni Landon, choreographer, dancer & movement director living in NYC who suggested to Mark to take some photographs of her community who were hurting as well. Together with Loni, Jacob Levy (Mark's producer) along with a host of other yes's, and over 140 dancers, a collaboration was born that transcends any photographic lens. . Lauren, aka “Lo” Harris, began her career in journalism. Early on, she was crushing whatever came her way and quickly became “too good.” Supervisors would suggest she slow down while she saw men around her moving up. Feeling like she was suffering from the “pet to threat” syndrome that many Black women experience, she felt stifled by the ceiling above her and decided that she had reached the limit of people-pleasing and trying to prove herself. As someone who had studied art in high school and loved art as a personal passion, Lo decided to explore her creativity. It wasn't until 2020 that her work became more than just a hobby. After creating her personal illustration, Justice, reacting to COVID, the election, George Floyd, and the ongoing cause for BLM, the partnership inquiries started coming in. Suddenly, Lo was an in-demand artist. For someone who had never considered starting her own company, she faced the reality that one was beginning around her. Today, Lo is an NYC-based artist, educator, and children's book illustrator, who uses bright colors, strong figures, and relational compositions to create celebratory work that promotes visions of a better world. The important themes incorporated into Lo's work deal with social justice, female empowerment, and mental wellness. With an impressive client list including Amazon, Old Navy, Hulu, Warby Parker, Bombay Sapphire, and the United Nations, Lo Harris will inspire you to find a way to use your voice. She's even been on The Ellen Show. As someone who sincerely wants to abolish gatekeeping, Lo dedicates time to educating other artists on the business. She has created her business with intention, clarifying her own brand pillars and vision for a Lo Harris Universe, which will evolve into a future lifestyle brand. In this episode, Lo takes us along her journey from the days when she had to fake it til she made it to today and how she structures her business and time. She shares why she is building a team around her instead of waiting to be chosen by an agency and why she's not waiting for brands to call her. This episode will leave you motivated and inspired!

Born and raised in Boston, MA of Greek immigrant parents, and an alumna of Boston Latin School, and Boston College, Effie Panagopoulos is the first Greek woman in history to found a liquor brand. With a BA in French/Romance Languages, Effie had lofty aspirations of being a UN ambassador, and much to the chagrin of her traditional Greek mother, ended up in the spirits business. She has over 15 years experience marketing and selling spirits brands in the US from street to executive level, for some of the most well-known brands. (Chambord, Bacardi, Grey Goose, Bombay Sapphire, Metaxa, Disaronno). She finally became an “ambassador” when courted by Remy Cointreau to be the first (and only to date) National Brand Ambassador for iconic global Greek spirit brand, METAXA. It was this role that brought her back to Greece and re-ignited her love affair with the motherland. Her “eureka moment” was in 2008, at infamous Mykonos beach bar Nammos, coincidentally written about in VOGUE.com where she decided SHE would be the one to bring this product to the US, and has not only created Greece's first luxury spirit brand, but has eyes set on being the “new” on having a bottle of KLEOS on every bar. To seek Aristotelean balance and personify her Spartan roots, she is a fitness enthusiast, certified personal trainer, former spinning instructor, and natural bodybuilder. She can be found deadlifting cases of KLEOS in the summertime, doing bicep curls with bottles of KLEOS, on the Greek islands, while writing bits for her next stand up comedy routine in between sets. She is passionate about mentoring the next generation of female entrepreneurs and supporting women's charitable organizations.Follow Effie Panagopoulos on social media @greekspiritmuse

As the latest custodian for the brand, Brock has spent the last four years leading a team of 16 distillers at the brand's Laverstoke Mill Distillery but maintaining the core expression, while adding in innovation, isn't always easy. We talked to Brock about creativity, agility, and adding a little personality to an established brand.

After the restaurant's opening Nicolas' cocktails began garnering attention. In the Chicago Tribune the “Something & Tonic” was given special mention in veteran food writer Phil Vettel's favorable two star review of the restaurant where he writes:"Kokonas offers a tidy list of five or six cocktails, of which the most interesting is the Something and Tonic, which changes week to week. I don't know if Kokonas can sustain this for a year, but I've managed to have three versions of this drink, and so far, so good."Moving on from The Heritage, Nick recently spent two years running a beverage program in Charleston, SC at the Southern food icon The Grocery.
